[Music] today we are going to be learning about chaining we're going to take this nineteen thousand four hundred seventy pound counterweight for a crank we're gonna chain it to this step neck okay we're going to be using two branch binders this ratchet binder here is a 3/8 half-inch this one here is a half five sixteenths and three eighths okay they both are 3/8 so they have the same load capacity we're going to be using 3/8 chains there's three types of chains half-inch is what they use for a lot of your heavy haul stuff heavier ninety thousand and above your 3/8 is what they use for general flatbed five sixteenths is more of light duty chain you can use more of them due to the working load limit we're going to use to 3/8 chains to tie this down okay so we're going to go to the other side okay as you can see I've already got these chains out this is a 3/8 chain great 70 hooks okay wanna look for a good center point loose and they'll put the hook outside problem with this is when you're going down the road and your ranches come loose and yes they will come loose you have to check these chain falls over now a regular flatbed to fall out and pull it up snug okay you see I can't hit that one but I can get this okay I like to go center of where I'm throwing so you see right here I'm Center I've got 20 leverage and I got it tight looks good we have no twist in our chains okay a twisted chain or twisted strap is a weak chain or a weak strap straight on both flings okay then we go back to the other side so now we're back to this side and if you notice this here is the driver's side reason being is and so I can see in my mirrors as I'm going down the road what's going on see if my ranch is coming loose see if the change that you're more likely to catch us in the driver's side mirror because that's the one you look the most down we're gonna pull our chain tight on this here look across make sure you change is straight okay again a straight change could save your life same concept on this side I'm a sinner hook hook once she's tight if you look right here you'll see that my eater my lever for my gears still this way push clocks what I do okay flip the other way this way it goes loose this way it's tight at the back seat to it backs into that lock thank your excess chain rap over its face back your looseness so remember straight chains making sure that if you're on the load it's not there try to keep everything centered up a good rap when you walk by you can snug you still got room to tighten if it needs tightened afterwards you know so that's the basics of chaining okay great thank you if you want to be a part of the nation's largest community of truck drivers download the CDL ifap today and if you'd like to stay informed with more training videos make sure you like and subscribe to our You Tube channel
