to Nicolas Cage movies into the ring but only one comes out alive it's cinemassacre subtract to 90s action epochs both produced by Jerry Bruckheimer each with a theme of prisons prisoners breaking out of prison and break into a to prison were explosions trucks planes military so the first matchup is the rock versus Conair but first you'd see our pilot episode which we released during monster madness yeah Mandy versus a millimeter yeah that was you go on I forgot what one I don't remember who won with us but I posted a Twitter poll which is what we're gonna do again this time yeah and the Twitter poll was close I think Mandy won by a little bit but we're gonna do that on every cage match every Friday this month so let us know which movie you think is the winner in the comments and be sure to check out my Twitter page where I'll have a poll mmm after every video so with the rock and Conair I guess let's go with the rock first sure so the rock came out first 96 and it's pretty much about them breaking back into Alcatraz yeah you know like did nickname for Alcatraz is the rock the rock but you can't just say the rock you gotta say the rule the wrong cool rock [Music] so pretty much you have some American Marine terrorists take over Alcatraz and they're gonna share shoot of stolen VX nerve gas rockets into the city yeah but Nick Cage who's a nerdy I don't know like chemical analyst yeah are they for the FBI he has to stop them and the only way they can get into the rock and me nothin navigate the tunnels is by getting the only person that never escaped former British SAS guy Sean Connery yeah that had pretty much it mmm-hmm which I think anything where Sean Connery is kind of the the the supporting dude like I love Last Crusade and I I really like the rock but I saw it very late mmm-hmm back when I used to work at the video shop I used to just sit and watch a Netflix all the time and this was one of the movies I watched and I loved it got me through the shift pretty good mmm I like it more now I think but I mean when I saw it I was just like this is trendy mainstream garbage it's definitely a popcorn flick yeah started with it started the Michael Bay era like yeah beginning this was their second movie I think bad boys oh boy ed boys nice right 95 yeah that was a like the middle of the 90s were killer for Jerry Bruckheimer man yeah yeah yeah from even you know from Top Gun on from the 80s you know like he was killing it from that to like Pirates of the Caribbean like and these new 90s action movie still have an appeal that is that's just unmatched for some reason like since it seemed like it was kind of like the end of when like action movies like seemed more tangible like more real even if they're still doing their own stunts a lot of times like it's still for some reason I kind of take it for granted when I see stunts now like I'm like oh they probably had some green screen or something but when you look back at these movies you're like oh yeah they really did crash those cars and it just feels yes Michael Michael Bay used to give a [ __ ] yeah now like like I said I enjoyed this movie but I just even now I just look at it and there's something like a love/hate thing where it's also like okay this is just a big dumb action movie but it's much fun but there's also so many cliches that happen in this that I just got so sick of where there's like mourning over somebody's grave in the rain there's people in cars looking tense at the wheel with the camera shaking yeah there's always lines like that's an order or we're online or we've got a bad feeling about this or which is sometimes I've got a bad feeling about this yeah like in Star Wars and there's also I'm too old for this yeah and then there's a every scene ends with a punch line it takes itself seriously but but keeps winking to the audience's at the same time it's always got to be over two hours oh this movie is definitely [ __ ] like 30 to 48 minutes too long yeah I never I when I get when I watch a movie and I'm into it and it's because the way if you're into it yeah yeah the one thing with this movie it's it's edited like a music video where shots don't last very long like they're like three-second long shots that cut yep constantly and that makes the movie for me seem like it's blazing by I mean this videos own taste but it's just so much it's happening like once you get there it's like it's kinda like a headache although it's still enjoyable yeah but the cliches there's every every transition is a bunch of establishing shots of radar equipment and army vehicles and just a dum-dum yeah and then it's always full of overly dramatic music nothing against Hans Zimmer I mean you are the greatest composers but the whole thing is scored like a trailer it's just like it's like it's enough just like come on just chill out for what inhibit and then uh the rock is so cliche that the only thing missing from it is the rock no feeling the raffia the rock Johnson they should do a rock reboot with the rock with the rock yeah that was Sean Connery and the rock no I wonder if they'll cuz like you're gonna get to a point where the rocks gonna be the older person in it yeah in like five maybe ten years I I think with this movie you could definitely come back to it and do something with them if the rock would make a great addition to because Alcatraz is still a well yeah the whole theme of the movie still it probably makes more sense now than it did then yeah because you have the reason why ed Harris who's the main bad guy if you want to call him that in this movie he's doing it because his fellow soldiers his veterans and all that it's like reparations yeah because they've been there like black ops soldiers that died overseas and stuff and they just brushed him of the rug didn't give him any like benefits or any of that stuff and he's like well I'm fighting for this so we're gonna steal your goddamn nerve gas you shouldn't be making anyway you [ __ ] and we're gonna point it back at you and you're so he's basically threatening the city of San Francisco with nerve gas the movie brings more today because at Harris is doing this stuff for the military or whatever and if you do it nowadays you would say you would do stuff about how you know with the British and getting dragging to the Iraq war and all that stuff because like they're kind of there that's what they're kind of going with a little bit hmm cuz they're talking about him going to Vietnam and how that was a mess and the China thing was a mess whatever like I think there's more parallels nowadays that you could get with the wrong if that make any sense yeah no I I think that I I don't know I I think what they did with this movie like at the time it's it's different because you you had a sympathetic villain you had a villian that you know is he's sympathetic of the place up but if you yeah he's gonna kill a whole city of people yeah but it's for a noble reason I don't think he wants to blow up San Francisco I think he's just like hey I need you find out later that it was a bluff but that's getting later into the movie so Michael Biehn is the commander of like the whole mission to get back in Alcatraz and then he enlists Nic Cage finally who's like a chemical expert and we mentioned Sean Connery who's a prison breakout expert the only thing though it's not much of a cage movie it's more of an ensemble movie yeah there are some good cage moments but not many the part that sticks out is in the prison cell where he's screaming about Zeus's butthole because in that whole scene if you look at it he he talks in his monotone voice and then he shouts all of a sudden then he goes back to calm and then he shouts again so it comes out here and there but it's not really that much of a cage movie in the moment gets a little boy like once they're already like in the rock and the prison underground like it takes a while to get to that ending yeah and then you know like I think there's a point where like Sean Connery like gives himself up and then he goes then he hides again and then they get caught then they come out again like if there's a little too much back and forth yet you know like like passing the football I guess mm-hmm but then you eventually have that there arch like you like you find out that it was a bluff and he wasn't gonna launch the things even though they'd be activated a bunch of them but the troops who just want money like the mercenary type guys in his unit decide to like they kill at Harrah's and the main people and then they go after Oh Nic Cage and all that Ed Harris I was so confused now I'm straight but I thought he was Peter Weller from Robocop they're they're pretty similar looking that's a Wow yeah cuz then I had to look you know I'm like oh my god how many at Harris movies have I seen thinking it was Peter Weller and luckily I'm not the only person who made that mistake because people have done screenshots of them side by side so before we get the Conair I'd like to do I have done a comparison of the rock there's something else before mm-hmm and that's 1996 Whoopi Goldberg's Eddie because when uh my dad took me to see movies as a kid with my sister he's like do you want to go see the rock or Eddie and I [ __ ] picked Eddie Wow because I thought I never heard one where she was like a coach or so yeah so Whoopi Goldberg is the biggest fan of the New York Knicks I think and she thinks that the coaching there sucks and the team's not doing well so she wins a chance with like a three throw like half court kind of thing to coach the team for the second half and she does so well and it's become such a viral thing back then that they let her coach the whole season and they win and it's as you would expect you know movie I rewatched I saw on the theater and I rewatched on Disney Plus because I saw it on their sister act is good but two is [ __ ] doll I've never seen the second my second has that scene where they wrap mary had a little lamb and he's like well you gotta turn it into a wrap he's like mary had a little lamb please but it's that I hate that scene right now talking around just making my shower I'm getting goose bumps talking about never because Sister Act isn't really like a sequel movie you know it's it's a one-time you know most ghost is an incredible haul just got some of those oh it's really good yeah yeah sorry to bring up will be go over it so I get back to ya back team we do Whoopi Goldberg month so okay yeah we'll do a month react ember whooped ember we'll have to work on that one cage plays a prisoner Cameron Poe who for some reason looks like the singer from Nickelback yeah flowing locks basically he ended up killing somebody but it was self-defense he wasn't his wife I think yeah she was pregnant and like somebody was like I forget what happened the beginning but they get into a bar fight so he's an Army Ranger he shows up back home after the war I guess the Gulf or whatever and there's I guess his wife works at a bar in Oyster Bar and the three guys who keep hitting on her all the time they jump on outside it looks like a fighting game seems like we're you know there's like fire and oil going off and he accidentally kills the guy by pushing his septum yeah it was no thighs and because he's a lethal weapon legally they put him in jail for manslaughter any and his lawyer like is like you should just confess for you yeah yeah I mean you know I mean okay like we that's this is just the beginning of the movie I wish I mean he's the main protagonist this movie because the rest of it is all about him in prison he serves his time he's he's in there for eight years and he has a daughter well you know the pregnant wife she gives birth and then his daughter is eight years old and he's never met her and he just wants to come home so it's like you know you're supposed to be like sympathetic to him which I think you are but I do kind of wish the element of murder even though it was self-defense I do wish the element of murder wasn't there I wish it was more like just he was framed for getting a he got into a fight it was like another crime yeah I kind of just wish the murder part wasn't in it it's what is I have to see the scene I pull the knife out my man yeah yeah I mean he definitely was justified it was just that they [ __ ] him like yeah he was defending his wife and his baby yeah so but you know I thought would you not shove the nose into a guy like if he was you know gonna knife you and your life or whatever you know it's like yeah so it's really the whole movie basically he's in the prison and well he's on the plane which is transferring him and a bunch of other prisoners too well I think he's he's ready to be released yeah the other prisoners are being transferred to like another gear they're all like lifers there there's some madness to the bad yeah the marshal ISM stuff they explained if there's some new supermax prison that was built and the safest way I guess so they're not driving across city roads I was just to fly him there and while they're doing that they're just picking up other people and something he just happened to be hitching a ride yeah wrong place wrong time yeah john cusack or the right place right time because they needed him to you know diffuse the whole situation pretty much yeah so basically like he even has like the opportunity at one point to like to get loose but he just plays it straight and just because he has to help his friend who has diabetes in it cuz he had he needs like an insulin shot and then the it is that Bubba yeah it's public um yeah yeah yeah yeah and then the woman she was the she was the detective in a falling down I forgot her name but she's tied up and then the the Johnny 23 you know once the yeah the girl was like the other marshal isn't she what's her name from Total Recall oh yeah Molina Molina from told yeah yeah she's on there and he he he stays on board to protect them and that's why his wife like why wouldn't he get off why wouldn't you get off it's like well because the planes hijacked I don't know yeah after that but all the other prisoners they hijacked the planet they hijack on air and also we're forgetting the greatest character in this whole movie who is Steve Buscemi's character Carlin Graham well we're getting to that psycho oh no because just like the rock this is definitely an ensemble movie like yeah of course you know spearheaded it is Nicolas Cage more so than the rock but there's just so many character actors in John Malkovich like believe bad guys Bing range yeah yes steve buscemi he's like that that weird prisoner and he like makes friends with that girl yeah repeated and strange yeah cuz he still feel like a John Wayne Gacy he's like you think I like how it's like you think he meant he might have killed her but she's fine and everything and he is with the doll and yeah this thing where they're crashing and he's singing the hole and he's like itty bitty baby as well let's try the most tense moments when he's with the little girl you're worried that something's yeah and then like it's upsetting when it first sent when he did and he walks and it's really ominous the way they film it too because they film it in a way that makes him just look so eat like as far away shots of him just you know it was just creepy looking yeah like speaking me a Samba thing I'm like something like Suicide Squad we're like they just packed information on the screen or try to explain people these awful like they're just terrible Suicide Club like a service how John Cusack explains every person that's getting off the bus and you know exactly their characters yeah each person has their own custom soundtrack when they get off like they have their own theme song that's what I feel he's in tightly Suicide Squad was trying to do something like that but they are dumb as [ __ ] and couldn't because that movie is the worst I also just notice I mean I wrote my notes Chuck Jerry Bruckheimer's was the same producer as Beverly Hills Cop you mentioned Top Gun bad boys the rock Armageddon national treasure I mean actually elms yeah I love [ __ ] Armageddon I think same same I hate it arm again oh geez but I also hated the rock and I like that a lot more so maybe I'll have to watch Armageddon Armageddon's good I'll have to watch Armageddon again Conair is the actions the best part I think to like John Cusack's actually awesome in this movie he's actually almost as badass as Nicolas Cage yeah this might be in my opinion other than then a few this is probably Nicholas Cage at his most badass I think jumping through explosions fighting killing well oh yeah yeah he's actually really like you believe like okay Nicolas Cage is [ __ ] badass in this and he's imposing I think too he's not like you like he's kind of a nice guy but you believe this guy could kill you in the GLM burger he's doing like upside down push up standing in the shoes he's no joke in this movie and I think this might might have been the peak of Nicolas Cage as an action hero I think you're right well you know I think this is peak Cage like of like him being strong and being an action guy whereas the rock is the last time you probably got Sean Connery before it became like leave it League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and yeah read off so that yeah these two years these two movies are the last good Connery and you know Nicolas Cage not being a crazy person you know yeah yeah yeah there's no real gimmick with him in this movie he's got some funny one-liners like you know put the bunny back on the box yeah that's the part I always remember but there's nothing like very cagey in this one except for the cage that they're all in yeah yeah yeah the cage Casey it was so good to read your letter I'm glad you like your teacher we don't exactly have a play time like unit we do go outside though but normally we don't hold hands like what's up with him doing weird accents in his movies yes not quite a hundred percent yeah yeah what is Nicolas Cage emits a sound like in real life yeah the action soon at the end and Las Vegas is amazing yeah they land the plane on the strip you know and that was I saw when I when I was a kid I used to watch like The Learning Channel and they used to do some really cool like special effects documentaries and how they film that and everything you know because they they obviously didn't land a real plane but that was all miniatures most of it like they put the plane down and on a miniature of Las Vegas where they built a working Las Vegas and stuff it's which is like really incredible stuff I know how Vegas is laid out and that air because they say they can't get to the airport cuz their engines going on they're running out of fuel and stuff that airports right next to the strip like it's like right here it's not like an hour away it's like right enough fuel for melts you want to know hundred feet not 350 the pilots name is Swamp Thing and that [ __ ] just one of the land on the air and I yeah I get that I can understand I mean that's a lot better than you know that's way more action-packed in we're gonna land in the airport and be fine like that's not that's not a good climax doesn't work a lot of good scenes were a lot of misdirection in this film - were like they land at the other Airport and there and one of the prisoners was gonna put them on his plane because he's like a South American drug lord and the DEA is involved and colm meaney who's in a Star Trek The Next Generation as the engineer O'Brien like there's a lot of great actors and you just get so mad like it this is the perfect guy film yeah perfect the rock and this they're just the Blake probably some of the biggest guy films on that time yeah you want to do the match up I'll do the match up all right oh I saw both of these in the theater so I'm going to kind of evaluate it by like how I felt when I saw them the first time and I think Conair was my favorite back then I also just love how there is a hairdryer called a book on air oh yeah yes I don't know but Conner is more of a cage movie I think he's the the the main character in this one yeah I think if it's a cage match I'm saying Conner yeah I think I'm going Connie or two I will give props to the rock for having awesome enemy deaths like when they shoot the guy with the rocket yeah [ __ ] candy mangos flung candy man becomes a rocket man yeah it flies out the window and then you have the guy get the [ __ ] nerve gas ball put in his mouth and kicked in yeah yeah and then Kate stabbed himself in the heart with a [ __ ] needle holy [ __ ] but you have the bad guy get deaths in the con air awesome - what's not good this had smashed in like that wasn't cool I think I'm gonna go Connie air also just because when I first saw it I watched it on video I rented it and it was like for that month or whatever it was my favorite action movie and I was like really into it and everything but I I liked it now it's a really fun movie and it's it's it's a good if it's on TV or anything I'll sit watch it and stuff like that it's like watching a video game yeah it really is it's just over the top but it's that 90s over the top that just just works on yeah it is you don't you can't do stuff like it anymore you don't see movies like this anymore again it has action heroes that are not suit like you got John Cusack and it was not he's the kind of like you know you a Fed he's not like anything Toph or anything yes you still be in kind of yeah he's still pretty cool and he's running around shooting guns and fighting alongside everybody you have this element of you know he needs to help his friend there's dire situations there's a lot of plots going on at once but they're all you're hooked on like wanting to know what happens with each one and both movies have a lot of the same theme of like people that want Redemption and that make something good for their family even Sean Connery or otherwise like there's a lot going on I know what speaking of video games I brought up Konami stealing [ __ ] from the 90s yeah in Conair the outfit that the wife and the little girl where are exactly what they were in Silent Hill 2 with Mary and Laura to steam out yeah they just they just took it you were saying to also the rock took a lot from Metal Gear Solid took a lot from the rock with the e/m Kojima ripped a lot from this movie the underwater hydration solet on radar what do you do the first time that Michael Biehn thing was taken because of Metal Gear the original art pictures of Solid Snake with the gun we're just Michael Biehn and Concordia mmm yeah so it sounds like all three of us liked both of these movies but we all chose Conair we did not plan it that way but let us know what you think in the comments and I'm gonna post a Twitter poll right after this video so check that out on my Twitter page and let us know which one you think is the the best cage movie yeah [Music] you [Music]
