welcome back to pole bar garage today we will be correcting history and riding the wrongs of the past Mercury never received a kruck they never got a Ranchero we're going to fix that with this 1972 Grand Marquee this car was owned by Derek vice grip garage he drove it home on seven cylinders smoking like a freight train sold it to somebody up in Minnesota who fixed most of the mechanical issues of the car and then drove it here and traded me for my grand priest so this car is actually kind of a pile of crap not going to lie you know it's not good I don't really know what to do with it the interior is extremely nice in here with the exception of the dash uh the seats are great and the headliner pretty good under the hood we have a high compression 460 uh so the guy I got it from fixed the oil burning issue with some valve seals and it seems to run pretty good now it's got petronics ignition in it needs some carb work it needs some brake work it is functional and he did drive it like 4 and 1/2 hours here so how bad can it be uh I've driven it a little bit since it seems fine to me so let's modify it once again I'm starting a video off in the rain in a storm so let's get this turd in the [Music] garage what you see before I uses standard Ford or sedan Mercury Grand Marquee I have in my hand a top secret document classified blueprint as you can see on the document here we're going to cut the C pillar of the car and move it here I haven't really gotten all the way through the the the technicalities of this but I it just looks to me like like I mean other than the fact that it's actually a lot shorter and now I'm starting to second guess myself but other than those things I don't see any reason why we don't just cut the car right here cut this about right here and then just move it forward boom truck at the end of the day here I'm going to say that this engine's probably winding up in my Torino cuz it's a high compression 460 with Dove heads but in the meantime we have a lot of mulch we need to haul and I obviously have no other trucks so we just have to make our own so I I think I should save as much of this trim as possible I think we're going to need it to not that my cuts aren't going to be perfect but we might need to disguise some of them so saving this trim is a priority and not breaking the back window is also a priority so we're going to have to be very careful I've got my line here I'm going to cut here I very carefully and precisely Mark that with this screwdriver and uh yeah that's this is going to work fine I don't know why Ford never did this well as I was saying we really don't need this STP it's on there better next oh somebody glued it this car has been through some stuff it's about to go through a whole lot more very gently taking this off it's very uh fine everything's St everything's fine why keep turning the camera on like I'm going to destroy it or anything it's everything is just going swell so easy to remove this trim I mean really frankly and it it could do it cricket chirp quit filming so I can look professional damn it oh yeah all right got roll the windows down very this a pretty high quality car I'm not going to lie oh we have to weld the do shut too huh so we' got our precise uh imaginary line drawn here and it's going to be oh right about [Music] here I should sit on the parts I'm not cutting off that went quick yeah I think I'm only to need a few of those we're probably going to need all those extreme death wheel change that's right I know how to do basic things [Music] [Applause] [Music] mhm it's got to be pretty close I think we're to the point where we need to remove the seat package tree and these little cards back here so we can see uh what bracing is holding this on I I do have to be a little bit careful about how we cut this out I need to retain probably as much of that bracing as possible so it's not all floppy really nice back seat out there we go ah build sheet no mouse Nest hey look the outside h on the inside does anybody need a seat for one of these let me know look at that that's the build sheet for the car oh cool September 1971 very cool that would be worth something if the car was any other car why those are self tappers Factory self tappers and everybody makes fun of me for using them but guys that's this is how cars were built for like ever it's best my favorite okay so new idea okay no idea we cut right here right below the window okay yeah cuz we won't use that cuz we need like a behind the seat area you know like a truck I like it you know we're deviating from the blueprint slightly it's okay see that that is looks like a bunch of used Rags wrapped in a plastic bag or foam no it's not even foam it's just Rags wrapped in a bag that's the sound deing that's the extra quality you got when you bought a mer back in the day [Music] mhm behold the beginnings of the truck bed going to have to recut through here I think now that this that extra brace is out of the way I can reach through and I'm getting I'm getting pretty close obviously I think we're on to something oo it's real close damn close isn't it not sure what I'm missing back there we will have to cut some of the side structure out as well but uh I just want to eyeball it first so we just got to get this off and with surgical Precision I'm practically a brain surgeon trust him he's a doctor why does this thing smell like gas so bad did I cut something that I shouldn't have it's kind of stinky just figured the shop always smokes gas I don't know you aren't right [Applause] but I did it say it for you behold your Genius yeah sometimes my genius amazes myself what what the hell oh oh I can see it now here if you come hear him oh as you can clearly see that that part needs cut prely hand me the saw yes yes yes I have done it there we go y okay yeah it's it's a rough idea but it's it's kind of what I was thinking so I have accurately marked both sides right there that's where I want it the thing is we need to match the angle of this dangle to this dangle and we're going to cut the brace off of this that way it can lay down [Applause] flat and that's how you remove the vinyl top anyway we'll see you next time on P bar garage look at all the emblem it's okay hold this car is too nice to tear up not tearing it up I'm making something amazing got to peel this off I wouldn't want the roof to us look at this absolutely Peach of an automobile here what a gy it's worthless you count the doors 1 2 3 4 and then measure the length of it it's worthless it's worthless if it was a I don't know a cyclone spoiler GT yeah I probably wouldn't turn it into a El Camino behold the Nibbler Nibbler the Nibbler shall make quick work of [Music] this headliner repair done easy hold bar garage see you next time oh my God it's going to work yes your scientific measurement was like perfect it's a little different on this side than that side but you can only see one side at the time yeah I would like to see it move further forward we're going to make an on the-fly manufacturing change here so uh we need to cut this SE pillar uh partially here so when it moves up to we see how little of the C pillar I have left here that's going to look more truck like you know it's going to be a long bed so uh this has it sits not bad but we can do better we're going to cut it here like this not the emblem Dalton oh no oh those numbers matching yep you're cheating I know this is how you doom a project meure it's going to screw it all up somewhere right up there yeah that's great is it good oh yeah that's a lot better that's more like a truck we could always go more though there yeah we could go up another 6 in probably yeah cuz anything that is open here it's just waste we're losing mulch space precious mulch space and this Baby's Got truck suspension basically you know I mean she ought to hold four yards of mulch no problem we need to get this as close to that b pillar as possible we definitely cut that a lot more we're going to have another problem with the inner structure here but I like where this is going we may run into troubles with this whole rear brace in it we got to take this guy outz he's hitting for sure we'll just take the whole damn thing out who needs it really I'm going to remove it flip it upside down and then I can use a cut off wheel to be a little more precise in my cut since we're getting close to the glass now I'm going to cut this down to make it a little more manageable [Music] I'm sure we'll need this it's a good piece of metal well it's upside down and it didn't break delicately remove this in my very organized and easy to work in Works Space here ah Fresh Off The Grill this is going to allow us to suck that up pretty close I just got to duplicate it over there thanks to our highly Advanced design mechanism here I I think this is it also it is it's pretty much as much as we can cut off so obviously this has a few problems with it uh about a hands width worth I think the back of the roof is just shorter so what we'll do is probably use some of the metal we cut out put it in here and just kind of extend this down a little bit so to hold it in place I'm going to shoot some self tappers across the front of this these are stainless so they don't rust you see how well I prepped that underneath there just as well as Ford did it's a custom car it's going to SEMA they said I'm not allowed there for some reason I don't know why I think we've got a plan worked out see if I push down here then we could just tie this to the top of the door and and we can tie the front of it to the B pillar there and therefore I don't really think it needs a brace back here we'll put a wall in it to separate the bed from the cab that that'll provide enough structure I think I'm going to have to remove these door panels extreme door lock removal I better get a shot of whoa we just weld it to the window that's how that works right to the glass yeah that's good idea all right good thing you didn't break that no I'm just going to leave it in there I don't feel like pulling it I've placed this with Marksman like accuracy so I will now shoot a drywall screw into each B pillar so I will now shoot a drywall screw to the B pillar remember kids we have the power of fiberglass on our side and we will be able to make this look perfect is God damn it dude what that one that one went right [Music] in yes sixcess screw you Sesame streak well we will now use the car to f fill this hole in the car is just make this roof sail out of this uhhuh we'll cut big and then reduce as needed fantastic I'm going to tie it into the B pillar here for [Music] strength who almost got the [Music] window so the trunk on this thing is so damn huge it's basically a truck bed already so if we just leave the top of the quarter here then I can finish out the top of the quarter all the way to the cab we just cut right here and then I'm going to cut across here and we'll try to make a little tailgate or something I don't know why it won't cut straight this is in the way it might stay in the way it will continue to easy now I can continue butchering this it's so Cy we'll need this for later one two the classic Square Peg and round hole scenario never been good at this [Music] game Behold The Merc Mero or Merino Merino for sure the Merino is born that is an 8ft bed that never has to be made I've been ping about a little bit got all the stuff out of the trunk therefore revealing the absolute lack of trunk uh that is like just a skin of metal uh and then the custom bodyw work you know in there which I strongly approve of we're going to put a wall on the back for the cab and then we need to make some panels uh that stretch from here to here to finish off the top of the bed rail and then we can really start on body workor the biggest piece of metal I have at my disposal is the trunk lid from the car so let's take as much of that as possible and then we'll put that in we're probably going to have to scab in another piece or two for it yeah didn't exactly come off clean Mercury really glued these things on that's right glued it on because that's how cars were put together in Star peeling up some of the sound dader to uh so we can put the wall in here underneath the sound deer was this Penny from 1970 looks brand new and also a button kind looks like button off of work pants or something like that kind of cool it's probably been in here for 50 [Music] years oh God all through the I'm going to cut this drive shaft up out [Music] first not bad we're going to have to attach this to this somehow so we're going to leave enough on top so we can complete the no weld process and just you know Screw the whole thing together get this halfway centered here we go now I think I can just bend that over portable metal brake here you know bend that over a little bit everyday in the body shop you [Music] know ah Perfection um yeah well maybe not so much little expandable foam we'll get this fixed up no problem we got to make some pieces for the ends here and I think the pieces I cut off the top are just about right to fill that Gap they are then we'll cover the top of this with something I'm not sure what yet probably that mercury out there also the gold LTDs on the trailer cuz the fuel pump died in it unfortunately in the interest of keeping that vehicle all Mercury let's scab it the Hood from this Mercury I was going to do it out here but of course it's raining because it can never not be raining here so let's just uh drag this up thank you Mercury we appreciate your sacrifice we rest in peace $15 Harbor Freight angle grinder you can see here that we're going to cap the top of the door and the quarter panel both sides and we're just going to need to make a slide adjustment here we're going have to put some kind of relief cut in there to let this kind of fold two directions but we'll get there when we get there I'm going to notch both sides with the Nibbler and then we'll bury the entire thing in short strand fiberglass and you'll never see it got this kind of bent over the side here like a truck bed and uh we got to get this tied in up here it's not going to be pretty well you know fix the rest with expandable foam I mean uh weld mhm now gently persuade this one well look at that starting to look mercho is or mer Camino Merino I don't know yet it it's kind of working guys I have a little imagination I had to pull that out just so I can see what it looks like and also so I can sweep all the metal debris off the floor but it's just roughed in of course but holy cow it's it's kind of cool I love it well you know we're going to have to turn this baby into a twood door cuz these doors don't do anything anymore and you could weld this up but you know the car's got a fuel leak and you know I can't fix that so little just fill these gaps with expandable foam and then we'll fiber glass over it and you'll never know oh man it's all missing down here because it's such a pristine nice car man oh we'll just take a page out of whoever did this car the first time and do it [Applause] again see we just seal all this in for uh insulation you know unfortunately this being a four-door the seat doesn't fold so you know it is what it [Applause] is there we go oh yeah shaving the doors you know you know how it goes now it looks like it's about doe for another coat huh about 40 years later I guess they just don't make them like they used to yeah just a little bit left here then we'll just fiberglass the door handles into the car we couldn't just take them out well what then I'd have to make a patch panel oh yeah that's right and there's already a perfectly good patch panel right here yeah good news uh the car has air shocks uh bad news the tank has a pretty good size rust hole in it I'm going to guess and the worst news the frame is gone back here um see and this is why I should have never looked you see mhm we'll just fill that foam it'll be fine our foam has cured nicely so I will just take a knife and uh gently remove the outermost layer and really all the foam's going to do is just kind of support the glass so that it has something to hold it up as it cures to the metal uh and also what it will do is rot the car out slowly over the next 20 years but let's be serious there's no way this car is living that long anyway here oh there's part of the old body work oh we'll have to fix that but [Music] uh went ahead and got the B pillars knocked down and bare metal going to have to do the same to the roof uh before we do that I'm going to go ahead and recess uh these door handles you'll see how in just one momentto so this is sticking out a little bit it's almost like it expanded behind it for some reason I don't know obviously nothing to that this is all pop metal so it'll grind very [Music] easy smoothed yeah this side's nice and smoothed out but I got to tell you guys um this thing is going to prove interesting to attempt to fix quickly um considering this I mean that's it's the door oh God I I was hoping to just spot putty all the cracks but I don't think that's going to be possible this I went ahead and fix that missing rocker [Music] it's about go time for some short strand fiberglass and all short strand fiberglass is is a body filler with coarser strands of fiberglass most body filler is fiberglass or polyester uh and this is just fiberglass reinforced there's bigger chunks in it you wouldn't want to paint right over the stuff it kind of soaks up but it's extremely strong and waterproof what I'm going to do is coat every single seam in that and it's going it'll be strong and it will last we'll put a thin layer of regular body filler over the top of it and hos to God it will hold up pretty well uh if you had actually welded this in or used panel Bond or done anything that I didn't do it would probably last forever we'll probably start down here start down low and then work our way up got my fiberglass here I'm going to put the Catalyst in so like this now I don't know how much you're really supposed to put in on honestly I just eyeball it at this point I think the old saying is a quarter for every dollar something like that you know like a quarter size drop for a dollar bill size amount of filler mix it in and once you mix it in it is go time it will start hardening immediately so you've got a limited amount of time to start working and we're just going to slather this baby up Good by door handle my friend Jim the inevitable Jim has expressed interest in this car and had I known that before I started I would have put a lot less effort into it wrap that new B pillar in I'm basically Bob Ross of body Butchery or no mistakes just Mighty little accidents it wouldn't matter if you welded it or didn't weld it if you didn't use short strand glass over your seams or anything that's deeper than about a credit card thickness uh you're you're going to have problems down the road short strand glass is a necessary component of any body work and anybody who tells you different I don't know if I'd believe him I could have been one of those Greek guys sculpting the nudie dudes you know the uh what's that one the one that looks like he's taking a dump The Thinker yeah the body my trigger let that fiberglass set up it's so wet and humid out here it's taking a minute might as well just go ahe and repair this H we run covert a loud proud here we go loud and proud God bless Nebraska now also I don't want to alarm anybody but I'm almost out of this box of 200 self-tapping screws thanks to the everybody that sent in self-tapping screws got like 1,200 [Music] that Thunder or did something fall off the roof no something fell off the roof oh all right we're going to go three layers on this bad boy uh for uh for strength and that's what it's all about really oh God coming w oh oh no oh you beat the blood W no it's all full you know a [Music] sh perfect paint right over that I needed reinforcements to help with the body workor on this thing so I called in my dad to help me knock out some of it look like it's going to be a car well or a truck it's like can't believe you bought good Bondo I went ahead I got that pounded back up mostly oh yeah but I still had to put some hair on it to God that hair is horrible oh it's awful I got it on Clarance at Walmart like 10 years ago I figured what I'll do now is I got it all ground down to kind of a shape that just lay a first coat down renock everything back down and then we can put a final coat on it are you making a pizza or bar this is just spot [Music] putty everybody watching me do this goes oh my God he put that right over the paint have you looked at the car this kind of body work is not something to be proud of I got to peel all the alligator skin off the side of this I tried to flatten out as much of the alligator skin as possible while dad started to sculpt this into the shape of a Kat [Music] truck with Dad I's powers of Butchery combined we were able to make serious progress on this car in just a matter of hours my dad's going to keep sanding that first coat of mud I'm going to try to make some bed panels from some leftover plastic from the station wagon project I think we just make some inside bed panels out [Music] this side's ready for a final coat of mud and that door handle actually turned out fairly decent I know it's not bad at all a little skin cut of mud the whole thing will make it blend a lot better than what it looks like right now yeah yeah but it's still not that bad final mud everything's kind of roughed up for paint well primer this side of the car or all that whatever the hell happened to this thing is going on I'm just going to take some glazing putty or icing and uh fill all of it all the way down the side then block it down and it'll be gone for 6 months or so this stuff is just really really finely chopped up body filler basically easy to coat easy to sand little bit goes a long [Music] ways so I'm going to knock down this kind of final coat of mud obviously if you wanted this to be nicer you would knock this down prime it block it a few times but really there's not that much mud in here knock it all down with 80 grit on an 8 in da and then I'll come back through with my board file and we'll get it all nice and flat [Music] [Music] man this is a lot of work guys that I just honestly is too boring to show you all of it but uh we're getting there this roof is rough as a COB uh the only way to do this really would be to coat the whole thing front to back and I just run it out of filler and I think I have a better idea anyway uh we'll see what it looks like under paint but we could put a vinyl top back on this and by vinyl I mean bedliner the rest of it's not bad I just been using icing filling in some spots here and there you're really not supposed to do it that way but you know I'm not going to spend too much on supplies for this this is of course a 20 footer at best but a neat 20 footer you know and something you could do in your garage you know I just out here having fun this is this is just fun for me you know I'm not taking it very seriously but you know what can you knock out in 2 or 3 days you guys have seen me do good body work and paint and about as best as I could do and it took like 6 months because that's how long it takes uh it's going to look just fine really hoping we get in primer tomorrow morning and maybe paint tomorrow night I'm going to keep knocking down the spot putty and all that stuff maybe start masking it's like my least favorite thing to do I pulled the car or truck or whatever the hell it is out blew it off with some air out of the air compressor and then swept the floor and then realized that I swept the dust back onto the car so I blew it off again and then pulled it back in and Jess and I masked it the rest of the night and uh she was ready for primer the next morning it's not perfect but not bad for 2 days to work to get this far couldn't done without my dad of course helping out but you know that not bad not bad at all I'm pretty I'm pretty happy about this good morning let's get some primer shot on this thing hopefully it sets up and we can sand it and maybe spray tonight I don't know uh I bought a gallon of primer turns out I shouldn't have of course I had almost a whole gallon left over so I'm going to burn up all my old stuff first that way it doesn't work very good let's take all the risks that we can last time I at Harbor Freight they had a bunch of paint guns on clearance this is a low volume low pressure never sprayed with one so uh let's figure out how that works cool I didn't mean to buy it but it was like eight bucks so what the hell let's try I have leftover upole urethane primer it's a 2K primer meaning one component and then two components for the hardener and I really like this stuff it's a good quality primer and it's fairly affordable it's actually cheaper than lacquer primer we're going to mix this 4: one and uh maybe use a little bit of reducer it's kind of chilly today so we'll use a fast reducer you can see the temperatures there we're right in that range I don't know how old this stuff is but it looks perfectly fine so try to burn some of this up clear up some cabinet space that is four parts primer to one part catalyst so it's pretty thick yet so we'll go ahead and dump some reducer in it I'm just going to eyeball it till it looks like it just drips right off of that stick I went one full part of reducer in there and it looks pretty good uh that's not normal so I'm going to say that primer is pretty old and we probably shouldn't scrape the bottom of that can but hey at least we can get one cup gun out of it it's running through the strainer pretty good don't like this cup design basically what this is going to do is hermetically seal itself once that dries so this may be a onetime use gun actually I know it's a onetime use gun this may be a one cup gun use gun so you should always start by covering your Body Work First uh however I've been playing with this already trying to figure out how it works and uh it really paints like a lot um that's about as good as I can get it and it's like one coat coverage out of this kind of good for primer I'm not going to lie uh I don't need it but I can get this whole thing painted in 5 minutes flat I don't know I've never painted with a gun like this before what a piece of so that now has the equivalent of probably 10 coats of primer on I'm almost out of primer what the hell I'm really not even upset with this cuz we got a lot of stuff that needs buried here this will do it I got a dialed in a little bit better I don't mean to alarm you but I think that the Harbor Freight $8 low volume low pressure gun may not be the best example of that technology also yeah I'm not wearing a mask for 30 seconds while I talk to you on the camera when the camera's off or when it's time Laing I have a mask on I'll be fine settle down I've tried turning the volume down I've tried atomizing it it just did not going to work very [Music] good I actually got runs down the side of this going to be a lot of sanding but plus side basically it'll be block sanded all in one switching up to the crappy Harbor Freight gravity feet cuz maybe that's better I don't know I hate these things too but I'm not willing to use my good paint guns with this old crappy primer see these things have the exact opposite problem they don't put out enough material that's why they get orange peely when you paint with them tell you what I think I got a good one finally usually I hate these things but this is a good one it only took me like 10 tries I kind of like this gun I'll keep it around well there we go obviously there is a ton of primer on this car that's not a bad thing that's high Build primer so we'll block it all with 180 and then we'll also hit it with 400 and then we can just paint right over it we've we've skipped like three steps thanks to the amount of primer that has been applied here doesn't look that bad I mean other than the fact that it's absolutely hideous it doesn't look that bad I got some other things I got to do around here involving the 60 Ford station wagon uh make sure you check out the those videos if you haven't we're going to leave for Texas in like 6 days 5 days I got to get exhaust tomorrow so uh I need to fiddle with it a little bit so also check out pobar merch.com really appreciated that's what keeps the lights on as long as I'm selling enough merch we don't have to do the corporate sponsors and stuff like that I I don't really like doing that so I mean I'll only do products I believe in and there's just not that many of them so it makes it kind of hard I'm going to go mess with that we'll come back and and sand this later well it's been quite a while about 6 hours and I it's about as ready to sand as ever uh it's not good where that gun sprayed so thick it's just really it's not gummy to the touch or anything but it's Clogg in my sandpaper real bad but on the flip side there's a ton of it on there so we'll be able to block it and get it nice and smooth that'll be pretty cool we're skipping multiple steps here and if you've watched the channel before you've seen quite a few tutorials on body work check those out if you really want to get in depth other than that I'm going to get to sanding the key to getting anything to look good is blocking all your body work is done right here so you want to keep your sander flat or use a block and also keep it flat or you could use a board file and it go a lot faster but I forgot to buy 10080 grip board file it's blocking really nice normally you throw a guide coat down so you actually can see what you're doing I wouldn't want the guide coat to interfere with the paint and since we're not going to be priming it again this is our really our only option I got to keep reminding myself that this is not going to be perfect and it's not actually real body workor we're like on the precipice of being real bodyw work but we're not there I got I got to keep rebinding myself if not go too [Music] far well we're all 180d uh there's a lot of filler showing through a lot of broken through spots and normally that would be a big no no like do not paint over that however in this case we're going to completely ignore it because I just don't really care an effort to eliminate sand scratches we're going to use some red Scotch Brites those are equivalent of 360 GD sandpaper apparently I think it's a little finer than that and that's going to help get in you know some of these pores and stuff and get it roughed up so the paint will actually stick we're just going to smooth out what's here with the scotch bright it's going to leave a pretty nice surface and uh I don't know I'm going to call it ready for paint even though it's uh really not ready for paint so it's scuffed we kind of raped up some edges you should never ever ever reuse your masking paper or tape from primer to paint so I'm going to go ahead and do that I think we're going to go ahead and try to spray it tonight in a little bit of a time crunch to get this video out so that's all right you can pull it off I'm going to pull it out out blow it off wet the floor down in the shop and then start hosing it down with whatever tractor paint I have in my cabinet the floor is nice and wet the idea of that is any dust left in here will be attracted to the floor uh as for the bugs well it's springtime and it's night time and I always paint at nighttime and I always get lots of bugs now there's no correlation there I'm going to go and pull the car back in we're going to wipe it down with wax and grease remover Chuck's arrived he's about to turn into part of this car we'll see if it survives this this is a wax and grease remover and prep all is the name brand that I call it by a lot of times but just a wax and grease remover wipe the the whole car down with it you bu cheuck so you don't work too much at a time work about this hood is gigantic so do about a half of it you wipe it on wet and you take a dry one follow up wipe it off with that in the ideal world you would use lintree towels or cut up T-shirts because this is the real budget channel in my cabinet I had about 3/4 of a gallon of white I don't remember why oh the cop car and it's still really good however white would I know too much just too much white so I have this quart of gloss new cat yellow caterpillar yellow here that's almost an orange or gold so I think when I pour this in here it's probably going to turn into a pale yellow of some sort oo this will be a free paint job or it'll turn brown oo behold flesh no not really it's kind of a pale yellow it's kind of like jaice flesh I think it'll look okay it'll look kind of like a factory 60s color so we're going to go eight parts paint one part Catalyst and then also probably about 10% reduced is my usual go-to I'm I have some random catalysts here I'm just kind of burning up what I had in my cabinet so uh this may turn out bad it may turn out good we don't really know yet oh yeah that's reacting a lot that's good that's really what you don't want to see at all oh oh God you stir in there you just you just get made right at home in there too thick you can tell by the way it's running off of the stick much much too thick we'll reduce with Napa not a lot just a little probably something like that what we want it to do is flow nice and freely through a paint strainer into our cup running r right through that strainer might be a hair thin actually that's good to go I'm going to go ahead and mix up another cup so I'm ready to go when I run out of this one and then let's go see if we can turn this into the flesh rocket all right let's see what we're work with I'll start back here where it doesn't matter little bit thin hold pressure out of it a little bit now I kind of like it yeah it's like I don't know almost I don't know what I was calling very 60s pretty cool [Music] I just realized something this car has a red interior oh no what did you do oh God hell yeah it's the Mac Camino what the MC Merc Camino oh my God it's a mcdino it's a MCD double [Music] I'm not trying to cover it I'm not trying to turn it yellow all I'm trying to do is give my next coat something to hang on [Music] to can't even see those isense plates no [Music] [Applause] that's one cat Adam just under one cup gup very good coverage out of that uh we want it to tack up and flash off then we'll come back for a second coat it's already drying I mean like it's ready to go so going to go ahead and put on a nice wet coat well more like a medium coat uh for our second coat what we want to do now is cover everything we want to make sure the car is yellow and it has some gloss to it the thing with tractor paint or any single stage paint is it's going to look like exactly how you shoot it so if you shoot it on dry it's going to be dull you shoot it on wet it's going to be shiny but don't get runs good thing is it's plenty warm out a little bit of humidity helps uh so I I think we're in good shape and this paint is very cooperative for some reason there goes a pre- filter so what I'm going to do here is I'm going to lay it on a little wetter as you're spraying your paint you're going to see an edge that's shiny that's called the wet Edge ch that edge you want to maintain that but not too much so the paint just runs off the [Music] side all right that's good enough for the second coat uh we're going to have to come back and hit it with a little bit more wetness to it on our final coat but we'll get there [Music] [Music] final coat here and I thinn the hell out of this you see I got a good fan now that was a little thick before so hopefully this shines so if it doesn't this is what it's going to look like [Music] not too chabby for you know homegrown tractor paint gets rough I mean it is definitely a 20-footer but it's kind of cool the inevitable McDonald's paint Scheme that's coming I I didn't really think about that that kind of sucks but you know whatever it's it's shiny and it's yellow and it's you drive this down the road I would not be embarrassed at all to drive that well I would be a little bit embarrassed to drive it but not because of the pain every bug in the whole county has landed in this thing overnight yeah wonderful so so uh the roof is probably the worst of it I don't know what the hell landed here but it seems to have melted I guess it is going to get the bed liner treatment on the roof I was actually maybe going to run it but cuz it's it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be you need something to break up this butterscotch mustard color yeah might as well make it the pastel bumblebee mhm we're going to try to put the factory trim back on around the edge may have to get a little creative with it but it would look better at least if it went to here so if we can wrap around the front to there and then we get this molding back on here I think it'll be passable something that ballpark we're missing some of the clips so uh I will of course remedy that with self tappers but I think that's going to look a lot better make our own custom trip for the roof it's full custom going to mark this about where I want it which uh you know is probably about right here with a little bit of an angle on it now I will slowly saw my way through with this X-Acto [Music] Knife I should have shown them the good side I already did the other side it turned out a lot better than this [Music] one you said film the other side so I know or so I look like I know what I'm doing mhm you know what they say about shooting screws into the roof of your car it's a great idea mhm I'm going to use that as a tape line the paint's really too fresh to tape to this will have a little yellow here and the a pillar will be yellow but back here from here down it'll all be black I don't know make a faux vinyl top out of it it's going to work maybe I don't know never done it behold vinyl top in a can I've heard of people doing this I've never done it uh I guess we'll see what it looks like what better thing to try it on Than This plus it'll probably add some much needed strength to the roof final [Music] top wow it actually does look like V have to get the stripes out of it but done going to look pretty good the good thing is over this fresh tank this is uh permanent very very permanent it's going to be pretty cool could use Flex Seal I almost had a sponsor with Flex Seal one time but their lawyers wouldn't let me do I'm serious [Music] this is a lot easier I've done some vinyl tops before this is way better and it won't rot your car why didn't they just do this hopefully it evens out as it dries I think it will it looks pretty good actually uh Color Me surprised so we now have a flesh colored bumblebee great sprayed the rear Vance too looks a little bit better Jess is cleaning out the inside here we'll bed line the bed as you want you know as one does I'm a genius again behold Ronald McDonald's mullet mobile oh so satisfying yes it is I keep getting this strange Gap in the trim it's like there used to be a door here or something no that can't be it went cheaper on the actual bed liner here I bought this rubberized undercoat but here's something to for if it says it's paintable it will actually dry if it doesn't say it's paintable it stays gooey and nasty and you guys know what that's like however I don't know if it's UV resistant so I wouldn't use it on a final top regular bedliner is UV resistant but this should work all right in here yeah right over the phone [Music] there hey jez yeah do me a favor yeah we go find that piece of plywood we have laying around so we can uh just you know fix this real quick yeah absolutely just is cleaning up the interior the bed looks a lot better it's almost passable oh yeah you can really see the McDonald's thing we got going on behold the golden arch I don't know what am I going to call this thing I it's I'm loving it Ronald McDonald's mullet mobile that's what it is yeah I mean if Ronald McDonald was around in the 80s he'd be he'd be trucking Coke in this for sure well that's fixed good to go [Music] not fish my eyes they're burning hang on oh that's way better fish love loves it but you know he's color blind it's not that bad it really isn't it's kind of cool actually is am I wrong for thinking that no what the hell I'm good with it I didn't expect to be but here we are I know like it's not it's kind of neat what the hell who would have ever thought I was just doing this to fill a video turns out it's pretty good [Music] really the only thing I could think we could do with it is uh go get some mulch yeah we got we needed to get some Mulch and I don't have any trucks well except for that one and uh mind that don't mind it nope well and there's two out back well and that one over there too but no this is this is reason this happened just needed some mulch you know well let's see what happens so I've driven this car like once and uh I know the brakes are pretty bad it doesn't drive very good and it doesn't run very good so we fix those problems by turning it into a truck it needs a master cylinder is what it needs that was in the trunk somebody took our trunk away though got to get all this dust blown out really only one way to do that we would want that dust to get in our mulch have we improved the handling characteristics oh yes we have oh it's amazing no not really it's pretty bad it's actually kind of scary um there we go now I think it is a little bit better because we've reduced a lot of weight off the back of the car so maybe it's maybe it's faster yeah hello fellow truck he wishes he is as cool as me I bet he's not getting a load of mulch couldn't hold anything in that piece of crap I've got an 8ft bed that never has to be made what color mulch do we want Brown yes okay we'll go pull over here for now where the hell are we going to put all this in the mulch yeah on top of the mulch we'll be fine everything's great don't worry about it somebody took the trunk away so don't we'll be fine Brown uh probably 20 bags oh [Music] yeah ask you to find us sir who's counting I'm it's so squatted when you accelerate oh yeah it's so behold truck yes better an ax I'm kind of a truck guy I like trucks I like brakes better but I like trucks we were going to go with a scoop of mulch oh cops supicious not turning around we're good oh it rides marvelously yeah so I we were going to get a big scoop of mulch but then we realized that there's kind of in multiple compartments to the bed back here and we would never get the mulch out ever if we didn't buy a bag so we didn't go bulk we just bought bags I know kind of cheated but it is what it is all we got to do is make it home a few miles and uh spread some Mulch and this may I mean I I actually think I might keep the stupid thing I kind of like it I I hate to admit it you're going to break Jim's heart I know I'm sorry Jim I think I need this one so it's Absol absolutely sitting on the bump stops in the back o that started a fun new sound the suspension is totally compressed for some reason oh that's just brakes you don't need brakes to haul stuff we got 460 cubes handling improved even better with weight in the back sometimes my genius is almost frightening and also look at this I mean this road is really bad but straight yeah this thing's great God dang it why' I have to make something useful damn it [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] yeah yeah sir I'd say there's a bit of grass on your trailer hitch why oh no see this is the low deck for easy unloading that's what this is and with that Absolute Total success other brakes are kind of warm I'm going to stand over here but uh total success the Merino or mercero maybe marero the marero is born and functional and I like it a lot actually the hell else do we do with the thing fix some of the mechanical issues maybe let me know if you want to see it uh if you want to cut the roof off of your 1972 Grand Marquee I can send you the the uh plans for eight easy payments of 1995 and uh we'll see you next time on pull Barn garage looks like there might have been a door under there maybe I shouldn't have just filled that with expandable foam and thought it would work oh well at least most people don't watch this part of the video
