i can almost guarantee you've never seen one of these before this is an oled switch that has been jailbroken and modified to run custom firmware and i'm gonna show you everything you can do with a modded switch how you can jailbreak your switch and how to check if you can mod your switch right now from homebrew applications to streaming apps emulation and even running full-fledged android on your switch i have put in months of work and research into making this video and i really hope it shows so please consider leaving a like if you enjoy the video and let's get started i got a lot of comments in my videos about my hair and let me tell you taking care of something this delicate is not easy i want to show you something crazy check this out look at this graph look how scary this graph is statistically two out of every three men will experience some sort of male pattern baldness by the time they're 30. and the sad thing is that there is something that can be done about this that's where keeps comes in keeps is a monthly subscription service that helps men keep hair on their head they offer clinically proven fda approved treatments to help you straighten your hair and prevent hair loss before it even happens they have a network of 24 7 medical advisors that can help you prescribe the perfect plan for your hair and they're always available to help your needs best part is everything is shipped to your house you'll never have to go to a pharmacy or doctor's office to get your prescription ever again which is super handy whether it's preventing hair loss maintaining strains or just being able to keep the hair on your head that you already have keith makes it super simple and easy to be able to maintain your hair without ever having to leave your home and you can get 50 off your first order when you use my link keeps.com dammit jeff or just click the link in the description too that's k-e-e-p-s dot com slash dammit jeff and thanks to keith's for supporting the channel [Music] okay so you want a jailbreak how do you get started well good news is unlike something like a ps4 jailbreak where only a select few on certain firmwares can jailbreak a lot more people are going to be able to jailbreak their switches it's all just a matter of how difficult you want it to get quick disclaimer this is not a tutorial as video tutorials tend to go out of date really fast i would not suggest using any video tutorials if you're generally interested in modding your switch i'll leave a link to the switch hacks guide in the description it's constantly updated and it has answers for any questions you might have but for 99 of people the easiest simplest way to get started with mounting switches is the original v1 version of the switch these switches are really special the first switches that nintendo sold contain a vulnerability in their design that due to the nature of its design can't ever be patched out or blocked by nintendo so if you happen to own a launch model switch or if you bought a switch before mid 2018 you have an unpatched switch that can be modded really really easily which is really special if you're not sure how old your switch is fortunately they've made websites for this type of thing so you can check link in the description just type in your switch's serial number which can be found here or in your settings here and it'll tell you if your switch is patched or not so how does jailbreaking work well jailbreaking is done by exploiting the fact that all switches have a built-in recovery mode that is useful for nintendo but practically useless for most people now this mod has been patched in your switches but on the older switches all you have to do is bridge contact between two points the joy-con rail to enter recovery mode people used to use paper clips and stuff but nowadays you can get one of these 3d printed jigs that will make perfect contact with the right points every single time i'll leave a link to these in the description they're really cheap the payload that most people push to the switch is called hekate which gives you a functional pretty menu that lets you pick what custom firmware you want to load along with some other utilities the most popular custom firmware is called atmosphere it basically looks and functions exactly like the regular switch os but with modifications that make it more friendly for homebrew stuff and that's pretty much it that's how 99 of people use their modded switch now let's talk about version 2 switches switch lights and specifically oled switches as for now and for the foreseeable future there's no way to jailbreak these things via software nintendo found out about the exploit around 2018 and patched them in hardware so no one can just use a jig and enter our cm mode anymore but rcm mode is still on these devices there's just no button or contacts to get to them anymore so how do they do it let me show you this is my oled switch and it's been modified with a mod chip now my chips are in a weird gray area in terms of legality and i'm not a lawyer so i won't explicitly say if they're legal or not but it doesn't even matter these chips are difficult to find they're expensive and they require to be comfortable with micro soldering like this is not some simple soldering done here like it's pretty intricate and most importantly nintendo has done bad things to people who have tried to distribute and install these so they're likely just not worth your time this is my best advice for you if you have a patch switch or switch light and you really really want to get into modding it's honestly to just sell it use that money to buy a v1 unpatch switch on like ebay or offer up they're not as expensive as you think and they're often cheaper than even buying a switch brand new so it shouldn't be hard to grab one off the used market i'll leave an ebay link in the description if you want to check for yourself how much they're going for but back to the olet switch my chip switches function exactly the same as v1 switches only they're programmed to always boot into rcm mode and boot off of a payload off the sd card instead of a computer it boots up and it boots directly into hekate where we can load our custom firmware now that your jailbroken you can open up the homebrew menu and start using homebrew i'm not going to pretend to know how this works but basically you go to your gallery tab and instead of screenshots you now get this homebrew menu to access all of your apps there's lots of stuff you can download but let's take a look at some of the most popular ones first off the homebrew store this is where you can get lots of different stuff downloaded to your switch and is where i recommend you start first they have a bunch of homebrew applications you'll need to get the most out of your switch standalone emulators and even ports of games that users have made specifically to run on the switch there's gold leaf that does a bunch of different stuff if you've ever used fbi on a modded 3ds it's basically the same concept it's a file explorer so you can manage your files on your sd card copy paste move things around stuff like that it has a built-in web browser if you've ever felt the need to use the internet on your switch you can manually backup your save data from games dump your amiibos and a bunch of other stuff this app is essential to have on your switch ftpd pro is an ftp client for your switch so you can transfer stuff from your pc to your sd card wirelessly without having to constantly turn off your switch take out your sd card plug it into the computer yada yada it just makes transferring small files back and forth really easy there's an app called sysdvr that lets you stream switch games directly to your pc without the need of a capture card and it works really well it's 720p 30fps but that's literally just the hardware limit of what the switch is capable of nothing else best part is it can work both wired and wirelessly though for the best quality you're going to want to run the whole setup in wired mode mission control is a handy little app that lets any wireless controller whether it be ps4 ps5 xbox 8-bit doze whatever can be natively recognized by the switch as pro controllers it works with everything and functions exactly how you expect it to normally you need to buy a cheapo adapter to do this off of walmart or amazon but modded switches can do it for free skyonex super useful it'll let you stream your pc directly to your switch with full controller and touch pad support which means you can use it like a steam deck or dock it up to your tv and use it as a steam link with support to up to 8 controllers it's a very convenient way to play pc games around the house best part is since the screen actually works as a touch pad some people realize you can actually load up cmo which is a wii u emulator for the pc and use the switch as an actual touchpad how awesome is that there's a system called switch presence which lets you display exactly what switch game you're playing in real time to your discord profile and status monitor overlay which lets you see cpu and gpu clock speeds fan speeds temperature of the switch and a bunch of other stuff but i figure most people using this are going to want to use a real-time fps counter which is really handy if you like looking at stuff like that okay okay i could sit here and talk all day about all the cool homebrew apps on a jailbroken switch but i think you get the idea so let's move on okay so let's talk about switch themes this area of switchbotting is so big and complex it's actually one of the big reasons people jailbreak their switch because everyone eventually gets tired of that empty themes tab in their settings using an app called nx themes installer you can install custom themes right onto your switch that'll change the look of everything that includes the home menu lock screen settings tab games library and a bunch of other little things too like when you pick your profile on a game but where do you get these themes well the most popular website for downloading themes is the meezer the me the messer the mezzer yeah the measure and the mezzer frankly has a lot of really ugly themes but like seven really cool ones users can make and upload their own themes and it could be something super simple as just cleaning up the ui to their liking or adding a nice wallpaper for the background of their main menu to super intricate stuff that completely changes the look of the switch like they can change where the games show up where the wi-fi and time icons are and even switch up stuff like vertical and horizontal icons the cool thing about the site is that it has a code system that works with annex themes installer which means if you see a theme you like on your computer you can go to nx themes installer type in the code and it'll start downloading right away it's super easy and yes that does mean you can design your own themes on your switch to make it look exactly how you want with whatever backgrounds you want whatever fonts you want rearrange ui elements wherever you want and have it loaded up on your switch exactly how you like it makes your old switch look kind of boring in comparison huh using a port of lineage os you can also run straight up android on your switch and man is it weird uh this honestly could be a video all on its own because uh everything about this just felt so wrong it all works exactly as you expect and for the most part it's really responsive just a hitch here there when opening apps you can go on the play store watch stuff on youtube all the typical android stuff and even run games caught mobile unfortunately while it does recognize controllers it doesn't recognize switch controllers but the game still ran just fine mind the terrible players this game is all just bots anyways the hilarious thing is this thing actually docks and it docks really well the joy cons work as your input around the menus and the nvidia shield app gives you a keyboard on your phone so it makes using it a lot easier i thought this is already pretty ridiculous but how far can we go so i plugged in a wireless mouse and keyboard and what i mean why am i even surprised anymore i'm running android on a switch nothing makes sense anymore i'm thinking of what this could possibly be useful for but i i'm i'm drawing a blank leave me a comment maybe you guys are more creative than i am i loaded up xbox game pass and that laughing is just me being in shock because i didn't expect this to work nearly as well as it did albeit with a minor audio issue here maybe maybe if i was little friends or something he wanted to play xbox he didn't have an xbox like sure why not this could work just it plays really great it plays really nice um oh you can do picture picture i want to make a whole video on this i i really really want to make a whole video on this make sure you subscribe so you don't miss it when i post it three years from now okay you got some questions i got some answers so let's go over these real quick can you still play online with a modded switch of course here's me playing rocket league on my modded switch with zero issues the thing is the way that hikate and atmosphere work is that it makes two separate versions of your os all the hacky custom former stuff happens on your sd card and all your stock regular untouched switch os remains on the internal memory chip of your switch or the system end whenever you feel like switching back to playing online just switch back to your system os they are completely separate from each other and you can switch back and forth whenever you want using the hekate menu can you get banned with a modded switch yes it is possible but the key is to stay alert don't do anything dumb and most importantly keep your hacky stuff and your stock os stuff completely separate some of the most common reasons people get banned are trying to play pirated games online trying to use mods on games online installing their atmosphere directly to their internal memory it should always be installed on an sd card changing your icon to a custom profile picture and clearing error logs that's really been uploaded to nintendo basically just don't do anything stupid keep all your modded hacky stuff on atmosphere and you should be fine can you update your switch safely yeah there's an app called all of one updater that makes updating your switch os your atmosphere and your game super simple to update is there any way i can jailbreak my switch light or my v2 switch without a mod chip no moving on how come we didn't use any footage of the nintendo game what's going on i want to see you emulate wind waker people like modern vintage gamer and other youtubers who've made modest switch videos were copyright claimed by nintendo and had their videos taken down and the excuse that they used in order to take those down is that they were using copyrighted footage even if it's just gameplay i'm not taking that risk there's no way i i hope you can understand can i do all the stuff with a mac eh kind of stuff like the payload injector works but you'll be missing out on a lot of different tools that you need to get the most out of your modded switch it'll work but you really want a windows machine to do all this stuff wait so you're telling me i got to use a jig put it into rcm mode and plug it into a computer every single time i want to boot up my switch well technically no we only need the jig to force the switch into recovery mode but hekate has a feature called autorcm that every time you press the power button to turn it on it automatically goes into recovery mode without the need for a jig and we only need the computer to be able to push the hikate payload to the switch good news you can grab one of these it's an rcm loader that's pretty much just a really small four megabyte flash drive whose sole purpose is just to push a payload to the switch so once you're in rcm instead of plugging it to a computer you can just plug this in with your payload and it'll boot right up it's much more portable and convenient i'll leave a link to this in the description to where you can buy this guys i'm only like four subs away from hitting a hundred thousand subscribers so if you enjoyed the time and research i put into this video i would really appreciate if you subscribe to the channel i really hope you learned something from this and if you did consider leaving a like on the video and share it with someone who that might be curious about mining switches thank you so much for watching and if you want to see
