to it but it's it's it's a good thing to be in the presence of the lord on this morning our message this morning uh is we're going to talk about the origin of communion we're going to talk about the origin of communion why how come when where did it come from what it's all about and i know that the lord is going to bless you real good the origin of communion when we've been there 10 000 years bright shining as the brightest star will no less day to sing his praise as if we've just begun amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace i need a little more sound right here amazing grace [Music] amazing grace amazing grace amazing grace amazing [Music] [Music] see when you when you deal when you deal with communion we're going to read a little bit about it in a few seconds but when you deal with communion communion is the most sacred act that you can perform or the most sacred sacrament in the church over and above water baptism and one would think that water baptism is the ultimate of ultimate because world baptism is an outward show of an inward work but communion is carrying god almighty on the inside of you it is it is an amazing thing and so we invite the host of heaven to be with us there is something about the holy ghost i can't explain it but i got him i can't explain it [Music] all right you're getting the family together right come on let's let's let's come on all everybody come on in come on [Music] i've got him i've got him i've got him he's got me we've got each other i've got him oh i've got him [Music] i've got him [Music] i got him i've got him oh neighbor i got the holy ghost burning on the inside of me yes i do yes i do yes i do oh i got him i got him when i was a kid coming up i was raised i was raised as a seven-day adventist and i got saved in a pentecostal church when i was coming up as a kid when you talked about communion communion was for a certain group of people in our sda church seventh-day adventist church and when i went to the pentecostal church it was designated for another group of individuals you never seen children taking communion uh until they got maybe to about the age of 12 or 13 or 14 and then you would they would be able to take communion in in our sda church in order to take communion you would have to go through the process of being confirmed so it was a process of being confirmed if you're catholic you would have your first communion the girls are dressed up like brides and the young men are dressed up like grooms and they go before the priest and he gives them their first first communion and so we were taught that the age of accountability was 12 and then above and there was a whole lot of things with regarding communion so a lot of times communion was the smallest attended service because there was um entrapments with the word communion uh you know if you drink it unworthy you drink sickness and damnation to your soul and you could die you could die drinking communion and so people didn't want to fool with that but as little kids you know the church was long we hungry and we wanted a piece of that bread and the drink the little taste of that wine it was welch's grape juice in the pentecostal church but in the sda church it was like straight up wine it was persons who was designated to handle the fermentation of the grapes and prepare that sacrament for for for the service and so the question now comes where did communion come from and um how important is it because here at bethel you know the first sunday of each month is our time of communion but the bible says as often as we do this and if you're catholic you do it in a mass so every time you go to church you go to a communion service except unless there's a gospel service that is going on so i i i want us to take a look at the origin of communion the origin of communion and i want you to be blessed this morning because healing breakthrough and deliverance is coming to every one of you who will honor god by drinking of the cup and eating of the bread and we want to take out all the fear concerning it so that you can get communion services should be the largest service in the church because it's when you carry god with you i own the origin of communion what does it say prelude church teaching places the origin of the eucharist in the last supper of jesus with his disciples at which he is believed to have taken bread and given it to his disciples telling them to eat of it because it was his body and to have taken a cup and given it to his disciples telling them to drink of it because it was the cup of the covenant in his blood while we believe in communion or the lord's supper very little is known or taught about it in our churches in fact the most we know about it is the lord's supper depicted in michelangelo's portrait of jesus and the disciples a lot of fear is centered around the teachings of communion posing the question who should or should not take it and what age should you be if you were to take it commonly known as the age of accountability some say 12 some say 13 some say it doesn't matter any time you get into the tall weeds of some say you get in trouble it is also taught that if you take of it unworthily you bring sickness damnation and even death to yourself imagine that the body and blood of the lord jesus christ that we are told to memorialize carries a death sentence who would want to drink of that so let us have a discussion about the lord's supper when was the first one some say the night in which jesus was betrayed but i believe the first one was abraham and michel zedek the high priest when abraham paid tithe and the high priest served him bread and wine this was after he defeats five armies and comes back with great wealth the second one then would be the night in which jesus was betrayed and he took bread and wine and served it to his disciples the third one is the apostle paul at corinth explaining that which i do this night was delivered also unto me that in the night jesus was betrayed he took bread and wine in all three of these communion services it happened after a war betrayal or disputes and each time the body and the blood of jesus brought peace to the situation that's an amazing thing the scriptures now teach us that every time communion was served communion was served on the back or the wings of a conflict confusion or war so let's take a look at this very very closely the very very first communion i was taught that the very first communion was in the upper room with jesus and his disciples not necessarily so the very first communion is mentioned in genesis chapter number 14 verses 18 uh through 20 and it reads like this and michel zedek king of salem brought forth bread and wine and he was the priest of the most high god and he blessed him and said blessed be abram of the most high god possessor of heaven and earth and blessed be the most high god which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand and he gave him tithes of all so the scriptures tell us that um abraham goes and uh he meets up with melchizedek melchizedek is the high priest mechizadek is jesus in the old testament now the bible says because he had no beginning and no end he had no mother no father and he was the ancient of days so mechizedek is god his jesus in the old testament when abram comes back from the war he pays tithe and melchizedek breaks bread and gives them wine it's the first communion the second communion is in matthews 26 verses 26 through 30 and it reads like this and as they were eating jesus took bread and blessed it and break it and gave it to the disciples and said take eat this is my body and he took the cup and gave thanks and gave it to them saying drink ye all of it for this is my blood of the new testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins but i say unto you i will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine until that day when i drink it new with you in my father's kingdom and then when they had sung in him they went out into the mount of olives so the second communion now is in the night in which jesus was betrayed the first one happened with the war the second one is the night in which jesus is betrayed and the scriptures carries a little bit further than that he didn't only uh break the bread and pour the wine but he also washed feet we'll deal with that in another uh part of this communion series the third communion is in first corinthians 11 23 through 26 and it reads this way for i have received of the lord that which also i delivered unto you that the lord jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread and when he had given thanks he break it and said take eat this is my body which is broken for you this jew in remembrance of me after the same manner also he took the cup when he had supped saying this cup is the new testament in my blood this do ye as often as she drink it in remembrance of me for as often as she eat this bread and drink this cup you do show the lord's death till he come all right so the first one is with melchizedek and and and abram the second one is with jesus and his disciples the third one is the apostle paul when the apostle paul goes he says this what i deliver unto you was also delivered unto me in the night that jesus was betrayed you notice that the apostle paul is at the church of corinth and at the church of corinth they're having a lot of confusion they're saying that women need to keep their mouth shut shut up and don't speak inside the church that has rippled down into our doctrine and into the church world and the scriptures never meant it and never intended for that to be anything with anything uh they were having an issue with head coverings they were having an issue with the praying the speaking in tongues who is filled with the holy ghost and who is not filled with the holy ghost do you have the holy ghost if you speak in tongues you don't have the holy ghost if you don't speak in tongues not realizing that the bible teaches us the three principles of baptism which is wrapped up in communion the first principle is that the holy ghost baptizes us in jesus the holy ghost baptizes us in jesus for the bible says for by one spirit are we all baptized into one body the bible then tells us that the disciples or the preachers baptize us in water go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the father the son and the holy ghost teaching them to to command to observe all things whatsoever i commanded you and the third part of of of baptism is that jesus baptizes us in the holy ghost and when the day of pentecost was fully come they were all in one place and the holy ghost came john says it this way one is coming who is greater than i whose shoelaces i'm not worthy to tie or to untie he shall baptize you with the holy ghost and with fire now this is very very important because many of many of the believers don't understand that when you get jesus you get the whole package whoa when you get jesus you get the whole package now do you get the gift of tongues no that's a gift but you get the holy ghost you got the holy ghost you got the holy ghost you've got the holy ghost you've got the holy ghost in fact just say i got the holy ghost i got i got the holy ghost i got i don't have the hope ghosts i have the holy ghost i have it i know i have it and it helps me it navigates me into all the truth of of god so now let's go back to the upper room on that particular night because jesus is faced with a number of things the first thing is this is that jesus has gathered his disciples together because he perceives in his spirit that uh he's going to go away and he in his humanity is trying to get out of having to endure the bitterness of the cup that he has to take the bitterness of the cup that he has to take so he brings his disciples together and all together they're inside a room and uh he says listen this is uh my body he takes bread and he begins to break the bread in pieces and he begins to distribute the bread now this is not the first time that the disciples seen jesus work with bread in fact the bible declares that they were in a crusade a a open air camp meeting and the evening was coming so the disciple says that the message had weighed long and they went and tapped jesus on the shoulder and he says master the people have nothing to eat jesus turned to them and says well give them something to eat they said master we have nothing but five loaves and two fishes he said bring them to me and jesus took the loaves and yes and he blessed it and then he broke it he blessed it and then he broke it he blessed it and then he broke it the principle of the text is this that if you're ever broken before you've been blessed you'll never be mended back together again okay i know i know i know i left you someplace there are some people who were not blessed to be broken and that's why they remain broken but then there are others the bible says for it pleases the lord to bruise those that he loves so before god allows you to go through a storm before he allows you to go through a crisis he always blesses you and after he blesses you he breaks you and he gives the broken fragments of your life to other individuals and when they begin to see what you're going through they scratch the head can't understand why you're going through what you're going through but you're going through what you're going through for them what are you saying bishop god is giving us a testimony and a testimony is not thanking the lord for your life health and strength food on the table of clothes on your back that's a speech in the storefront church when you're waiting for more people to come a testimony is an undeniable experience that you had with god in the past to sustain you for any present or futuristic difficulties a testimony is doubter and proof that god that brought you out before will turn around and do it again uh the thing that you must understand and understand this very very clearly is that when you have a testimony your testimony is not yours your testimony is for everybody you're going to come in contact with in fact you should say to your neighbor be careful how you deal with me i might be your answer for the bible declares that they overcame by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony that god would trust you with being ripped and torn and fragmented and broken into pieces and tossed out of the hand where people ostracized and criticize and dog you out and then bring you out of it and you'll come in contact with a person who is going through the same thing and the lord glory be to god will release you to tell your testimony then get set free in 10 minutes from what it took you 10 years to go through i might be your answer and so the lord says i want to be in fellowship with you he brings the disciples together but one of the disciples is inside the room and jesus is sitting at the table and i don't know how it works out and jesus says one of you is going to betray me and the disciples begin to go around saying is it i is it i is it i is it i but there was one in the room that knew it was him one that was in the room that knew it was him for he had already went and visited the high priest and had sold jesus out for 30 pieces of silver 30 pieces of silver with 30 pieces of silver in his pocket he asked the lord is it i and jesus said the one that places his hand in the dish to sop with me that is the one who is going to portray in that moment conviction fell on judas judas knew that when he left the upper room he was not going to portray jesus he is going to go back to the priest to get the priest to take back the oath that he had made with them but jesus says i want to seal this in this room because communion will reveal who traitors are communion will reveal where the war is communion will reveal who pays tithes those are the three areas of communion remember uh when abram met with melchizedek he paid tithe and melchizedek gave him wine and bread when jesus got with the disciples judas betrayed them and jesus gave them wine and bread and the apostle paul was having conflict inside the corinthian church and he served them wine and bread and when the disciples had nothing but five loaves and two fishes notice what the text says that jesus blessed the bread broke it and gave it to the disciples the miracle did not happen in the hand of jesus the miracle happened in the hand of the disciples and the more they gave it out the more it multiplied and when it was all done there was 12 baskets of fragments left to take up how many disciples were there there were 12 disciples which means that every pastor every leader that obeys god in distributing that which you have god will allow you to live off of the fragments and god's fragments are is an awesome awesome thing glory be to god in the midst of coronavirus i hadn't been out in one year one whole year and nine months not able to go out and speak and take care of my responsibility but the fragments the fragments he blessed me to be broken the fragments and those fragments allowed me to pay my bills off the fragments allowed the church to stay open the fragments allowed glory be to god for me to purchase a car if i wanted to the black it did all of those things because i had yielded myself to god the problem in the upper room was the disciples had a problem and being jews had a problem with eating man's flesh cannibalism and drinking blood and they came up in a society where human sacrifices were prevalent so they're not trying to figure out what is jesus saying to me are you saying that we ought to eat your flesh and drink your blood we can't do that this is where we get off of the train we're not going into that area with you jesus says no this is a symbol this is a symbol that is often as you do this you do discern discern smell sniff out you do discern and remember memorialize the lord's coming this is important because every time you take communion it reminds you that he went away to prepare a place for you now when people die that's the number one scripture they they they they quote let not your heart be troubled you believe in god believe also in me in my father's house of many mansions if it were not so i would have told you i go to prepare a place for you well that's the wedding scripture that's the red wedding text it's the text that says that the god that allowed us to live in the mansions of god has now gone to prepare a significant place for his bride and when he shows up he's going to move you out of mama's place into his place he says if i go to prepare a place i will come again and receive you unto myself that where i am there you may be also and so they begin to realize that communion was a very very serious thing and how are we to celebrate this service jesus says come on with me and so they went out to the mount of olives and when they got there he says look over the valleys and over the uh the terrain and see and they begin to look he says see he hear all of these stones they shall not be left one upon another that shall not be thrown down and in three days i'm going to build it up they didn't know that jesus was not talking about the physical buildings he was talking about himself how that he was going to die and go into the underworld and in the underworld stay there for three days and rise up with all power in his hand the disciples heard what he said and jesus then poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples feet and he washed disciple 1 all the way down to disciple 10. disciple 10 stopped and said wait a minute here what are you doing he says peter if i don't wash you you have no part with me he said well then give me a bath he says no no you've already taken the bath it's the feet i need to make sure that your feet your mobility of the body is going to carry you into the paths that i'm going to send you into i need to make sure that your feet is washed now this is a ceremonial service i don't necessarily think that we have to have uh poor water in the in in a bucket and wash one another's feet every service but every now and then there's some people who need to be brought down to a place called humility and touching a feet in the bible days meant curses what is the scripture says the scripture said if a man would desire to marry a woman and she decided that she did not want to be married to her for she was not in the first lineage that she should take her shoes off throw her shoe at him and spit him in the face the bible also says that if a woman was going to be received by a man that she could go and put her hands on his feet and that constituted the beginning of the marriage you know that how that the girl went down to the threshing floor where boaz was and touched his feet and when he rosed up he knew that this was the woman that he was supposed to marry feet have biblical significance when the angel of the lord showed up in the valley of giants at jericho he's standing in front of the great big wall and jericho and joshua comes in and sees them he asks them a question are you for us or are you against us and he said nay i am the captain of the host of the angel armies of god in other words i'm not on your side i'm not on their side i'm on god's side and if you're on the lord's side then i'm on your side and the angel then looked at him and said here's the test take off your shoes for the very ground that you walk on is holy this is holy ground the very ground that you stand on is holy and joshua kicked his shoes off glory be to god uh submitting to the to the captain of the angel armies of god and there we have the the the teaching on the significance of feet the bible says woe unto those that run swift with feet swift with feet to carry mischief feet is an important part of the communion fellowship with god now each and every one of you who's been coming to bethel and we have communion and you don't pour into another person's cup uh here at bethel when we do communion we get a cup and uh each person get the cup we eat the bread by ourselves and then we have a moment of fellowship where folks walk around and if you're in conflict with someone or you don't understand someone or you want to uh connect with someone or you want to uh have a prayer partner or you you you enjoy the person it's that moment of fellowship and we walk around and we pour into each other's cups and while the worship is going and the music is playing by the end of the pouring of the cups some people have 25 30 drops of other wine in their cup and then the time comes where we cease and we drink of that of that cup but you can always watch during the communion service there's a few people that never get out of their seat they don't move around they hold the cup themselves they don't fellowship with one another they don't drink out of the out of the cup of fellowship the cuff of suffering the cup of healing the cup of breakthrough the cup of the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness they don't they don't participate in that and sometimes i stand in church and i just watch them how sad that is that you have brought yourself to a place that even in the sanctuary even in church you can't bring yourself to a place of forgiveness or letting some things go and i just watch them and sometimes i go to them and pour into their cup they're pouring the bishop's cup because we like bishop but that sister over there we don't like us island pouring into our cup and the bible says the true test of salvation has nothing to do with how much tongues you speak in or dance or run around the building the true test of salvation is the love that you have for your brother the bible says that if your brother offends you seven times 70 forgive him daily daily which means that the person's got to be close enough to you to offend you again for you to forgive him for him to defend you again to forgive him to defend you again to forgive him that's it i don't have that grace but but i'm working on it and you should be working on it also so there are five reasons why i believe that as we're coming back into the building together five reasons why i believe you should take communion i want to do this quickly because my time is running out five reasons why you should take communion reason number one it renounces sin in the life of the believer by embracing the finished work of jesus on the cross it renounces sin in the life of the believer by recognizing the finished work of the cross let me make this plain and clear the apostle paul did not meet jesus in the flesh but he met him in the spirit but the apostle paul says that he was crucified with christ he said it this way he says i'm crucified with christ not i but christ that lives in me and the life i now live i lived through the faith of the son of god who died and gave himself for me what was he saying he was saying i'm not saved because i believed in god i'm saved because god believed in me and the life i now live i live by the faith of the son of god who died and gave himself for me the first part of communion is that it shows the finished works of christ and the work that he did on the cross in the life of the believer number two it is food for the soul as we spiritually ingest jesus as his blood regens and regenerates us as new creatures we become one with him you've heard the principle of regeneration right well regeneration comes from the word regime now when when when uh nicodemus was in the garden he says how can a man be born when he is old can he enter into his mother's womb the second time and be born and jesus said nay nah nah nah nah except the man is born of the water and that word water is not water baptism is placenta it means that he was physically born which makes him a candidate to be born again except the man is born of the water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of god so he first said except the man is born again he can't see the kingdom and except he's born of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom see born if you're not born again you can't see the kingdom people can talk about jesus all day long you don't understand nothing when you're born again now you can see the kingdom but when you're filled with the spirit of god now you can enter into the kingdom and here's the question how do you enter into the kingdom when you die no the bible says the kingdom of heaven is not meat nor drink but joy peace in the holy ghost whoa i'm in heaven right now somebody's saying i said i'm in heaven right now and those of you that are watching put it in the chat right now say i'm in heaven right now right this minute number three number three he commands us and as we obey to do all that he commands it helps us to stay in covenant with him and other christians who are a part of his body see um i was raised in a in a household that profanity was the preferred language i was raised in the projects and everybody there cussed but no one cursed no one cursed you have a lot of the saints that would never cuss they would never call you a so-and-so but they'll curse you in a heartbeat i'd rather you cuss me out than curse me you so and so okay good and and i know i'm not but may all your children be born blind no i don't want that curse on me i don't want that curse on me communion lines you up with your brother and your sister to put a halt in your spirit when you get angry now let me share this with you because i grew up that way i want to say this and it sounds a little metaphoric but watch this the body remembers trauma and pain no matter how much you try to forget it that's where the word remission comes from the body remembers pain so no matter how much you get away from the pain of your past what have you if you talk to a person long enough they're going to drive you back to it when i was a little girl my mama did this my mama told me this this is what happened to me because the body remembers pain when you're born again god snatches the pain that the body remembers and turns it into a testimony that can be a delivering force in the lives of other individuals who hear you talk i remember mama in a happy way i remember mama went to school with hoes the body does not forget the pain or the trauma doesn't forget it doesn't forget it but when you get filled with the holy ghost and you get saved god compensates you so when you tell the story the pain is not there because the compensation is there the pain is not there because the compensation is there i will restore unto you the years that the kinker worm the palmer worm the praying mantis everything that came against you you about to get it all back [Music] whoa it's about to happen it's about to happen you about to get it all back and you're not going to feel the pain when you remember someone said a long time ago no pain no gain and i believe it number four is that number four number four says this deuteronomy 31 6 says be strong and courageous do not fear or be in dread of them for it is the lord your god who goes with you he will not leave you or forsake you when remembering the lord's death christians also are also proclaiming hope for the future life is in the blood when you take the communion the blood of jesus is running through the core of your system and that's how you regenerate it by the blood of the lamb and number five first corinthians 11 and 26 says for as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup you proclaim the lord's death until he comes it is a reminder that he is coming again next time you partake in communion we do this in remembrance read remember the memorialization proclamation reflection unification and or gratification taking place within yourself and your circle it's time to take communion once person tells you that if you take the communion you're gonna die don't pay them no attention there's a clause in the text says let every man examine himself and so examining himself take the cup remember the first communion abram is coming back from a war the second communion judas is coming back from betraying jesus the third communion the apostle paul is setting the doctrine of the corinthian church in place so communion often realigns when your car alignment is off you're driving straight but the car keeps on veering and you have to tilt the steering wheel to keep it and it's so subtle that if you are not present you start scraping the guard rail well the church is at a place now where we have there so far off that we are scraping the guard rail we need to get back in alignment with god in alignment with the things of god and communion will set an alignment with us so we commune today for uh seven principles seven principles of our communion today in the name of jesus number one prayer for the protection of our children in school one i wait for the screen to come back that's one prayer that our government leaders will stop being politicians and once again become god-fearing patriots number three prayer for the protection of this nation against mass shootings and for gun control my god number four prayer for peace in the mind and the lifting of oppression and depression that has been rising during this pandemic number five financial success in the year of 2021 in the gregorian calendar and 5782 in the hebrew calendar the year of the lord's release leviticus 25 and 8 and deuteronomy 15 and 1. number six godly wisdom in decision making overtaking the vaccine [Music] and number seven prayer for forgiveness anger bitterness betrayal has poisoned our relationships with one another purge me with hyssop and i shall be clean wash me and i shall be whiter than snow psalms 57 and 1. i'm sorry in 7. the ending part of that scripture says make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones which you have broken may rejoice let's pray we do this we do this [Music] in remembrance [Music] we do this in remembrance [Music] we do this in remembrance of between the wings of a champion [Music] father bless the bread which is your body that was broken for us in pieces and the wine which represents [Music] life the blood flowing through our veins every misconception concerning communion wipe it out and bring your body together as we remember you in the name of the lord jesus christ the bread of the lord jesus christ which was broken for you in pieces take and eat all of it [Music] thank you jesus thank you jesus seven things praying for the protection of our children praying for government praying for the protection of our nation praying for the success of our finances in this gregorian and uh hebrew calendar praying for the wisdom of god praying for forgiveness no anger no bitterness no portrayal none of those things take the cup and drink all of it one day when i was lost he died upon the cross i know i know it was the blood [Music] save me everyone needing healing everyone needing healing everyone needing healing the blood is keeping me whoo your blood is healing me your blood is setting me free your blood is bringing me out [Applause] your blood is making a way making away from me right now he was wounded for our transgression and bruised for our iniquity the chastisement of our peace was upon him and by his stripes we're healed oh one day when i was alone whoa he died upon the cross i know it was the blood come on let's give god praise in the building and wherever you at in jesus name amen and amen i pray the anointing of the lord on you today and wherever you are you communed with god between the wings of a cherubim you commune with him you fellowship with him and breakthrough is your portion in jesus name amen he would never put something before you that would kill you when he's trying to bring you to himself communion is the
