The Oregon Trail IRL Challenge

we're taking a childhood favorite computer game to the real world let's talk about [Music] good mythical morning the highlight not of my life but of my fourth grade year miss ever hearts class he was the computer we had a little Apple Computer in the corner and the only thing we ever did on it the entire year was play Oregon Trail I mean this is a ubiquitous game ever since this inception in 1985 people have been dying from dysentery and loving it losing axles all types of things so great if you don't know about the Oregon Trail historically it doesn't matter that means you haven't played the video game so you don't know about the video game a player assumes the role of a wagon leader guiding his or her party of settlers from Independence Missouri to Oregon's Willamette Valley on the historic Oregon Trail that's right via a covered wagon in 1848 the first game didn't come out at 8:40 1848 that's when the actual history happened right 1985 first game came down came out it came down and came down I'm on the trail right now whoops so no shorter than 13 different versions no fewer and my choice of words is not exactly right here just talking in 1800s speed shorter than third version of Oregon Trail exists you can play all of them but what we thought of was we've never played Oregon Trail in real life and we did and here it is the Oregon Trail and real-life challenge the covered wagon race our mission is to get out west before the other guy I'm the other guy taking our claim and bringing as many members of our party safely along for the ride you get five points if you win the race plus one additional point for every party member it's still with you in my party I've got my wife wagging Keyshia my son patches my other son Teddy and my daughter darling is that your wife's given name or is that just a name you gave her that's her given name her first name is wagon well I can teach you it one word in my party I have my girlfriend Carol who refers to me as her traveling companion because I have not yet earned her trust we're also bringing her three kids from a previous traveling companion Rover tiger and Betsy first man to get their stakes his claim bound up yeah we go when we hear the hawk cry [Music] Oh trust your wagon hold on Carol break an arm you must put your arm in a sling before continuing your wife died of dysentery well she's not my wife he's a girlfriend conveniently I have a sling service I'm gonna miss it my bad arm I'm gonna sling it I'm glad you're a small woman I should have stretched I take care your kids Carol I treat them as my own I don't water toward the river Lovett Carol my girlfriend and traveling companion I'm sorry you died of dysentery I really wish that lost it it's kind of broken but I'm come on push through it but jord the river board the river I think I put a hole in the riverbank I gotta win this race and ox wanders off carry your extra wood before continuing your wagon breaks an axle remove the broken axle and repair with one from your supplies [Music] boots are not made for running piece me with you got a new one [Music] [Music] you got me about half a wagon wheel I thought going feuding the river Jordan Ford in the river Jordan you get 5 points 5 points and I've got wagon Keisha Teddy patches and Darlene all still with me for a total of nine points Carol died of dysentery so I get two point two points my condolences three points yeah no no you get a you got one right there and as you can see your stepdaughter when she fell out at the last second she did cross the finish line you know what I'm feeling generous I'm gonna give you a point because she technically fell out after the finish line but your son your stepson did not make it he's next to the wheel tiger and is that Carol sticking up out of the ground that's their feet Brett Leeds link nine to two well to the hunt now that I've staked my claim I got to rustle up some grub I'm in the mood for some venison that would be me you will be running through a course dodging my bullets but you have to stop at three different stations for five seconds each there's a drinking station and eating station and a potty station so I got a campout for five seconds five selfie yes let's get this over with I'm so ready for this [Music] it looks like I got you 19 times oh man I felt every single one I predict you shall fill more than that okay let's do it turn the tables all right Rover ready to get some bear [Music] yeah [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right how do you feel I'm tired you got me in the ear hole yeah that's right I was aiming for your ear hole the hole I'm sorry to protect my head if you didn't notice I stuck it in the picnic basket that leaves link 28 to 24 on to round 3 panning for Nuggets now it's time to make a living paying in for Nuggets but are you talking about gold nuggets I'm talking about chicken nuggets in a vat of barbecue sauce we have to use our little skillets to pan for chicken nuggets scoop them up and eat them fully eat them don't cheat on me now all right one point down my curtsy yeah I don't know he might hide it somewhere one point per ton I get may the best nugget eater win one last thing to mix it up we got some special great nuggets in there too oh yeah and their expansive nuggets three points of peas 3 2 1 nothing what oh it's Flora's fault - you don't have any yet check it - there's a great haha great that's five for me oh man this loss is so overwhelming Oh mmm I'm trying to find a grape but I'll eat it nugget in the meantime another nugget for me sick no and the winner of the Oregon Trail in real life challenge is Rhett well you won fair and square I guess I'll head elsewhere to stake my claim just putting their land around here you could be my neighbor you and Rover could probably stay in a barn for a while no I'll just go this way and you're in the market for a woman now hear this he buried the other one that's right dysentery
