[Music] hey it's evo yahya from vr division if you're here to learn about ue5 and lighting and architecture then we'll come back today we will take a rate raised ue4 project make it a ue5 project and realize that project with lumen we will learn some console commands and learn some various tips and tricks that i believe you will find valuable i highly recommend following me along so you can practice your lighting you will find the link to the project in the description if you're someone creative who have a skill to improve or a new skill to learn then i get you that's where today's sponsor comes in skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of inspiring classes for creative and curious people like you and me they cover topics like interior design illustration photography lighting freelancing video and more i always ask myself a question what skill can i learn to help me grow and i search for that skill on skillshare and thus bring us to a class i'm taking right now on directing and filmmaking with julian clapper directing 101 making a five shot film where julian teaches us on writing our scenes pre-production planning it's a must-watch for anyone who is working or want to work in film and storytelling skillshare is cultured specifically for learning meaning that there are no ads no distractions every class comes with a class project and is just designed for you to learn the first 1000 of my subscribers to click the link in the description will get free trial of skillshare for one month so you can let your creativity begin with that said let's get started what i want you to do is go to learn tab then find the archways interior project i want you to download this and convert it to android engine 5. once you create that project just go to open it go to the project here and then right click click switch unreal engine version and open it with unreal engine 5. get some popcorn and let's get started all right we'll come back finally what we need to do now is to fix the lighting in the scene and increase our frame rate so the first thing is let's click on tilde so we can enter a console command r dot ray tracing all right and instead of typing great racing all of it you can just click the down arrow on your keyboard and it will type race racing for you let's click another dot and then type wait for it force always racing effects we can click on the down arrow again to select this so when you have so many options you can just select the option you want now it's set to one so we need to set it to zero all right boom what i'm going to do next is to select all the rectangular lights in my scene i will just turn them off so instead of selecting them one by one by holding ctrl like this if you have so many lights in your scene or the same type of actors in your project you can right click on any of these actors then go to select then the fourth option here this is context sensitive so it will change based on what type of actor you selected and the shortcut for it is ctrl shift a so usually i press on an actor and then press ctrl shift a on my keyboard and it will select all of them so i'm gonna set these guys to zero i'm gonna select this point light and just in case if there are any other point lights in my project i'm gonna press ctrl shift a if there is any more it would select all of them for now there is none one set it to zero all right the directional light as well i want to check if lumen is enabled let's go to settings let's go to project settings and let's type here global illumination and dynamic global illumination method now it's set to none so when we switch from none to lumen we will get a message saying hey lumen reflections are designed to work with lumen global illumination and have been automatically enabled thank you unreal engine the next message it says hey in order for lumen to work mesh distance fields needs to be enabled and i also enabled it for you automatically however you need to restart the engine so the engine can start generating mesh distance fields so here we are again so let's delete the process volume and wow this is so nice this seem to be immersive and i think they are yes i will just double click the curtain material and i will go here to where we have a massive color and click on alt then left click to disconnect this i'm gonna also click on default led and change it to cloth all right and now just click on save okay now our materials look way much better the curtain so that's nice these also are emissive so here we have intensity thankfully and we can choose zero all right wow so let's choose one this is actually very smart having like this type of material as blind so if you set it like five i guess it's like this subtle effect where we have this fakey air so that's so cool why do we still have lights is the scene baked oh oh did you see that so it was this late let's go away actually you can stay and now let's click on window i got you right so let's click on window environment light mixer so let's create skylight and let's create a sun and let's create a sky atmosphere and the beauty of this panel you can access the setting of your sky atmosphere the skylight and the directional light wherever it is from here the only thing you need to know about creating your direction light from here is that we need to find it and just enable it and disable it okay one easy way to do this if you just type here light the word outliner is going to show you all types of lights in your project okay so here's our directional light and if you just click here and then click again we will get our atmosphere and now this is what's beautiful about this if we press ctrl alt and move the mouse left and right or up and down it's beautiful i would love to have more sunlight in my lumen apartment please so i'm gonna select all these guys and the reason i did not press ctrl shift a is because i don't want to select all my static meshes if you don't want to select all of these every single time you just want to press ctrl g so they are grouped so now i if i select any one of them it will select all of them and just move them down okay good stuff oh what is this get out of here i like simple stuff real time capture this option is not here is it that's interesting okay good to know so here now in our apartment when we press ctrl l and move the sun i think it's enabled but there is a bug showing us that this is not enabled so if you press this something happened here okay just to double check make sure real time capture is enabled okay and set your uh skylight to movable as well otherwise it won't work because if it's not so i'm gonna do this and now i'm gonna press ctrl l uh you can see like there is some weird stuff so if you enable it everything will be gone by the way this makes it so easy to create day night cycles in android engine so let's bring the sun there we go oh that that's nice i'd like to cover the lower hemisphere so i'm gonna go to create visual effects and i will press on exponential height function it will fill this area for us and to also affect our lighting that's what's beautiful about human for the fire density i'm just going to set this to 0.002 i don't want it the density here like there is fog and there is fog fog sorry inside the room so let's set it to 0.002 and the shadows does not look great one of the only options we need to change when we switch is the shadow maps so if you go to rendering and then scroll down to shadows or if you just type shadow map here in the search so i'm going to type here shadow map you can select from shadow maps to virtual shadow maps and it's in beta now and it's also only in android engine 5 and you can see the shadows are so much better this is like before and this is how they are supposed to look we have nice lighting i love it it's so nice but let's say we want a different lighting scenario where we have a much brighter room what can we do here how can we make this brighter well if we select our directional light then we just increase the intensity because this is lumen it will just work it's brighter just like magic so if we set it like 250 becomes like that but now it's way too bright so let's tune this down to like i don't know 75 and we have the light here so i will select this guy and oh 0.6 that's nice let me quickly in this case show you how to set up a cinematic camera we can go to create cinematic cinematic camera reactor we will see it here and we will see the preview of that camera so if we click on f press g let's move it inside like so we call it like my lumen shot the money shot all right oh what is this what that's some true magic so i think let's make this as basic as possible all right i can see you all right let's do this let's select our camera and let's increase this to 50 then let's fix the focus so the way i'm moving by the way i'm just holding my right mouse button and slowly moving the mouse under focus settings let's expand this menu we can either set the distance manually here if we know how many centimeters or units our meshes are away from us or we can click on sample scene depth from scene on this eye dropper thingy and we can select where we want to focus so click here it's very close we can click on draw debug focus plane it will show us where the focus plane is and now we can click and drag slowly to change the focus where we want so in this case i think i'm gonna put the focus here beautiful just to check adjust it slightly yes i'd like to change the type of bloom we're getting so i'm gonna click on the post process volume and go here to bloom and maybe decrease this a little bit 0.05 lumen on its default settings is amazing this is also immersive isn't it or no i don't think this is emissive like these things can be solved so what happened i just click on this frame picture frame glass the static mesh we can go to the materials it has only one element so we double click this material instance and it opens here now opacity we make it 0.1 i'm sure whoever did put metallic hair they had the reasons but i'm gonna turn this off so i know what i get i don't like refraction especially in virtual reality it's so annoying i think it affected everything ah yes if you open the material again so they all looked so ugly we found the fakes boom boom boom easy let's close this and save if you like this tutorial if you found this useful hit that like button i will show you something so let's open google lumen unreal engine and let's also type documentation and let's select the virtual shadow maps virtual shadow maps there are some few console commands you can find here so let's change the light to get some shadows or actually let's bring it from the other side yeah that's a good example i wanted to look at the plant okay and if we go far it's like so bad now so we can change this in multiple ways the first way is the console command we copied earlier right there we go so if we just go here this console command that says r we always start with this shadow dot virtual dot resolution lod bias directional we need to copy this and go to unreal if we set this so here we go directional if you set this to a numbered like one two three we will get a worse resolution of our virtual shadow maps so if we get closer they will slightly keep getting better right i'm gonna type the console command again so it's r shadow virtual resolution lod bias directional because we have a directional length we are controlling currently the slide with this console command and if we set this to a high value with like uh minus one or minus two so let's let's go with zero first so you can see we have some improvements but here still like it's kind of still pixelated so that's zero i'm gonna type tell the again then press ctrl v to post the same console command -2 and as you can see it is really so way much better the lower the number is the higher resolution is the higher the number is the worse the the resolution of the shadow maps will be so it's inverse so minus one i hope you found this useful leave a like subscribe and thank you so much cheers
