we moved into the kind of about four months ago and we actually found this place because we were living in Hamilton and then we've got a job at thicket so we had to move to the city pretty quickly and we found this and it was great location and we had some friends in the neighboring building which is awesome this is a one-bedroom plus den apartment and it's about 700 square feet we pay 2275 Canadian a month here which actually in Toronto this part of Toronto is pretty good we're fairly downtown here it was one of the selling points for us for getting this one for sure it was our first time finding a place together last Christmas I was living separately he was living separately and my landlord actually sold my apartment so I had to kind of quickly kind of shack in with him in Hilton so this is our first time really finding a home together few things came with us like the sofa is older and a couple pieces but it was really about making a more neutral space with his things and my things and also a more neutral kind of masculine color palette than I had at my last place compromises you know there are things we disagree on like how many pillows should be on a bed and things like that but we're figuring it out and I think we're both feeling really at home here the whole condo was very builders beige and it just felt a bit gloomy and I wanted to freshen it up and brighten everything up we have big windows in here but we don't always get the most light so painting everything white just felt fresh it felt clean and it was a nice blank canvas for us to work with we spend a lot of time in the living room watching Netflix we kept it very kind of pared back in minimal in here we do like to have a lot of friends over so having enough space for everyone is important to us the dining tables right here so people can easily pull in chairs which is great as for the aesthetic we were really inspired by our recent trip to Portugal that we took and this photograph that we took along a hike these are the limestone cliffs along the ocean we were just really inspired by the palette felt so natural and we really like to have art on the walls that feels personal to us so blowing up a big travel photograph was kind of the jumping-off space for the color palette in here the side table it's a vintage side table I found it at vintage find objects one of my favorite city haunts and to me it just felt so rustic and natural it kind of went with our dining table and again it felt old and beat up and it felt like it had a soul I think I never really pictured myself as a condo dweller and so I I don't want our home to feel super sleek and condo like I wanted to add a lot of natural rustic pieces just to give it more of a homey feel we are very lucky that we can fit a dining table in a small space and this was really important to me I found this table at Christie's antique market for I think $350 so it was a great price it was in great shape the thing I love about this dining table is that I don't want our home to feel too precious and it's already it's old so it's got Nicks it's beat-up it's scratched so I don't have to worry about any of that here but it's really just adds that coziness the home I think it keeps our home from feeling too City which I really like and it's a great place to have people over for a nice meal my aesthetic is definitely neutrals white walls natural colors I think that Luke previously maybe didn't have as much of an aesthetic he moved into his last apartment after med school in Ireland and his parents had kind of furnished it for him so I don't think he ever had a chance to really develop his own taste he definitely liked Star Wars and you'll see a little bit of that sprinkled throughout our place we have you know a little Star Wars salt and pepper shaker and there's a few things behind the cover it's like a toaster and things that aren't on display this is about the extent of the Star Wars that I let Luke keep out in the apartment and les mugs endless do you like your toast on the light side or the dark side I work from home and Luke does a lot of studying so we needed a big office space in here I also have two girls who helped me out part time so having a space where we can all work is really important we're really lucky that the office is pretty large for a condo the one thing that is both a blessing and a curse is that it's so open to the rest of the living space we really have to keep it organized and clean to keep work from spilling into her personal lives so we added two nice desks with one long big desk surface and we just really make an effort at the end of the day put our desk away keep it nice and organized the painted piece on the back wall I actually painted Luke isn't big into abstract art so I threw in a little abstract Yoda on there and showed him it and now he loves it so I think I stashed that one out of the park I really like our bedroom it's just so beautiful in light-filled and I think in every apartment I've had before this I never really did the bedroom part of it I always just kind of that was no one saw it so I kind of just flopped it off here our bedroom is right off the living room so it is a visible space so I knew it was important to finish it nicely and it's it's so rewarding to me to finally have a bedroom that feels done and decorated so because this is a rental obviously we didn't want to spend a fortune on decorating it and we also couldn't have a dresser in the bedroom so our solution was to make our nightstands larger and they're actually at DIY from Ikea but my previous apartment I had hacked some DIY dressers so they were small and I added some wood framing around the drawer fronts and I painted them and added new knobs and they turned out really great we brought them here and they were the perfect size between the bed and the two dressers acting aside tables I think we were like half an inch perfect fit the one thing that wasn't crazy about with the color so we painted them a nice olive green a little bit more moody and masculine and we love how they turned out I like them even better than when they were I would say in total each night staying costs about $200 for a very custom look between our two side tables we each have three drawers which is amazing and then there's a nice big closet in there that we've we've gotten rid of a lot we had to go through our closets and kind of pare down which is actually really rewarding and now we just have the pieces that we love in there the best part of living here is that we have a lot of friends in the neighborhood and we love that I think when we were in Hamilton we were a little bit isolated from that so now getting to see our friends all the time and make those memories in our home is so special [Music]
