waves audio have over 200 plugins providing you with all the tools you could possibly need for mixing and mastering music in this video i'm going to show you my top five favorite plugins that i use in every single mix session i'm going to show you what they do how i use them and why i think you should consider purchasing them hi my name's ed from edon.com here to help you make the most out of your home studio here's my top five number one the ssle channel strip this is my longest standing favorite plugin from waves and i use it all the time it's a very versatile plugin and it's really great to use on individual channels and also stereo bus channels there are hundreds of presets available but the one i use the most frequently is the backing vocal preset it's got a gate to eliminate breaths between phrases that may clash with the lead vocal breath a heavy compressor to make sure no transients peek out and clash with the leads and i usually roll off the tops to minimize sibilance that might also clash with the lead vocals i'll mention this now there are links to all these plugins in the description below if you find this video useful and fancy supporting the channel purchasing through these links is a great way to do that at no extra cost to you number two the f6 dynamic eq and this plug-in single-handedly elevated all of my mixers up another level this plugin works as a standard eq but you can set it to respond to the audio source to increase or reduce frequencies depending on how prominent they are in the source for example a bass note may have a particularly resonant frequency which then isn't as prominent on the other notes instead of permanently dipping that frequency which will thin out the sound of the other notes you can simply set the eq to react to the frequency dynamics of the source it also enables you to sidechain the eq to another channel or bus now what this means is if you have a guitar channel for example that sounds great on its own but it clashes with the vocals in the one to three kilohertz region you can sidechain the guitar to the vocals so that when the vocals are performing the f6 plugin dips the eq on the guitar between one to three kilohertz and then it flattens out the eq again when the vocals aren't present this is a very powerful tool and can be applied to any instrument in your mix whether it be a guitar or an organ or a vocal to help that channel sit above the rest of the mix but also to enable the mix to sound full when that particular channel isn't present now i'll probably do a full video on this at some point because it's such a good plug-in and sidechaining is a really useful and powerful tool for our mixing if this sounds like something you'd be interested in please consider subscribing and hitting the little bell icon so you get notified when videos come out weekly [Music] number three the wlm waves loudness meter plus this plugin displays your lufs levels and your tracks dynamic range lufs is the standard measurement for streaming an online platform such as spotify youtube apple music netflix podcasting and gaming this is a standardized measurement to make sure that your music isn't too quiet and conversely isn't too loud which may definitely end listener this is an essential tool for mastering and prepping your music for social media the plugin sits on the end of your master bus chain after all your other effects to take into account any compression eq and limiting you may be using which may affect the volume of your track there's a short term level meter a long term level meter which is the overall lu fs level of your entire track and also a dynamic range meter which is nice to gauge how much variation in volume there is across your track you can also impose a peak limiter and adjust the output in the plug-in accordingly oh by the way i should mention waves also offer a subscription service if you'd rather pay a small amount of money per month and get access to loads of plugins maybe this is the best option for you starting from as little as 6.99 there are different packages available with different add-on options to suit your budget so there's something for everyone if you'd like to find out more click on this video in the description below number four the j37 tape machine this is quite simply just a great sounding tape machine plug-in that can be used to saturate or in extreme circumstances distort your audio i use this as a signature mix element at least once in every mix session usually on a backing vocal to create some energy and texture here's an example on a recent mix i've done you can hear more examples of this in all of the songs i have on spotify see if you can spot where i've used this my spotify is in the description this plugin is also a great way to add some density to a drum buss and distortion to a bass guitar organ or synth channel if you're finding this video useful please tickle the like button it does help youtube recognize the video which helps the channel grow and i really appreciate the support [Music] number five the studio rack studio rack is one of the most powerful plugins you will find and it is free studiorec enables you to utilize all of your waves plugins in one ingenious plugin with unparalleled processing capabilities you can send parallel sends to a channel or bus and process them independently to the main channel you can add up to five multi-band split sections and process each one differently a bit like a multi-band compressor but you can add processing to each individual frequency band for example if you wanted to compress the bass frequencies below 100 hertz and add some sub you can do also if you wanted to add some reverb to the top end of your frequency spectrum to add some glistening sparkle you can also assign these macros for easily accessible parameter adjustments for example if you wanted to change the decay of a reverb or the wet to dry balance of the reverb just click on a dial select the plugin in your insert chain select which parameter you want to adjust and here it is easily accessible i have two videos exploring studio rack in more detail and the intro music you heard earlier was mixed exclusively using studio rack if you'd like to see both of these videos click the links in the description below if you like the plugins featured in this video and like i said if you'd like to support the channel please consider purchasing them through the links in the description below this is at no extra cost to you you still get the same great deals let me know in the comments below which plugins you will buy or which ones you have and why you love them as much as i do thanks for watching keep creating music be kind to one another stay safe what else do i need to say i'll see you on the next one
