hello guys Chris here and welcome back to another video in this one my friends we're gonna be revisiting the Radeon RX 6600 8 gigabyte GPU so back in early 2022 I first reviewed the RX 6600 it was another model from MSI this one is from afox and thanks guys at afox for sending it for review by the way and at the end of the review I actually ended up calling it a really good value GPU probably the greatest value at the time since you could actually find them brand new at 250 bucks and everything else was super overpriced because of the mining craze the inflations and so on and now you can find the RX 6600 used for around 120 to 150 bucks this is really nice let's take a look at its specs next so this is almost two years old it released in October of 2021 it's based on the rdna 2.0 architecture and it has 1792 shading units 112 tmus 64 robs 8 gigabytes of gddr6 memory running on a 128 bit memory Buzz yep that's the same as the 4060 TI and it was priced at 329 dollars at release which is a terrible deal for a 1080p GPU but these days we have 400 gpus aimed at 1080p gaming anyways lastly it has a TDP of 100 132 watts of power that's very low and this afox model comes out of the box running only at 100 watts of power now there are some models of the 6600 that run at 100 Watts there are other models that run at slightly higher wattage so I push the power limit in MSI After Burner to plus 20 and I ran the tests at 120 watts TDP finally we're running a ryzen 7 5800x3d and 32 gigabytes of RAM on the test system right there you can see all of the other specs Down Below in the description and let's play some games on the 6600 now shall we let's start with a well optimized title those are rare these days this is Forza Horizon 5 at 1080p resolution using TAA and the ultra Graphics preset but I changed the texture quality as well as the geometry quality to high instead of ultra because it was running out of vram and causing a few stitters here and there and obviously in terms of FPS it is a high refresh rate experience I mean in Forza all you need in my opinion is like 60 FPS locked to enjoy the hell out of this game and we're well well above that you can actually cap it to like 120 and Achieve that pretty much most of the time I would say and it's City time it's dropping into the one teens wow it's still up there though this is really awesome performance a little bit better than what I expected honestly strong start for the RX 6600 here guys and all of this with 120 watts of power let's see the most intensive little thing that you can do getting out of the tunnel drops our fps to 105 so it's a hundred plus one hundred percent of the time see games can look good and run really well developers of 2023 next up to contrast Forza Horizon 5 We Got The Last of Us Part One at 1080p using no webscalers and the medium settings with high textures these are actually the settings that defaults to with an rx6600 XT and apparently it's going to stay within the vram limit so it shouldn't really stutter and it should be a smooth experience throughout so far so good over here it's not really that intensive let's keep on going here looking at the right everything is all right 80 plus still but looking back oh boy all right it drops like crazy look at that we're in the 50s now here's the thing though this is a single player title I think it's completely fine with like 50 plus FPS all of the time I guess and it should only dip down into the 50s whenever you are in a really really intensive area like this one over here it usually drops a lot as well wait a second well 60. that's pretty good okay we're almost in the most intensive area of my Benchmark run which is also one of the most intensive areas in the entire game I played through the entire thing while benchmarking gpus and here is one of the areas that I saw it dropped the most so looking back at the stairs there we go 51 FPS minimum basically it's definitely not the greatest experience in The Last of Us Part One obviously it's not expected anyways from a GPU that costs 120 bucks used these days okay next up is Call of Duty war zone 2 and we're playing this one at the 1080p resolution native no upscalings are being used and we're using the lowest settings preset which is the minimum settings preset which doesn't really set everything to the minimum but that's what we're using right here with very low textures as well because I tried it with normal textures and it was stuttering as usual we just dropped in the zarqua hydroelectric part of the game which is very GPU intensive because of all of the water here and let's go ahead and start counting our FPS I'm planning plunder by the way and it's getting really smooth FPS actually this is a high refresh rate experience guys this game is very well optimized towards AMD gpus usually the AMD cards will do much better than their Nvidia competitors in this particular title and we see the 6600 providing an amazing experience oh there's one oh okay okay it's all good it's all good he probably has friends though but well if you want to be competitive in this game on RX 6600 is all you need honestly maybe a little bit more vram wouldn't hurt but it's only utilizing like six gigabytes right now still stuttering slightly I don't know what's up with this game's optimization they're always ruining it with every single update it becomes worse and worse also it's possible that you will get lower FPS because of a CPU bottleneck scenario if you have something slower than the 5800x3d because they also broke the CPU optimization in this game okay anyway at the end of it we got 140 frames on average which is really good alright guys let's visit night City in cyberpunk 2077 next we're playing this one at the 1080p resolution using the high settings preset with high textures but I disabled FSR as well as motion blur I'll also test some FSR in this one in just a little bit less start counting our FPS it's holding like 60 ish frames per second right now but in more intensive scenarios it's definitely gonna drop from 60. I'm actually impressed that it hasn't already okay 59 right there that's not too bad though also if you walk around instead of drive around it usually gets you way higher FPS like 10 more FPS so there's that if you just avoid cars all together you can achieve 10 more FPS on average which is quite nice but you don't want to do that probably goodbye Bob there we go that was beautiful my friends oh yes did he actually die I'm not sure if it did anyway this is a really intensive roundabout and it's actually not dropping what no way I I really thought it would drop here guys all right let's try it out with FSR 2.1 on quality for a little bit it should stay above 60 FPS at all times wow 80s and 90s that's quite the bump in performance and fsr2 does look really nice in this game aside from the horrible ghosting that you can see behind the car you can get 60 plus FPS all of the time with pretty good visuals overall so that is a pretty big win right here for the upscaler from AMD okay it's time to kill Bob once again goodbye damn it I think I killed somebody else again yep he survived you're gonna die now you are gonna die goodbye Bob let's go nice and uh going around the roundabout it's only dropping into the lower 80s now if you want a little bit better visual Fidelity than FSR you also got xcss in this game I'm spending way too long here in cyberpunk but I'm really curious to see how much of an improvement we'll get by using xcss Ultra quality in terms of visuals it looks very similar to Native res you don't have that ghosting issue anymore which is nice and in terms of FPS you get like slightly higher than native resolution it only dropped there because of the little stutter that we got but I think this is enough for us to stay above 60 like 99 of the time so I think I would end up using these settings right here the averages are so close to 69 as well oh boy anyway yeah it's never dropped from 60. get out of the car dude oh it's blocked just gonna die I guess yeah 69 average perfect yeah oh my goodness I cannot believe this it's actually getting 169 FPS well just to shut me up it got one more but let's go over the settings this is Apex Legends we're playing at 1080p using the high settings here alright looking at the entire map and this one is pretty intensive we're seeing a hundred plus FPS that's really decent actually right guys we're dropping oh boy oh boy maybe this is a bad place to drop at uh I'm gonna start counting our FPS here oh it seems to be a pretty good experience with over a hundred frames per second very very smooth indeed now let's go nice we got one now let's try to stay alive for like five minutes or so so we can gather some decent averages and one percent lows here shall we it is just really really smooth though you can see Zero stuttering here in this game which is to be expected this is a well optimized title go this way there's one right here go with the shotgun nice got him oh that was the last one of a squad alright so I just threw my ultimate out now guys let's see some huge explosions very very intensive doesn't even drop from a hundred wow that's some sick performance right there I hear somebody yep very close all right we're dead we're dead at this point come on come on come on one down reload let's go down here they're fighting each other no that's enough though two kills can't attack for more than that next is Remnant 2 at 1080p using xcss Ultra quality and low settings and I just included this one because it's an Unreal Engine 5 title and it runs like absolute crap so we need to play at 1080p low with a scaling to achieve 60 plus FPS probably not all of the time might I add yeah come on no no no no no no let's go let's go let's go this is good for to see our FPS you know a lot of effects a lot of enemies on screen come on come on damn it what is happening I'm almost dead come on oh my God such a big stuttering mess oh boy that is terrifying actually I mean the performance not the enemies look at our one percent lows no that's so bad it's also using seven gigabytes of vram it's what is below 1080p resolution because it's upscaling from lowering oh my God are you kidding me are you actually kidding me this is unplayable at this point anyway I doubt this will be popular for a long time so I'm just gonna move on to the next game honestly it's a fun game in terms of gameplay but it's just the performance ruins everything next up is Hogwarts Legacy and you could say It's Magic but this GPU Works quite well in it we're playing a 1080p TAA High and the high settings preset where it recommended low I don't know why it recommended low because as we'll see it runs extremely well on high I am in hogsmead getting 90 frames per second on high settings why did it recommend low I have no idea I was getting a hundred plus FPS on low settings like actually close to 200 somehow I think they fixed the CPU bottlenecking issues in this game and it was so damn smooth when I started it on low settings that I I thought well now we can't have that we want it to be a worse experience and we want to push the limits of the 6600 and this is it high settings pushes its limits a little bit anyway flying around dropping into the 50s at times it still stutters a bit by the way of course that goes without mentioning this game is kind of terrible when it comes to stability unfortunately even to this day yeah it's getting like 50 plus FPS 100 of the time 69 on average again like can we just appreciate that oh boy anyway you can expect a 50 plus FPS experience in 99 of the game and 60 FPS sometimes is achievable as you can see but if you really really want the 60 plus FPS experience all you need to do while maintaining the good high settings Graphics which are a lot better than medium in this game is enable fsr2 on quality bump up that sharpness slightly you know maybe 0.45 should be nice leave it on high and this way we should get a battery smooth 60 plus FPS experience all of the time also to get rid of stuttering all you need to do is lock your FPS to 60 or to a value lower than your one percent lows with external software not with the built-in cap inside of the game and then you'll have smooth frame time graph and as you can see FSR makes it so it doesn't even drop from 70 FPS you're gonna see 100 of the time 60 plus using fsr2 on quality and and with the 0.45 sharpness it actually makes the image a bit sharper than native resolution bottom line is if you have a 1080p monitor these are the best settings in my opinion to play this game with and it's going to work very very well oh boy my friends this is valorent which is very easy to run and we're playing it at 1080p using the highest settings and four times msaa and this is so easy to run that even with four times MSA it's getting 500 plus FPS oh my God all right that was close I stopped counting our FPS there we go there we go so if you want to be competitive in this game even with the high settings you can do so absolutely fine all you need oh nice but yeah all you need is a CPU that can keep up with these frames as well as a super high refresh rate monitor to take advantage of this you know like 240 hertz even three 160 Hertz would work extremely well Jesus Christ see this is how they need to fight you they just Camp around corners wait for you and the pre-fire because they're listening to all of your footsteps where's the other guy what yeah okay now I just keep getting wrecked my friends these guys are really good every time I play valerians they're just so good trying so hard it's fun nice one down oh what did that guy just pre-fire me all right nice three oh that was close come on he's just sneaking around like this not making noise why do they play like this this death match that one is even worse she was listening to me from kilometers away what the hell oh hello there yeah die five kills remaining and it's over guys it's over we got 36 kills that was quite nice actually next is Diablo 4 and we're playing at 1080p using native resolution no FSR and the ultra settings preset and it's actually working really well a little bit better than I expected I first thought of playing this on high instead of ultra because it defaulted too high but no Ultra is absolutely fine above 100 frames per second so yeah you can play this game absolutely fine there's the odds that are here and there but that's completely normal in this one it needs to load in new areas and stuff and once it loads them everything should be buttery smooth and super playable here and also there should be more intensive areas than this one that we're seeing right here I like to test it here because there are a lot of enemies that we can kill that drops our FPS slightly but he will come across like cities and stuff like that that will drop your FPS not to the point that it matched actors though it should always stay above 60 FPS well above 60 FPS the entire time you're playing this game again I just was expecting a little bit worse for some reason this ultra settings I have also seen this game consuming a ton of vram it is not even using 8 gigabytes it's really really cool next up we got Spider-Man remastered at 1080p using TAA and the very high settings preset which is the maximum settings preset and this game is one of those that's actually well optimized so we can see around 90 to 100 FPS maybe a little bit lower than that sometimes and a bit higher in that sometimes as well so that is a really smooth experience here with the RX 6600 hopefully it's not gonna drop into the 50s in really intensive areas though and those little stutters that you see in the frame time graph will be gone if you lock the fps to say like 60 frames per second for example now over here looking at the entire city is usually really intensive and it's not really dropping that much 65 right there well okay maybe it will drop into the 50s actually look at that 64. still if it does drop into the 50s it's not the end of the world really it's a single player title now jumping from here is the most intensive thing that you can do and it does drop into the 50s look at that but that's only in a single scenario which doesn't really matter you might not even come across it you know although you probably will because it's fun and finally the Central Park area not really dropping as far as I thought well actually it did 64 FPS there minimum so far yep not a problem it's not even gonna drop from 60 in this part of the map so I'll say it's basically a perfect experience next is Red Dead Redemption 2 and we're playing at 1080p using the hardware unboxed optimized settings and these are optimized to get the best visuals to Performance ratio and it's looking fantastic and perform forming insanely well at the same time if I use like ultra settings everything it would actually be below 60 but this is way better okay this is the perfect experience right here basically all right let's start counting our FPS super buttery smooth frame time graphs look at that that doesn't have a single stutter whatsoever that's what I like to see my friends and this is a big open world title as well right that Redemption 2 just puts new games to shame basically in terms of visuals and performance Jack is usually here but it's not here today that is very very unfortunate because I'm not gonna test GTA 5 you know if you want GTA 5 results I already have a video in the channel testing various resolutions in that game in the RX 6600 and I'm actually trying a little bit of a different area right here in Red Dead Redemption 2 we're gonna go to the strawberry town it's raining heavily right now but still hanging in there with ifps that's great all right here we go 80 something FPS this is usually very intensive because of the river coming across the town and the water physics are very very intensive in this game but apparently there is no issue whatsoever here you could even play at 1440p probably let's try that out for a little okay here we go 25 60 by 1440 exactly with the same settings 60 ish frames per second all right that means that it will drop in some areas of the game but it's it's still gonna provide a decent and very playable experience yeah look at that 59 FPS already but yeah it doesn't oh my God what the hell roach what the hell oh my goodness you scared the heck out of me are you okay buddy yeah it is below 60 FPS very often with an average of 62. in Saint denit would probably drop slightly more like into the mid 50s probably yeah not bad a little bit worse first than I expected but I guess that 128 bit memory Buzz coupled with a higher resolution we don't see great scaling when bumping up the resolution you know you lose a lot of FPS next is Battlefield 2042 at 1080p using the high settings preset and this is actually really good in this game guys in the first part of this map this is Breakthrough by the way I was getting 111 FPS average for about like three minutes of gameplay and over here which is much more intensive we're averaging 80s and 70s and I've been in a very very smoky scenario already a very intensive one with explosions and stuff inside of a tank unfortunately I died before I hit record but it was getting like down into the lower 70s at times I gotta say I'm really impressed about this performance because I initially thought of making this on medium settings but then I thought ah what the heck let's try High you know the GPU isn't really too far off of a 30 60 12 gigabyte model anyways in terms of performance in some games at least and here it shows that it's pretty strong okay I just wanted to play a little bit in another map as well this is slightly less intensive especially when you progress into the map but over here since we still have a lot of vegetation it's very similar to the previous one so uh oh nice double kill with the grenade I guess the 360 is actually quite a bit better than this one in fact I thought it was gonna be a very similar experience oh my gosh so many explosions so many things happening uh we're probably gonna be screwed all right one down we should probably move on to the next one but I'm just I'm enjoying the experience here guys oh boy oh boy no no no no no no no no whoa hello okay 85 FPS average very similar to the other map actually now we're playing stutter Knight at 1080p using DirectX 12 and the high settings with 100 resolution scale and I disabled the Lumen stuff because that's way too intensive for this little card oh my God oh my God to Hell bro hopefully it's only stuttering like this while we're dropping I already played a game for like 10 minutes or so and it wasn't as bad as this all right here we go I'm gonna start counting the FPS so far so good it's not really stuttering since we touched this uh little rail looking thing oh my no never mind never mind it is still broken it is still stutter night I just hate this game and it's so annoying all of this stuttering happens for the first few games that you play especially after reinstalling the drivers and of course I always reinstall the drivers for these videos and since I reinstalled the drivers from scratch all of the Shaded optimizations from fortnite and a few very few other titles um well they need to do that all over again and that's why we get so much stuttering here alright let's get out of the mega City that's oh my God it's so oh my God ah it's so annoying I just hate this this is my nightmare my friends what the hell well there are a couple of people here one here up up no I'm gonna die I'm gonna die wait wait here is not looking at us why okay so around bushy areas lots of vegetation it gets down into the 70s these are like probably like one of the most intensive areas since we're seeing so much vegetation and it's still not dropping from 60. obviously if you want that high refresh rate experience competitive one you'll play at like performance mode and Achieve hundreds of FPS but if you prefer the visuals and I mean this game does look very good on high even without the Lumen enabled well you can have it above 60fps still it's a good experience aside from the freaking stuttering that you will need to get used to at least for the first few games that you make now another recent title this is Resident Evil 4 remake and I am playing at 1080p resolution using the prioritized Graphics settings but I needed to change the texture quality to high 0.5 instead of High 2 gigabytes because well otherwise it was a stuttery mess basically everything else is said to the priest set I just disabled motion blur and let's start counting rfps with these settings it is a buttery smooth experience look at that frame time graph so so smooth lovely stuff my friends it also looks really good this game and it's gonna stay above 60 frames per second this is the chainsaw demo by the way I'm not playing the full game but it's it gives us a good idea of what to expect in terms of FPS without spoiling anything to you guys oh boy oh boy okay okay 69 FPS one percent lows that is absolutely Magnificent the bullets aren't enough for all of these people reload reload let's go this is the furthest I have come in this part of the game my friends a little bit of a stutter right there by the way probably loading something let's go kill them all slash slash slash ffff Break Free all right one two three that's a very bad way to die now it's Elden ring at 1080p using the maximum settings but without motion blur and as we saw in the previous review that I made on the 6600 a year and a half ago it gets 60fps locked all of the time no problems whatsoever it's a really really smooth experience and I'm probably gonna die I'm gonna try my best here my friends I have never slained this dragon let's see some fire effects right now shall we okay there we go fire effects incoming all good did not drop whatsoever so you can play at 1080p Max settings absolutely fine and look at that power utilization as well since the game is locked to 60 frames per second it only consumes around like 70 to 80 Watts most of the time it's really good again this is exactly what we saw in the last video over here it doesn't even max out GPU usage with all of these trees and vegetation around us is pretty intensive by the way so yeah I just wanted to reiterate that you can indeed play Elden ring with Max settings always at 60fps capped there will be a couple of stutters here and there but it's just because of the game not the GPU and yeah in case you missed my last video here it is Elden ring running absolutely fine next up is Far Cry 6 at 1080p using the ultra settings preset with no HD textures because you actually need 11 gigabytes or more of vram to run those and the dxr reflections as well as Shadows are turned on so this is Ray tracing all right and uh to my surprise it actually runs really well I mean AMD and Ray tracing is not usually a good combination especially compared to like Nvidia with their more mature rate racing performance but this is really good you can enjoy some decent looking Reflections here at 1080p resolution with the RX 6600 even with Ray tracing enabled always above 60 frames per second I mean this is not really a super impressive implementation of the XR honestly but I just I was expecting a little bit worse performance and I thought we'd need to drop it from this Benchmark but instead here we are running the XR ultra settings getting 77 FPS average and 64 one percent lows and here it actually says 69 minimum very good very good all right guys it's conclusion time and I'll still have Assassin's Creed Valhalla as well as Rainbow Six Siege running The Benchmark runs over here while I talk about the RX 6600 now should you buy it in 2023 I think if you can find it for like 120 bucks it's a really good price yes you are gonna struggle in ue5 games well not really in fortnite for example but it's gonna struggle if the games are not well optimized and that's the case recently with pretty much every major release but the thing is if you want to play 2022 games and older it does a fine job at that and for that low price I think it's definitely worth it the 8 gigabytes of vram can be a limitation sometimes as we saw in a couple of games today I needed to lower the textures a little bit like in Forza latest version of Fords as well as Call of Duty war zone but it's a trade-off that I'm willing to make when the price is right and the price is right for this card right here on the used Market only because brand new it still goes for over 200 bucks so for that price you might as well stretch your budget a little bit or save a little bit more and buy the 6600 XT or even the 6700 or 6700 XT and I think that's 6700 XT at around 300 bucks or sometimes even lower brand new is where the deal is at also this afox cooler did a really good job of keeping the cards cool even in a 28 degree room temperature that's Celsius by the way so I can safely recommend the a fox version if you find one of these thank you very much for watching this video don't forget to like And subscribe if you haven't already and I'll catch you in the next one very soon love you all bye bye
