is it safe to say that spider-man has the best rose gallery out of any marvel superhero i mean come on who doesn't love to see spidey fight a guy with giant mechanical arms or a guy who dresses up like a goblin or a guy who's just really really really good at magic tricks it's always a treat but what would you say are the most powerful weapons that spider-man villains use to inflict pain on our favorite neighborhood web head come on there's gotta be a ranking right well that's what we're doing today join me as i discuss some of the most creative and the most dangerous gadgets or weapons spidey villain jews in order to confound confuse and just overall hurt spider-man did your favorite make the list let's find out right off the bat let's talk about spidey's most useful ability no it's not a pretty impressive display of sewing prowess in order to stitch his suits together but rather it's his spider sense or as the mcu calls it the peter tingle please do not start calling it my peter tingle yeah not a great name but i guess an accurate one anyway the spider senses peter's best ability it's a tingling at the back of his skull that allows him to sense danger or to know when something's just not right sometimes the sense is open to interpretation where peter will get that special tingle but not quite know what's wrong but if peter really taps into it and focuses it makes it so he can fight without having to open his eyes if he's blinded and can't hear spider-man can still kick your butts by relying solely on the spider sense eventually the marvel universe revealed the true source of the spider-sense as revealed in certain spider-verse stories the spider-sense's technical name is arachno frequency and is related to a cosmic force known as the web of life and destiny basically every spider-man in every universe has an innate connection to the world around them and it's like a web strand across all these different universes are all connected man you think way back in the early days of spider-man comics when they introduced the spider-sense they had any idea that eventually they would tie that power in with the multiverse and cosmic forces and webs of life and destiny that's pretty wild so spider sense is insanely powerful so now let's talk about a weapon that can hurt it and i think the villains that properly know how to counteract that all powerful spider sense are the goblins and mysterio so green goblin hobgoblin and the fishbowl head all have used a type of hallucinogenic gas that not only confuses and disorients spider-man but also makes it so his spider sense doesn't work properly that gives the villains a massive advantage especially for mysterio like if the goblins don't have this weapon they can still put up a pretty solid fight against the webhead but this is something the master of illusions mysterio definitely needs in order to stand a chance because like we saw in the mcu mysterious illusions mean nothing to peter if the hero can use his spider-sense so the hallucigenic gas is key to mysterio's success there are those who are hoping jake gyllenhaal's quentin beck is still alive and if he is he'll need to get his hands on some of this stuff in order to stand a chance next time so on this list i'm going to be talking about a lot of familiar villains that we all know and love but i also wanted to give some attention to some spidey foes who just haven't had their time to shine yet so that's where john jameson the son of j jonah jameson comes into play now this guy has had a rocky time in his life and has basically sent the message to all the little kids who want to grow up to be an astronaut to absolutely not do it because space is pretty scary one of his earlier jaunts through the stars ended when he contracted a space virus that increased his strength and size to superhuman levels he had a specialty jupiter suit made but the virus was hurting his psyche so spider-man had to electrocute that out of him and return him to normal now you could argue that's enough adventure for one lifetime but then marvel writers were like hey you know what let's mess with this character again and in a later storyline jameson was sent to the moon to collect space rocks and accidentally stumbled upon a powerful artifact known as the godstone now here's the real meat of this entry the god stone turned out to be the crystallized power and essence of star god an ancient ruler from another dimension the explanation was that while he was growing weaker and soon would perish star god channeled his energy into this gem and sent it to our dimension and whoever found the stone would transform into the form of star god but the radiation was so weak that the change can only happen when the moon shines on it so yep that's how jon jameson became a man-wolf he felt unnaturally drawn to the gemstone and started wearing it around his neck only to discover that during a full moon he'd transform into a powerful ferocious wolf monster after he realized what was happening jon realized the godstone was fused with his body so he was stuck with this curse until spider-man found a way to help only that didn't last long after various adventures like using the godstone to travel to its home dimension to help the denizens out from being conquered john jameson found the godstone had sunk into his skin and was slowly turning into a malignant organism that was proving to be fatal to him thankfully spider-man was around to help him out again but seriously the godstone should not be messed with so the message again here is if you find a giant glowing gem on the moon just ignore it and move on okay the vulture in the comics really shouldn't be as strong of a villain as he is like he's this old as dirt dude who invents this anti-gravity harness that allows him to fly perfectly and instead of taking it on joy rides across the world to save on air travel he uses it for crime since he's such a bitter man but the harness itself deserves to be talked about in the early days adrian toombs was always upgrading his fantastic invention like after spider-man and vulture's first tussle which ended with spider-man using an anti-magnetic inverter to damage the wings tombs went back to the drawing board and fixed the flaw that's the type of man toombs is and besides just giving tombs the ability to fly silently and with a precise maneuverability the hardness also increases toombs strength which is good because again in the comics he's basically at the age where he should just be eating tapioca pudding in some retirement home somewhere that enhanced strength allows him to survive hits from spider-man i mean how guilty do you think spider-man would feel if while he's fighting vulture he punches tombs in the face once and the old man's skull turns to dust yeah that doesn't sound very heroic the harness that he wears at one point even was able to absorb the life force of tombs enemies when it came in contact with them something that made him an even more powerful villain so given all the soup can do yeah it's pretty powerful now the mcu version of the suit looked awesome but admittedly didn't seem as precise it was incredibly bulky and it would be interesting to see if a vulture ever returns in some capacity if another flight suit will be sleeker that way we can set up an air race between falcon aka the new captain america and the new vulture that'd be fun right one major villain that we've seen teased in the mcu but without any significant payoff is matt gargan aka the scorpion he was present in spider-man homecoming and then teased how he wanted to team up with the vulture at the end but that's all we've seen of him then peter got caught up with dealing with the loss of his mentor and now will have his hands full with fighting returning multiverse villains that i'm not sure they'll have any time for scorpion anymore which is a shame because scorpion is a fun villain so although the character of mack gargan is enhanced with super strength and durability the real draw to this character is when he puts on the scorpion suit and utilizes his powerful scorpion tail to cause damage like i really can't decide if this is the best or the worst weapon in spider-man history i mean for one it's smart to keep your arms and legs free so that you can punch kick grab etc while also having a surprise tail to hurt enemies but on the other hand a tail that big seems unruly and hard to manage but hey if it works for gargan so be it and it seems he's got a good handle on it i mean how couldn't he the scorpion suit helps establish a cybernetic link to the muscles in his spinal column which allows him to activate the tail with mental commands because sure why not originally the tail could swing at speeds over 90 miles per hour and could help launch gargan to certain places and help protect him against attacks which already sounds like a lot to deal with but over the years the tail was upgraded with things like armor poisonous venom electrical blasts laser blasts acid and even mace gas so yeah this is a powerful weapon that easily counters spider-man's dexterity since it moves so darn fast so in case it wasn't obvious jay jonah jameson absolutely hates spider-man and it was only a matter of time before he did something about it he ended up employing spencer smythe to defeat spider-man and this led to a long line of spider slayer robots that were created in order to bring the web head down once and for all so i think that spider slayers are dangerous because they just keep upgrading and evolving like they started with simple designs created by spencer smythe and the slayers were sometimes piloted by jay jonah jameson himself over time as each robot kept getting defeated smythe became more obsessed to create the perfect machine and that led to him be fatally contaminated with radiation poisoning after that spencer's son alastair really stepped up the game not only creating even more dangerous spider slayers but also eventually using genetic experimentation to turn himself into a humanoid version of his robotic creations but of course spider-man stopped him as well overall the spider slayers are just a nuisance and keep making life harder on peter parker like every time he defeats one he's just gotta know that a more powerful one will soon be at his doorstep and he usually can't beat them in the same way twice however the spider slayer is destroyed or whatever weakness it shows the next version will have fixed that flaw what a hassle one controversial villain that i'm not sure we'll ever see in any spider-man film is dr miles warren aka the jackal he is responsible for one of the most controversial storylines in spider-man comics but i'm not really here to discuss that instead i want to devote time to the powerful and dangerous carry-on virus this started as a serum created by warren that was developed from dna samples taken from human donors in an effort to make the new men which are an artificial race of human sized animals look more like human beings good luck with that but of course something went wrong with the serum and turned the people who took it into basically living corpses which is a little terrifying this was a stepping stone for the carry-on virus and over the years this biological weapon kept evolving into different more dangerous strains but something even crazier with this virus is that it led to the villain known as carrion who is basically like a walking talking version of the virus come to life this villain's power allowed him to decay organic material with a single touch and even alter his density so that he could fly or phase through walls all i'm saying is that if this happens in the real world in 2022 then i think that's game over for us guys call me well how's about shocker i've always found shocker to be an underrated spidey villain sure the costume sometimes looks a little bit strange and silly but i just don't think the villain gets enough credit maybe it's because one of the shocker's names was herman schultz i mean with a name like that you either become the assistant manager of a local bank or you become a supervillain i'm sorry those are the only two options yeah shocker usually isn't talked about in the same league as some of the other big wigs in spidey's rogue gallery which is a real shame because i think shocker's vibro shock gauntlets are an incredibly powerful weapon also maybe it's a branding thing because when you hear shocker you expect some electroblasts but that's not the case the gauntlets can project a concentrated blast of air that vibrates at an intense frequency this means that shocker has both a solid long range and short range attack with his punches it also means he can vibrate things in order to weaken the structural integrity which doesn't sound that impressive but imagine he uses the gauntlets against sides of buildings yeah dangerous stuff and the reason his suit looks so funny is that it's actually necessary anyone using the shocker gauntlets usually deals with immense feedback that could seriously injure you so the special suit makes them okay to use and thank our lucky stars we've had two shockers already in the mcu sure one was defeated easily and the other one was disintegrated but uh hey better than nothing alright now we're getting into the heavy hitters there's a reason why doc ock is one of spidey's most formidable foes sure otto octavius is a mad genius with an off the charts iq but he would really be nothing without his mechanical arms it's a classic story scientists invents four tentacle-like arms to help him with science people call him doctor octopus because they don't know how many arms an octopus has a freak accident happens that establishes a mental link between the scientists and the now sort of sentient arms and the rest is history yeah if there was one mechanical based weapon that spider-man could wish away forever it would probably be these arms they're an extreme nuisance to the webhead and really affect the fight like by himself otto is just a kind of small pudgy guy with a huge ego one punch should really send him to the emergency room but the arms provide a perfect barrier for all sorts of danger they can instinctively block bullets they're strong enough to rip people apart and they're all over the place so getting close to otto with spider-man's natural agility and dexterity is often very difficult there's been a few versions of the octopus arms throughout the years sometimes they're made from a titanium steel alloy that are powered by a small thermoelectric generator and other times they're just made from adamantium either way these are extremely dangerous to the webhead of course i got to include the goblin gear on here after becoming infected with the goblin formula norman osborne went on a rampage as the green goblin but it wasn't enough that he was now super strong and super crazy no he also went a step beyond and created a whole hodgepodge of new weapons to ruin spider-man's day like everything in the green goblin's arsenal just give spidey a major headache the goblin glider is a sleek and stylish way to move around the city you know as long as norman doesn't impale himself with it but in his little utility belt he has all sorts of gizmos and gadgets like explosive pumpkin bombs razor bats electro gauntlets and so much more plus he created safe houses all around the city that stores all these dangerous weapons so anyone could just stumble across them i'm looking at you hobgoblin okay even though the symbiotes are living things i do think they're the absolute most powerful weapons against spider-man the main reason is of course venom who spent time as spidey suit and developed an unhealthy bond with him but this connection they formed made it so that venom doesn't set off spider-man's spider sense peter parker's biggest advantage in a fight is now gone against an opponent who's arguably stronger and faster than him so that's really unfortunate if that wasn't enough when venom had his offspring carnage who was even stronger than both spider-man and venom that red symbiote also inherited the ability to not set off the spider sense so yeah symbiotes are probably the most dangerous weapon you can use against spider-man because they'll know the inner workings of spider-man psyche and are oftentimes quite evil that's a bad combination right there 2021 is gonna end with a bang now that we know that alfred molina is returning as doc ock in spider-man no way home so now that we're revisiting spidey villains i think it's the perfect time to decide who his number one bad guy truly is now you're the shocker hi he's been a mainstay as a spider-man villain for years but that hasn't always been a good thing the villain has high-tech gauntlets with vibroshock units those often are shown to be able to generate massive amounts of power capable of obliterating a street while he has bested spider-man many times over the years there's no denying that the character has also been made into something of a joke in one of the video games he was literally taken out with one hit brought this on yourself literally and in the mcu he was terminated by his boss without any ceremony only to be immediately replaced ouch his inclusion in the superior foes of spider-man has made light of this loser image and shown he still has some untapped potential adrian toombs is one of the oldest spider-man villains of all time i mean that in two different ways here for one he appeared in the amazing spider-man number two he's also the oldest villain to fight spider-man the geriatric bad guy took to the skies to become a thief that only spider-man could catch from there he's remained a regular threat in peter's life concocting plans like stealing his youth faking his own demise and joining the sinister six though somehow none of these were quite as terrifying as the movie vulture who was just peter's girlfriend's dad that is a unique kind of terror i mean it's michael keaton so come on sometimes a cool party trick and some serious spycraft is all you need to become a supervillain that's the deal with the chameleon this villain is able to change his appearance like he invented those face masks from mission impossible he's managed to use this skill to get peter in all kinds of trouble over the years hiding as a nice old lady really i know you're actually the chameleon but i just can't from pulling off complex jobs where he could change anyone in a crowd to framing peter using his face and identity the chameleon may not have much in terms of raw strength but he has enough skill to make him an a-list threat it doesn't hurt that his brother craven the hunter also teams up for them from time to time they've practically made this villain stuff a family business every spider-man fan has at least one villain that really resonated with them even if they didn't resonate with everyone else for me that villain was the spider-man doppelganger during the infinity war comic book series a villain named magus created a terrifying take on spider-man that reduced peter to the horrifying inhuman aspects of his character this six-armed mindless beast serves as a grim reminder of the type of monster peter was lucky to not have become there have been multiple attempts at showing off horrifying alternate spider-man concepts such as the spider-man which is just a living combination of hundreds of spiders but spider-doppelganger is the most striking and deadly vermin is one of those spider-man villains who's never broken it big but never needs to originally a captain america villain vermin is another character who's given the enhanced powers of an animal for him that animal is a rat ew this makes vermin as depicted in craven's last hunt a terrifying desperate monster not that dissimilar to gollum from lord of the rings he's shown living in the sewers where he survives by capturing and cannibalizing other people while most spider-man villains are pulpy comic book villains with colorful costumes and zany powers vermin is a disgusting embodiment of human depravity and one of the franchise's most gruesome antagonists to date plus rats are just icky spider-man has a ton of mid-level gangster bad guys like hammerhead or the enforcers the one who i think takes the cake is none other than tombstone this psychotic gangster with super strength and nigh invulnerable skin has plagued spider-man for decades with constant attacks on the other gangs that spidey has found himself in the middle of while there are many villains who stroke sympathy tombstone is just an evil dude who has no loyalty to anyone but himself he's a monster who probably happier breaking spider-man's bones with his bare hands than anything else in the world how have we not seen craven the hunter on the big screen while many spider-man villains are high concept bad guys with complicated powers craven is just a master big game hunter who became obsessed with hunting spider-man down and he's a master acrobat he's highly skilled using dozens of weapons and combat styles each time craven loses a fight he trains harder and harder until he believes he's worthy of finishing the hero for good this is played out in some of spidey's greatest comics craven's best story so far craven's last hunt sees him seemingly succeed in taking spider-man out only to become obsessed with becoming spider-man himself that would make for a great movie marvel just saying the lizard is in many ways a villainous take on the incredible hulk like bruce banner kirk connors was a well-meaning scientist who only wanted to make the world a better place for him he wanted to use lizard dna to find out a way to regrow human limbs unfortunately also like banner this experiment turned him into a monster that he had no control over the lizard became the ultimate personification of conor's cold-blooded lizard brain he's the ancient predator living inside all of us this has gotten more terrifying over the years as the lizard has shed the conor's persona entirely or when kurt's mind was trapped in the lizard's body morbius is another great example of the tragic spider-man villain when michael morbius was experimenting with bat dna he unwittingly turned himself into a blood-sucking vampire this made him into a reluctant villain who had no choice but to attack others to sustain himself this made him a great spidey villain because he can see this being peter in a different universe he was just lucky he got bitten by a spider and not a bat as great as the real morbius is i will always have a soft spot for the censored version from spider-man the animated series for some reason they thought that a vampire who sucked out your plasma through these tiny mouths on his hands wouldn't be as scary and they were very wrong about that we'll see if the jared leto morbius stops them both if we ever actually get to see the movie that is mysterio is one of those villains who became a surprise fan favorite the wizard of oz esque magician phony could have easily been a one-off but he's been continued to hound parker for decades most recently on the big screen to great success it's kind of crazy how accurate the mcu was able to pull off mysterio a fishbowl-headed supervillain who uses movie magic to confound spider-man into a wide array of traps is not an idea that's easily translated in a comic accurate way i've gotta hand it to them though because far from home perfectly captured the menacing quentin back and his illusions while most villains try to beat spidey to a pulp quentin is the one who settles for messing with his very perception of reality itself plus let's be honest gyllenhaal just killed it scorpion seeing as scorpions are natural predators to spiders there was a lot of pressure thematically on the scorpion being a notable addition to the spider-man bad guy army luckily the tragic story of mack gargan the man who was trapped in the anti-spider-man armor by j jonah jameson was worthy of the idea the super-strong metal tail-wielding villain has been one of spider-man's most threatening villains ever since he dropped in the 60s the only problem with him is that he's never really landed on a truly iconic costume they seem to redesign it every single time he makes an appearance maybe the mcu will get it right when their mac gargan finally dons his scorpion armor a lot of villains have tried to come at the goblin title over the years only one has ever managed to live up to the legend roderick kingsley the original hobgoblin there's only room for one of us in this city spider-man and it's going to be the hot goblin this glider-flying menace fought against spider-man for quite a while before his identity was revealed multiple times the one that stuck was kingsley who originally didn't bring superpowers to play but a keen strategic mind and battle hardened skills he and the original green goblin have fought multiple times over the years over really who deserves the title i hope the mcu hurries up with the goblins so we can see this glider fight happen on the big screen that's a lot of pumpkins hydroman in many ways feels like an inevitable spider-man villain he's had multiple bad guys with elemental themes so a water bad guy was inevitable true to form hydroman turned out to be pretty powerful after he was tossed overboard into the water where an experimental device was being tested maury bench discovered that he was living water naturally he vowed revenge on spider-man because of course you do now he attacks peter as a living water cannon it's kind of sad that mysterio made him into a holographic sideshow act and far from home it's really really hard for a new spider-man villain to break into the main ranks of his a-list bad guys the decades have seen some big foes like the swarm the thousand and big wheel completely fading into obscurity i kind of get what happened to big wheel big wheel really one villain who did the impossible and broke into the big time was martin lee or mr negative this vibrant bad guy brought into the street crime tactics of foes like the magia with a giant power level similar to electro's he's able to generate and control negative energy which can be used to create weapons take over people's minds or just unleash huge blasts of power while many spider-man villains have likely seen their best days come and go already mr negative's best days are likely on the way fantastic villain in spidey ps4 one of the most harrowing sequences in all of the x-men films was the one where the sentinels attacked and decimated the generation 1 heroes like they were nothing these all-powerful robotic monsters tore through our heroes like they were tissue paper while spider-man has his own version of that exact same concept with the subtly named spider slayers designed by genius inventor spencer smythe but more notably by his son alistair smythe these increasingly powerful generations of robot spidey terminators have been overwhelming peter since the stan lee days probably the most iconic iteration of them so far has been the ones portrayed on spider-man the animated series where they showed off just how completely spidey could be beaten up on his own show pete sure knows how to take a beating while eddie brock is most known as venom there actually have been multiple venoms over the years the former scorpion matt gargan donned this symbiote for a while before flash thompson used it to become a super soldier out of all of them though eddie is the one who was the most menacing threat to peter parker he was actually teased for several issues before he and peter fought he dropped in to terrify mary jane hyping up his inevitable arrival once they did fight venom became an instant success on par with spidey's other bad guy turned sensation the punisher even when gargan took his mantle eddie was able to rebrand himself as the anti-venom to prove he was the greatest venom of them all early marvel really really loved to feature heroes and villains who were basically personified wrecking balls that ran through buildings like they were made of paper you've got the incredible hulk the unstoppable juggernaut and of course the rhino this charging monster has been one of the mainstays of spider-man comics for an obvious reason every time they fight it really does look like the scrawny peter parker is going to be flattened by rhino at any moment even the latest spider-man miles morales video game started with an extended chase sequence with both spider-man after rhino after he tore through the city like an unstoppable bulldozer if only he didn't have about the same level of intelligence as a bulldozer he probably would be unstoppable not every spider-man villain's power has to do with superpowers gadgets or scientific genius there's one spider-man villain that proves just how threatening institutional power can be wilson fisk aka the kingpin is a criminal mastermind who can manipulate the crime lords governments and supervillains of new york to his cause he might be more known for his epic showdowns with daredevil but it was originally spider-man who was his superhero enemy what's most incredible about fisk is how he's able to come out of pretty much any situation where he's humiliated and defeated publicly only to regain the public's trust again and again i mean after decades of being an infamous super villain wilson fisk recently became the mayor of new york somehow i don't see the rhino pulling that off all of the best spider-man villains are the ones whose powers directly conflict with peter's skillset sandman is the one go-to bad guy example of this i mean spider-man is all about the punches and kicks and webs which are worthless against the guy who's made of sand not only that but sandman is also able to morph his body into any weapon he can think of turning him into a constant shape-shifting monster that peter only has seconds to adapt to whoa talk about split personality spider-man 3 was a movie that didn't really get a lot right but the chilling sequence with a true horror of sandman's existence is spelled out is one of the best moments in the franchise it shows his sadness rage an existential horror that pushes sandman to become one of the fiercest villains peter has ever faced there are several spidey villains who have complex powers and evil inner workings that aren't readily apparent until you understand their decades of history with the wall crawler then there's electro who makes himself pretty clear within seconds of meeting him whether it's in the comics a tv show a movie or a game electro is one of those villains who provides an instant jolt to spidey story with control over electricity seeing a spider-man is a hero who usually relies on coming in close to beat up his bad guys while he mocks them each punch would hurt spidey as much if not more than it would hurt him this means that in every fight the two share peter is forced to use his genius mind to develop new weapons strategies or environmental advantages to take electro down he's the one who pushes peter to his limits faster than any other villain in our rogue's gallery in a world where evil scientists are apparently graduating out of universities majoring in super villainy every single year the jackal is one of the most twisted obsessive monsters the comics have ever seen that's because this expert in cloning didn't use his massive breakthroughs to help humanity but rather to clone one of his students gwen stacy and then her boyfriend spider-man this has led to one of the most psychologically shattering stories where spider-man is forced to grip with the possibility that he might not actually be the real spider-man after all but a clone instead this original clone saga is kind of overshadowed by the much more complex clone saga of the 90s but both showcase just how formidable the jackal really is the green goblin is one of those legendary comic book villains norman osborne was the first pick for a spider-man movie villain and for a reason the insane glider-flying evil genius is responsible for some of spidey's most iconic moments of misery most notably green goblin was responsible for taking the life of peter's girlfriend gwen stacy this was a moment that shocked comic book readers forever and proved that spidey was ready for a new level of maturity norman is also a major threat by himself who's led his own version of the avengers the dark avengers and invaded asgard while there's been no whiff of norman or his alter ego in the mcu thus far you just know he's waiting in the wings you'd think that a guy like the green goblin would easily be peter's sickest foe unfortunately for him the serial killer cletus cassidy was infused with the symbiote that gave him the powers to fulfill his darkest fantasies you see venom's huge popularity pushed him closer to an anti-hero than a proper villain so they needed to give both spidey and venom a villain that could make venom look heroic by comparison events like maximum carnage featuring carnage's ferocious offspring and absolute carnage which features a resurrected carnage who is more or less a god proves that carnage is capable of becoming an avengers level threat so i hope you invited spider-man for that sequel tom hardy you just might need him moreland may not have a big movie appearance not yet anyway but that hasn't stopped him from consistently proving to be one of spider-man's most vicious foes over the last few decades unlike the other small-time crooks that peter foils from accomplishing their evil plans morlin is an ancient being that seeks to destroy and consume all of the spider totems all of the multiverse is spider-man included he's an energy vampire who's proved himself more than capable of overwhelming peter and the other web heads of the spider-verse he's basically spider-man's dracula only one thousand times scarier if they need a villain to force the team from into the spider-verse back together for a sequel there's no one better for the job than moreland you wouldn't think a guy like otto octavius would be spider-man's most powerful villain he's an out-of-shape scientist with four metal arms that's the kind of formula for a forgettable villain of the week what truly makes him spider-man's greatest threat is the brilliant mind of his and just how far he'll go in his fight against peter parker from founding the sinister six to erasing his memories to publicly unmasking him octavius has proven that there's no line he won't cross now vindictive evil spider-man villains are a dime a dozen so what really makes otto number one well that would have to be the superior spider-man story in that story a dying auto implants his mind over peter's and traps him in his own debilitated body then he goes on to become a new kind of spider-man forming relationships businesses and enemies all with peter's body in order to prove that he's a better spider-man than peter ever was otto's proven that his evil genius will always find a new and sinister way to attack spider-man tom holland watch out he's coming for you spider-man no way home is going to be giving us a ton of villains perhaps too many for one film if you ask some people but i'm not going to get into that right now having all these bad guys kicking around on the big screen has got me thinking out of all of the wall crawlers iconic baddies who would i rank at the top who is the most dangerous who has had the largest impact on the life of peter parker which is something i've decided to explore in video form since you know that's kind of what i do for a living in this video i'm gonna be going through a pretty substantial chunk of peter parker's rogues gallery and ranking them from worst to best so without any more of this yammering on let's go ahead and dive right into it with the first entry on our list let's start this off with a character whose very existence answers the question of what would happen if you were to take your basic low level goon and give them super powers you'd get the sandman that's what happens william baker aka flint marco was your regular run-of-the-mill petty criminal just trying to make his way in the world until a freak accident mutated him turning him into a being made up completely of living sand discovering that he could manipulate his shape at will even going so far as to be able to take on the form of a sandstorm baker quickly started using his powers for nefarious means however after numerous battles against not just spider-man but the fantastic four on several occasions as well it became pretty clear that sandman isn't really much of a threat when he's on his own in a group however he is capable of quite a bit more probably why he is often seen as a member of the sinister six and despite being a part of that villainous team he hasn't always been a bad guy exclusively in fact at one point he was a probationary avenger when he was trying to reform himself a little bit didn't last long though naturally maxwell dillon didn't exactly lead the best life between coming from a broken home and a low-paying blue-collar job things seemed like they just couldn't get much worse for him that is until his wife left him for a man with a better job having hit rock bottom you can understand why someone like him would turn to a life of crime especially after developing superpowers due to a freak accident taking on the name electro dillon discovered that he had been granted the ability to generate and manipulate electrical currents being able to do stuff such as channeling them into massive blasts if that wasn't crazy enough later on he seemed to develop the ability to transform his physical form into pure electricity allowing him to travel at fast speeds along power lines and access places he wouldn't normally be able to get to however he has one major weakness that spider-man has found and exploited on several different occasions basically electro has to avoid anything that might cause his electrical powers to short out as it were so doing stuff such as hitting him with a ton of water or other such highly conductive substances or even going the opposite direction and trying to ground him out have proven to be effective means of containing him so for no other reason than it being relatively easy to take advantage of a pretty massive weakness electro gets to take a lower spot on this list though he does get some serious bonus points for being one of the first super villains the web head ever faced off against you know when talking about special effects artists a common thing that people will call them is wizards as a lot of what they are capable of seems like borderline magic to those of us who don't really know what is going on behind the scenes in the case of quentin beck aka mysterio this is extra applicable capable of creating hyper-realistic illusions utilizing chemical hallucinogens and complex mechanical constructs mysterio has managed to trick some of the most powerful beings in the marvel universe for example in the old man logan story arc mysterio was shown tricking wolverine into thinking that a ton of supervillains were attacking the x-men's base of operations causing him to go into one of his patented berserker rages one problem though there were no actual villains there instead he just wound up butchering the entire x-men team as well as a ton of young mutant students giving us one of the most brutal and tragic moments in comic history all due to mysterio's illusions so he's pretty flippin powerful no doubt however if someone like spider-man is able to get past his illusions like he has on several different occasions mysterio is just a basic dude no real super powers to his name so theoretically he isn't that hard to take down still though despite being kinda squishy his powers have been enough historically to cause him to have a spot on most versions of the sinister six so he isn't someone to take too lightly throughout the history of storytelling some of the best characters have been born out of tragic circumstances among all of spider-man's foes there are none more tragic than dr kurt connors aka the lizard first introduced as an ally and mentor of sorts for peter parker connors was a brilliant scientist who sought to find a way to regrow an arm that he lost while serving in the u.s military his research caused him to take a look at certain species of reptiles who possessed the ability to regenerate lost limbs he wound up developing a serum based upon reptilian dna and injected himself with it it caused him to begin regrowing his arm yes but it also caused him to take on lizard-like physical attributes transforming him into a monstrous bloodthirsty beast so spider-man was ultimately forced to fight his former friend and over the years despite trying parker has never been able to truly cure conor's of his affliction instead all that's really been able to be achieved has been conor's being able to sometimes regain control over himself however it's always just temporary as anything can cause him to spiral becoming the beast again now this entry might be kind of cheating as he is a villain who's shown to be someone that a ton of different heroes regularly take on but spider-man is one of his most common foils so i'm counting it plus there's no way that i could really rank spider-man related villains without at least mentioning wilson fisk aka the kingpin the big papa crime lord of new york city may just appear to be your everyday mob boss but he is way more formidable than that he is cunning manipulative and completely uncompromising in his pursuit to consolidate control of new york's cd underbelly his ability to get people to do whatever it is that he wants them to is borderline inhuman and when his charm and wit don't get him his way he is capable of leaning pretty hard on anyone who proves to be an obstacle to his success and i don't just mean through throwing goons at the problem which he certainly does quite a bit fisk himself is a formidable fighter having trained his entire life allowing him to utilize his substantial bulk pretty effectively and don't be fooled by his build this behemoth of a man is nearly 400 pounds of pure muscle and rage while he doesn't have any actual superpowers he might as well as he is able to use his strength beyond that of your everyday human now say that fisk sets his sight on you for whatever reason you might think that you could just get away from him by avoiding new york city no problem surely his reach doesn't go much beyond that wrong fisk has been shown to have influence with a ton of multinational groups including flippin hydra you know the anti-freedom supervillain group with a pension for dramatic hand gestures so yeah kingpin is definitely a formidable foe for the wall crawler and certainly one that you wouldn't want to mess with craven the hunter is a character that might not get the most attention among members of spider-man's rogues gallery he's the kind of guy that your mainstream audience member probably doesn't even know exists however this russian aristocrat turned trained hunter and tracker is the focus of one of if not the most critically acclaimed story arc within spider-man's long history on the page and honestly telling you a little bit about craven's last hunt tells you all you really need to know about why this guy is such a powerful foe for the web head believing himself superior to all craven once hunted down and seemingly killed spider-man after burying him rather respectfully i might add craven donned a copy of spider-man's suit and set out on the town during his time posing as spider-man he brutally beat down several petty criminals and managed to capture a villain called vermin whom spider-man had previously required the aid of captain america to take care of himself soon though spider-man who had actually just been tranquilized by craven awoke and dug himself out of the grave that he had been put in he then confronted craven who didn't put up any kind of resistance he explained to the web head that he had proven that he was above all others proved that he was even a superior spider-man so he had nothing left to fight for he had won he then released vermin whom spider-man was forced to chase down leaving craven alone after that craven penned a note confessing what he had done to the wall crawler and took his own life feeling that there was nothing else left for him to do it was a shocking and dark storyline to be sure but it does a lot to show you the kind of man that craven is or i guess was cause you know all right look you knew that venom was gonna make his way onto this list sooner or later sure this black goo monster that used to serve as a fancy suit for spider-man before they had a rather violent falling out has proven over the last two decades or so that he is far more interested in being a hero or at the very least an anti-hero than he is being a villain but he is still considered a member of spider-man's rogues gallery so he is valid to put on this list possessing nearly all of peter parker's special abilities plus greater strength in the versatility of the alien symbiote which comes with the added bonus of being completely invisible to parker's spider sense somehow venom is a formidable foe on top of that his knowledge of parker's secret identity has also allowed him to attack spider-man in much more personal ways than almost all of his other villains so despite the fact that venom and spider-man have come to develop somewhat of an uneasy truce over the years their shared history has made it so that the two will more than likely never trust each other fully to know thine enemy one must first know thy himself this old adage is meant to get people to look inward trying to find the reason for why they might hate someone but it kind of falls apart in the case of dr otto octavius aka doc ock a man who not only proved to be one of the most dangerous and iconic villains spider-man has ever gone up against but also not too bad of a spider-man himself some might even say that he was the superior spider-man sorry bad joke doc ock is a bad guy who has perhaps managed to get the upper hand over the web head more than any other member of his rogues gallery which can be chalked up to a few different things first and foremost is the fact that the guy is a certified genius before he turned to a life of crime and became the octopus octavius was a gifted researcher and scientist in fact the fancy arms he is famous for were developed and built by himself and he has used this intellect to enact some extremely devious schemes such as the time that he managed to switch bodies with parker trapping him in a frail and dying body while otto went on to take over as peter parker becoming a more ruthless and efficient version of spider-man and we also cannot forget that octavius was the one who initially founded the sinister six the supervillain group who has given peter parker more trouble than any other supervillain team ever taking all of this into consideration and combining with it the fact that he is such a beloved character among fans everywhere how could i not put octavius this high on the list heck he probably honestly would have been number one if not for the sheer power of the two remaining entries what do you get when you take everything that makes venom a threat but take away his sense of right and wrong and sprinkle in a little bit of homicidal tendencies you get the red menace known as carnage the unwanted offspring of venom was already bad enough a rogue symbiote that wished to bring death to not just his father but pretty much everyone else however once he bonded with the serial killer cletus cassidy this guy became the thing nightmares are made of since his first appearance in amazing spider-man number 345 carnage has cut a bloody swath through the marvel universe causing so much death and destruction that he has on numerous occasions served as the catalyst that has caused spider-man and venom to put aside their differences and work together which is no small feat however there is one villain that has managed to make a large enough impact in the life of peter parker to rank even higher than the nightmare that is carnage but don't worry we aren't totally done with the red menace just yet come on you knew that green goblin was going to be taking the top spot on this there's no other villain who has managed to leave such a lasting impact on not just spider-man but on comic history itself norman osborne is arguably the arch nemesis of the wall crawler and for good reason he is the villain who handed peter parker his first true defeat and failure being the one responsible for the death of gwen stacy an event that still to this day has lasting effects on peter parker's life it also set a precedent within comics that no character is truly safe but you aren't really here for the meta history of the comic industry now what makes osborne so dangerous isn't just what he's done in the past to spider-man it's how he actually goes about doing things as his preferred means of attacking people is not just coming at them with pumpkin bombs but by breaking them down to their core either through psychological or emotional torture though that doesn't really mean that he can't get his hands dirty he has some serious tech that he can utilize for maiming and slaying from the aforementioned pumpkin bombs to his iconic glider to hallucinogenic toothpaste and remember how i said we weren't done with carnage yet well osborne once bonded with the crimson symbiote becoming perhaps one of the most horrifyingly powerful foes spider-man has ever gone up against the red goblin for that fact alone goblin would get this spot on the list but when you couple all of that with his history he is more than deserving of the number one ranking hey there everybody i'm jon algets i made this video and i want to know what you think how would you rank the spider-man villains let me
