The Wonderful World of Terrible Collector's Editions

Collector's Editions of games are always 50 50. they gotta be a really cool collectible that you'd be proud of owning or they could be this cheap toy that breaks immediately video games have found many creative ways to entice their fans into buying useless junk by either making an exclusive or one of a kind only for them to end up in clearance aisles because as it turns out no one wants a life-size replica of Master Chief's boots despite how terrible some of these Collector's Editions are it still doesn't stop the video game industry for continuing the trend of making some absolutely abysmal colleges additions and I want to make fun of some of the more questionable ones but first let's lay down some ground rules of what a collector's edition even is they are usually the more expensive variants of certain game releases who usually containing much more stuff there is a regular retail version costing around 60 dollars then the limited edition version which in costs 20 extra and contain more stuff while the Collector's Editions are the big packages that contain even more stuff these things can vary from statues art books com mix figurines or even boxers they can be highly sought out there since they can contain memorabilia from the game series they come from and can be very unique to own however some games do jump the gun of what they constitute as cool and end up in the disasters that we have here let's begin with the Legend of Zelda the series of games known by many as some of the best of all time and are often treated with Prestige there's a reason everyone's always excited whenever a new one's on the horizon and that's because these games have proven themselves to be worthy of that title they also have some truly great collectors editions of their games such as the Skyward Sword that came bundled with this amazing gold Huey moat and a bonus soundtrack of the game or my personal favorite breath of the wild that came with this replica statue of the master sword so with the sequel tears of the Kingdom coming out soon what did they decide to do for the collector's edition I hope you like pins don't get me wrong this isn't the worst Collector's Edition in the world but it's a definite downgrade from the game previously and it's nowhere near as enticing to get but what really sold me on this one being terrible was what the Japanese version was offering a spoon and a fork yeah this is definitely a choice but at least with the utensils they can be useful unlike our next Collector's Editions the Call of Duty World award canteen which infamously could not be used as a canteen it's okay though because it came with an expired code what a deal there's a lot of these types of collectors editions that come with something that sounds kind of neat until you get it and you realize it's cheap and useless and Call of Duty can be Infamous with these since they often makes these super expensive colleges additions that come with suddenly from the game that can admittedly be pretty awesome like the night vision goggles that came packaged with the MW2 collectors edition but sometimes you will get the RCXD that was so cheap it felt like something you would get at a bargain store I would know since I bought one great exchange of money right there speaking of looking cheap Marvel vs Capcom infinite promise to have one of the coolest Collector's Editions coming in with four statues of four playable characters instead of the typical one as well as having a replica of the Infinity Stones these were promised to look like real life gems but once you opened them you would soon realize that they looked more like plastic Easter eggs than anything else oh they glow people immediately call this out for what it was and caused this particular collector's edition to always be in stock because of how ugly it was one of the more Infamous ones was Resident Evil 4 limited edition chainsaw controller this one has become so well known that it's basically become a meme at this point for being such a unique novelty while this isn't a traditional collected Edition since it was a separate purchase it pretty much had the presentation of a fancy collectors edition we see today but unlike many of the other stuff we talked about this controller actually works it may be very unconventional but the sheer stupidity of it made this sun would be loved by the fans it's so beloved in fact that for the Remake the creators talked about the potential of bringing it back but it was canceled to focus on the development on the game I could only imagine if someone actually brought this out to a fighting tournament and I could see the crowd going wild just for the controller alone this thing just screams iconic for all the wrong reasons but while the chainsaw controller may be strange at least you get as advertised unlike this next one which was so big lately not what it was advertised as that it landed the company in hot water Bethesda the people who don't know how to launch a game properly without it bursting into flames somehow managed to screw up their Collector's Edition in spectacular fashion who would have guessed Fallout 76 the game that somehow stays relevant promised that their power armor Edition would come with a Nifty Brotherhood of Steel helmet as well as being packaged in a canvas bag but once people actually got their hands on them they were soon met with not a canvas bag but a very cheaply made nylon bag fans noticed this almost immediately and a lot of them demanded refunds some even prompting to sue for false advertisement this actually held a lot of Merit and scared Bethesda so much that they issued an apology almost immediately as well as setting up a website so people could place a ticket to redeem one canvas bag for those who bought the power armor Edition but since this is Bethesda they somehow managed to screw up something as simple as setting up a website because in their Infinite Wisdom they made it so any anybody who submitted for the canvas bag replacement had their entire personal information link by making the domain public they did manage to fix this quickly but they could not seem to catch a break even funnier a variant of the helmet had to be recalled because they used a certain fabric that could produce mold luckily no one was injured but it goes to show you just how badly mishandled some of these colleges additions can be there were also these collectors editions that were made in order to stir up publicity such as with Dying Light my apocalypse Edition the cost of whopping 250 000 pounds or roughly 387 thousand dollars they promised a multitude of stuff such as building your very own zombie-proof shelter parkour lessons from the guys who did Dying Light parkour Style videos not one but two headsets four signed copies of the game getting your face to be one of the zombie characters in the game flying out to Poland to meet the developers and diapers while this may seem a bit exaggerated I'm pretty sure this was just a joke meant to drive up cells in in the UK since the game had already been out in other countries still someone out there could potentially be playing their four copies of Dying Light hiding in their zombie-proof shelter but we will never really know believe it or not this is still not the most ridiculous colleges Edition as one game has a beat that being Saint Rows 4 the super dangerous wildlife Edition aka the million dollar pack there was only one copy available and it would include the following a full-size replica of dubstep gun a full day of spy training a trip to space a personal shopper and even plastic surgery all for the small loan of one million dollars of course this is most definitely a joke because I don't think a game Studio could afford a dubstick gun that thing is worth at least 2 million this is also a jab at just how ludicrous and expensive some of these collectors editions can be but it's still funny that this was available for purchase although the link for it no longer works I do wonder if someone actually bought this and the game Studio actually build all this stuff but unfortunately I can't really find any evidence of that being the case the worst collectors editions however are the ones that have something that no one even remotely wants such as with the Dead Island Riptide collectors edition that came with this I don't even know why anyone will want this or even buy it for that matter this is just a bust of a woman's torso in a bikini whose head and legs were eaten off by presumably zombies which is definitely a choice not the correct one but a choice after some harsh backlash from the fans the company quickly came out and apologized but stuck to the guns and released it anyways nice rests another questionable Collective Edition has to be the for three years who decided another questionable Coletta's Edition has to be the fifth three here who decided that they want Factory for three what would they call it who decided that the only thing Gamers really want is a statue of a pregnant woman with a glow-in-the-dark baby finally someone who understands the demographic but after all the ones we just covered I feel like there's a certain group of collectors editions that warrant the title of being the worst of them all take a look at this it may seem like an ordinary collector's edition complete with a trademark bunch of stuff that could honestly be cool on its own but what truly takes the cake is that this Edition doesn't offer what is arguably the most important thing the game itself you heard that right the one thing you're most likely buying these additions for isn't even part of the purchase essentially making this whole deal a huge waste of money for some ungodly reason multiple gains have pulled this stunt where they offer everything but the game in their collectors editions these are high profile games as well which feels very disingenuous since these games can cost 60 dollars alone so having to pay extra for what is essentially junk is just plain evil to end this video I want to talk about some of the cooler collectors editions and why they could be worth it to some people like I mentioned earlier the Modern Warfare 2 night vision goggles which were so iconic that went Modern Warfare 2019 came out they decided to bring back the night vision goggles for the collector's edition of the game but first though also managed to make one that didn't burst into flames with their Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition that came with you guessed it Pip-Boy accessory and miraculously didn't screw it up so Props to them also any colors and editions that comes with a highly detailed statue are almost always some of the the best I also want to give a huge shout out to any in the game with the collectors edition which are not only cheaper but also come with the most amount of love I especially love the undertow one that comes with this heart-shaped music box locket that plays one of the songs from the game but if I had to have a favorite then it's probably breath of the Wild's collector's edition I love it so much that I didn't buy it because I was a broke college student and had wasted all my money on a new console and I could not muster wasted another 70 dollars despite how bad some of these collectors editions have been it's always fun to look back at them and laugh at the sheer audacity especially for the Dead Island one like what the hell man but even after all that there's a reason why people go out of the way to buy them it's always nice to see when a game company goes through all the extra effort of making a quality Collector's Editions now if only they could put that effort into making good games as well alone on a Friday night no problem Sonic Mania collector's edition handles stubborn scams it even comes with a gold ring for that special someone in your life she said yes congrats you two but wait it comes with a game too
