This guy does some pretty great reviews on both clothing/gear and tents. Iโve watched a few of them in the past and his โno agendaโ policy is pretty refreshing.
This reminds me of a hike I did with my niece. She had a super cheap single person A-frame. I had my new REI quarter dome 2. It rained at night, and was cold, as we were at 8500 feet. I woke to hear her crying, as her tent had leaked all night. She got no sleep, and was somewhat frozen. I felt bad. My tent was bone dry.
We had to power out the hike and skip the next night, as her tent and sleeping bag were so wet, there was no way they would dry in time, and more rain was visible on the horizon.
She has since bought a much better tent for our yearly hike! Like this guy says, you get what you pay for.
I bought on of the river country tents for $35 and sealed it all myself with $10 sealant.
It has worked flawlessly for several seasons. A little upkeep goes a long way.
Cheap tents are fine as long as you seam seal them.
