welcome to the heavy spoiler show I'm your host Paul and this video I want to talk about The Walking Dead the ones who live is just premiered and I think its first episode's absolutely incredible now if you've been following the channel for a while now then you'll know we used to cover the Walking Dead religiously like a lot of you though I feel the show died and then it stumbled around like a walker for a while sure it was there but it wasn't the same and because of this my interest in it dropped heavily however I think things did pick up towards the end and in those final Seasons I found a lot of enjoyment the spin-offs were pretty solid too but there wasn't anything that made me really feel like we were back it was kind of like well the Walking Dead's dead but then you go and do something like this and totally redeem yourself you're godamn right I have to hand it to them this episode made me realize how much I missed Rick and after watching it I just had to talk about it there's so many Easter eggs and things to break down and yeah from this point on we're going to be spoiling it all Heavy spoilers ahead yet so if you haven't had a chance to check it out then I highly recommend that you check out now I'm dead dead serious mate the episode's worth watching on spoiled and yeah definitely go put it on now as I think that you'll enjoy it but out the way huge thank you for clicking this now let us get into the ones who live now from the off it instantly lets you know when not [ __ ] around and Rick cuts off his hand in the first 10 minutes if you're a comic fan then you'll know it's something that should have happened years ago and it always felt like it was missing from the series they teased it a number of times and even at one point almost had reced off calls this made people think that he was instead going to do his but they found a way to always chicken out of it now full transparency mate I wasn't going to cover this show cuz life kind of gets in the way and it's difficult to obligate yourself to covering a series every week especially if you're not enjoying it however I heard good things and me and my wife sat down last night to watch it and both of us did an oh [ __ ] moment seeing him type his arm had us looking at each other like holy crap they're actually going to do it now why I think this introduction works so well is that symbolically it shows the Trap that Rick's been caught in animals will often chew off him to get out of one and metaphorically it sums up the situation even just the shot of his R winding down it lets you know he's always being held back I love how he keep cutting to it spinning out and lets us know the control he's been subjugated to Rick is only allowed to go as far as they let him and it's the perfect way to show us how he's been trapped Rick is someone who's desperate to escape and we also find out what he's been up to since we last left him we find out Rick woke up in a hospital which of course mirrors how he woke up in the first episode Taken in by the Civil Republic this organization's been killing him with kindness but we do learn there's a sadistic side to them and the name gets short into CRM in reference to their military which you might also nowaday sounds like the word serum well you might not but I've I've been putting together a video for A Clockwork Orange and cubric sometimes put crm114 in his films and in that he had serum 114 look you don't care but it's it's a very important group now it turns out that not all civilizations have fallen and there's a city that exists with 100,000 people they have running water air conditioning always subscribe and are one of the last strongholds that exists within America now in order to get into it people after workers can sign for 6 years which we learn is what Rick's been doing shout outs to our editor Matt for pointing out this is a Civic Republic Co facility which has shown up before and the world Beyond sounds great right except for just one little thing nobody not even the dogs are let out [ __ ] hell it's bad one that but what I mean by that is that they're under strict ndas and nobody's allowed to leave in case The Secret Gets Out this could end up attracting other people and it would eventually lead to the fall of what they've got so those on the outside have to work to earn it and we catch Rick clearing out Walkers har Rick's someone who just wants to get home and he's someone who'll do anything to get back to Michonne that includes cutting his hand off and I hope the guy can still hit the thumbs up as can you now Rick is someone who's driven by love and it's in this at the other characters of the episode miror him these are Colonel oap for who sees potential within him and also tells him that he should join the military the military is such a cool addition to the show and it adds an amazing theme to the work that really helps to propel it off the top of my head I don't think we've seen this persp active in any other zombie show and watched as they carry out missions with Precision I know 28 Weeks Later and World War Z had army stuff in it but here was solely rooted in their perspective this will act as a way for Rick to gain power and also potentially lead to his Escape however for's hiding his own secrets and he too at one point had a chance to be with the one he loved turns out that he used to be a marine that was married to a woman who he learns called Estelle when the outbreak happened he was put in charge of liquidating cities which ended up with him killing his wife wife turns out he was tasked with destroying one but he ended up bombing the soldiers sent in to clean it out this included his wife which showed that he made a tough choice in order to save Innocents he felt like those people they needed a chance which is something that he wants to impart Rick Nowa for destroyed his chances of going back because he felt like the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few this idea of liquidating cities is also something we've seen in the show with Atlanta being bombed in the very early episodes the other main character Thorn is just like Rick except she's chose to walk the opposite path to him like him her love is out there in the world but she's accepted that she's never going to be back with them Rick represents a true feeling of Hope and that is's someone who's never going to let go I did wonder if the title the ones who live would be twisted to the ones who love because that's what the series feels like it's trying to tell us the title also pulls from the finale of course and it's something that the characters uted during those final scenes we are the ones who live we're the ones who live we the ones who live live thees live either way Rick fantasizes about leading a normal life with Michonne and how the pair might have met in an alternate World they talk at a park bench and see each other frequently which leads to them asking if she'd be all right if he proposed it's something that they've done throughout the show at several points with seeing visions in which things played out differently yeah it's just a nice touching moment that allows you to see why Rick's desperate to escape to me this is one of the most important aspects of the episode because I'm someone who would just be like stick with the CRM mate got Walking Dead on TV there now we need to know why Rick needs to get back and he pours over phones with her and his daughter's pictures on it it's also important to bear in mind that Rick doesn't know he has a son as he was born after Rick left now the PA both talk about how they're stuck somewhere they don't want to be which in this alternate world is thought to be a job how it highlights that they're stuck in these situations that means Rick has to get back to her now that includes him pushing through his do thought and I think it's really well handled from the start now okaf for takes Thorn and Rick to the side and tells him that he kind of wants to recruit them turns out that there's three large cities full of people which are Omaha Portland and lassy the Civil Republic this used to be Philadelphia and it's some OA 4 has connections too you might also notice the lugger for them is three rings with these three rings representing these three cities the episode is mention of Omaha being destroyed with the world Beyond revealing that the CRM did it we don't know why but it's clear they'll do bad things for what they see as good and Oka for I think describes it perfectly he says in order to beat monsters that they have to make sure they don't become them and that he needs good people that he can rely on he also brings the concepts of A's and B's which is something we had teas throughout the main show however until now we didn't know what it meant but Oka for breaks down the true meaning now he explains that that A's are basically Alphas who are strong people that will die for what they believe in bees are your betas which are everyday people just trying to survive now we discover that a a kill because they could disrupt the order and this is why Jadis kept correcting it that Rick was in fact a B I have a b not an a I never had an a he's H but he's strong can you help him still though Rick wants to escape but this doesn't go too well faking his death he then gets to a manhole but he's pulled back when he sees a little girl's in trouble this girl isn't too dissimilar from his own daughter who is is it just me or does she look a bit like Shane I see a resemblance there um but this some muchat shows Rick values others above himself huge shout outs to Ryan are at screen Crush which I hate shown them out but he pointed out that they also use a look I'll let him tell it during Rick's attempt to escape on the mission at the chemical plant we see The Return of the grenade now in season one of The Walking Dead Rick takes the grenade off this dead soldier that grenade is later used to help Rick and the group escape the CDC oh now it's fitting that we're seeing the return of a grenade to help Rick Escape in the season 1 finale Dr Jenner thought that he knew what was best for Rick and his family he made that choice for them that they would stay there with him and die but Rick convinces Jenner that they deserve a chance and this parallels the theme of choice and freedom that we he discussed in this episode they put me on a leash when we went out into the world I couldn't get away I couldn't get back to you I was trapped you think I went when I went through did what I did to let anyone choose anything from me people can't leave they're not free and now here we are all these years later and it's Rick Grimes as the soldier and he's yet again opting to use a grenade to help him escape the clutches of somebody who is seeking to control his future what what are you doing showing up in my videos who do you think you are shut the up Ryan AR I th tells Rick that oao knows things about him and that night he confronts him while he's in bed he Reveals His past and still sees the goodness in Rick because he's someone that could have easily escaped still though he but someone else's needs above his own and this makes him perfect CRM material he believes that they're going to save the world which in the end will benefit those he loves more than if he's with them he's not fighting with them but he's still fighting for them which is a really interesting aspect to add into the show also forgot to mention how Rick got this sweet metal hand Now with an Assassin's Creed Blade that pops out like chabal now Rick seems somewhat won around by this and he has his own history that links in with this Rick's father set a fire at their form which caused a lot of harm but in the end helped them out they were facing Financial runers of family but doing this is what saved the farm thus he ended up sharing some kinship with this and he burns the phones with their pictures put on them he says that he no longer sees their faces anymore which also just supposes the end of the main show I don't see the dead anymore or the ones I lost I think of the Dead all the time this symbolizes he's accepted his mission and we get a time lapse where he sets up a new base which we learn is right beside Portland I feel like the CRM may also end up destroying that but that's a little du time du time du time for another time I go back in time now a character I haven't mentioned so far is Major General Beal who's played by none other than your boy John Lock yeah that's right the guy's name is John Lock and you'll know that recognize him from Lost which he was such a cool actor to bring into the show here we are with some TV royalty and I can't wait to see what he cooks up in the season is okaf for up to anything I should know about now those first 10 minutes they were a banger and the final 10 minutes I think they're just as good we see Rick flying out on a mission when all of a sudden [ __ ] hits the fan okafo is hit with a rocket that then explodes and the Cho of the r comes crashing down we have no idea what's going on though and we see his house from the crash site or are slowly handled in the background when I could see that gleam of the sword though I knew may I knew what was happening and we end with michon and Rick finally United it's a bit of sweet moment as they get to be together but we also don't know what it is they've opened up Beal is now no doubt hunting them which could open up further issues down the line as Oka for said they know where they picked him up and that the people he cared about won't be too far thus if they roll through they could cause more trouble and I doubt they'll be happy about losing their Chopper and their men so Beal he's going to be angry cuz if they keep going then he's got nothing left hey been saving that been saving that one all in all L I apologize for being annoying because the jokes are a bit crap H but it tops off what's a brilliant episode and I just had to make this video to talk about the Sentry everything from the acting to even just the score it all feels really well put together just some little notes the bo yeah phenomenal episode and this feels like a step up from the other spin-offs I think there is the worry with The Walking Dead that it's kind of past its peak and we're now just milking it for all that it's worth you can definitely see why that criticism is valid as the quality has been up and down the last couple of years here though I think this was Stella and it's brilliant seeing Andrew Lincoln back you kind of forget how much he nailed the role originally and watching him return it just brings it all back this is a cruel world where everyone's part of a team but you can also see how they're all just out for themselves each character has their own wants and needs and I loved seeing the Dynamics and how it all played out I think we're going to see friends become enemies which is such a cool thing to do and it all feels like it's getting set up really well here all in all this was a great first start and I'm guessing next week that Michonne's going to take the focus I do want to return to the series but I don't know if I'm going to do it weekly just because of time reasons um and I'd rather watch the episodes and then decide from there if I've got the time to handle it however I will be back for that finale for de and I hope you keep an eye out on the videos that we post obviously I'd allow to
