[Music] [Music] hey there folks look here the Android Riverview and today you guys are joining for a military surplus overnight adventure now as you can see I am driving moose the moose is loose oh yay kick back get a cup of coffee let's get to it right now folks we are on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western North Carolina in probably 20 or 30 minutes or so we're going to hop onto this and we're going to begin heading down into disco National Forest now the biskits National Forest is roughly 500,000 acres of just amazing plain what we are looking at is hundreds of miles of gravel road which we are going to explore now that overlooked that we passed back there that is known as Thunder hill and as a very cool story as to how it got its name and it actually deals with a Bigfoot sighting back in the 1920s this was all farm country and like a barber at his ranch out here I guess his wife earth Thunder and she came outside the horses the farm and when she came out there was this big hairy Bigfoot creature and basically like it I charged it in she ran and was able to get onto the porch and others came and it ran off and supposed it had like terrorized the community here a number of people saw it now with this area here when I was a kid this was the area that you did not go down into they had an extremely poor reputation and the truth is it may still be that way I really Oh No it used to be very violent there used to be a lot of drug activity down here and with that being the case I am packing some peace today and I'll show you guys that later on corrugations man I think that's what the Audis refer to as washboarding on the road coordination and now that we're on this gravel road here like I mentioned before it down it does go hundreds of miles literally into the middle of nowhere and that's exactly what we want for this trip the plan here is that there is no plan we are simply driving this road cruising around or will be freezing off we're going to go anywhere that we want to namely anywhere that I want that's not driving hi in this Rose does get pretty rough and that's okay gorgeous we'll be taking any road that we want to let's just see where we end up since this is national forest land we have no idea what roads are open roads are closed sometimes they're open sometimes they're not sometimes it depends on the season this truck rattles exactly how an old truck should now I plugged it down into the lowest gear because this road is really really steep if I'm not terrible I will burn up my fries the conditions today are perfect right now the temperatures are around 55 degrees Fahrenheit incredibly comfortable later on tonight the temps will get down to roughly 39 40 degrees and there is rain and possibly thunderstorms on the way sounds exciting all we have to do is figure out where we're going to camp at I have no idea I really do when I was a teenager my buddies and I our parents always said do not go down into the globe now of course when we got our licenses what did we do we went down here but they could keep it down we would always be driving around exploring the roads we used to drive all night long on these roads having a blast you know the truth is we never did have heat issues of any sort you know the main thing is is that you are literally out in the middle of nowhere and since these are all forest roads there's no guarantee that you're actually going to come across the book if you have a flat tire if you go off the road if something happens we were always very very lucky I haven't been down here in probably Sally 15 years maybe it's been a long time a really long time [Music] now you may be wondering if we're going to do any true off-roading where we have to engage the four-wheel drive and all that stuff and the truth is I have no idea since I'm not sure where we're headed I really don't know what we're about to face that's kind of the fun in this with your series we are going to be heading all over the place no idea where exactly we're just going to be hitting up roads being where they take when I purchased this truck this is exactly what I was imagining with cating up the backroom heading into the backcountry all by ourselves no people so far on this trip once we turn onto the gravel road there was one vehicle in front of us he pulled off yet some building materials for what looked like a bridge and that's been so far speaking of that bridge there are hiking trails backpacking trails mountain biking trails all over this place literally hundreds of them in the future we will definitely be checking out some of these trails now we've been driving for roughly an hour here here in the backcountry it takes forever to get in here the roads are still windy so steep in such bad shape it just takes so much any time that you're coming out into the Pisgah National Forest the crews on the gravel roads you better plan on it just taking it all day [Music] [Music] this road is so bad that it actually hurts my feelings the view up here is all of them right now the plan and basically just to Ikea Road going to pull off on it let's go check it out essentially we're explorers oh yeah [Applause] [Music] now this is one thing that I love about the Pisgah National Forest is that there are roads that branch off all over the place but they're not always open which makes for really awesome backpacking and exploring such as this here now those sisters wear the clothes let's just go back keep on trucking so the question is folks what is this there's only one way to find out [Music] boiled again my friend the gate is closed all right it looks like we have some sort of hiking backpacking hiking trail Wilson Ridge eleven point four miles more difficult huh all right well let's carry on all right so two roads have been a bust so far that's open we have all day this really doesn't look like a road more like a bush trail but let's just go ahead and let's put it up let's see where it goes now this is this is really risky because the trail itself it's very narrow and I'm not sure if we will be able to turn around so yeah let's do it [Music] guys look at this I think we have found paradise I think this place was made for us check this out not only is it extremely private we had to come up this rocky road there's a fire pit right here it looks like we have some sort of rock formation right here maybe we can climb on top of this and check it out honestly I can't imagine a better place than this I don't think we'll find a spot that says awesome as this one I could swear that I've been hearing stuff I thought for certain that I heard something snort at me just a minute ago hmm I don't know don't see anything I do have some protection with me for this trip because this is out truly in the middle of nowhere you never know what you're going to encounter I am carrying and concealing my handgun Glock 43 great little gun well the day is young there's still lots of light left hours and hours so let's do a little bit of hiking shall we right down here was a trail there was some sort of sign but it looked like the sign was actually missing it was just the post standing up so why don't we walk down the road a little bit and go check that out maybe there's some good hiking to be found all right thank you direction we came from we can of course keep on go in that direction but it's down here that I believe there's a trail of some sort now there are a few things that I have to keep my eyes open for one ticks this is going to be take season because it wasn't very cold in the winter so lots of ticks also I need to be on the lookout for snakes namely copperheads rattlesnakes no backpack with me no water so hopefully this is a too long bike we shall see this is cool all right looks like the trail continues on this way little bit of damage in the winter a couple of big limbs down all right I found a source of water that's good because I've been wondering if there's any around here so there's a pretty good flow coming out of this culvert so if I need more water than what I brought with me I can definitely come out here and fill up at one point in time there was a forest fire here I was kind of thinking that earlier when we were walking through because a lot of the vegetation is very very small so definitely within the last couple of years there's a fire right here's some good evidence of that black charred continues on up here black charred with these old trails like this they could go for 20 30 miles maybe even more man I really really want to hike this trail but without a good map it's not a smart thing to do especially when you have 500,000 acres to get lost in now just in case you haven't seen my other videos about this truck as I mentioned this is a 1986 military cut v-m 1008 four-wheel drive 6.2 liter diesel and I absolutely love it I love this truck it has taken me all over the place already and with other adventures up other upcoming adventures it will take us all over the state of North Carolina and beyond everyone wrong I will hear a weird sound it kind of sounds like a oh no not quite a growl but a huff I'm not sure what exactly it is I told you all already about the Bigfoot experience there at Thunderhill now the Episcopal Forest has had I mean literally hundreds and hundreds of Bigfoot sightings one sighting took place in the 80s not far from here there was a hunter you can hunt out here the Pisgah National Forest but there was a hunter he was out hunting and he was making his way back to his cars in his truck and he said that something was following him in the woods and it was growling at him and occasionally would throw a rock in his direction and that was back in the 80s and to this day he will not return back to the Pisgah National Forest so tonight when we're eating dinner eating an MRE I will tell you guys a bunch of stories from this area in regards to Bigfoots lots and lots of Bigfoot sightings lots of UFO sightings down here as well so this is my pack here and this is a Dutch military pack medium size you can zip on like sustainment pouches which also form a backpack it's a really cool system here and I may just give it away in a future giveaway because you guys are that awesome now inside of this bag I have tools for the truck I have all sorts of stuff that's why I didn't carry with me when I was out hiking earlier okay so for the stove I have a Swiss stove and this is the m71 stove very inexpensive and whenever you run out of the gel it's like an alcohol gel on the inside you could replace this with sterno and it makes a much easier to use stove than its turn okay and putting up a windscreen because it is so windy so again here's the in 71 stove check this out guys this is really a neat system with this one here I have refilled it with sterno that sits on top burns away nothing to it very simple but it really does work well okay you can't actually see the flame coming off of this it burns clear as you can see here it is burning it is coffee time now this is actually two cups of water and two different types of coffee mixed together I have folders bags which was sent in by a viewer and then before I came out on this trip Susie went to the mailbox and she found a package from Russell who sit in some special coffee that has like creamer and sugar all mixed together so I blended these two so I can have the ultimate manly cup of coffee oh yeah guys that's not bad at all before I left the house for this adventure I did a search on the internet to see if I could find any military slang and I thought you guys would find interesting and funny so yeah I did find some these are pretty humorous an army truck driver is often referred to as a hemorrhoid so I guess I'm the hemorrhoid for this trip now you guys have seen the Sun before that is known as Bob big orange balls a fart sack is a sleeping bag a pad is a sleeping pad because tough men don't need sleeping pads am i using a sleeping pad tonight dang right every once in a while I swear I hear something I mean it could just be the trees but I don't know if the cameras picking up on it but sometimes it sounds weird hmm I don't know so continuing on with the slang as I mentioned before money is beer vouchers which is pretty funny KP is kitchen Patrol and that's someone who like works in the kitchen serves food and so on Chow is food a gut truck is like a meal on wheels sort of thing that's pretty funny dead soldiers are empty beer cans and by the end of the night I will have a few of those laying around now folks I want to take one second here and thank a few people first off I want to thank Kip for making this adventure possible he helped out in a huge way Kip actually covered the fuel for this trip so I want to say thank you so very much you are a good man a good friend thank you very much buddy also I want to take a second and thank all of the viewers everyone who is watching this video right now I want to say a big thank you to because you guys make this channel possible I'm doing this adventure because you guys have asked for it so again I want to thank everyone of course a special shout out has to be given to those on patreon who help support the channel with some funds again it's appreciated cheers folks alright time for the tip this is part one this is part two with the breeze coming in from the West blowing towards the east it will blow the smoke and the embers out very very important because I do not want to burn a hole in this right here this is the Nemo ALCS one person se ALCS stands for advanced linking combat system [Music] the folks here is the tenth almost fully set up as it is right now it's ready to go but I do have a camouflage cover which I will put over this this is made from a special type of vortex which is pretty unique a pretty rare from what I understand you have two doors one on this side you have a vent right here the other door you also have another vent going to stake this out here and I have a Swiss Kitchen hatchet so here's the setup that is a sweet sweet looking tent pretty solid anchored down I mean it's incredibly windy right now and it's not going anywhere this is my sleeping bag for the night check this thing out this is Czech military this is a 3-piece system the outside is nylon it's water-resistant on the inside there's a wool blanket and also some cotton linen as a sheet pretty cool smells like sweet military surplus if you would like more information about this setup here check out my channel I have a video on almost every product that you're seeing here except for this one this will be coming up later on now as mentioned I will be sleeping on a sleeping pad and this pad right here is somewhat uncommon this is made by therm-a-rest and this is the Mar pad I do not believe they make this anymore this is essentially a pro light +3 ethic but with the marpat camo pattern on it as mentioned thermo rest refers to this as the marf had this is a self inflating pad just open up the valve lay it down it will blow itself up the last component is my pillow and this is made by climate and this is the Recon push look at the size of this thing is huge so there you go you can pull this thing up a million different ways as a whole therefore your ear so you can sleep on it so here's the inside of my tent all ready to go this thing will be inflated later on then I could just roll this over on top of myself I have a sheet here here's the blanket cover up oh yeah I'm going to go ahead undo that here so I can get some good airflow coming into the tent I'll do the same on this side perfect so as mentioned this is the Swiss Kitchen hatchet now I sharpen this actually this morning before I left and how I did that will we make some of you vomit because I actually used a dremel tool to do it I didn't have time to really get out my tools I had to do it dirty and fast but I've definitely made this thing extremely sharp not sharp enough to shave with but it hurts your bad if you made a mistake alright folks and it's time to kick back and relax got everything set up the tent ready to rock and roll fire pretty much ready to rock and roll and right here is a beer it's time for some Yingling I'm a fan of Yingling myself I rarely drink beer I usually do not buy 24 answers but that's the only thing the store had so it looks like I'm a raging alcoholic which I am no I'm not but I'm yeah I figured that I will salute the men and women who have served in the Army the military all around the world everybody is doing their diligence trying to do the best for their country I can respect that so cheers to you all oh man that is awesome that is really good now of course the outdoor gear review is on Facebook so make sure to go over there and like that page you will find a direct link in the description box you could join the other 10,000 plus individuals who have liked the page now I posted a picture of the truck of a campsite here and I asked for stories from soldiers people who have served before if they would like to share a story other time in the military and I've had a number of responses here I let everybody know that I would share these stories with you all in this video our first story comes from Paul he served in the US Army for 20 years thank you very much for your service brother 7 of which was light infantry according to Paul here it was those seven years which ruined him from camping and being outdoors but luckily he has got his case for the wilderness back he's out he's out camping again he's actually through hiked the Appalachian Trail way to go man that is awesome again thank you very much for your service brother so Brian here he spent eight years in the Navy working on electronics for helos awesome right on the flight deck of aircraft carriers Wow and he actually posted a picture on here that is very very cool Anthony Marine Corps mountain warfare school Jeremy says that he spent seven years in the Army as an 11 B infantryman I'm not sure what 11 B stands for I'm sure that's like a rank or something he made it to Iraq in 2003 for the initial invasion wave Wow see he spent a year in Korea in 2005 where he fell in love with the outdoors and the beautiful mountains and countryside awesome thank you very much for your service by the way brother thank you yeah he says that he had his first and last taste of dog meat while he was there Justin says I am in my thirtieth year with the British Royal Navy Wow 30 years Wow but he just says he was a 19 kilo not sure what that means otherwise known as an oh okay otherwise known as an m1 Abrahms armor crewman Wow for 13 years got medically retired - they slept on the tank so that they had one rule when it came to sleeping on the tank and that was never moved the turret thank you very much for your service brother it is appreciated so what I have here is a campfire log and this thing absolutely rocks essentially it says here that three bundles of wood equals one log and I can't tell you that this thing will burn for bloody ever all you have to do is simply light the paper and it just takes off on its own no this is not a military product it's just a good product now folks it's not quite dinner time but I figured since we're sitting around the fire we might as well talk about the Bigfoot sightings in the Pisgah National Forest and I have literally two pages here countless reports and honestly I could have printed out hundreds but I picked out some of these because I thought they were interesting okay here's a report from 2005 this individual states that they saw a silver haired creature very muscular it appeared to be resting on the ground stood up and moved away very quickly once it ran away from him he followed it just a little bit and came across a track in the mud that was 16 inches long 8 inches wide this is an official mr e this is the entire kit has the heater all that good stuff this is menu number 16 pork rib here is the entire kit and there's quite a bit to this so this is the heating element essentially I mean it's foolproof you put water in this you filter this line right here very simple water time and I overfilled it just a little bit oops take your pork rib place it on top of fold over so it doesn't leak out and stick it back in the box and lay it on a rock just like so so essentially what I will be making here is a pork rib sandwich let's do a taste test right from the package here I'll tell you guys how it is hmm very weird consistency truly strange very very hot it is time for the barbecue sauce do a quick little taste test here it's not the best it's not the worst to be honest we did that almost tastes like spaghetti that's weird it tastes like SpaghettiOs that's really strange let's go it's not bad by any means the barbecue sauce really tastes more like marinara that barbecue sauce it's not bad at all slightly weird but not bad not my sport here to make this thing easier to eat because it's just dripping juices and marinara all over the place this wouldn't be my go-to meal when I mount backpacking but I've definitely had a whole lot worse than this for you folks who have served in the military what is the worst MRE the absolute worst what is the one that you would just like oh man I do not want this who wants to trade what would it be I didn't realize I was this hungry until I started eating but I'm starving so I'm going to go ahead eat dinner bring you guys back when I'm done and there she is that's moose yes the truck did awesome no complaints at all as I mentioned before it's a rough ride right the suspension is really made for like hauling and carrying heavy loads so every bump BuChE BuChE BuChE I definitely felt it but she did champion coming she did really really good this truck has low mileage on its 40-something thousand miles on this truck not bad for being thirty years old with a 6.2 liter diesel very fuel efficient getting over 20 miles a gallon with this truck most people are really surprised by that but with the 6.2 it's a very good motor and the 6.2 was also in the Humvee for a long time eventually they went to the 6.5 and from what I understand from what I've been told from mechanics in my area and from what I've read online the 6.5 is really really troublesome some of the early 6.5 s they were okay they weren't as much electronics but later on it just became a mess really hard to work on lots of issues so if you're looking for a military truck or a Humvee go for the 6.2 liter it's just a really really good reliable engine not a lot of power not a lot of power you know my plans aren't to do anything too crazy as far as like off-road stuff I mean this truck is not really built for like extreme like rock crawling Xtreme 4x4 it's too long it's too wide right yeah I really purchased this truck so we could hit up the back roads cruise around and have a great time some people have asked about tires right now the stock tires that I have on it they're brand-new they're Cooper something or others and they're just fine in the future I may go with something that's a little bit more knobby a little bit more off-road and aggressive but tires are really expensive and the simple truth is is that after purchasing the truck I don't have the money left over to go out and spend $1,000 on tires right so yeah maybe in the future that's something I will address but right now we'll leave it completely stock [Music] [Music] folks as you can see here a forest fire definitely came through this is definitely burned so it's this tree here and that explains why the underbrush is so in an early stage of growth right within the last year or so there was a fire out here I mean it happens all the time in the Pisco National Forest lightning strikes humans how goes incredibly beautiful I mean it really is now as I was kick it back watching the sunset I was staring at this rock formation up here and I realized that this was fractured this is actually drilled and broken off so all these pieces that you see here are because of drilling you can actually see the drill marks so you can see a drill mark right there drill mark right here more drill marks up here that's really really interesting I wonder what purpose that served because I mean obviously the rocks weren't here they'd only drilled on the very top of that rock formation not in the middle hmm hmm very interesting check out this salamander see how vibrant he is in color that means he is poisonous all right guys it is time to call it a night I'm tired the sun's going down the fire's almost out I have plenty of wood left to burn but the truth is up tired that one beer was enough to make me sleepy right so yep it is time to kick back relax inside of the tent I didn't bring my iPad tonight so no movies nothing like that and that's all right I guess I will wait for the rain to come I'll wait for Bigfoot to come crashing through before I go to bed I will read you guys one more story from this area I think you guys will find this very interesting April 15th 1986 campers see an 8 foot tall Bigfoot with red eyes I mean it just goes on and on pretty crazy indeed my accommodations here look spectacular I cannot wait to hop in roll up inside of my fart sack inside of my sleep system here I can take my sleeping bag just cover up just like this go got my pillow oh man this is living alright folks I'll see you guys in the morning I'll definitely bring you back if anything crazy happens do that everyone good mortar folks good morning folks mornin has come it's roughly going to 7:30 and last night was pretty great around 2 o'clock in the morning it started raining and all it all slept really really good nothing beats the sound of rain just coming down on your tent but it did well it rained pretty good for maybe an hour so looks like everything's pretty wet outside so yeah I'm going to kick back for just a little bit relax kind of wake up surf the internet check out the weather for the day and hop out of the tent it is all those coffees you know I'm waking up here and I just checked the weather to make sure that that rain wasn't going to come right and I just loaded up the radar and it looks like we have rain and storms on the way right now I mean it's almost here ok so I'm going to have to move fast I need to move fast I mean it looks like it's not just a shower looks like it's some sort of front or something coming down so it's going to be raining for a while so I think I need to just break down this camp here as quickly as possible all right this morning I was playing on having a fire and all that stuff but I don't think there's going to be time for that I might just have to eat my breakfast in the truck so I better get my clothes on and move quick because rain storms are coming yes I was too late I caught the weather too late the rain is here already and all I had time for was basically to put my pants on huh yes yeah well no well that's very very interesting namely because I really didn't plan on rain because the forecast had stated that there would be some rain around midnight and then today Tuesday is supposed to be fine it wasn't supposed to supposed to be writing all morning so yeah shame on me I do not have a rain jacket huh that is how it goes sometimes okay well what I'm going to do is begin breaking down camp from the inside out yeah I love camping it's always an adventure okay inside of the truck now warming up a little bit I am one wet dog that's the truth it's bringing pretty good out there luckily it feels pretty good in here I pretty much have everything stowed in the truck now it's kind of a mess but yeah that's how it goes sometimes I could be cold and miserable but yet at the same time I love it that's what the outdoors is all about not having any rain gear really was my bad he just cannot take the forecast for their work right yep that was my mistake folks with that being the case no coffee no breakfast I think it's time to get out of here it's time to start rolling might as well just head to the houses of so wet yeah I want to thank you all very much for joining me for this adventure I've had a complete blast I hope you all have to this trip was a lot of experimenting for me personally as like a filmmaker making this video as you often tell somebody else is with me for this trip because I could not film the driving part all by myself that's something that I learned in the past while just experimenting I had to have a cameraman or in some cases a camera so guys thank you very much for joining me for this trip let me know your thoughts down below if you like it you know the thumbs up just liked it give it a thumbs down course on patreon if you want to until next time strength and honor be well [Music] [Music] [Music]
