this is a McLaren f1 and it is quite simply the greatest car ever made it was built throughout the mid 1990s it was the fastest car in the world and it basically has no equal it's also rather valuable as one of these sold back in 2017 for around 16 million dollars and this one is probably a little more valuable than most because it belongs to Jay Leno yes that's right I've borrowed Jay Leno's McLaren f1 and today I'm going to review it to start I should mention that you can check out Jay Leno's Garage on YouTube which is a fantastic show where Jay checks out a lot of cool cars that I could never get my hands on and sometimes he shows off cool stuff with his own cars as well you can also check out Jay Leno's Garage on CNBC which is also a fantastic show where Jay does cool stuff with all sorts of cars because Jay Leno lives the car enthusiasts dream and this car might just be the best example of that the McLaren f1 is generally considered to be one of the all-time greatest cars many car enthusiasts consider it to be the single greatest car ever made the f1 was designed in the early 1990s with the goal of being the ultimate Road car and McLaren made only a hundred and six units including just 64 regular McLaren f1 road car examples like this one that's right there are just 64 of these on the entire planet and yes these are worth millions of dollars probably around 20 million for this example which is an insane number but then again this car has an impressive legacy it was the fastest production car in the world for more than a decade which is a big deal because the fastest production car title was constantly in contention throughout the 1980s five different cars held the title at one point or another and then this came out in 1993 it went more than 240 miles an hour and nothing beat it for a decade then there's this cars racing success in 1995 the McLaren f1 GTR which is basically a race car version of this car was entered into the 24 Hours of LeMans and important endurance race in the entire car world it won outright beating out purpose-built race cars even though it was essentially just a racing version of a road car that came would turn signals in a license plate is incredible and of course there's a lot more to it than that this car has a 620 horsepower BMW v12 it has three seats it has gold in the engine compartment it has a modem and today I'm going to show you all of it first I'm gonna take you on a tour of this car and I'm going to show you all of the quirks and features of maybe the greatest car ever made then I'm gonna get it out on the road and then I'm going to give it a dug score and for more of my thoughts on the f1 click the link below to visit autotrader.com slash oversteer where I've also written a column about what it's like to spend the day with Jay Leno's McLaren f1 all right I'm going to start the Kreutz and features of the McLaren f1 up here in this front compartment specifically I'm going to start with opening this front compartment it's fairly similar to any other car you pull a little lever in the footwell and then it pops open a little bit and then you come around front and you can pull it up the rest of the way and then it's open and as you can see this is not a storage compartment there are storage compartments in this car but we'll get to those in a second instead this one has a couple of interesting items one is the CD changer this is a Kenwood 10 disc CD changer that was made specifically for the McLaren f1 and the reason it was specially made for the f1 is that the engineer this car Gordon Murray he didn't find regular CD changers to be light enough for this car so this is a specially lightened CD changer just for the f1 so how exactly do you get a specially lightened CD changer well this one has aluminum magnets inside of it how do you make aluminum magnetic you take aluminum and then you spray it with like an iron filing and Jay told me that that's saved like six ounces but anywhere you can save weight counts on a car like this another item you have up here is the tool kit which fits into this nice little pocket in the front compartment as if you're gonna be wrenching on your McLaren f1 on the side of the road but again lightness was a theme here they wanted everything to be as light as possible and that includes the tools in the tool kit obviously I can't show you this on camera but they're incredibly light they're titanium and they're like the latest tools I've ever felt again just to save a few ounces over regular tools other noteworthy items in this front compartment you can see there are four different caps where you can stick in various fluids the two in the back the red ones are for brake fluid and then you have the gold one that is clutch fluid and the blue one in front of that that's windshield washer fluid or as they call it screen wash I also like the fact there are a few McLaren f1 warning labels under here my favorite being the one that says this area to be kept clean and dry not don't get this area wet this area to be kept clean and dry so wonderfully brutish now next I want to talk about getting in the McLaren f1 which is actually a fairly simple process with the door unlocked you just press this silver button on the outside that has a keyhole on you push it and then the door pops itself right open and has these cool butterfly doors that are hinged along the a pillar along the windshield which the designers of this car say they were inspired by the Toyota Cera which is a little Japanese compact car that came out about five years before the McLaren f1 and had similar doors so the inspiration for the door design for the crazy insane world's greatest' McLaren f1 came from a little Toyota now obviously I'm gonna climb inside and show you all of the quirks and features of the interior but first I wanted to cover the door jamb you have two latches in the door jamb one marked E and one marked L now you pull the one marked L and it opens up this side storage compartment now you saw up front that front trunk isn't really a trunk it's full of stuff so you can't store anything in there but McLaren didn't want that they wanted this car to be usable and so they integrated a storage compartment into the side of the car actually a surprisingly large one if you're wondering why the latch is marked L that's because it's the luggage compartment L for luggage pretty simple amazingly there is a second compartment over on the other side that also opens like this and that one is a bit more interesting I'll get to it in a few minutes it's also worth noting that this compartment hides two interesting items this carbon fiber panel covers the battery but it also contains this plaque in detailing many of MacLaren's racing victories which is an odd place for it also you see that red button that activates the modem yes this car came with a modem cutting-edge technology back in the 1990's the f1 was so rare that you couldn't exactly have dealerships and technicians all over the world so the motive was intended to make it easy to hook up a computer to diagnose issues remotely from the factory if something went wrong of course the modem is now ancient technology and it only works with a very specific compact computer that went out of production decades ago but McLaren still uses those computers to solve problems that crop up on these cars now the other latch on the side here marked E that one's a little more obvious that opens the engine cover you pull that and it unlatches and I'll get to that in a minute now next up we climb into the McLaren f1 and obviously the first thing you notice is this car has three seats yeah that's right the driver sits right in the middle of the car the theory being this is better for visibility for performance you're directly in the center I mean this is how all cars theoretically should be set up it's just not very practical in most cars but it worked out in this one so the drivers in the middle and then the driver is flanked on either side by two rear side seats and so if you're carrying around a passenger in the McLaren f1 they can decide which seat they want to sit in you want to sit on the left side of the driver or the right side that's a choice you don't have in too many cars but you have it in the McLaren f1 now obviously this improves practicality since you can carry one more person than basically any other supercar that has ever existed and when you combine it with those little storage compartments on the side this is actually a relatively practical car Jay also told me that sitting in the middle seat here you have pretty good visibility because you're so far forward in the car that you're basically in front of the eight pillars so they can't hide like pedestrians in crosswalks and you can't see them and also sitting in this position basically means you're so far up it gives you the opportunity to sort of like dart around you're one of the farthest forward things in this car as opposed to a lot of vehicles where there's a big long hood in front of you that you have to contend with it's an interesting idea it hasn't been repeated since but the McLaren f1 is famous for it now speaking of the seats there's a lot to say about the seats in this car starting with the fact that they don't move when you buy a McLaren f1 even though this car is 20 plus years old the factory still measures you and then they go through and fit the seat perfectly to your size and your specifications so the seat is in place obviously if the seat was on Rails or if it was a power seat that would add weight so a fixed permanent seat was thought to be the best way to keep weight down and it's the same thing with the steering wheel the steering wheel also doesn't move but once again the fact we will perfectly tailor the placement of the steering wheel to your preferred driving position when you buy a McLaren f1 and it's the same deal with the pedals they can move them forward or backwards a little bit based on precisely where you want to sit so when you buy an eclair an f1 all this stuff isn't very configurable to you but you can have it configured to your exact specifications in size for the optimal driving position now another interesting thing with the seats in this car is the seat belts the passenger seats on either side have fairly traditional regular seatbelts on the left side what would be normally the driver side the seatbelt comes out from the left side of the car over on the passenger side the right side it comes out from the right side of the car fairly standard fairly simple in the middle it's a little bit different there are essentially two belts one on the right side of you and one on the left side and you put them together and then your belted in but it's worth noting this car doesn't have like a racing harness or a 6-point belt it is just a standard regular car seat belt it's just a little bit different than normal because of the center seat setup and the fact that there's no pillar directly behind the seat where you can mount the belt now once you're seated in this car the next thing you're wondering is okay well how do you close the door it's all the way over there how do you do it as it turns out the door pulls in this car are on the roof of the door the door curves a little bit over the roof over the passenger seats and you grab one of those door poles and that is how you pull the door closed it's actually pretty easy even if you're sitting in the center seat it takes a little bit of a reach but you can get there of course your next question is how do you open the door how do you get out because if you look at the door panel there isn't a door handle on the door panel so how do you get out of this thing well it turns out Maclaren integrated the interior door latch into the base of the passenger seat so you pull up on this metal latch and that's what releases the doors it's kind of hidden down there I never expected the door latch to be in the seats but it is in this car actually it makes sense you pull it the door opens and you climb out one other item integrated into the base of those seats you can see next to the door latch there is a little storage pocket again making this car just a little bit more practical than you would expect from a standard supercar now because the seat is in the middle that gave McLaren the opportunity to kind of flank the driver with controls to put some controls on either side rather than having one big Center control stack that's just full of buttons and they took that opportunity there's still legroom for the passengers on either side but there are also these little carbon-fiber tunnels that flank the driver's seat on either side with controls and we'll start over on the left and that's where you have the parking brake you can see it's just a fairly standard parking brake you pull it up to engage you put it down to disengage now next to the parking brake over here you also have the stereo controls which are fairly standard stereo controls you have the one top is power and volume you also have bass and treble which are little dials that you can turn seems pretty normal except there's one rather genius control in this car and that would be you can see below the volume dial there's a dial for plus and minus so what is that for well it changes either the disc or the track depending on your preference you see the button below it toggles either the disc or the track if you have it up you have the disc on and then when you twist a little plus/minus dial it changes what disc you're listening to if you had it pushed in then you're changing the track and then when you adjust a little plus or minus dial it changes the track you're listening to it's actually kind of a brilliant idea and it saves them from having to put in separate dials to change the disc and to change the track now over there in this little switch compartment you also have just the power window switch the regular old power window switch push it up or down the window rolls up or down pretty simple now next up we move on to a couple of interesting things that happen when you put the seat in the middle and I'm gonna start with the rear view mirrors now this car has a giant air intake over the roof that brings air into the engine and so the back window is actually separated into two pieces there's one on the left and there's one over on the right so you have to separate back windows in this car to look out and in the middle where that air intake goes into the engine you don't have a back window at all now this would normally cause a problem but McLaren has gone for the genius solution it has two rear view mirrors one for the back window on the left and one for the back window on the right and so you can always look behind you but instead of in a normal car where you're looking at one rearview mirror in this car you're looking at two you also have two dome lights you can see there's a dome light over on the left and then dome light over on the right double the dome lights and the McLaren f1 who knew now with that said even though you have two rear windows and two dome lights and two mirrors there's one thing you can subtract by putting the seat in the middle and that would be the sign visors you only need one and so this car has only one Sun Visor mounted in the middle flanked on both sides by rear view mirrors only one car set up like that now next up we move on to the gauge cluster which has three buttons on either side of the cluster over on the left you have a button for the defogger you have a button for the fog light and then you have a dial that you can turn in that puts the car in high downforce mode I try not to get too technical in these videos but I'm told that that turns on some fans underneath the car which improve downforce and it looks like it may have some effect on the rear wing which moves just a little bit now over on the right of the gauge cluster you have three more buttons one is the headlights simply turn em turn on the headlights and you have the hazard lights and then you have the windshield wiper dial that you can turn to adjust the speed when you have the wipers on intermittent now speaking of the windshield wipers this car has a standard windshield wiper stock and a turn signal stock coming out of the steering column and I say standard because they're actually pulled from BMWs of this era this is the same turn signal and wiper stock you would find in a lot of BMW models back then which is crazy to me but BMW provided the engine and these things aren't cheap to make so mclaren must have asked BMW for help with the wiper and turn signal stocks as well next we move on to the steering wheel which is fairly small you can see the center says f1 v12 and the steering wheel has some unusual controls to the right of the center you can see the horn icon but you don't push it to sound the horn instead you reach behind the steering wheel and pull a little paddle and that's how you honk the horn in a McLaren f1 and just in case you want to know what it sounds like meanwhile over on the left side a wheel same story you can use the turn signal start to flash the high beams but if you want to turn them on for more than just a flash there's a paddle to the left side of the wheel where you can do that press the paddle and the high beams go on a different use of steering wheel paddles than what we're used to now as for the gauges themselves they're actually fairly standard over on the left you have fuel oil temperature water temperature in the middle you have the tachometer which goes all the way to 8 and says f1 and over on the right you have the speedometer which goes all the way up to 260 miles an hour you don't see a lot of to 60 mile an hour speed O's especially in vehicles that could theoretically actually get pretty close to that number now below the gauges you have two screens on the left and on the right they show information like your odometer your trip meter that sort of thing now all around the gauges obviously you have a dashboard which looks like a fairly standard dashboard except the steering wheel is in the middle and on the underside of the dashboard you have air conditioning vents you have two on the left and you have two more on the right so you have four air conditioning vents in this car which kind of flanked the driver which is a cool idea because if you're sitting here you can have all four AC vents blowing on you at once or you can give each passenger one and still have two blowing on you since you're sitting right in the middle one other benefit of the center seat now next up you're probably wondering how you turn this thing on so we'll get to that there's a little plaque over here on the right that says f1 McLaren and it shows the serial number of your exact McLaren f1 it also has the key slot you stick the key in there and then you twist it and then you're not done you have to flip up this little cover and there is a little red button you press that button and that fires up the engine gives it sort of a fighter plane kind of feel every time you turn on your McLaren f1 now ahead of that little plaque that says McLaren f1 with your serial number there is a separate plaque that says world's fastest production car and it explains where it set the production car record and precisely how fast it went two hundred and forty point one four miles per hour and that plaque is on every McLaren f1 just reminding you as you drive down the road that you're driving the fastest car in the world as if sitting in the centre seat wasn't a reminder enough now next moving down from there towards the passenger seat I'm sitting in you obviously have the gear lever and below that you have the gear shift pattern this is a six-speed manual and the pattern is explained right below the actual lever itself and you also have reverse which is sort of an unusual function there is a little lever with a red arrow pointing down in order to engage reverse you have to pull up on that lever which removes the reverse lockout and then you can shift into reverse gear so you don't accidentally shift into reverse it's just a regular old reverse lockout but it's kind of an unusual operation now below the gear lever in the reverse lockout you have over on the right side of the driver the climate controls you can adjust the temperature you can adjust the fan speed you can turn on or off recirculating air there are also two other buttons in that little switch panel one of them says light that turns on the dome lights so if you ever wondered how to turn on the dome lights in a McLaren f1 it's that little button there over to the right of the light you have a button marked lock that power auto locks the doors the McLaren f1 has automatic locks and that's how you do it now below all the climate controls in those buttons you have another window switch obviously this controls the window over on the right side of the car and then you have power mirrors and that's the power mirror control for the McLaren f1 who knew this car doesn't have floor mats but it has obviously this very custom carpeting that perfectly fits the McLaren f1 so you have the passenger footwell you have the driver foot well all fully carpeted and it looks very nice and it fits very well and next up we move around back in the McLaren f1 and we move on to the engine and specifically I want to talk about opening up the engine compartment now I mentioned earlier that you can do that by pulling the little latch in the doorjamb marked E that opens the engine compartment but it's actually kind of more interesting than that because you have one of those latches on the either side on either door jambs so just like you can choose which side of the McLaren f1 you want to get in you could also choose which side you want to use to unlatch your engine compartment but once you've done that you've pulled the little a latch it gets to this position and then you open it up carefully and that reveals the glorious BMW v12 under the hood like I mentioned 620 horsepower and this is a very special engine BMW didn't put this engine in any other Road car it was just the McLaren f1 and it was effectively developed solely for the McLaren f1 the BMW 850 CSI shares a somewhat similar base design but basically everything else was custom-built just for this car by BMW and it's essentially a racing engine because this engine with only a few modifications is what McLaren ended up putting in the f1 GTR race car which one Lamar and then the EMW took this engine and modified it slightly and put it in its own race cars that competed at Lamar and other endurance races so this is a pretty serious engine effectively a race engine in a road car now you may be wondering how did the McLaren f1 end up with a BMW engine apparently the engineers the designers at McLaren wanted Honda to make the engine when developing the f1 they were benchmarking cars like the Lamborghini come Tosh in the Ferrari Testarossa and then apparently one of the designers of the car drove the Acura NSX that car made a huge impression on the McLaren team because it was so balanced and composed and so fun to drive without being overpowered and crazy like a lot of other exotics at the time periods so the McLaren team approached Honda and said will you please build us an engine to put into our supercar and Honda didn't want to do it and so after a couple of times trying to convince Honda McLaren eventually went to BMW who did build the engine now next up a couple of other interesting items in the engine compartment I want to start with possibly the most unusual that would be the back windows now I showed you earlier the back windows are split in two but something I didn't realize is the engine compartment cover has its own two back windows so that means the McLaren f1 has four back windows there are two at the back of the passenger compartment and then there are two more on the actual engine lid itself so there are four rear windows in this car matching the four climate control events other interesting items you can see it says BMW M power right there on the engine printed right next to McLaren reminding everyone it was a BMW powertrain in this vehicle and you can also see how the roof scoop on it sucks in air and it brings the air into the engine you can kind of see the workings of that with the engine cover up you can also see the engine lid is held up by one single hydraulic strike the truth is this is carbon fiber it just really isn't all that heavy and so you don't need anything more than that one single hydraulic strut in the middle now the other interesting item back here something I didn't really realize is the fact that this car has two engine covers you see the one that's open currently but there's also a second one this one here now the smaller one can only be opened once the bigger one has been opened the bigger one keeps the smaller one in place and the smaller one only really covers the exhaust and this part of the car gets really really hot and so there was some fear about the heat damaging the carbon fiber at the time this was the very first fully carbon-fiber vehicle so McLaren was wondering how do we keep the heat separate from the carbon fiber they didn't know what to you is a heat shield they settled on gold that's right this material in here is not just something that looks like gold it is actual gold designed to keep the heat inside this engine compartment and away from the body of the car damaging the rest of it and so every single McLaren f1 has 0.8 ounces of gold under the hood acting as a heat shield that is pretty impressive and obviously tremendously interesting by the way one other item to note while I'm back here looking at the engine obviously the McLaren f1 spur duction car speed record has been broken by several other vehicles the Bugatti the Koenigsegg etc etc but it's worth noting that every car that has broken the speed record since this car has had forced induction this was the last naturally aspirated car to hold the production car speed record I felt that was worth mentioning and next up we move on to the outside of the car where there are quite a few interesting details and features to touch on I want to start with the mirrors the greatest sports car ever made the world's fastest production car borrows its mirrors from the Volkswagen Corrado which was a little Volkswagen hatchback sporty coupe thing that was sold in the u.s. from 1990 to 1994 it's amazing that this special incredible car has the same mirrors as a little Volkswagen that a lot of people have forgotten it's a fairly simple part if you ever break a mirror on your McLaren f1 just go search in junkyards for Volkswagen Corrado's also simple is the lighting on this car not particularly unusual or crazy like a lot of modern supercars have crazy lights the front lights are just lights and back it's even simpler you got a brake light and you got a turn signal there's really not all that much to it the wheels are also fairly simple just regular old five spokes 17-inch wheels no crazy design nothing particularly weird about them although they are centre lock wheels which was a little bit unusual even with exotic cars back in the McLaren f1 day but it's becoming more and more common on exotic cars and sports cars today with that said even though the wheels aren't particularly special I want to draw your attention to the McLaren f1 valve stem caps yes it has unique valve stem caps they say F one on them I wonder what a set of these would go for on eBay today probably like a gram another interesting item on this car is the side windows you can see it has one large side window but it's broken into two parts sort of like the Subaru SVX it only the lower part actually rolls down the upper part is fixed Jay told me the reason they broken it in two parts is to add strength by making it two pieces sort of line that goes across makes it a little bit stronger so when you're driving it at 240 miles an hour it won't break which was a problem I guess with one giant pane of glass on the side of the car and next up we move over to the passenger side or in this cart I guess just the right side where we have the other luggage compartment again you pull the little L and this signs luggage compartment opens once again surprisingly large now I told you that this side was more interesting than the other side and there are two reasons for that one is because this is the place where you add engine oil you can see you can pull this cap off and you can add engine oil right here and there's a little warning label that says check oil level immediately after running engine so every time you drove this car McLaren intended for you to check the oil which is not a common procedure in a lot of cars but this is not a lot of cars now the other reason it's a little bit more interesting over on this side is because this side contains the case and the case contains the owner's manual yes that's right this is a McLaren f1 specific case it says f1 on it you open it up and we're gonna go through a couple of the quirks and features of the McLaren f1 owner's manual here's the first page of the owner's manual the introduction and obviously I invite you to pause this and read it for yourself my two favorite lines are the first paragraph where it says the McLaren f1 applies solutions to all the inherent shortcomings of mid-engine sports cars but the best line is the last one where it says that as a McLaren f1 owner you will receive the same attention that helped make niki lauda Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna multiple f1 world champions that's pretty cool to see moving on you can see the owner's manual is pretty simple but it's full of these very cool hand drawn depictions of things which I just love and I'll turn through a few pages so you can check them out while I'm doing this it's worth noting that the f1 also came with its own special wristwatch which Jay told me that he still has kind of the ultimate watch for people who know the best part of the f1 owner's manual though is here where it explains the best procedure for getting out of the car at least according to this crash dummy and so that's a quick tour of the owner's manual two other interesting and noteworthy items in the McLaren f1 case one is the fact that it also includes a special flashlight just in case you need to shine your way in the dark and then there is a separate book that would be the logbook for service and maintenance which has its own interesting quirks to me this is even cooler than the owner's manual because it starts with several pages that explain the car's original specification written by hand presumably at the McLaren factory 20 years ago it mentions the luggage set that came with these cars it mentions the red stripe on the side that this car has and it goes through the original positioning of the pedals the seat in the steering wheel as ordered by the first owner the coolest part though is probably the signature of Gordon Murray who pretty much carried the car from start to finish with one specific vision of what he wanted from the ultimate sports car another interesting item on the outside of the car is the fuel filler it's over on the driver's side or just the left side and you can see it says PB that's the chemical symbol for lead and then across through its own OLED or unleaded in order to open the fuel filler you have to use a key which is separate from the key that you use in the ignition in the car there's a special key in speaking of the key if you're like me you've probably always wondered what the ignition key looks like for a McLaren f1 and so here it is this is the McLaren f1 key there's only sixty four lucky people out here with one of these plus a few other race cars and prototypes and then there were some special versions bringing it up to 106 but still there aren't very many of these keys out there and so those are the quirks and features of the McLaren f1 now I mentioned I'd be getting this car out in the road but I didn't say that I was going to drive it instead the car owner is going to drive it that B Jay Leno who's going to take me for a ride here in the Los Angeles area and tell us what it's like to drive the McLaren f1 well the nice thing about it is it's a it's still a passenger car it's not a rough riding yeah you know sports car that so you tolerate how often you drive it it ones every month or six weeks something like that yeah are you nervous when you drive you can't throw it around the way you wanna be on or something right hey you but you're not worried some dude in like a Sienna he's gonna know how to see is going to not see you and that'll be that well you know right this car it's like riding a motorcycle I never take it when I have to be somewhere yeah yeah cuz I'm not going to take chance yeah this car comes out morning you know yeah early in the Sunday morning Sunday afternoon I'm not in this car on a Saturday night walk through Hollywood right I don't take it to clubs I don't bail ahead you know go to restaurants yeah that kind so how long have you had it 20 years 20 years yeah just about maybe are you surprised that the values have gone where they have that this car has become like the greatest car and everybody's estimation yes the trick to making money with cars if you're reasonably knowledgeable and you enjoy it as a hobby and you buy what you like there's a good chance other people won't like it too right but so this car you bought not realizing that it would become like now you liked it I like you thought it was cool you thought it was special yeah I mean I liked it for what it was I never thought it would drop so much but I never thought it would become what it do you do you agree that people say it's you know the greatest car made a lot do you agree the land well I think it's the ultimate sports car of the 20th century yeah this came right at the end of the 20th century yeah it's the last truly analog high-performance sports car there's nothing on this car there's no catalog right right so consequently you will never see the likes of that ever again and this was Gordon Murray's the idea what the perfect car should be like extremely lightweight and nothing was compromised even down to this to the smallest washer he which they would be shamed so they were right there one millimeter of whatever that is yeah yeah no so that's what makes it because as opposed to a car that's like designed by committee where people have million different people have to approve a million different things all right exactly exactly do you is it weird sit in the middle no sitting in the middle is really the ideal position because the eight pillars far enough back so you have perfect vision and allows you to place the car in the middle of the road I have a damaged Viper and that seems enormous I'm sitting over there by over the center line I can't Wow there's no AIDS there's no trench control that was fought here in the turn throw up and your it's not a car to give me a 6 Peter he said weird having people on either side of you is that a screen open guys you're behind me right so in cycle feels fairly normal I can't see you acceleration is obviously explosive and that was crazy yeah it's very good weighs the same as a viata when you've got 600 degrees you think about pure design is it's pure it doesn't knock anybody socks off necessarily it's calming and it lasts a long time yeah you know you look a lot of doing a lot of design so 250 whoa look at that wow that looks ridiculous right right right do you keep up with other f1 honours you guys have like a little fraternity of the few of you that exist it's an interesting question you know they become so expensive he can't be a car guy we got to be something else first yeah I don't like car is it the most exciting of your cars the one when you want to really be picked around you go and get in well you know the pizjuรกn is very good yeah mine's technology he's the steering super-tight as it really connected do you feel like the coolest guy in the world ready to take this to the out I feel like the luckiest guy yeah you know the fun thing about this car is it will always fascinates you because I'm not good enough to make it do what it's right sure you know so I will never truly master it but every time I take it out I've learned something and I enjoy it you know it's just so linear right you know a lot of cars you take a big ls7 and remember there's a lot of it doesn't have this tournament like quality to do you take people for rides that are up because I'm sure this is the woman right with people on it this is the I enjoy sharing that cars we get a lot of grief on the internet no you show I don't know I mean when I was a kid I would have loved to have gotten gotten arrived in something like totally I mean my favorite story just got to do it tonight I've been letter from a 12 year old kid it is not oh can you help me I called my friends and my uncle up weekend we go for rides and your food - BLAP BLAP could you drive me to school I think so my friend - think you're my uncle okay right away the kids a liar but when I was so and I thought the stories are funny I call this out that's what dude parents I said yeah I'll do that so I got to the house to pick them up you know if we wait until the school busses the kids run long and we pull up the door oh well you know that kid's gonna buy a could touch every hip center makes it big what Evers feel how his maintenance menus work on it in the shop it's not inexpensive runs no Camry you guys feel comfortable doing it and it's not an oil change and their usual maintenance yeah have you had the clarify I'm did you stop to it or the other guy and so that's the McLaren f1 the fastest production car in the world for a decade of near twenty million dollar sports car a marvel of engineering and maybe the greatest car ever made it's been incredible to have the opportunity to come here and check this thing out up close and I hope you've enjoyed a deep dive into a car that you just don't get to see all that often and now with an assist from Jay Leno who actually drove the car it's time to give the f1 a Doug score starting with the weekend categories and styling the f1 is a beautiful car though it's more purpose-built than outright gorgeous like some others and it gets an 8 out of 10 acceleration does 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds and it gets a 9 out of 10 handling is as perfectly balanced and as sharp as it gets and it gets a 10 out of 10 fun factor obviously is the highest you can imagine it gets a 10 out of 10 finally cool factor is at the top it doesn't get any cooler than this and it gets a 10 out of 10 for a total weekend score of 47 out of 50 next up are the daily categories and features it has more than you might expect given what it is but it's not ultra high-tech like a modern car and it gets a 2 out of 10 Comfort is surprisingly reasonable considering how fast and thrilling it is and it gets a 3 out of 10 quality is tremendously high with every possible item seemingly obsessed over since this category also considers reliability and ownership cost though I'll drop it down a point for a 9 out of 10 practicality is surprisingly high not only does it seat 3 people but it has more cargo space than you might expect and it gets a 3 out of 10 finally value 20 million is a lot to say the least but you only ever get one shot at the greatest car ever made and make it's a 10 out of 10 for a total daily score of 27 out of 50 and to add it up the dug score is 74 hundred which makes it the new dug score champion beating out all these other amazing cars Koenigsegg Bugatti Pagani 918 spyder Ferrari f40 MacLaren's go with the f12 create the ultimate Road car I think they succeeded [Music] I just can't believe you'd turn it around it they would just scare me so much given the value yeah it is scared just even if you're the best driver in the world you know that guy might not one thing you don't want to do is take like a YouTube journalist out and heavy traffic in LA at like 5 o'clock that's like the worst thing you could do with a car like this because nothing terrible

Feels like yesterday I was watching this small time YouTube guy crush an Allroad with his Defender and now he's reviewing cars in Jay Leno's garage. Very happy for you u/Doug-DeMuro - thanks for the years of free entertainment, looking forward to all the things to come!
