THE ONE PANTRY ORGANIZATION HACK THAT ACTUALLY WORKED FOR MY MOM | FRUGAL FIT MOM

oh mom is that a sock you're gonna get a big kick out of that christine ready okay so you were over at my house a couple of weeks ago we were in the kitchen and for some reason you went in the pantry and you said you said what's going on in here and i just burst out laughing because i know exactly what you're talking about it's just unorganized i don't know what to do with it i feel overwhelmed and then you suggested us doing this video and i jumped on that big time you just pounced yeah that's right on that my question to you is how did you know that i didn't want it like that there were things on the floor when there's so much stuff on the floor that you can't walk into it i know there's a different issue there you had things in multiple places like you had popcorn yeah like over here on the left yeah and here in front of you and over on the right up and down in like four different locations there's popcorn it was like you went ch with the popcorn i don't think she has a system she likes here i've never liked organizing pantries so i just have never been able to do it the way i works for you yes works for me i think maybe we feel like it has to look like this box way for it to be right but guess what i don't fit in a box right and you don't fit in a box no it just has to make sense for you it has to make sense for me and it's a system that you probably tweak over time so whatever we do today you're going to be tweaking well my goal in life as far as pantry life this is your life goal yeah my life goal as far as pantries are concerned is to never have anybody go in there and say what's going on what is going on in here let's go tackle this all right let's do it [Music] okay mom the tips that i have been given as far as organizing in a way that's not overwhelming is to start with the obvious stuff which is garbage okay what is in here that is garbage there's extra bags there's extra plastic that kind of thing we're gonna get that out and put it where it goes first okay sound good mm-hmm okay so what's what's all these bags all these grocery bags where do they go they need to go to recycling the target bags you have to keep i know they're really good they're really good so you can put those there you didn't even take it there go take it there i'll save your target bags [Music] we have drinks like this like this that my mom has a refrigerator or beverage cooler in the butler's pantry so we are actually going to unbox them and put them there alexa play sugar cult [Music] time for a beverage [Music] let me ask you about paper towels would you love for that to be somewhere else yeah because we can reallocate most of this to your storage room in the basement you could put two on a shelf two on a shelf and the rest go to your storage room yeah yes okay yep okay so i'm thinking some of these bottom areas are probably going to be good for cleaning products and things like your food saver food saver bags trash bags but the problem is there's too much stuff in front that we can't get to them okay we're gonna put this cookie cookie cutter bin right here up on top because we don't need it that often crepe station waffle maker can go up there i don't know food mill yes that can go up there citrus juicer leave the citrus leave it but the rest can go up okay we're going to move those up right now also going to grab this and put this on top as well oh it's very heavy why do you have a texas roadhouse box that's garbage my mom definitely likes to shop in bulk as you can see here with the baggy area she's a big fan of the costco so she definitely wanted all of these items and she wanted to be able to see all of them and also have them all in one location so i tried to organize them in such a way that makes sense like like items with like items like sizes with like sizes and this is kind of what we ended up with she seems to like it and we got stuff off the floor i see a big stack of bags we already addressed the baggage no these bags these bags oh how come what would i use them for you could cut them out and make cool uh artwork i'm gonna get rid of them okay love to see it i've learned when dealing with my mom and and probably other people although i've never really helped other people do this before is i give her an option like you could do this or you could get rid of it and then if she says she wants to keep it i just let it go but i was really proud of her for getting rid of those bags what what what wait but there's more bags look look at the when did you oh mom that's from a long time is it though when was the last time anybody went to abercromber are you keeping this for personal reasons no not me let's toss that mom stop looking at the boy mom but this is such a good bag okay here's what we're gonna do with it i got an idea bring it back art okay that's really funny but i had a different idea the grandkid cups are taking up all this room down here at the bottom let's put them in the man bag there's more bags are there get rid of all of those bags look at how old this hobby lobby bag is it's starting to fade oh my gosh it's gone it's gone you're gonna get a big kick out of this christine it's more bags yeah can i please get rid of these yeah put them out there oh it's dirty it's a dirt oh it's a dirty sock oh black [Music] has this been in this box the whole time you've lived in this house yes so have you been using a bread maker yeah i have this other little one you have one that you are currently using because you like it better uh it's smaller and also i've lost the manual to that and i can't find one online for it okay it's not serving you well at the moment no i'm not using it so i'm okay with you keeping it in the storage room yeah as you ponder grandchildren moving out maybe they'd want one in a couple years but it's not serving you here in the pantry now no to storage right yes i agree yes i concur okay oh it's it off it goes back in the corner yes the food grinder grain mill dude i like the one you gave to me yes okay so why don't i take them and because i'm saving them all for haley oh okay so i will there you go i'm taking these to go with the old kitchenaid for haley right okay mom you took the clutter bug quiz and as it turns out you are a butterfly butterfly which means you want to see everything yes because if i don't see it i'll forget what i have right so what we've done so far is cleaning products are on the bottom non-food appliances um extra paper towels and trash bags on this first bottom shelf not used very often items on the top so we have like your working area here right in this middle section so what i want you to do is think about where are my flowers and baking items going to be grouped where are my canned good items going to be grouped these are like categories broad categories that we can kind of put like items into areas that make sense based on what they are i've lived here for a while now so i would have to say when i come in here most often i'm getting baking stuff probably this stuff canned goods yes and nuts and what almonds almonds almonds wait wait wait you have almonds here and here yeah because no that's why you're here here here here almonds here almonds here almonds here okay we'll figure it out that's why you're here so there are some products that we can purchase to help visually a little bit i use these in my pantry i like that because it's huge it's huge and it works like a drawer i love that where did you get it walmart so we're gonna go to walmart in a little bit and maybe maybe hit up a little bit of lunch poo i like that okay i like that um and get some wire shelving see if we can find these i have one for sauce let's go let's go now let's go do it now okay i think we have cleared them out of all of their kitchen storage containers there was only one of these we took the one and only here are the large multi-purpose bins that i like to use in my pantry now mom's gonna use them this is the sticker they only had six we took all six so let's go check out we ended up at panda express for lunch they don't have any vegetables zero we're back with some bins so i'm gonna make some broad categories while my mom is off making some labels so she knows what is in each one what's great about these is you can mix and match and change them whether you like the way they're done or not this part of the process to me was definitely the hardest and took the longest it wasn't hard it just took the longest trying to figure out what would fit in each bin where each pin would go and then how my mom wanted it to be on the shelf but with some trial and error we figured it out sauce pasta pasta okay and clearly you don't need to buy any pasta no because because you're full now we have grandkids snack bin okay to clear some space i'm making a bin for specialty baking items buckwheat flour sprouted white wheat flour dark brown sugar light brown sugar artisan bread flour some more specialty sugars and then this goes with breakfast instead of with baking this is empty mom you're supposed to have dark brown sugar in this one it's kind of cool you soaked that in water oh yeah so it was too moist it fermented oh so i opened it up and it smelled like alcohol oh i didn't even know i had these what is it do you like butterscotch or beer both okay let's try them okay i do like a butterscotch does that make me like an old grandma because i like it if you want to be an old grandma let me taste it okay okay the pressure oh my gosh that's good and they're good okay here when you get it like okay when you get ready here's the root balls it's so good where'd you get these okay i have to i don't remember but i have to put them somewhere safe where does the lifetime supply of chocolate oranges go we've already made huge progress look at this baking section on the left what do you think about that i love it looking at the nuts please don't buy any more nuts okay okay [Music] but that's not all i got that one and that one we are finishing up the last few steps i got out those wire shelves the adjustable like extendable wire shelves from walmart were really really helpful i was able to place all of her goods in such a way that she could see all of them because if she doesn't see them she's gonna forget that she has them and then buy more and then she'll have too much there'll be too much inventory to manage so this ended up working really well [Music] what do you think i'm in love with it i'm going to marry it no i am super psyched i you have no idea i did not want to come in here matter of fact when you came here today didn't i have a bunch of yeah groceries on the island because i didn't even want to venture in here yeah you like the island was full of groceries they're all in here yes and there's still room i'm over the moon seriously thank you you thought we were gonna con condo marie this sucker take everything out create an overwhelming mess in the kitchen and then only keep it if it brings you joy yeah but that is not what we did i don't want joy i just want it to work i am not interested we probably didn't start until 11 we spent two hours at walmart and eating lunch yeah so we probably only spent two hours total on here i love it what's great what was the hardest part for you i just hate it there's so many decisions when you do something like this and they can be stressful that's why it's helpful to have fresh eyes right i like looking at it as do i use this item enough to keep it easily accessible that is very helpful to me if you use it less than once a month it goes somewhere else right you put stuff up here on this top part that she doesn't need that often everything she needs is here right well i can tell by look it looks so different it doesn't even look like look we can dance on the floor look at that i can sleep in here tonight get your sleeping bag and arrow bed and get them in here absolutely this is all the stuff i'm taking with me since uh mom doesn't have recycling in her neighborhood actually so i'm gonna be recycling all not those but everything else i'm taking with me and it's getting out of here what was the most surprising that it was easy oh interesting because i've never done it this way this is a totally different way of organizing and it was funny how i kept finding stuff i didn't know i had that i know you were like wow this i didn't know i had why is this in here like your drink station at the bottom here can we just talk about all it doesn't matter what anybody wants to drink when they come over here you've got them covered pretty much you want star nice tea we gotta shut up you want chamomile rose tea yes like these large bins i love these these are a game changer in my opinion that's how i felt when i put them in my pantry i felt like they changed everything yeah and then what do you think about these these like wire shelves so far i'm loving it okay because you can see it because you love it i'm out there jerry how what do you think of this lazy susan over here i think that works good i think it's good too yeah i think it's good too one serious question yes why so many cup of noodles well you know i do have some grandchildren that love these yeah matter of fact they were here this weekend and i'm sure they ate like four or five [Laughter] all right well thanks again i didn't do anything mind-blowing in here no you didn't but you're you're the queen of the pantry man absolutely thanks for letting me help you thank you i
