- Before we begin this
show, I have to first pose this question to Michael. Michael, do you know about your
wife, Sue's, passionate love affair with Joshua? Yes, I do. OPRAH: You do. Well in a moment-- he does-- Michael
is going to hear the sordid details about
his wife's thing for Joshua. Mhm. Look at his face. Oh. Despite appearances,
Sue Gilbert really has nothing to feel
ashamed or guilty about, nor should Michael be
upset, because the reason is that Sue's romance with
Joshua occurred in a past life. OK. Stay with me. Listen up. Today, spouses are going
to hear some really unbelievable accounts
of what their spouse was doing in a past life. Let me tell you, there was some
stuff going on in the past. We recently invited couples
from past shows of ours to undergo past life therapy. So if these people
look familiar to you, it's because you might have
seen them on this show before. We invited them back
to see if it gave them any answers to their conflicts
or explain why they were drawn together in the first place. Carl and Karen have been
married now 17 years and they have eight children. Let's give them an
Academy Award for that. [APPLAUSE] Couple of Oscars. Eight children. That's tough to do these days. They appeared on a show
called "The Marriage Lab" to talk about how they
work out their differences peacefully. Michael and Susan Gilbert have
been married now for eight years, and they have two boys. You may remember them as the
bickering couple from this show that we did about how
spouse fights make you sick. Well-- yeah. I was just taking his blood
pressure to see how sick he was gonna get over the argument. Well, guiding the couples
through past lives are two hypnotherapist from
the Association for Past Life Research and Therapies. There's a lot of this
going on these days. Janet Taylor is a former skeptic
who has now become a believer. Nothing like a skeptic
turned believer. And Dr. Hazel
Denning is possibly the most experienced
regressionist in the world, with 35 years of practice. She is also a
doctor of psychology and is former president
of the Association for Past Life Research. So let's begin with
Michael and Sue. They decided to work on
their bickering problem, since that's their biggest
problem, as you can see from their last TV appearance. OK. Did you see my hands
were full with something? No. You were at the door
taking your boots off. I was walking across the-- And how was I
supposed to know-- no, you were not walking across.
- --the living room floor. - And I said--
- Yes, I was. --can you take Matt?
I'm going to go-- The boots are as big as him.
You talking about? I said, can you take Matt? I'm going to go and
pick up Michael. Sue went under. Michael wasn't successful
because not everybody is. I haven't done it because
I don't think I can be. But anyway, and it all began
with her marriage to Joshua. Sue recalled that it was
1780 when she married Joshua. We go for a carriage ride. We sit under a nice
tree having a picnic. Joshua was telling me-- DR. DENNING: See, you
did know his name. [LAUGHS]
- Yeah. DR. DENNING: It just
slipped out, didn't it? OK, Joshua was telling you what? He was telling me that
when he's a little older, he'd like to run his own place. DR. DENNING: Mhm. Nobody could
talk to me the way Josh could talk, make me laugh. I knew Josh was my man. So the night-- the night
that we got engaged, my dad first told
me that Josh was gonna come to call for dinner. And I just knew. And he had told me what
Josh had been planning, and asked me how
I felt about Josh. And I told my father that
I loved Josh very much. And we got engaged. I had a big ruby ring, four
little diamonds around it. That was my engagement ring. I had a beautiful,
pale blue dress. DR. DENNING: Made in Paris? Mhm. It was like an ice blue. DR. DENNING: Go to your
death in that life. How long did you live? I was about 65. DR. DENNING: Well, that was
a good long life, wasn't it? Mhm. DR. DENNING: And did you
live as long as you did? No. DR. DENNING: He
died before you did? About five years before. DR. DENNING: What was your last
conscious dying thought death, just before your
spirit left your body? Josh. DR. DENNING: You're
still thinking of him. Mhm. I had a beautiful life. DR. DENNING: You had
a beautiful life. It sounds like you did. Mhm. DR. DENNING: But
where was Michael? Sue did locate Michael, the
husband that she's married to in this lifetime,
in that lifetime, though she was in no position
to get involved with him. Take a look at this. Michael was my
girlfriend's husband. DR. DENNING: When? When I knew Josh. DR. DENNING: Oh, way back then? He was Kitty's husband. DR. DENNING: He was what? Kitty's husband. Kitty-- Katherine. My girlfriend.
DR. DENNING: Your girlfriend? So he was your
girlfriend's husband? Mhm. DR. DENNING: Did you know
each other very well? Mhm. I liked him a lot. DR. DENNING: You
were good friends. Mhm. DR. DENNING: Did you think
you loved each other? I liked him from
the beginning. He was a very nice man. DR. DENNING: Yes. I was attracted to him. DR. DENNING: Mhm. But I had my marriage vows. DR. DENNING: Sure. Adam. DR. DENNING: His name was Adam? Michael was Adam. DR. DENNING: Oh, so
you liked him, too. Yeah.
I liked him. DR. DENNING: How long
were you friends? 'Til the day I died. Wow. Now, I know that there
are many, many, many of you who are so skeptical. Even in this audience,
you should see the faces as they're looking at the tape. What'd you think of that, Sue? I was very skeptical myself. I mean, even when
I went home, I just couldn't believe
that I was actually saying what I was saying. OPRAH: Yeah, 'cause
you sound very lucid. It was just really odd. I mean, but I went home and I
was so peaceful with myself, but I just kept--
the last few days, too, I keep telling
everyone, I'm like, I don't know if I
still believe it. I mean, how do I know I'm not
saying something that I've read about or dreamed about? OPRAH: So when you're doing
it-- because I haven't done it. I'm scared to do it. I'm really scared to do it. Also, I'm not sure. I'm not-- care who I was. I really don't,
because I'm having a good time in this lifetime.
This is a good one right here. [LAUGHTER] But I'm a little
scared to do it--
