hi guys i'm smee hello and welcome back to the channel where today you join me in germany buzzing with excitement for a pretty good reason today i'm at mclaren stuttgart where my friend mukcollector has kindly invited me to take a first drive in his mclaren speedtail the three-seater hyper gt from the mclaren ultimate series family with over a thousand horsepower from its hybrid powertrain and that central seating position which links back to the legendary mclaren f1 and today i'm gonna drive this car before we head out i'm gonna take you through all of the details show you some things that i'm sure you didn't know before like the hidden tool kit tucked away in the front storage go over the aero profile where you have these covers on the front wheels the cameras here which when you're in velocity mode tuck in so you don't get the drag from them there's a snorkel integrated into the roof then at the rear with this long tail you also have these flats which are actually flexible carbon fiber today let's have a full tour around the outside and the inside of the mclaren speed tail before getting it started and taking it out for a drive words i can't believe i'm actually saying a huge thanks in advance to muk collector let's check out them the mclaren speedtail [Music] here it is then muck collectors speedtail looking amazing in the sunshine and some great company as well with the 765lt coupe and on the walls of the workshop here we've got et and senna and bruce mclaren watching over us where we take a look around before going out to see what this is like to drive and experiencing the seating position in the center the speed tail in many ways is the follow-up to a legend one of the most iconic cars of all time the mclaren f1 from the 90s with that three-seat configuration a car that was also actually back at the time introduced to be a grand tourer to be a luxury car before it was taken to the races and was victorious in 1995 at the 24 hours of le mans this though is built i would say with a different purpose to be an exceptionally fast comfortable car to drive with more than two passengers one of the fastest cars i think to offer three seats along with quite a lot of storage as well but you can see the aero profile is one of being very sleek very smooth through the air but it's also equipped with a lot of technology that i'm going to show you through as we go around it this car has a four liter twin turbocharged v8 along with the hybrid system making a total of 1070 horsepower along with 1 150 newton meters of torque which actually gets the speed tail to a top speed of 250 miles per hour 400 kilometers per hour it will get to 300 kilometers an hour 186 miles per hour in a mere 12.8 seconds less than 13 seconds thanks to all of that power going through the rear axle with the seven speed graziano dual clutch gearbox but just look at it where do we really begin there are some distinct features yes the aero parts on the wheels stand out as does all the glass over the canopy and i've been lucky to take a look around the speed tail before but let's just i guess take all of this in because the aero work is fascinating it's all very neatly integrated into the body the curtains here as part of the headlight arrangement and in fact this represents the speed mark shape that you see here in the mclaren logo that almost tick shape carry through into the headlights again more airflow around through the lower splitter through the different sections and also a lot going on underneath the car the reason for these covers on the wheels is again to do with the aero to keep airflow smooth around the side of the car of course to help it at high speed and that is why gone are traditional door mirrors being replaced by cameras which pop out when you unlock the car unlocking the car is a bit of an event in its own right i'm going to show you that in a moment but it is very very long just look at that tail this car is 5 meters and 10 centimeters long one of the crucial parts of that is by having this smooth and very low rear end is to help with stability and to help of course with high speed and just look back here under the diffuser how far under it goes you have the exhaust tailpipes one on each side just here inside the double diffuser but this is a work of art actually to behold even here behind the rear wheels this everything about it everywhere you look there are just details which grab your attention here for example the clean air that comes over the roof goes in for the cooling mid rear mounted v8 of course linked up to the electric motors but let me show you then what happens when you do actually open the car this is the key a different key to the other mclaren models spiel to be tail badging on the back you've got buttons to open the front and rear boots but here when you've unlocked the car you can see the mirrors pop on out which have screens on the inside if you press and hold both of the car's doors actually open in sync how epic is that motorized doors i mean that's the stuff of dreams if you want drama with an exciting car it does not get much better and then we're looking inside you've got five digital displays the center dashboard flanked by the two infotainment screens and then the mirror cameras that are displayed through those auxiliary screens as well but it's all about this the three-seat configuration that central direct driving seat even within the carbon fiber monocoque then the two seats flanking on either side a plaque with the car number situated behind and also some clever uses of storage as well under the dashboard under the side seats but that's that's really what it's about this car with the full leather in fact some really nice mso details as well in the overall specification but for me one of the biggest things is what these doors do and the buttons are actually situated just inside the fence here you've got the two buttons so you give that a press and the door closes itself back down it takes a moment you do need to wait for it but could you have something more spectacular to behold than that well let me come around and take a seat then here inside the speed tail and this is something to work out a little bit i think in its own right as to how exactly you best climb in i think it's basically a case of trying to climb all the way to the middle seat from the outside that was actually not too bad and wow wow wow look at that view this is breathtaking the low half height windows like in the center but also of course like in the f1 the electrochromic glass at the top which you can see is currently tinted but at the press of the button you can make that completely transparent also the top part of the front window you've got the switches up on the roof itself actually the start button just turn on the ignition for a moment and the displays wake up look at this in front of us this is truly special the button here to do the door give that a pull and the door closes down no need to grab it or anything like that and then of course the camera that's actually quite fun to see the camera showing us the showroom and the 765 lt that's behind i guess i should probably start it up let me press the magic button put on the brake let's do this oh wow the relays obviously it starts off the hybrid system off the electric battery for the for the electric powertrain as opposed to using the conventional mechanism but this is a gt that's what you have to remember everything is very nice the extended analyze leather the touches the details the feel and everything you're looking at the carbon door cards i'll try out these side seats a little bit later on to see exactly what they're actually like to sit in look at the way it goes back through the teardrop cabin towards the walls behind us this this is an absolute dream i'm sitting inside a speak tale and i'm about to take it for a drive seated right in the middle i already cannot thank collector enough and we haven't gone anywhere let's do this let's experience the mclaren speedtail there's something about this which feels totally surreal you of course drive it like other mclarens into gear you've got the rocker shifters for the gearbox and now we go with this bizarre seating position obviously i'm going to take it very slow very steady and very carefully to begin with you've got an electric motor to adjust the steering column we still have the lift system operated through the stalk on the right this system is going up the hydraulic suspension system that the car has i am just taking this incredibly carefully and now positioning myself in the lane sitting in the middle every single instinct says to be to the side and not right in the center and also conscious of quite how long it is but i tell you the instant sensation driving in here is that it is very very calm very comfortable we're in comfort mode you have comfort sport and velocity but it is clearly a car that is about being a gentle cruiser i'm i'm just just taking this carefully for a moment to get a feel to get my bearings what you have to remember is this isn't a track car like the senna this isn't that purpose and it's not really the pioneer like the mclaren p1 was that will have a successor in its own right that comes further down the line sitting in here the left screen is for the climate control air vents nicely on both sides if you like symmetry this is perfect on the right side you've got your media and your phone small problem is that i can't exactly see the traffic lights it's an awkward position from that perspective there's not the hugest amount of headroom i have to say and i'm also taking a moment to get used to looking for the display screens for the mirrors instead of looking actually outside for something that's sitting on the front wings but driving like this it's it's very civilized it's very unintimidating other than the central position i think when you're used to that it feels like a normal gentle drive i will press the active dynamics button which means i'm now driving in manual we're in sport mode as well by default when we go into that setting there we go you can hear a little bit more sound out of it because the car has uh exhaust valves mclarens typically didn't really have valves the center does which opens and closes basically just as you pull away so small movements but in here a little bit more sound action going on this is a totally ridiculous thing to be sitting inside this is [Music] i mean i don't know visually it has the crazy drama of many hyper cars you know if we were in a bugatti chiron right now or a koenigsegg regiera which i suppose are the competitor cars at this price point this segment of the market they might feel a little bit more dramatic than this does or look a little bit more dramatic central seating position is a game changer and i'm driving it on some normal roads at the moment just basically taking it easy kind of what this car was really intended to do obviously if we press manual here you can be in the sportier setting with the suspension and the powertrain but still in automatic now on the gearbox i'm just looking around trying to get my head around this i could be sitting with a passenger on my right and a passenger on my left while i'm sitting in the middle of a speed tail i've been lucky to drive a lot of different cars in the last couple of years and often you can jump into the car and have a pretty good idea a familiar idea of what it's about and how it works but this really requires you to think a little bit to concentrate on where you're actually sitting because i'm used to jumping from left-hand drive to right-hand drive and back again on the continent in the u.s and the uk wherever it is with left and rights in both countries both types of region but this is this is different i think i feel already like i'm getting accustomed to it like it's quickly becoming normal but it's certainly just taking taking a moment to get my head around it just on a gentle drive i'm heading towards a slightly faster section and also towards some twistier roads as well this is this is just this is just incredible what a thing to drive it's just this instinct to always look for mirrors there aren't any mirrors there are cameras this is going to be normal and then when you go into velocity mode beyond sport that's when you then have the mirrors tucking in and i suppose that's not road legal because you're completely blind to what's behind you which is not an ideal setup at all if you want to know what's about just let's go manually shifting just remote i quite like the shift feel it's different to that in many of the other mclarens similar feel of the power though obviously the electric system gives you the instant torque which means when you put your foot down it is just go go go um in normal driving and actually in comfort you're all only actually at 800 horsepower rather than the full 1070 because it doesn't use the electric system at all basically or just a smaller amount you get about 310 horsepower from the motors and the rest 760 horsepower coming from the four liter twin turbo v8 combustion engine i need to buy a hybrid at some point i need a hybrid in the garage but this just felt for the truck there's a great feeling in here actually with how much glass you have around you have a great sense of being in a glass house you know being able to see all around you not feeling claustrophobic in the slightest i wonder what it's like sitting in the seats over my shoulders but like this this is just this is amazing this is genuinely like like really really comfortable to drive and if we go back into comfort on the handling and the powertrain even in active dynamics it's very soft i think that's what surprised me actually for example when you drive in the koenigsegg regiera by koenigsegg standards the regera is very soft but it's nothing like this soft this is this is silky smooth this is rolls-royce-esque smooth which is quite a surprise and it's it's not that loud yes okay there's a bit of road noise from the tires which obviously have to be capable of going to such extreme speeds heading out of town we're now on a de-restricted autobahn of course this is a fairly new car so we need to be a bit careful with it but let's go into sport on the handling sport on the powertrain into manual and just drop down some of the gears hear a bit more of the sound oh listen to that the intake that you can hear the air coming over the top into the snorkel right behind your head and this is a walk in the park at 200 kilometers per hour it's barely barely barely being pushed at all unfortunately i can't see the flaps on the back and what they're up to but this is quite an experience of the liftoff as well in fact let me drop down a gear or two that noise the blow-off sound that's cool but it's not crazy you know it's not screaming this is half the speed that this car can go half of it fifty percent obviously you get the instant torque if you do put your foot flat to the floor this is such an unusual experience i've got very familiar already with being sat right in the center that feels almost completely natural now wow to be able to actually take this car out for a drive this is this is quite something and i can't again say thank you enough to mug collector this is totally surreal when the road opens up in front of me i've got to resist the temptation to go completely full throttle this is ludicrous and i'm pretty gentle on the throttle pedal here yeah i can believe that this gets to a very very very very very very high top speed with unbelievable ease i mean 250 kilometers an hour is 155 miles per hour and that was low in the revs just wow right let's head on to some twisty roads then i i've got one of those smiles that's making my cheeks ache a little bit from the the joy of driving this car through a corner i mean like all mclarens it still turns in so well that front end and sitting in the middle i'm not sure what words there are to describe this wow what a car but again i can't quite see the traffic lights small problems you can actually change the electrochromic glass in here you can go into ambience and you can go to roof transparent and then all of a sudden you can see out of the front window and out of the roof panels a little bit more which does actually significantly help so you have less of this this letter box in front of you the conscience of how long and how far behind me the back of the car is as well over some bumps and sport it is yes a little bit bumpy the significant problem that i for one would have if i owned a mclaren speedtail is that i would genuinely use it as a daily driver it is so easy to drive and use i don't think there is another car of this level which is this livable and i say that because the speed tail versus let's say the chiron they are in a very very similar segment in terms of overall style and usability for a hyper car with immense performance but in here you've got much more space there's a big luggage storage area at the back and one at the front and you have seats on either side so even if you have one passenger you've got enough room for things on the other side of you as well so it's a car that i think you could be quite surprised to just drive it's very very peculiar not having a rear view mirror obviously that wouldn't work right in front of you you'd be looking literally straight at yourself but with the bulkhead behind there isn't such a thing you're relying on the cameras on either side which is totally fine by legislation it does however mean it's a little bit strange takes some getting used to but just driving around here the beautiful countryside lanes near to the black forest i love the steering feel the steering in here is like all mclarens you have the steering wheel it's not cluttered there are no controls those are all in easy reach of your hands on either side depending what it is you're after and it just feels like this is about the drive and the new style shift paddles that go with it as well this is very me in a car i like long distance driving i like cars of this gt nature and i love my super gts things like the amg gtrs and the ferrari 812 and gtc4 lusso but this is hyper gt this is [Music] a different segment it's it's the same ultimate purpose but without a budget attached we could say you know you have to consider this is eight or nine times the price of a ferrari 812 superfast for example new price more than 10 times the used price of one i think with a car like this you couldn't just go out and really do 10 000 miles a year and that's what i would want to do with here you'd have to be a little bit more restrained i'm actually just going to take a moment to pull in and have a little breather and just admire this thing for a moment because the seating position in the middle it's it's just it's just something totally bizarre and obviously come to a stop handbrake is just on this side and like you know your normal car it's that easy steering wheel automatically retracts you've got the button on the roof to open the door again and just like that manually slide the seat back to make getting out ever so slightly easier total dream just look at this car it is totally unique and unlike anything else and what a perfect day to be out driving it some incredible roads great weather thankfully it is not raining and just an unreal experience to get behind the wheel of the speed tail but imagine seeing one of these out on the roads a totally different look to any other car quite literally with this rear end the speed tail a very apt name of course considering the design and this is a trend that manufacturers are taking in the hunt in the chase for absolute top speed which of course means reducing the aerodynamic drag at higher speeds often done by keeping a very low rear end keeping very smooth body work and you can see why the likes of this and the yes go absolute and more cars are taking this general shape but let's look at it in a little bit more detail and back here you'll spot things for example like the horizontal tail light that sits right underneath these active flaps literally flexible carbon fiber with motors that push them up that bend them up to help keep the back end planted when it's required of course it's all carbon fiber both the visual sections and the painted sections carbon monocoque carbon body panels all the lightweight materials needed to keep the weight down wherever possible then you look under the diffuser and the way it stretches all the way under to the rear axle where you have that additional diffuser you can see some of the suspension components of course we have the exhaust tailpipes integrated under here the milled openings for the cooling you can see the heat shields inside and again carbon carbon and a lot more carbon now to touch on the spec of this specific car muck collector's car it's painted in saragon quartz a color from mso you'll notice it has the bright orange peripheral package the bright mclaren orange accents painted around the diffuser around the side skirts the front splitter and also the orange brake calipers as well but it also has the contour paint work you will notice here for example it looks a touch darker almost like shadows but this is actually painted blended paintwork to emphasize the shapes and the curves and you can see it especially here for the side panel really cool details when you start looking at it closely as well and even check this out as well you can see the exposed carbon here on the engine cover and that is blended through to the gloss black which goes over the top to match more with the glass panels but amazing detail even the holes put a machine there into the carbon fiber piece with the central third brake light running all the way up the top like that now i talked a bit about the luggage space let me show you the two boots that you have one is here at the rear press and hold that side on the button this is carbon fiber and you will see there is quite a decent amount of space you can have the fitted luggage which of course means that in here you could fit a decent amount of things you've got the leather and carbon fiber to finish off the storage area actually i'm quite impressed by this and that's just the back the exposed carbon fiber that you also have on the underside of the lid which is a very very light piece click that down then around towards the front of the car you also have here the second boot press the left side of the button this opens up you can see again the contour package with those blended sections towards the intakes and then inside here a beautifully presented front storage area the main bin lined with leather around the outside more carbon fiber even on the under surface of the bonnet again but let me show you inside these two secret compartments now the first of these is a little bit tricky to open because it's held with magnets so i'm just going to use a card very quickly pop this open and you can see inside here again in a carbon fiber compartment we've got the fire extinguisher we've got the first aid and small tool kit as well but the main thing to show you here is what looks beneath this cover which is really really exquisite have a look at this the tool kit with the car with numbered individual tools they're made from 3d printed titanium the gold is purely the color they're not made from gold that would be a soft material not ideal for a tool kit but links back to the f1 but this is effectively what you need to remove the wheel covers this for example to take out the center caps that's to take off the wheel covers on the front axle to take off the wheels themselves all beautifully presented and integrated into the front of the car which i just think is the most amazing detail underneath that magnetic carbon fiber cover that is really very very nice it has to be said and again around the front the peripheral package with the pinstripe it's just such an awesome thing to actually behold and then if we come back through to show you a few more things inside so press the button just here open it up there we go look at this look out you can see the airflow through the doors themselves more carbon fiber carbon everywhere satin carbon inside to reduce reflections but inside a carbon fiber complete tub back here a few storage things to show you side pouches you give that a pull and open those up decent amount of storage under here in fact quite a lot i'm sure you could get a pair of shoes or something in there it goes quite a fair way back comes back again magnetic to hold that down there's also a storage compartment here you can see to hold cards and that extends inside as well and exactly the same also over on the other side although the glove box on the other side is slightly smaller but you can see all of the storage space that you have available the plaque i mentioned behind the headrest check that out number 62 of 106 mclaren speedtails but all attention and focus on the driving seat and the bright orange in the center which i think just emphasizes what it's all about and look at even the graphics that point towards the middle very much about the driver sitting in the middle you've got ambient led lighting as well you can change all of the lighting effects even look at this contoured dashboard working similarly to the exterior design anyway i better climb back in and continue the drive this is just something so special even just sitting back in here is bizarre in automatic default settings it's back into comfort active dynamics panel disabled just i mean this is some pretty rough ground but even here aside from the noises that you hear through the carbon tab of the leaves and the small sticks on the ground the ride is amazing honestly this is this is really rough and bumpy i'm just i'm just completely blown away by what this car can do how effortless it is to drive how easy it is to drive the steering especially in comfort mode is lightweight obviously hydraulic setup and so pinpoint sharp but no stress now this is an interesting one pulling out oh wow the visibility that's amazing how much i can see over my shoulder no horrible blind spots at all and then back on the road it just glides along it just eases it just cruises ah what i mean the one thing i will say is i do feel really high i'm conscious of the control panel for active dynamics and the start button being right most in front of my face i'd love to be a touch lower but to fit three seats into this one cabin in this style obviously there's no easy feat that's taken a whole lot of development work in engineering and i believe this project was basically born out of customer demand years and years ago with the rebirth of mclaren automotive customers basically saying can we have a new f1 can this be done and it started as three customers became maybe five became 10 and ultimately became a full in-house mclaren automotive project making the full run of 106. delivery started earlier this year but obviously things went a little bit pear-shaped and i think every single car has paid protection from topaz as well this car certainly does which is really very cool to have that and i mean i i don't think this there's no purer drive than being sat in the middle of course it's an interesting i guess almost head to head in the world where the golden murray t-50 has arrived too a different approach to the three-seater configuration god murray responsible for designing the original f1 and that car having the naturally aspirated v12 with a manual totally different to the hybrid twin turbo v8 with the dual clutch that you have in here totally different driving experiences but being seated in the center i mean outside of a bac mono i've never driven a car with a seating position in the center before i don't believe and i'm i'm blown away by it i feel like all cars really should do this it just feels so normal it just feels right and you can get out of each side there's enough room in the footwell you can swing your feet in both directions yeah yeah i like it a lot i'm surprised by it i had heard things that maybe it was boring or maybe it wasn't that exciting and driving it myself yes it's not thrilling it's not like a laferrari or a p1 it's it's a hyper gt and it does things with ease and like i said you could use it all the time that's that's what's so special about it the torque feeling the torque feeling is just instantly through you that feeling of the head and the body being pushed back wow wow wow prior to this drive i've spent a lot of time in mclaren's between my cars and the factory cars that i've driven i would say i've probably done in excess of 50 000 miles 80 000 kilometers at the wheel of maclaren's from the p1 of the center down to the 570s 540c and of course the original 12c so i've got quite a sense of what they're like but this is just totally different this is its own car yes it shares the engine the four-liter twin turbo v8 with the 720s and with the cena but it's different it has a different character supported by the hybrid system the electrics just gives it a totally different feel that torque feel that you get the instant response as a result it's a different car it's not the copy paste formula which i think happens a bit too often these days with many manufacturers sticking just a small change you know same engine different chassis different type whatever it might be whereas this is this is something different this is something unique this is something truly special and what a drive it is just going past cars looking in the cameras the mirrors i don't know what to call them this is such a cool formula there are things that aren't the best i think maybe i'd like the steering wheel to go higher i feel like the seat might be a touch leaning back just further than i would like but obviously that's the result of having to fit the three seats into one tub to have them fitting just either side of you anyway i think it's a bit of a cruise now back towards base because there is more i'd like to show you about the interior just just mind blown i've returned back to mclaren stuttgart and i'm sat here at the moment just reflecting a bit on that drive and i hope i've been able to portray what it's like but genuinely this has blown me away in terms of the whole package and what the car actually is i always questioned it a little bit before because i'm more of the track focused inclination more of the center nature you could say but this is this is unlike anything else let me show you though a little bit more around it because sat inside here is very very special i'm just going to take off my seat belt for a moment and slide this seat just to touch back so we can see a little bit more the lever is just underneath and there is actually a pouch just here at the front of the seat where you can put the key for the car just tucks in there and as you can see it is a little low on fuel so we might need to go and sort that out quickly but a few things have changed from earlier mclarens you still have the same toggles here with the graphic which represents the view that you see the bird's eye view of the mclaren technology center with the pond that it has just in front and always when you press in it takes you to home quite literally so it takes you back to the main screen in fact let's start with this secondary screen where you have the ambience where you can do the electrochromic glass just to show you that taking effect as everything goes quite blue tinted even the glass that you have behind and you can see how good that visibility is in where your typical blind spot would be you can actually see incredibly well on both sides so you can have that opaque or transparent you've got the reading lights either all on or off and ambient lighting where you can control the lighting in the footwell in a variety of different colors and things and also over on this side if you pull out this he says like that oh didn't quite do it right there we go pulls out the climate control settings so you can pop it on auto uh quick hot quick cool your usual settings you'd probably expect to see now there is no dual zone climate control that might be obvious because it's kind of central zone really that you have in this car coming across we've got the central dashboard not too much you can change here the rev counter that runs all the way across the very top over towards the right you can see the electrical charge we barely i think we ever took that below 100 to be honest obviously charging the system off the combustion engine or through the induction pad that you can put underneath the car tire pressures and temperatures your gear selector and this changes a little bit depending what mode you're in so you can see here we've got the power train in sport and handling in sports but up here is where you have the blue button for velocity so if you press i think you just press that once you have to hold the velocity button learning as i go here we go into velocity mode and you press again to accept and confirm and this primes the car basically as you can see and there it says the battery station charge 78 prime's the car for velocity mode right height lowering battery regeneration this is quite cool to see the displays so i think it's basically dropping down the uh suspension and setting everything up for maximum attack now while that's running which takes a while i'll just talk a little bit more about what we've got on the steering wheel leather wheel with the carbon inserts the rocker system where you can push on either side as you can see they move together they're connected which means you can technically go up and down through a host of different ways you've got your wipers light stalk down here you've got the menu so this would obviously hide our fuel low level awning that we're being shown at the moment then on the right side is where you have your cruise control and also your lift system you just do one single press on the end to raise and lower the lift system which is much more helpful than in earlier cars where you had to go through a whole host of different menus absolute nightmare and then obviously sorry i should have said the white business on the side lights on the left wipers on the right similarly on this side well here we go we're now in velocity mode everything is blue and you have your speed very prominently displayed and letting us know as well that it's in esc off we go up and down through this menu he says you get rid of there we go back to the main menu where we've got our trip information and you can see the one message which is the fuel warning and the other bits and pieces in there now i guess to take it out of velocity mode we probably press this again or maybe we press active i know yes you hold the velocity button to take it out and it will go through its sequence to return things back to normal i suppose we also as i said we have the second glove box on this side but this one doesn't really insert quite as far you've got a few controls here for the front boot the rear boots your lights different position auto lights your electric handbrake i also want to talk as well about this because as well as being a footrest this is also the speaker grille so you have the speakers down there in either footwell but it's also the footrest for your passengers to uh to be standing on along with the uh maps specific maps that they have that integrate into these pockets as well just looking around everything in here it's such a special place honestly there's just nothing there's nothing like this obviously we have the barrels of wilkins sound system and then up top where we have the other controls we have our window controls it says yep up and down just that lower section the door buttons your active dynamics your usual reverse neutral and drive engine stop start and the velocity mode button and the same for the left side you've also got a grab handle here by the way so to help getting in and out you can use the grab handles on either side integrated from the monocoque just to make life a touch easier now that we're back in the normal ride height on this side you can see where the white lines indicate which opens up you've got the brightness and screen settings and then you can pull that across and you've got your modes for the audio studio three seats or on stage we've got the tones as well close that for the moment then here obviously this is where you have your bluetooth or whatever it might be you can go back home go into your phone whatever it might be again finds my phone very efficient on it we've got some more settings where you can find all of your usual things that you might want to spend hours playing with setting up and going through or otherwise go back to the main screen so i suppose i should shut it off there are leds all around that just illuminate the cabin and give you a premium feel everywhere you look and then we can technically go out either side i've always been going out to the right but maybe i'll try going out of the uh the left door for one time it does take a moment just for the doors to open you are left just waiting for them to actually open up and then i need to work out the best way oh not quite to climb out i need to sit in the back seat here which i've just naturally slid into and i will say it's not the best for your arm which is squished with nowhere really to go so your passengers might not be the happiest about a very long drive except for the fact that they're sitting in a mclaren speedtell which is of course something moderately incredible the view from here also is very very very special but there's not as much room as you might want headroom wise i guess is okay don't feel too claustrophobic but it's not like being the passenger in a normal two-seater car there's nothing like that amount of space clearly some uh spaces has had to be sacrificed to make all of this possible but still just just being here being in this position very very very cool now there's something i want to show you on the outside let me step back out of here look at that i love the color scheme as well it really works press the button in here and the door closes back down he says maybe i pressed the wrong button there we go i did indeed press the wrong button i pressed the button to open the door which is never going to work again you can see the arrow and see some of the openings now if you're wondering what happens if you get locked out of the car and you can't get back into it just lock it for the moment normally with the key you can see the camera's tucking back in you would take off the back and have the manual key with this key you will notice there is an allen key required to open it up in order to actually access the secondary key you might be wondering where is that and how do you do it well this is a bit of a trick which i bet you didn't know about the speed tail inside here impossible to see there is actually a little container which has in it he says if i can get this very carefully to not drop it through the grating just underneath the allen key to open up the back of the key is stored and tucked away here in the back of the speed tail that is one of those things that if you don't know you're never going to guess and find out and now i need to work out how to put it back in properly and there is also back here a uh additional piece he says just trying to open it and take it out for the moment which is to use the spare key for access it's a grip basically which all maclaren's before have come with but in here it tucks away into a special storage area just in there back in in place again i bet you would never have found that by sheer coincidence this car though i mean i i could go on for hours and hours and hours talking all about it all about details and everything that's gone into it but i think there has to come a point where we need to take a break all in all though just a drive to remember a drive i will never forget i cannot thank my collector enough for this experience the car will now go back into the workshop where the induction pad by the way sits under the bonnet you basically drive over it it's on the floor hooked up sits under the car and then charges back up the hybrid system all in all i guess you've seen my first impressions i feel very very lucky to have been able to drive a mclaren speed tail and actually experience it in different environments really really spectacular i i guess i should probably point out that like many mclarens i think early speed tales have been plagued with some quality things in terms of the final finish but also the hybrid system and them running properly that's i guess part of the course with these kind of exclusive hand built very limited run vehicles but definitely a side of it but the drive today with this flawless incredible just overwhelming experience easy effortless but so fantastic and so so fast as well for today though thank you again to muk collector please do go and follow him if you'd like to see more with this car and some of the other incredible cars in his collection i've been lucky to drive a few in the past and maybe some more in the future as well yeah yeah incredible awesome the fans have just turned off as well cool back down ready to be parked up there we go thank you very much for watching guys i hope you've enjoyed probably the most in-depth look at the mclaren speedtail to date what a drive that's it for now though i'll see you again very soon cheers you
