Third Grade Classroom Setup Day 8 | I Need YOUR Help! | 2018-2019

[Music] good morning guys it's 7:00 a.m. I'm wearing some new earrings and I look much more professional today because I'm going to my first professional development yay huh it's a all day one um um for the county I'm hoping to get back into my classroom by the end of the day but it would be a very long day so I need some coffee so let's go [Music] so I made it to my classroom and I'm really happy to be here so I did have my professional development all day it's almost like four o'clock now I got some great resources which I will show you but I am NOT I've made the decision to not go tomorrow it is optional I don't have to go both days I didn't even have to go at all and I just got my mind wrapped around a lot of stuff today and I just want to soak that in I wasn't really as excited about the sessions tomorrow anyway so what I'm doing right now is cleaning off my lunch count little names from last year I wrap my students names on these magnets and then I think what I'm going to do this year is stick it to the other side of my filing cabinet so as they walk in the room they can make their lunch choice a lot of people always ask me what lunch choices so it's just the kids who buy lunch they're making their choice for the day so the cafeteria has a count of what they need to make and how many kids brought lunch that's all lunch choices and yes I'm going to do I'm going to try to do the Hungry Hungry Hippos hungry hungry kiddos theme that someone so graciously suggested and I think it's an awesome idea I'll just have to see if I can get around to it I do want to finish labeling my library today and make a list of the labels that I have to make and I'm going to try again to put my book bingo on the other wall there's a lot of controversy but there's a lot of different ideas about the book bingo some people asked why I don't just have the students keep it in a folder it's because I'm using it as a motivational tool so I want them to see if other students are reading a lot of books and getting a lot accomplished I want them that to motivate them to do the same thing and also book bingo it's a game so it fits with theme the colors are just definitely obnoxious but I already printed them so I want to use them my other thought was to put it on the students cubbies so have one on top one on bottom one on top one on bottom and have the book bingo displayed there but I don't know I like them all together some people think that looks fun some people look think it looks busy I kind of feel a mix of both I could also try it to line it up straighter and see what that would look like but again I think I'm gonna put it back on that wall someone also suggested putting it on my cabinet over here and I can move my calendar that's just a spot where you'll be able to see my calendar like I don't know where else I would put it because I need the students to be able to reach it too and I feel like if it was over here this would block like because a student's gonna sit all the way back here they're not going to be able to see a calendar if it's on that wall I originally had planned to put it behind my desk but there's not much wall space there also it's my student job to add the number every day so that's why this is kind of the perfect place for my calendar so I did go to several reading sessions because I haven't taught reading since student teaching so I did get this ultimate read aloud resource by Lester l-lemon ak who talks about using five read Aloud's over and over and over again for different standards that way you're certain books become best friends with your children because you use them one particular book in so many different ways and then I also got the fountas and pinnell prompting guide to help with meaning structure and visual small group lessons I won this one well actually the teacher next to me did and she said I already have one of these you probably need this and gave it to me so thank you to her so those were the two things I got every time I add so many more book bins to my shelves and I still feel like I have so many books to go through and that one just completely toppled over so let me explain what I got going on here and let me know your ideas because this is what I'm struggling with I have a few Judy Blume books like - I have - Judy Moody and I maybe have two Junie B Jones so like I somehow want to group those together because they're all pretty similar except Judy Blume could be more boy friendly I mean of course they're all boy friendly but typically girls go for these kinds of books so what kind of category can I group all of those into let me know also I have all my Roald Dahl Kate DiCamillo and EB White and I was going to do I have the classic category which I was going to put all those together in because I don't have enough of each to make separate bins as you can see here it's just a tiny little stack but those are like favorite authors so maybe like Mizpah Vince Kees favorites the only thing about doing classics is I had these little house books in classics however I don't really have that many so I don't even know if I'm gonna put these out or if I do I'll put them in a different category because these are pretty difficult books so like besides this schooldays one I'll probably put this one out okay I made the decision these are gonna go away because they're too difficult for third graders encyclopedia brown I only have four so I'm going to put these in mystery Flat Stanley I have six so those are going to get their own category and that's what I'm working with over here so let me know your thoughts on that all right I don't want to burn myself out with the library so let me explain to you what I got going on here I could have moved these to complete this shelf I might do that just so I feel more accomplished I went ahead and put the Little House on the Prairie schooldays book in culture because I want that category that genre to be a mix of everything so whether it's I have different music in there I have different life styles and their different backgrounds people coming from different places so it's a very diverse category so I added that to there and I went ahead and put there behind the drawn most Hilton books but I put the encyclopedia brown in mystery because I did not have enough to make their own category so what I have left here are animal nonfiction books just general nonfiction so I could just loop all of that into nonfiction but it would be nice to have an animal category all of this is just fiction I have a little bit of horror those two that I talked about over there this one is TV and movies and then school books is what's back there I believe the category of school so oh I do have two big blue bins left awesome so then I definitely am going to keep these two separate so I'll have to make a new label for animal nonfiction and I'll put the other nonfiction into that blue bin I have two big bins left so I have the pink one and the yellow one and what I will probably do is put maybe this TV movie category into the pink one and then the school I'll just line it up 2 rows of chapter books and then I'll probably end up having to put my fiction in this pink bucket and then I have three of those red ones left and I have one two three four categories there I do have all of these red ones but I don't know if I'm going to use them I might get more of the dollar spot Target bins now that they sell them online because those are going to last forever like my yellow bins from really good stuff oh man those I feel like they're gonna fall apart at the end of the year because I just have such heavy books in them and the ones from Target are so sturdy so that's where I'm at with all this I also have a pile of magazines I think I want to put those in my library I'll probably put them in that blue bin I just like to expose my kids to all different types of literature I also have the newspaper up there this is all aviation and space stories in one newspaper I caught this from Space Camp and I just think this is awesome and my kids loved it last year the problem is like it's newspaper and I don't want it to get ruined like this is just such a special thing to me so I think I'm going to get this laminated so the library is coming together guys these are all the labels that I'm not using and all of the stickers that I'm done with and then over there are the ones I still need I ran out of the little let's see if I have an example Oh on the blue ones I was using smaller rings and I ran out of them so now I have these huge ones over here so I might need to get some more of those just because those are really dangling over there looking at my book bingo I really really like it like it looks crazy on camera because you can't really see the words but you can see the font in person like that's you could see what it is and I think because you can't tell what it is it looks crazy and since I haven't completely stapled it down yet but I think really quick I'm just gonna pin some up there and see how I like that so it's obviously going to take up a lot less space now I would still have to put two more rows on top of that I just don't have enough to do that right now I can now also spread them out I'm gonna try that tomorrow but I'm going to head out for now because it is gettin late I know some of you said you liked this better and I kind of did too I just thought it looked really busy I think I really like it down here and then like I said I'm gonna put
