PlayStation has released the brand new revised Playstation system not called a slim but also basically called a slim we'll talk about in a second uh these were kind of just released out of nowhere there was no pre-order process I didn't even see them on PlayStation's website until you could just straight up order and buy them to ship uh so I ran to the store this morning and got one so this is actually one of two different bundles that you can grab right now this one has Spider-Man 2 the other one has Modern Warfare 3 one thing that I find interesting about this before we get to opening it up is the fact that while yes there has been kind of a price increase for the models uh the slim line is 450 now inste 400 this one is still 500 at the moment it actually is kind of at a slight discount they are only available in these game bundles there's no system by itself option so you're getting a free game at the moment that's probably going to change eventually we'll probably see systems on their own and they'll still keep that price point but clearly this is kind of a way to help keep people interested in this one over maybe grabbing the original still especially if they're at a lower price point also real quick look at the Box this is a smaller box because the system itself is also a little bit smaller than the original one one uh one of my favorite things about this one is that we still got that 8K badge which someday might mean something doesn't yet by the way this is basically the start of PlayStation season there's a lot of Hardware coming up like the PlayStation portal we're getting a PlayStation pulse explore not long after that I'm picking all this stuff up and planning on covering it so if you don't want to miss out on that content make sure to subscribe and hit that Bell icon all right let's open this up okay we got the regular this is this is the usual for PlayStation you have the plain white box inside of the what do we got inside cables cables you all seen hdmis before you know what that looks like uh we got the controller a piece of packing material that fell off the front of the desk or was that actually something what was that just the stand the stand I almost lost the plastic stand this is so tiny I can't uh I've like held off watching other people unbox these cuz I really wanted to soak in this part of the experience myself as far as just setting it up in the sideways mode regular dual sents in the same traditional white color just get to it you know this is I it's been really infuriating seeing some of the conversation about this system because I've seen people talk about how it's not really that much smaller or wow this is a lot smaller and a lot of that has to do with what perspective you're looking at it because where it's smaller uh is very important this is honestly in my mind definitely smaller than the older one I'll put them side by side a little bit to illustrate what I'm talking about here but there we go so let's just take it in for a second uh obviously this is the dis model the system cuz we have the dis slot right here uh they taped it down so I can't take the covers off just yet uh ooh this is a detail I didn't notice before on the bottom side here you actually have an upraised PlayStation symbols from the buttons that's actually a really nice little detail I had not seen that before I don't know how much I'm going to like that as much well I guess it doesn't matter when it's on its side that's going to be at the bottom so you're not going to see it oh are these meant to be feet I guess those are actually meant to be the feet when it's sideways huh that's kind of smart actually I like that uh one of the other big differences between this and the current model it stands up fine by itself I already need to spend 30 bucks for a stand I'm still going to buy spend 30 bucks for a stand uh one of the things that is different about this aside from the segmented look is the fact that similar to the original PS4 we are doing that double duty of matte and gloss at the same time gloss on these top covers matte on the B bottom ones personally I'm a fan uh whenever it comes to the matte versus gloss discussion I've always preferred matte finishes but there is something about having the mix of the two especially when you're relying on a single colorway that I actually really like I think it just gives that little bit of contrast that to me looks more interesting now I am planning on doing a full setup with this guy trying it out for a while and give some more in-depth thoughts about how it runs but one thing I do want to dive into right away is just see about taking off the covers cuz I want to look at this disc expansion I don't know when it fell down but at some point Spider-Man 2 so I understand why like for Collector's Editions and stuff now it's digital only because they don't know if someone has a digital only system or physical system but I really wish that if I was buying a bundle with a dis based system they would just give me a dis based version of the game like I just I I get it it's simpler this way they just have the codes they put in all of them I under I 100% get it I I just wish that it wouldn't be this way am I about to read instructions for a console for the first time in like not as long as I'm going to joke ah okay so it's the front now like this I don't think that's necessary I don't know if that's the same for everything but oh that's actually a much that's a very simple feeling mechanism once you know where you need to pull from and apply pressure so there is our disc reader so here's our disc Greer and then because of the way they designed this model I should be able to just yep pull it right out uh now one thing weth noting I did not get a separate cover for this if I wanted to for some reason swap from a disc to digital design still got to rely on this cover at the moment down the line they are releasing cover bundles with different colors so I imagine if I wanted to for whatever weird reason I could buy the digital only version of those covers slap that on remove the disc if I wanted to change the look of this I'm a dinosaur sticking with physical so the disc reader is staying in as long as possible on this but I do like this modular approach to it I think this is actually a really neat idea versus having two permanently stuck versions of the system and I'm just so happy the discre integration is something like this where it actually does change just the main body of the system as opposed to being like this reader that just plugs into a USBC Port speaking of which actually that's another thing I want to check can you guys tell I didn't go into this unboxing with much of a plan there's just a lot of different stuff I wanted to look at and talk about and there's no sense of order to any of this I actually like this mechanism for removing the plates a lot better though now another thing I want to check real quick with the system is the fact that they have changed changed the front Port situation on current models you have a usba and USBC port on the front now it's a pair of USB C's and we've got multiple usba on the back this personally bothers me a little bit just because I reviewed so many wired controllers and accessories like razor release to that consum a fight pad for the PS5 uh and all of those rely on usba meaning that if you're using them with this redesigned system you now have to plug them into the back which is a little annoying as part of that this cable that that's coming with the system in the past was usba to USBC because that's what you'd be using to charge the controllers now it's a c Toc cable so that at least makes sense I mean they're updating it so that the controller it comes with doesn't have to plug in the back still a little weird I'm curious what they're going to do for the edge controller cuz the edge controller also comes with a c TOA it's a longer one too which is really convenient but I guess you have to plug it in the back now or maybe who knows they refresh those later this year and they start coming with C to C's instead another thing I want to talk about is size comparison stuff because one of the interesting things I've seen happen with this console's releasee so far uh and a lot of people posting pictures of it and stuff is some people being like man it's barely smaller than the current model and other people being like oh wow that's a lot smaller than I thought it would be and the truth I think is somewhere in the middle and a large part of that has to do with where you're looking at on the system uh so here is my current disc PS5 uh worth noting really quick as well this is obviously the new deep Earth collection it's the red one volcanic red uh they have announced they're planning on releasing this color for this new revise system as well along with the blue the silver and black don't know about the other more colorful ones they've done in the past like the light blue and the pink but we do know colors like this are coming to the slim uh so when you look at these side by side right this way like the width sure pretty similar this looks a little thinner but not by much height-wise it's a little shorter but not by much and so when you have them side by side like this it's like yeah it's really not that much smaller then you do the sideways though and I think I think the biggest metric people aren't really like putting into account as much because you don't see it from this angle as often is that this one is a lot thinner depthwise I mean even just line these up and it's like yeah there's a decent distance there it's smaller in all directions by just enough that honestly in my mind this is a much better size like yeah it's not tiny even PlayStation themselves aren't calling it a slim which is hilarious by the way because they cannot Escape that branding all the retailers that have been putting this thing up for sale have been putting Slim in their titles look I'm not going to lie Slim's probably going to go in the title of this video because that's what people are looking for as far as what they're calling this thing despite the fact that PlayStation isn't so yeah it's not like tiny but it is smaller enough in all regards that honestly I think this is a much better size and the biggest way I can really emphasize this I think is picking up and moving the system because this yeah not a big deal this I just feel the heft which the weight I know is part of that too it's not just the size of it it's the weight but still it's the way it all comes together uh let's let's let's now let's now address the elephant in the PlayStation 5 room the stands uh so one of the weird things of this is instead of the large circular stand from the previous model that could be used for both orientations now they're selling a separate stand for vertical which clearly it's standing fine on its own without I mean look let's be real if you're in a situation where you have kids around or pets I have cats at home I would not feel as comfortable leaving this without any kind of additional base support but if you have a place where you can put this and you have no worries of things about like earthquakes or pets or whatever yeah it's going to stand on this side just fine yeah um look I'm going to be I'm going to real honest with you guys I don't hate this as much as I've seen some other people hate on it like it's a little silly it's a little ridiculous looking I think my biggest headache with it really is that in my case I have been known to to swap the orientation of my system pretty often because I'm doing different sets I'm Moving Systems around a lot uh and with the kind of person that I am I am very prone to lose things so I'm very curious how long these feet are going to last I still don't know where the back of my switch OLED dock is if that's any indication of how this is going to go so I I don't love that they are little easily losable feet when they're not being used Honestly though for supporting it when it's sideways I don't I don't hate that it's not my favorite design ever I don't hate it as much as I've seen some people hate on it so then also we'll just get a quick comparison of how the original model sideways in this one sideways look yeah guys I don't know like it's not tiny but I definitely think this is a noticeably smaller size than the original in my mind I don't know I some people have been like man it's basically the same size it's really not I don't know where you're getting that from can you stick it on top of the other I mean the feet are going to this is a terrible idea but I done it only other thing I want to touch on real quick as far as just a as far as just unboxing this thing let's take a look we looked at where the disc is but I actually haven't checked where the SSD is this is a great reminder folks that you should always read directions um oh I either broke something or that is in fact what you're supposed to do okay yeah it is pulling from the same side it just you had to give it a little more than I was afraid to give here we have the expandable storage slot so same side as where the disc gets plugged into as well same deal you just have to unscrew the screw right here I'm going to end up messing with this later because this is going to swap out my office PS5 so I got to move my SSD over to this while it's a little weird at first I think it's just because they're plastic tabs so you have to get used to how it feels to like latch them the right way uh this is a little less annoying to me than it was on the first one you always had to pull from the top Corner especially the launch model I swear they made it easier on those slightly revised models of the original PS5 that came out Midway through so like I said after this I'm going to hook this up and use it for the next couple days and just see whether or not it feels any different compared to the other one obviously performance- wise they're going to be the same but I'm curious how the fan sounds how warm it gets uh and really I think the biggest curiosity for me is whether or not changes made to this one warrant trying to get the original model while you still can uh depending on what you prefer one other upgrade about this that I didn't shout out earlier is the fact this does have larger internal storage the previous models came with 825 which you can only use 675 of which this one is a full terabyte so you're getting almost an extra 200 gigs which is nice uh and I will say personally I know this has been a very divisive thing in general I think I like the look of this one a little more I part of it is I think I just have a thing for smaller systems uh when I think back to some of my favorite designs I go all the way back to like the PS1 not the original PlayStation one but like the cool little tiny one that you could get the attachable screen to I think I just making a system a little smaller and a little more trim tends to make it look better in my eyes I kind of like the dividing line here as well again I know it's kind of a divisive thing but I think I like this one more at least visually but yeah if you want to see those more full thoughts along with coverage of a lot of other PlayStation Hardware I'm planning on reviewing the portal I also ordered the explore headset there's a lot of stuff coming up so if you want to make sure you don't miss out on that content subscribe hit the Bell icon so you don't miss out if you enjoyed this video hit the thumbs up button to let me know and I'll see you guys later
