Truck camping by the river (with a gourmet campfire meal)

you'd think with it being the beginning of Summer and having just finished upgrading my truck camper that I'd be chomping at the bit to try some new places leave it to me to come straight back to an old favorite first thing this is just really one of the best camping spots there is doesn't hurt that it's so close to home it's just really easy to decide to come here it's raining a little bit I might get to test the waterproofness of my camper earlier than I thought definitely earlier than I'm ready for you can see some blue sky hopefully passes pretty quickly I didn't bring any stuff to make a hot tea or anything because I'm working with a really barebones camping setup right now I last year I bought a camp stove which I thought would be really nice it had a burner and then just a griddle on the other side and I thought that would be really nice and I like the color but I didn't actually like The Griddle part was not very convenient in practice and also it broke pretty much immediately one half of it stopped working so I was just using the working half for the past few camping trips during my last camping video the other half broke so that stove was a piece of garbage so basically I've got instead of a hot tea an ice water and today would be it turns out a really cozy day to have a hot tea I'm actually kind of excited though I'm going to challenge myself a little bit later to make something really yummy without a camp stove [Music] goes and in circles but I'm still on the ground it's a disy day I would you love to get away you get real dark [Music] here feels like [Music] I'm pretty sure there used to be a bridge to get over the river wait oh wait can I go right here no maybe that would work uh there's a mom down here and her kids that were looking for the bridge and couldn't find it so I'm going to tell them about that and let them go I might have been a little bit too late the kids were already trying to scramble across kind of a treacherous looking Branch so anyway there's a lot of kids so I'm going to let them have that half of their R to themselves maybe I'll come back later but in the meantime I saw some firewood at this campsite that looked abandoned I might take it hopefully it wasn't left on purpose but I don't see any sign of anybody I brought some but I don't really know how much I'll need okay I also just saw a big a big fallen tree branch at the next campsite over so between that and what I've scavenged I think we should be good thank goodness it's going to be a long afternoon here if it's stay chilly [Music] I should not have spoken so soon the wind just picked up and it's raining now in earnest today I've been just enjoying a peaceful day in the forest just listening to the sounds of nature and it's been perfectly past couple of days it's fine if I just use my fridge as a cutting board right I have never made this dish before I don't know why I decided the right time to try it for the first time would be camping when I don't have even so much as a propane stove and when I have a crowd coming to eat it but here we are all I've had time to do is chop one pepper in half and now this is what we're working with I'm not really following a recipe here I'm just kind of going based on intuition luckily it seems like jalapeno poppers are kind of foolproof knock on wood I'm going to add some blackberry jam to these because I think that jalapeno and blackberry is an elite combination however I did not bring a utensil specifically for the jym can I use a toothpick no going to just do a little bit I don't want Blackberry to be the main thing you taste okay I really love a good sweet and savory combo so I I want to try doing a brown sugar coat on these but I'm also kind of afraid that might tip the scales too far to the sweet side so I'm going to do a couple with the sugar and a couple without okay so the ones with stems have sugar I'll try to remember that I'm going to try cooking these and then whichever one turns out more delicious I'm going to make a bunch more for when my friends come up and hang out this evening oh my gosh this is disgusting I should have put the tin foil on the fridge you me [Music] [Music] I was concerned there for a minute that I wasn't going to be able to get a fire going I didn't bring that much paper or that much kindling and the wind kept blowing it out before it could really get going I kind of thought I was hosed for a second but I scavenged some stuff and got it going that would have been an embarrassing end to this video [Music] [Music] I feel like I should add some more logs but I'm also trying to save my measly Supply my friends aren't still going to be here for like 2 more hours now I don't want to wander too far to scavenge for more I am unprepared as usual [Music] w these are sizzling good [Music] ooh okay I cannot remember which ones had brown sugar let's see if I can tell I feel like it was the stems that had the sugar wasn't it I think it was probably the other one I'm going to be hon honest this could use some work it's good it's definitely not a home run first try there's not a whole lot of flavor I think maybe I need to be more generous with the jam I can't taste Blackberry at all okay that bite was better okay I'm going to do more jam and more sugar on all of them on the plus side seems like they're pretty much perfectly cooked look at that ignore my grubby fingers please just for the record I have not had a single fleeting moment where I regretted selling the bus it just works so much better for me to do it this way like with the bus I couldn't get anywhere that I wanted to go really not anywhere but I couldn't get most of the places I wanted to go and then once I did get places I was stuck there and responsible for a school bus you know this way I can have my house and then when I'm camping I can really be camping and actually appreciating it I'm just way too lazy of a person to ever start a fire when I could just sit inside my warm bus to ever try cooking over a campfire when I could just use my oven in my bus sometimes it's nice to be forced to haul a giant dead log through the forest you know what I mean don't ask me why but it is [Music] oh [Music]
