same time doing two sermons last week bishop came from raising royalty and parental peer pressure and pastor lj came with don't count me out and don't get too big for your breeches or britches uh you know how we say it britches so uh both the both both of the uh the eight and ten were both amazing uh we had a great time um and we're looking forward to more of that today and just in case you weren't here on last sunday or you didn't get a chance to tune in we want you to go ahead and check out this recap and we'll be right back so we can tell you a little bit more about what's going on around here and i got a special guest when we come back so stay tuned [Music] i want to challenge every mother every father every grandparent right now start looking deeper in your child start looking deeper in your grandchildren [Music] the whole time i'm just doing what i feel like i'm supposed to do god got a samuel dr chan that he sent to jesse [Music] told jesse to come on to the sacrifice because i just selected one of your sons to be the site pastor of the mount poison [Music] well we are back and i am not alone i am here with minister eulesse how you doing this morning ma'am doing fantastic it's early but i'm here praise the lord listen no one is on 100 normally but minister elise is always on 100 even at the crack of dawn so if you don't have any energy this morning just stay tuned for about 20 more seconds and you gonna have plenty of it all right so look so y'all had the opportunity to do some back to school stuff um could you just kind of tell me about it real quick just like what y'all did for some of our kids our teens and our children we had a back to school old school house party now we had it virtually but it was wonderful we had dance contests we had pick up the pieces where the kids showed us what they were wearing for the day and we were able to bless five children with five hundred dollars to go shopping for back to school such an awesome moment nice nice nice well you know what we say around here church is supposed to change lives so look check out this video of the shopping sprees and some of the parents and the children and what they had to say about the shopping sprees right now my name is jordan brown i'm 12 years old and i'm in the seventh grade [Music] it felt strange because i never shot like that with anything i was happy very very happy though saturday we got a chance to go to the stores and pick out what she wanted she was trying to bargain shop and these type of things and i'm not sure if i can get this like hey get what you want you know this is what this opportunity was about so very exciting for us and we're just trying to tell her enjoy the moment so that's what that was about for us it was it was truly a blessing um having jojo be able to just you know get the 500 to go shopping on her own and i really let her go on her own but it was just a blessing to our our house you know just with finances um with my medical bills it was a blessing that i didn't have to worry about getting her her clothes for this year or her shoes for this year yes well it was very helpful um we have three other three older daughters uh that's in school right now to it two in college and one in grad school so we just got in the third one off the school and that's when this came about so i mean the timing couldn't be more perfect so because i was trying to figure out how to you know how much scramble to pay for this and that and get her school books and clothes all that at once and the lord just blessed us we have four girls they are the ones that brought us to the mouth every sunday morning you know we're going to our family church no mom we don't want to go there we want to go to the mouth and so literally they are the ones that got us here um it's been a blessing you know in so many ways with my marriage um just with my kids um you know one of my daughters you know she's like only bishop you know i just want to hear bishop um jojo you know she still can go to children's church but her thing is my i want to hear bishop i understand what he's saying so um it's just been a blessing all around just everything you know the calls that i get the prayers every week yeah it's amazing i'm very thankful for all the people that were able to give up me and my family this opportunity with the 500 thank you thank you very much yeah i just want to thank uh bishop elder uh and everyone to the mount family uh thank you for helping us uh it's been a big blessing to the brown family i just i just want to thank everyone that was involved with this um through the youth church and just our bishop the first family um i just want to thank y'all from the bottom of my heart because this truly was a blessing i didn't think i needed it but i did so thank you so much [Music] it has impacted me greatly it's always a blessing to get extra funds towards your child's school supplies and clothes they came at a perfect time as well and i didn't expect it but they're blessed they always win something so it helped us help me out tremendously oh i was very excited and i felt honored that i got the opportunity to go on a 500 shopping spree as bishop would say thank you for the benevolence of all the partners here and around the globe we really appreciate you thank you [Music] it was really exciting because when i i never noticed that i was going to win a 500 gift card so it was really exciting to me because my mom knew that i was going to win it because we was on a back to school zoom and the first name that popped up was my mom's name so she was like we won we won so we went to the mall and we went to four different stores to get all my all my clothes and shoes for back to school and i already got all my stuff for back to school so that's that's good we were able to go to should have took about 30 or 45 minutes to be able to do it but with all the coupon that i do we spent two and a half almost three hours in the mall and all the stuff she needed seven outfits for three pair of shoes one had to be ordered um they she loved it it was a it was she was just going from store to store h m jimmy chess whatever and she just had a really good time so it really impacted us a lot because i have uh three i have three other children dirty at home so in my two sons with autism so one is that the um is that uh internship at chesapeake regional so i had to get new uniforms and new resistance shoes for him and so that helped me so that i didn't have to worry about her clothing so i could concentrate on my two sons with autism to get their clothing together so it really helped us out a lot so we love you guys it was exciting to me because um mr patrick was there and minister um eulisse was there and that was really cool because i really got excited and i almost cried because it was really really amazing to me so um yeah it was just kind of awesome so yeah i want to say thank you bishop elda val who's my best el davao ever um and the mount family i just wanted i mean i think this is a great opportunity for you guys to actually see us because since we're not together as uh in the build you know in the building it's good to actually see where your tithing your offer and go to so you know i know you pay your tithe you pay your offering and you see exactly where it's going to so thank you guys for making sure that my daughter has school clothes this year and she was able to get a couple of notebooks from claire's boutique also thank you my family we're here at the mount church is supposed to change lives and we had the opportunity to change five young people's lives doing the shopping spree for back to school but at this time we have some very special guests in the building so what i would like to do is throw it over to senator spruill and he'll introduce everyone else and we'll get ready to go into service after these special guests are done first of all i want to make sure how about that now that's good thank you so much again to us we have before our governor uh i want to thank the the bishop of this church and god our father who loves us being here today we're here with us today first of all a member of this church who is running for re-election in the 7th district delegate cliff hayes bridget haines we're here with us also who's running for the commonwealth attorney in the city of chesapeake sherlock woods presents we have a thousand owl lieutenant governor who remembers us this year holla hayala who will bring pollution to governor and that's with us today and now it's my pleasure to bring to you this person who has made virginia better than what it is i'm going to tell you that he he managed to best state while he was governor best state to do business when he was governor restoration that's why he was doing the governor so we said to him that you has to come back because we truly believe you can do great things for the state of virginia please welcome our friend honorable to mcculloch thank you senator sproul and thank you for all the great leadership and to all the folks who are with me today and let me first of all thank bishop kim brown for the great work and elder valerie for all the great work i love the mount the last time i was here i was on mother's day when i was running in the primary and i was able to win the primer i won every city and county first time in 80 years i'm giving full credit to the mount for that so thank you for that i'm running for governor to lift up virginians i got recruited to come back as senator sproul said by you know a majority of the black caucus and other individuals came to me and said you know terry when you were governor before you got us out of economic chaos you lifted people up you restored more felon rights than any governor in us history more pardons than any governor before me record investment in education we now have covid which has been so devastating for so many virginia families we need you to come back and lift folks up again and that's why i'm running for governor again and i'd love your support holla would love your support shelley love your support cliff and lionel and everybody else this is a very important election the election is november 2nd but early vote starts this friday so this friday you have 45 days to go do early vote and i really encourage everybody to come out if you get a chance go to terry 4 virginia i have my whole plan i have 20 plans of how i'm going to lift up virginia i want to see us take off like a booster rocket here my biggest plan education i'm going to invest 2 billion dollars in education we've got to raise teacher pay i promise you as governor for the first time in virginia history we will pay our teachers above the national average today we rank 50th out of 50 states on average teacher pay as relates the average pay of our citizens virginia should never be 50th in any category we should be the top we should be the best we're the 10th wealthiest state in america why are we 50th on teacher pay i will raise our teacher pay for the first time ever as i say above the national average i will make sure all 41 000 at risk three and four-year-olds get access to pre-k and i promise all of you i will get broadband for every single citizen here in the commonwealth of virginia here we had covid how unfair is that during covid when you have to have online learning and yet 14 of our students could not access the internet because they didn't have broadband fiber that's not fair that's inequity and that's an equity i'm going to fix for you i promise you that i also want to take care of the health needs i've fought like a dog for medicaid expansion i did it before i'll do it again we have 700 000 virginians without quality health care here in virginia including 100 000 children i'm going to be the first state in america to make sure every citizen gets quality affordable health care education affordable health care and make sure we're leaning in on affordable housing i have big bold plans i did it before i'll do it again but it will not happen if you don't vote and i'll just say this my opponent glenn younkin who's running he says so much of the reason he's running is because of donald trump well folks so much of the reason i'm running is because of you donald trump has endorsed him three times but the scariest thing for all of us is his economic plan which has now been criticized by all the papers in our state the washington post roanoke times his economic plan would take 10 billion out of education right here in chesapeake we would see 2 000 teachers cut now that's not what we want here he's against raising the minimum wage he's against paid sick days he's against family medical leave i'm for all of that and we're going to get all of that done so folks i'm excited early vote starts this friday you have 45 days to vote let us work together help me win help holla become lieutenant governor is so important and mark karen become our attorney general we've got to get shelly woods in there as our commonwealth attorney and cliff hayes back in the house it is so important thank you to the mount i've had years of friendship with you get out there and vote we have to show with the greatest democracy in the world and it won't happen if you get out there and vote thank you very much and may god bless you thank you governor mcauliffe and thank you to all of the guests that came today um it is it is really our obligation to get out and vote so regardless we can't tell you who to vote for but what we can tell you is to get out and vote and so we thank everyone for coming in today we thank you for your time look it is time for service so look we're gonna do two things this side of heaven along with the first daughter why don't you give it up for first dr kimberly brown and elder doctor valerie k brock good morning good morning good morning mount family we are so excited to be here with you wasn't praising worship this morning i mean i know i i mean it'll take you right in they did this morning they started us off basking in his glory and then they told us how desperate we are lord god we are so so desperate for you to come on in god take over god the world is a mess god but we know that because you are everything god because you are more than anything god we know that with you on our side all things are possible guys so we thank you for always up for us always time after time after time as minister earl said season in season out dangerous scene and unseen god we thank you for being a good good father well good morning mount family we're excited to be here with you this morning we won't be before you too long but we want to remind you of a couple of things so of course we thank you all as hopefully you got to see the video at the start of worship where we celebrated those winners of the back to school shopping 4500 each that had to be fun i mean listen if you give me five hundred dollars i'm gonna blow a kid in the candy shop oh my goodness i can go anywhere get anything i want but it is because of partners like you that partner with us here at the mount that we are able to do things like that so we ask that this sunday this week is no different than any other that you continue to partner with us and we pray that god returns your seed your sacrifice your tithes you're offering a hundredfold can you just imagine the impact those children must feel now going to school after having absolutely i know they'll always oh wait you'll always remember and what's what's even more special about moments like that is it's not just the winners it's not just the children that benefit the parents even those volunteers from the mount that took them you know that's impactful it is you know it makes you feel good so we hope you feel good absolutely i felt good watching it you know that's my church i helped make that happen absolutely and we know that um the last couple of weeks we've had you know the hurricane idle relief efforts have begun and you know we are always trying to support here at the mount so we are this week gonna going to partner up excuse me with bishop paul morton church you know they do have a ministry in the louisiana area and so we are going to team up with them as bishop would say they are our boots on the ground making sure that those in the community get the help that they need so if you feel led this morning as bishop would say no stress no strain no struggle but if you feel led this morning you can select the seed option on our website on text to give and sew whatever you would like to sow into that relief effort and all of it absolutely we'll go every dollar every penny that you give will go directly to bishop so that he can help the community absolutely directly to his ministry and so we ask that you do ear market hurricane relief or ida or hurricane something to let us know that you are designating those funds for that relief effort and you've heard it all morning i'm going to whisper because it's a it's a lot let you lose your ears y'all i'm so so so so excited because this week starts the kickoff as we celebrate bishop and elders 31 years in ministry only at the mount literally only at the mountain so we've got a star-studded lineup but we know the great star of all jesus christ is going to be here he's always here in our presence and so i think there's a video that's going to tell you more [Music] this is anita blanton and i have your breaking news this just in the mount global fellowship of churches celebrates 31 years of ministry for bishop kim w brown elder valerie and the family with the legacy continues anniversary celebration the legacy continues will be a weekend of fun and festivities september 17th through the 19th 2021. it's going to kick off on friday with a legacy concert featuring winners of b-e-t sunday best melvin chris bell the third what up culmination of the weekend will be a worship experience featuring b-e-t sunday best winner jeffrey golden and internationally renowned speaker and stellar award winner pastor mike mcclure jr don't miss this virtual weekend celebrating ministry favor and growth for more information visit www.themountleads.org [Music] i can't help but be excited for this countdown just think it's next week this time that this will actually be happening starting friday night friday so please lock in put that on your calendar put it on your phone any kind of reminder you do not want to miss this weekend i am excited about it and you know bishop and i are already sending our thank yous our well wishes that y'all even think enough of us to want to celebrate in this way with us so we're gonna barney body celebrate all right all right i know we're excited about the countdown but y'all say okay you don't get enough of that enough of that we tuned in this morning because after last sunday i know everybody got their coffee already had their breakfast and are waiting waiting part two absolutely a relatively speaking that's right our very own bishop and pastor lj from the mount poison i'm telling you they are ready for part two i mean they use the prodigal son last week absolutely and i'm telling you i learned some things and different perspectives on that story you know that's one that's been preached a lot of times a lot and bishop even hit us at the very beginning said i bet you've never even looked up the word particle yeah that guy and that was me cause kimberly and i were sitting at some wayward i mean he was bad he was bad he was a bad child and that's not what that meant i know i know so we're we're excited about what we're going to learn today and we're going to hear about another father-son story out of the bible and once again it's going to come from the father perspective bishop brown and then from the son's perspective pastor lj from the mount at portsmouth so without further ado i'm gonna pray because i know some nerves might be jittery and we want to make sure that nothing is in the place but the holy ghost amen so that we can hear a word from on high let us pray the lord our heavenly father god we are just excited that you have planted such gifts here at the mount and we sit in great anticipation of the word that's going to come forth we say all the time that you left the bible so that it will be a message to us on all the lessons that you want us to learn but lord god i think the biggest lesson that we've learned last sunday and even this sunday is what we truly really already knew but needed to be reminded a little bit and that is that we need to read our bible all the time because every time there's a new nugget there's a new revelation that comes forth that the holy spirit if we will allow will plant deep within our soul and our spirit so that there will be seas there that will grow and because of that lord god we know you've given a word to the bishop and to pastor lj on this moment so we ask that none of them but all of you will show forth in the word that they are about to give us on this morning so right now lord god we thank you we thank you we thank you we sit back and we ask you to sit back and be proud of your servants that are about to give us this word and all who in agreement that all of the holy spirit will show forth through bishop and pastor lj are saying what praise the lord praise the lord praise the lord proverbs 1 8 my child listen when your father corrects you don't neglect your mother's instruction genesis 22 1-18 sometime later god tested abraham's faith abraham god called yes he replied here i am take your son your only son yes isaac whom you love so much and go to the land of moriah go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which i will show you the next morning abraham got up early he saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him along with his son isaac then he chopped wood for fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place god had told him about on the third day of their journey abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance stay here with the donkey abraham told the servants the boy and i will travel a little farther we will worship there and then we will come right back so abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on isaac's shoulders while he himself carried the fire and the knife as the two of them walked on together isaac turned to abraham and said father yes my son abraham replied we have the fire and the wood the boy said but where is the sheep for the burnt offering god will provide a sheep for the burnt offering my son abraham answered and they both walked on together when they arrived at the place where god had told him to go abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it then he tied his son isaac and laid him on the altar on top of the wood and abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice at that moment the angel of the lord called to him from heaven abraham abraham yes abraham replied here i am don't lay a hand on the boy the angel said do not hurt him in any way for now i know that you truly fear god you have not withheld from me even your son your only son then abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in the thicket so he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son abraham named the place yahweh yira which means the lord will provide to this day people still use the name as a proverb on the mountain of the lord it will be provided then the angel of the lord called again to abraham from heaven this is what the lord says because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son your only son i swear by my own name that i will certainly bless you i will multiply your descendants beyond number like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies and through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed all because you have obeyed me wow well praise the lord i'm excited today because if you tuned in last week you know that we are ministering a blended sermon together from the subject relatively speaking for the whole series but today i want to start and introduce my portion of the blended sermon with a quick story you know i'm a storyteller when my daughter was a teenager she had a major health challenge and i remember riding behind the ambulance on the way to the hospital and my son pastor lj said daddy we need to pray but i was so angry at god because i couldn't believe he was letting this happen to my family to my daughter that i told him you pray i don't have anything to say to god and guess what riding behind the ambulance that day this brother prayed and god heard his prayer i want to minister to you today from the subject based upon the story of abraham and isaac i want to approach it through the lens of the father abraham from this subject the legacy of faith you know what we're going to leave our children houses we're going to leave our children money we're going to leave our children cars i wonder how many fathers are going to leave their children faith yeah around the world right now it's more than just houses cars money i want to make sure that when they roll me down the aisle and put me in the ground that i have left for the next generation of legacy of faith [Music] well good morning good morning um once again bishop as i said last week is definitely an honor um to be here and share the platform with you um so i wanted to thank you and uh elder for this opportunity it's greatly appreciated so thank you all that's you man um the title for the conversation from the sun's perspective this morning at the 8 o'clock service is understand the assignment understand the assignment some of you all may some of you all may not know understand the assignment today currently it's it's kind of like a popular phrase now it's like a it's a thing that that everyone says and a quick example like ladies y'all might be getting ready to go out y'all going somewhere y'all group of ladies y'all going to an event y'all going to a function and uh you might be out somewhere y'all see somebody and her fit she put her fit together just right based upon the event and based upon the function um that y'all are going to and the comment or the phrase that would be said amongst you all in the group is she understood the assignment or fellas there might be a time something around the house need to be broken and it ain't time to be cute you're going to have to get ugly you're going to have to get dirty you're going to bear to stay you know in your suit and you're in bed you know when you get home you're going to have to change clothes and get down right dirty your hands might be dirty your face might get dirty and whatever it was you had to do whatever it takes to get to get the job done and you did just that and the phrase normally is he understood the assignment and i love that phrase today because no matter what area or no matter what aspect of life that we're talking about there's always a need to understand the assignment and i believe there's some things today in this story that's going to help us to do just that you know what the reality is this if we're going to leave our children a legacy of faith if when we leave the earth we want the next generation to operate with a faith perspective you know what we're going to have to learn how to do as parents as fathers i dare say watch this i'm gonna start off by jumping in the deep end of the pool i want to suggest that everything that's wrong in the world today i can trace back to parenting you name a social ill that's wrong in our society now i can trace it back to parenting gangs parenting racism parenting because you know what we're not leaving a legacy of faith the nuclear family has broken down and parents have abdicated their responsibility and i want to suggest that the first thing i saw in the scripture if i'm going to minister to you from the subject the legacy of faith is that we've got to learn how to display faith it's so amazing that right there in verse 3 and verse 5 it gets crazy it says the next morning abraham got up early saddled his donkey and took two of the servants with him along with his son isaac then he here it is chopped wood i want to ask how many parents out here are chopping wood how many parents out here right now your children see you displaying faith i'm not talking about going to church because going to church is not necessarily displaying faith i want to know are you chopping wood are your children seeing you make a difference for the kingdom are your children seeing you pray are your children seeing you give are your children seeing you sir what i've learned is children that serve in church are usually the children of parents who served in the church and i believe that god is holding us accountable to chop wood in front of our children i want to live my life so that when i'm gone and my children have to make decisions about faith they'll be able to point back at moments and say i saw him chopping wood in fact i can take it a little further i believe this is the will of god that's why deuteronomy chapter 6 verse 9 says to parents write them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates watch this you know what he's trying to get us to see he's talking about the commandments of god and he tells parents write the commandments on the doorpost to your house and on the gate to the house when you come in you know why he wants us to see him when we're coming in the house and he wants us to see him when we're going out i want to ask parents around the world put that in the chat right now how are you chopping wood in front of your children or do they see you make a priority out of everything else are you more connected to all of your other activities than you are the church maybe if you're gonna leave a legacy of faith they gotta see you chopping wood [Music] if you're gonna understand your assignment the first thing you're gonna have to do is you're gonna have to have less talking and more action you're gonna have to have less talking and more action the the one of the first things that stood out for me from the sun's perspective here and i'm gonna i'm gonna discuss abraham just a little bit but from the son's perspective one of the first things that stood out to me was the fact that abraham didn't question god at all it starts out it's sauce i was saying god called out to abraham abraham abraham yeah he said what's up god i'm right here you know that sign that you got that only son that you got the one that you love so much abraham i want you to go ahead and sacrifice him to me as a burnt offering i can't believe that the very next scripture says on the next morning abraham just got up early abraham didn't have nothing to say it didn't say that abraham was like come on god like now you know what did i do to deserve this what the heck what the eyes they do to deserve this you know is it another way that we can make this happen is there anything else that we could do abraham don't say nothing at all and then we know the story abraham abraham first of all we know that abraham and sarah was believing god for years and years and years for saying god had promised abraham and sarah a son and they had been believing and being faithful and standing and being steadfast waiting for that son i'm talking about not just for a few weeks not for a year until about years years and because we do know abraham was 100 years old when he had isaac and sarah won't want no pyt either she was pretty you know she was about 90 years old i mean they had waited years so imagine imagine you know just standing on your faith all these years imagine just being committed and believing that god is going to fulfill his promises all these many years only for him to bless you with it and then turn around and tell you i want you to sacrifice him so after knowing all that after going through all that i wonder how eyes are felt even as a child because i know after and then the other thing is sarah was bearing her whole life right so imagine how isaac had to feel after hearing all this because i know his whole life your mama was burned god had promised us that we was gonna have you and we had to wait all these years and years and years i know he heard that story over and over and over imagine how he felt knowing that after all that happened and then god gave the order and then your daddy don't got nothing to say about it right so imagine that and then and then and then here's the thing after all that abraham didn't do no begging no pleading no talking it just said he got the action and what was the action he got up early he saddled his donkey and as bishop said he chopped the wood he did less talking and got the word he did less talking and prepared himself he did less talking and got everything he needed to complete the assignment most of the time i want to suggest god can't use us because we all so busy with something to say i can't do this because of that i can't do that because it is you know we do we so busy doing all the mind the cracker we trying to figure out everything that god is ultimately trying to do we can't worry about what he's ultimately trying to do you just got to understand your assignment today i can't worry about bishop's assignment are going to do what he supposed to do i can't worry about if the camera lady here got the focus right i can't worry about it this camera doing or what they doing in the sound booth i just got to understand my simon if i understand my assignment and bishop understand his assignment the camera lady and everybody back they understand their assignments and the virtual listeners can have an amazing experience and everything that god is ultimately trying to do can come together seamlessly we just got to be able to understand our assignment wow you know what it's amazing because just this morning we were talking about how we live in a society now where everybody wants to make excuses i know you might be at home right now i'm ready to come back in church and i can't get with this stop waiting for an excuse everything is personal responsibility and i want to suggest to you if you're going to leave a legacy of faith for your children for the next generation for their grandchildren i'm not just leaving a legacy of faith for lj kimberly and keisha i'm leaving a legacy of faith for jackson kennedy kj and here's what i want to suggest to you if you're going to leave a legacy of faith not only do you have to make sure you display faith it's your responsibility as a parent to develop faith i'm getting ready to hit them with one bullet right between the eyes because i guarantee you've never noticed before when they get ready to go up that mountain and sacrifice isaac what's amazing to me is what's found in verse six it says so abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on isaac's shoulders you know what we raised in a soft generation yeah i'm not scared of y'all i'm gonna say it i'm on the stage with my son today we raising a generation that can't carry anything you better learn how to put some wood on john john's shoulder you better learn how to put some wood on little susanna's shoulder so that they can have some fortitude and some strength you can't keep bailing them out i love the fact that abraham says i'm not gonna chop the wood and carry the wood i'm gonna chop the wood but you're gonna have to carry the wood we've got to learn how to put some burden on the next generation i remember as a little boy my mother didn't she went and bought the lawnmower she said i'm not gonna buy the lawn mower and cut the grass i'm gonna buy the lawnmower but you're gonna be out there cutting the grass and i was a little boy cutting the grass and it was such a struggle come on y'all talk to me you know put something in the chat you know it's so hard pushing that the handlebar were way up here and i'm trying my best to push it and then she would have the audacity to come out and say you missed this cut this again we've got to learn how to leave a legacy of faith teach your children how to tie teach your children how to sew teach your children how to serve let them carry some burden for their own faith watch this try verse 22 and six i gotta go there it says train up a child boy i got a revelation this week about training y'all ever watch rocky when you are a trainer you're the person with the whistle you're not the person hitting the heavy bag you're the person that's watching them hit the heavy bag we are not training a generation if you got children right now i need you to understand they should not be in the bed all day and play playstation all night you got to train them you got to blow the wheel so get them up i need some parents to put something in the chat right now and say we got some road work to do we got to hit this heavy bag because when you're gone the worst thing you can leave in society is a weak next generation believer that the enemy can come against and know that the battle is going to be easy i want to raise up a generation that even when i'm gone and the enemy comes he gonna say i don't know who trained y'all but i need to move on to another family because this family wants to fight too hard you gotta fight for your destiny fight for your journey fight for everything we want it too easy and we raising up a generation that doesn't know how to carry wood on their shoulders man bishop that was an amazing setup the second thing that you're gonna have to do if you're gonna understand the assignment is you're gonna have to know how to carry a heavy load you're gonna have to carry a heavy load it says just it tells you just like bishop in verse six it says so abraham placed wood for the burnt offering on asic's shoulders while he himself carried the fire and knife now i want to suggest listen now isaac didn't know this isaac didn't know this but but abraham knew very well where they was on the way to and my thing is abraham sat there knowing that this wood was going to be used for for isaac still made isaac carry the wood and it reminded me a story it's amazing that you got got cut to grab stories i got to cut the grass story myself i remember when i was a young child so it's amazing to hear when he was a young child somebody did this to him as well but when i was a little boy on saturdays bishop used to wake me up early on saturdays and his words were i still hear in my ears his words were come out here and help me cut the grass and then when we would get outside i would notice that i would be doing all the cutting of the grass and bishop was just edging and blowing and i would think to myself man you helping me cut the grass you know i ain't helping you cut the grass you helping me cut the grass and so knowing that i understand that even hearing him now what he really just trying to show me is listen karen sometimes when you understand your assignment it's not gonna always be easy right sometimes it's gonna send you down a rough path sometimes it's going to lead you down an interesting journey you're going to have to carry your own a heavy load and here's why here's where i think the story of abraham and isaac here's where i think their story got interesting because i think the sun started doing a little math and and y'all know me y'all y'all know me i won't i wasn't a real good student i didn't make it to geometry and calculus and trigonometry and all that but i do know how to do simple math i i know how to do simple math and like the sun in the story i think he started putting two and two together because it's saying the storm when they was on the journey he said hey pop oh i see we got the wood and i see we got the fire but we're the sheep at for the sacrifice [Music] and then and then not only were the sheep but why you telling them to over there to stay back behind like why they ain't coming to do a little worship with i think the son personally started doing a little a little math and figured out you know what was going on but the thing about it is abraham had isaac carrying his own heavy load he had him carrying the whole his own burden he had him carrying what was supposed to take him out and the thing that i love about this story because the thing that reminds me that i'm that i'm going to be able to carry this heavy load is because we do know that isaac won the only one that had to carry a heavy load [Music] now i hear the old school preacher i hear bishop saying i do know a man who understood who understood his assignment who had to carry a heavy load who had to carry a burden who had to carry the very thing that was supposed to take him out now i can't pull it like bishop but y'all just go ahead in the chat and put understand the assignment [Music] my god watch this y'all i want you to understand first of all we don't work on the blended sermon together so for that point to come right behind my point has to just be the holy spirit if you're going to leave a legacy of faith for your children for the next generation for the generation after them number one you got to learn how to display faith and number two you got to learn how to develop faith here's what's amazing that pricked me when he was ministering right then abraham got servants y'all he could have had the servants cut the wood he could have had the servants carry the wood but he didn't want to create a whole generation of weak believers because of the favor that was on his life some of us right now the greatest blessing and the greatest curse in your life has been your prosperity because now that you are prosperous your children don't know how to work for a living now that you are prosperous they think jordans just fall out of the sky and nikes are just whatever you need from the store the reality is if we're going to leave a legacy of faith for the next generation we've got to learn how to declare faith did you hear where pastor lj just left off he is exactly right isaac starts peeping the whole card of abraham in fact i want to suggest that the reason why mrs abraham sarah is not there because you know sarah would have probably shut this down you ain't about to sacrifice my baby sometimes you got to be a real man i'm gonna leave that alone cause that's a men's day sermon right there there's nothing worse than what my grandmother would call a jelly back man if you just got up to go get some eggs it's because i'm preaching to you bro no don't go get some eggs yeah i'm talking to you every now and then you're gonna have to put on the big boy britches and be the man in the household it doesn't mean you're the boss it means you're the one that's accountable if god said it to you and you know it you got to be ready to stand on that faith and i love the way this thing finally unfolds because here's what gets crazy pastor lj you are right isaac looks up at his dad he said hold on i see the fire i see the wood i see the knife but where is the lamb where is the sheep now he gonna go there on me that he had to carry a burden well you know what the problem is right now i'm gonna show him too some og flavor there are children right now that are asking parents i see the new car i see the big house i see all the clothes but where's the lamb up in here they can't find jesus and the reality is i love what abraham articulates back to him because you got to be able to declare faith you can't tell the next generation what to do you can't just show them what to do you got to be able to articulate it because words are valuable as well he says son don't worry here's what's so amazing that if we get there and we are obedient to god god gonna provide a sacrifice now i want you to understand abraham is speaking strictly out of faith because god has told him sacrifice isaac but god has told him something that abraham now has to register through his faith land and what i want to suggest to you is when you can show the next generation that we're not living because of what we make we're not living because of how much intellect we have we're living because we are people of faith so the next time your children see something struggling in the household don't fall victim and get wishy-washy we need some parents nowadays that have so much faith that they can stand up to their children when they say mama how am i gonna get the back to school clothes we need some parents that'll stand up and say god gonna provide some back to school clothes when children are asking you how we gonna pay the rent and keep the lights on we need some parents that'll stand up and say god will provide didn't he provide last time didn't he provide last year didn't he provide last moment i want you to understand that i love the fact that abraham leaves a legacy of faith that you and i are still living on what would have happened if abraham didn't show isaac faith then isaac would have never shown jacob faith and if jacob y'all know where i'm going and if they didn't continue to perpetuate this faith that father abraham put in that generation you and i wouldn't be here because everybody knows that you and i are the seed of abraham are called according to galatians so i want to remind you leave a legacy of faith by not just displaying faith not by just developing faith but start declaring faith the third thing that you're gonna have to do if you're gonna understand your assignment is you're gonna have to display perfect peace you're going to have to have perfect peace i wanted did it stand out to any of you all that at the end of the day after abraham built the altar laid the wood out and then it says he just tatted isaac up and it dawned on me that isaac didn't say a word there was no tussle there was no fight there was no there was no words it just said simply abraham built the altar he laid the wood down and then it just says he simply tied isaac up and i just you know for me that just seemed like it's hard to believe i see i told y'all isaac had already peeped the whole car he told me that the seat was gonna be there when we got there i still don't see the lamb abraham built the altar he laid the wood up and just tied isaac up and then if if if i'm really honest isaac never really says a whole lot throughout the whole store he i think he does start to peek the whole card a little early and try to figure out what's going on but outside of that isaac really doesn't have much to say in this story i want to suggest that i think isaac really just trusted his father i think that isaac had peace he trusted his father no matter what we are talking about abraham we talking about father abraham who was made right with god because of his faith right abraham was made right because of how he believed in god so i know that he modeled that faith in trusting god in front of his son as his entire life i think isaac just had perfect peace right and then i think he had a perfect peace in understanding the assignment what is perfect peace according to john 14 and 27 perfect peace is accepting the gift of peace however it is not a physical visible or tangible gift it is a gift that is much better than the peace that the world tends to offer it's the one that soothes the mind and hearts in times of trouble and turmoil the peace that jesus left to follow is it it calms internal conflicts and things that affects the spirit sometimes you just got to have peace about things and let things be as god's going to happen to be i know sometimes it may not look like it's going it's going to work out your way it don't look good sometimes it even looks like it's gonna bring you to your demise in asia's case but sometimes i think that we just got to take our hands off of things we got to stop trying to control things stop malipinating things and let god beat and let things be as god sees fit we got to have perfect peace if we don't understand our assignment so if we're going to understand the assignment we got to do three things you got to have less talking and more action you have to carry a heavy load and you're gonna have to have a perfect piece listen before we get out of here you all i have to i have to give you all the opportunity first of all i hope that there's something that the bishop said i know that there's something that the bishop said i hope it's something that i said that that helped you all i hope it's something that you can use not not necessarily just next year or not necessarily buy and buy but i hope that you grab something that you can use and take and use in your life today and but before we get out of here i got to give you the opportunity to make what i think is the best decision that you could ever possibly make and so if that's you out there today and you want to accept jesus as your personal lord and savior all you have to do is text accept to the number 71441 if you're out there and you would like to rededicate your life to christ all you have to do is text restart to 71441 and if this is a place that you would like to call home and you want to become a partner of this amazing church all you have to do is text mind up to 71441 yesterday we had new partners class we had people that were in new partners class yesterday from california to new york we just want to shout you out and tell you thank you for letting us be a part of your spiritual journey i am having a ball preaching a blended sermon with my son there is stuff that's coming out of him that i didn't even know was inside of him i want you to understand don't just listen to us relatively speaking but have some relatively speaking time with your children over the next seven days we're getting ready to go we'll be back at 10 o'clock and i am so hyped about 10 o'clock worship because at 10 o'clock we're going to look at the greatest father and son relationship in the bible it is the relationship between jesus and joseph [Music] oh my god without that relationship we wouldn't even be here until then you know how we do it every week now unto him who is able to keep us from falling present us faultless before the throne of god to the only almighty god be glory and majesty dominion and power on behalf of pastor lj and myself we declare that you are blessed in the city blessed in the field blessed when you come and without a doubt blessed when you go in jesus name give your life to christ he'll give you paradise we knew life would be all right but who would have thought it be this better better better so much better give your life to christ he'll give you barely give your life to christ he'll give you paradise oh give your life to christ he'll give you paradise [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] hey [Music] so [Music] good morning again to you um i've had the privilege of hosting this morning now get to come back for the nine o'clock hour um i think we got a good topic for y'all today and so i hope you stay tuned of course we got to give it up for bishop and pastor lj um relatively speaking is still doing his thing right now um and we just i mean look how many churches on this morning are doing something like relatively speaking so this is definitely a hashtag oatm moment um so you know definitely shout out to our our spiritual covering and bishop for such a great idea and then also to pastor lj man for just stepping up you know usually he's here with us right right you know he's normally in here with us and uh we normally have him uh part as part of the nine o'clock moment man and so uh definitely we we're proud of him so we're proud we probably grow up yeah you know what i'm saying so we gotta give it up for you sir and uh we're proud of you man and we uh continuing to pray uh because they'll be back at ten o'clock but for the next forty something minutes we're gonna be together and i got a good topic for y'all today man i think i got a good one uh but let me let me ask you this um you ever heard the the expression action speak louder than words oh for sure actions speak louder than words man i mean you know um number one i mean do do you agree with the statement i'm starving with you alex do you agree i actually speak louder than words i think um it it's definitely a true statement because you really could see how someone really feels and acts well feels by the way they act you can say something all day but if you don't if you don't connect your actions to what you do it really means nothing especially in your marriage definitely very important i got you i got you um what about you what you think man man i'm torn uh definitely action speaks louder than words but it's situational though sometimes uh you know the words can be powerful also so yeah you know i'm torn situational actions words okay well um this month we're going to be dealing with unpopular opinions so my unpopular opinion for the day is that words are just as loud as actions if not louder um actually speaking louder than words i understand it i get it in context but i also think that um there's something to be said for words and um you know i i got my thoughts on it but i'm gonna start off with opening thought um so for those of you who are at home and uh for y'all too um check this out just let me know what you think in the chat as well our words have the unique power to quickly take root in the fertile soil of a child's spirit proverbs 16 24 brings this truth to light sharing that kind words are like honey sweet to the soul and healthy for the body a life can be changed forever with as little as a single phrase an uplifting word or an act of kindness okay so now that i say that part i ask y'all again and and and and stick to stick to your um do you really think that actions speak louder than words and again i say it's situational okay uh sometimes uh words can be louder than action based on the emotional stance of being a restorative facilitator in my field you know sometimes words can be detrimental and they can empower you so you know at the end of the day uh words man i'm a word guy what you speak into my life what you don't speak into my life uh matters uh when a growing up okay so growing up you know you know you know here today you'll never see 19 you would never grow up to be who you are uh based on your your your generational all that stuff was powerful because i began to believe that you know at the end of the day and it stuck to me as concrete but i'm you know thankful that that didn't work didn't really work out that way right right but it could have it you know it almost did it almost did so yes sir you made me think from a different perspective oh okay so i'm not changing okay okay so you know what you call it what you call it backtracking thinking about backtracking a little bit he's with i'm not recanting but thinking about what i said like your actions in your marriage they speak louder than your words the reason why i think your words speak loud as well is because if you're saying you're going to do something and you don't do it it still has something to do with what you're saying so i i do believe i i'm not recanting but you you made me think about it from alex okay it sounded like a request it made me even if you're watching at home right now you know the the the goal of everything from chop it up to no games play to uh unpopular opinions is just really to challenge you a little bit to just think through um and process a little bit so i'm gonna read something else now and then we'll go come back again a 21st century jewish rabbi shared this striking statement about the power of words words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity we can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement or destructively and use words of despair words have energy and power with the ability to help to heal to hinder to hurt to harm to humiliate and to humble words not actions yeah words right so we're not even at the point of what happens on the other hand right but here's here's where i got stuck at how i even ended up here okay in order for you to have an action typically whether it's um transparent to a person or it's literally presented to them there's a call to action well in order for there to be an action if you need a call to action that means you need right words so and intent is really felt and known by what's said right or if it's a non-verbal by how it looks yeah but either way you're something in front of the actual action so for me i i just really got stuck on it and said you know from when i when i got done i was like words are at least as loud as actions like i mean if if the volume you know action i think it's got to be 10 for the words too um just because i feel like words can have as much of an impact or effect on you as an action just look at the move look at look at watching it like i was watching the movie the other day and it had a whole it was had subtitles and so it was different just reading the uh the words in the movie versus when i when i heard the words right right it was it was more impactful so uh you know words it says uh when we all grow up that this statement i don't know if you know sticks and stones may break your bones words will never hurt you it's a huge loss so look you know um interestingly enough come on transition the earliest citation of this great phrase sticks and stones um is uh first a lot of it was uh recorded in uh periodical in 1862 march 1862 the christian recorder which was largely a black artist what and it was it came from and this was the quote they had remember the old adage sticks and stones will break my bones but the words will never harm me right that's in 1862 where they're talking about an old proverb or adage so this has been around for a long time wow right and if you think about context if i'm a slave mm-hmm and i'm saying sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me you're talking about your spirit i think correct so what what started off is probably something where it's like i won't be broken right by your word right by your words but but but but you know these beatings hurt right but the words i can deal with that i'm not gonna let you provoke me because if i let you provoke me it might get me killed right right context but when you tell a child that in 1990 or 2000 or whenever y'all were born out there you know um you know it's one of those things where it's like when we say sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me i just feel like that's a that's a real irresponsible thing and it's a lie i think i think it was really a protection mechanism because in inwardly you kind of you know that words can hurt but i think when you say that that that phrase it's almost i'm trying to protect myself from from the words that you're giving me saying that you know it really doesn't matter what you say so it's almost like i'm just letting it kind of die off and not you know become internalize that so i feel like it was more of a protection mechanism for some people i know growing up when i heard that i could honestly say that it was protecting me protecting myself from you know sixes those words your words won't hurt me but they really do but it's almost like a protection mechanism i don't know i was confused like when i used to hear that back in the day you know sticks and stones may break your own boys will never hurt you you know uh growing up we just call it bagging you know you bag on the cat so i was uh one reason i'm pretty good at it now but i was a victim of the bag and talking right so you know sticks and stones may hurt you may not hurt your bones but words will never hurt i think that needs to be retalked because at the end of the day it don't have to hurt but it will it don't have to stay hurt i mean i'll guess it's hurting how to stay there it's a process right to sticks and stones maybe you know i think he'd be re-taught because you know uh one guy joked me one time he said man i remember the dude i remember to do i fought to do matter of fact but anyway because he joked me so bad he said uh irv your nose so big you can clean your nose with a q-tip oh he said earlier your nose so big it was just these words right these i still remember it right you'll know so big you can smell the ingredients wow and for those of you out there that might be even a little older than us i think what was that was signifying yeah you know before bagging yeah you know so you know my big thing with it is this sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me i think you're setting yourself up you're setting your kids up right for something that's just not true words will hurt you of course i think if we did a better job of teaching how to process her right and process when words hurt and when people are trying to be hurtful with their words it'd make it better but trying to tell me to just suppress my feelings right because to say to you like when you said you internalize it but but but i don't let them know it exactly like i can see little alex just push it down from the most words never hurt me and then you walk up hurt like you know it's like you know you're like you can't tell nobody because it's almost like you become ashamed of being hurt by words right it's like why are you letting what they say about you hurt you because i'm human right and that's the i think humanity gets lost in it sometimes so it baffled me because you know that statement and then we get over to the church where the church realm and we said the sticks and stones may hurt your bones break your bones but words never hurt but then we go the power of life and deafness and your time so again i'm trying to say like i was confused growing up earlier because you know your parents say the power of life and death is in your tongue but those are words right so if if i got the power to kill yeah then i got the power to hurt yeah yes so i so i guess again the reteaching of this whole this whole uh theology when it comes to words it just needs to be redone especially i think top down though all would top up all across the board well i don't think it's theology i'll just jump in on that one i don't think i think the theology is straight we know that life and death lies in the power of the tongue and and we're going to jump into some other proverbs in a minute i just think that sometimes we're not consistent from where our theology and what we believe what that is versus how we respond to everyday life you know what i mean like i feel like sometimes we we compartmentalize our faith and it's like well over here we go we're going to go off of playground rules but over here we're going to go off of children's ministry but then over here we're going to kind of respond this way and it's like well if words are powerful and words can hurt and words do hurt why don't we deal with how to process hurt or how to respond when someone is trying to hurt you right you know versus trying to just tell somebody man you know just give them the care bear stare and and walk away like no it doesn't it doesn't work like that did you just say the kids hey man that's it good god so so another one i'm rubber you're glue you know what you say about me bounces off of me and sticks to you you know i wasn't digging that one no that was a fight i'm not even saying that i'm not even going through that it's crazy though because again ain't nothing bouncing off of you nothing right but here we are going off so what happens is what what we deal with outside of church yeah starts to creep in and overtake our theology but it's real subtle mm-hmm absolutely right because if you if you look at if you look at what you believe and what we say about words there's no way that i could be rubber and you be glued right you know what i mean like there's no way there's no way i could say that words will never hurt me yeah there's there's just no way i can do it uh you know when people call you something i know you are but what am i yeah it's like that's not necessarily that's not gonna never said that when needed that's not helping you never said that one either i don't believe y'all but today man you know um since we got you know elder alex alex uh uh-huh in the house you know uh you know and holiness is still right holiness so proverbs 11 and 9 uh-huh says evil words evil words destroy one's friends wise discernment rescues the godly hmm um so evil words destroys one's friends um how can words not be powerful how can words not be loud if the bible says that it can destroy friends straight up that means your words can sever a relationship right right and we all need someone and you might very well be cutting off the person that has the key to your destiny that's right right but your words not not your actions your words your words wise discernment rescues the godly um so you know just just just y'all's thoughts on that like that your words can destroy your friends oh yes um words to me to me i don't know if they can destroy your friends because to me somebody's my friend they're my friend so you might have to tell me some powerful words to get me on track okay you might have to really dig into me and say some stuff that may be perceived as evil to get me on point you know what i mean i just my perspective on it at the end of the day um i don't think it is just evil words like harsh words i got you harsh words uh as far as and you got to be wise in how you say words you know i'm saying i like that part because you really got to be careful especially to me all my friends know like you know proceed with caution no straight shooter i'm a straight shooter because i want i i'm a realist i'm emotional so depending on how my my uh reception is it's the way i take it so at the end of the day um it's strong i think it's the the intention behind your words as well um if you're if you're saying something sharp or too hurt and that's your intention i think that's the thing that could sever relationships if i'm your friend and i'm telling you and i'm being a straight shooter to you and tell you how i feel if there's love behind that word i think you you feel it different okay but if i'm if i'm intentionally being malicious in how i speak to you and i'm i'm coming off from a whole different vantage point i can see how that can can break up a friendship words to someone else about your friendship or you know just bring words can definitely sever relationships i definitely can see that also the noun let's talk about the non-verbal the non-word when you don't say something that can sever uh several you know servers of friendship also at the end of the day you know you're not giving me words that's how powerful words are you not i thought i mean that's you i mean yeah yeah i'm gonna be full again i gotta agree with you i mean so my point is how come you didn't tell me ah how come you couldn't speak on me how come you just didn't tell me i was wrong but maybe it's how you would receive it sometimes so so okay proverbs 11 and 12. okay read it is foolish to belittle a neighbor a person with good sense remains silent there are some times where it goes back to that casting your pearls before one type deal sometimes people just can't handle truth are you right about that you're right or they can't handle what you would have to say right and so ain't that harming this is my thing though if they take it because i don't think it's just about belittling your neighbor as much as it is how you you might receive it as me being literally and until you're at a place where i know you can take what i'm about to say sometimes it's better for me to just be quiet yeah and there i think there are times where you're being being um what's the word i'm looking for um prudent with your words you know deciding when to use them and when not to use them can can be just as effective i think sometimes silence not nonverbal but just silence can just mean you've got enough sense to understand even if you said something right now discernment i got you you you know what i mean you gotcha and then because they're gonna take it that i'm trying to belittle them even if i'm trying to make them better they're not ready for this yet so i can't do it yet so it i don't want to offend my neighbor right right yeah so at this point it's better for me to just remain silent because words are so powerful that while you can mean well yeah proverbs 11 17 your own soul is nourished when you are kind but you destroy yourself when you are cruel so this goes back to what you were kind of saying a minute ago to me right and only reason why i have this one on here is because it says your own soul is nourished when you are kind uh but you destroy yourself and you accrue if your words are intended to harm not only do you harm them you harm you yeah so again and i don't want us to miss the point if the truth would be actions speak louder than words then that would mean all of these things are untrue um you know and so i think sometimes we get caught up in cliches we do we get caught up in these proverbs and these these adages and all these things that have just been thrown around for years right right and we're actually speaking contrary um now not me again i'm reading straight from verses in proverbs so you know don't don't don't don't shoot me um a gentle answer turns away wrath but hard words stir up anger mm-hmm that's how you put it i mean it's all it's in delivery it's in delivery like you know herb you big you know i'm gonna that that can be offensive but if you like irv you a little bit you know you can tend to lose a little weight it's perception man gentle words like you get more with one thing with honey more stuff with honey you know at the end of the day so i really agree with that but do you have to always be gentle in your approach to everything like i think sometimes i i could be guilty of this trying to make sure that you're you're heard well enough without um you're letting your word speak without the emotion behind it but isn't there a time where you need to add emotion to it absolutely i always say this like sometimes i say black people listen better when you cuss at them i don't know what it is no one's like you know what like you you you will not get it for alex i'm not saying that i mean i do it but sometimes it's like you don't get it unless i put a word on the end of it you know in order to get it through your mind i've never lived it i've lived it i'm not saying that i am but i lived it and i've seen the effect when people hear harsh work i mean the world stops sometimes and here's the thing it's not like they haven't heard the word before right you know and they know how to respond to it and they know how to respond to it but it causes a different action from that word so i was just saying like you know being have to be soft in your words but sometimes you have to add a little bit more just knowing the context being contextual with it like knowing being gentle a gentle answer is to me the difference in you know um you know i'm having a party this saturday you're not invited mm-hmm or yeah hey i got some other things going on oh so all right yeah yeah yeah yeah no so you know you're not i'm not gonna be able to do that this weekend right because i could let the person know that they're not invited to my party right or i could just let them know i got some other stuff going on the general answer can be you throwing the flag on that go ahead so we lying now no no no no you just said i ain't gonna better do that no i'm not gonna be able to do it cause i'm doing something else so you don't have the party i am having the party so what are you doing something else the party is something else oh right i'm telling you i can't do what i'm doing with you but what i am what i'm not gonna do if you're not invited to the party is throw it out there there's no need right it's like i can't i think you can find a way it's like you know um it was it paul i would not have you to be ignorant mm-hmm versus just saying oh stupid right you know y'all need to do this you know it's like maybe just um forming your words differently to get cause we all know like you just said there's a certain response you get based upon the words absolutely absolutely right you know what you're saying when you say it i mean i'm you know military okay i'm military you know the difference in when somebody everybody knows how to say what what they gonna say to you in a way to get whatever reaction they want to get out of if i want it to make you cry if i wanted to make you mad if i wanted to try i know what to say trigger words you already know right right you know what man i tell you what your mama's not here to clean so i guess that's why you can't keep your room clean now you know what you're doing when you did it you know when you go and do a room inspection and you said that everybody knows what time it is you want all the smoke all right now now go ahead and raise up if we're going to give you this article 15 bounce your hard parts out of here that you're already pushing towards but see when if you go back to it a general answer turns away wrath right but hard word stirrup anger here's where i go with the general word piece right if you're trying to be provocative you got to be careful with that yeah because you just might get what you're signing up for uh-oh say it again sir that resonates with my spirit i'm just saying like you gotta be conscious of your god that's might get because you might get what you might look for and and i think that's the part of this that you have to look at is just how powerful words are because i'm telling you there are people getting gunned down on the street every day for their words right yeah for their words yeah even their social media words you ain't putting the fingers yeah twitter finger oh you tough pull up right pull up right or you know it's it's real simple people say things and then you know it's like then we don't look at the the the full result of what's being said when someone says i'm done talking it's on site mm-hmm it's on site it's on site now and you're thinking because when you say nothing they'll see each other then y'all see each other in the park and all of a sudden somebody on wavy10 it's on site you know talking words have now pushed it to a level and it's like you know um alex you said you worked at a call center before you know how it's like when you're trying to de-escalate oh yeah right you can use your words to like escalate the situation yeah or de-escalate a situation right and i think a gentle answer definitely turned away wrath is basically your your you know attempt to try to say well let me keep it here correct i definitely don't want this call to get elevated exactly you know what i mean and so i think we we have to be honest enough though to believe that words are that powerful absolutely and quit saying actions speak louder than words because then what it does is it marginalizes the effect that words have on people what we do is we inadvertently make words less important than they really are right true by saying that it's like actually speak louder than words i know what you're saying don't don't just talk about it be about it right i get that right but i think the phraseology also goes into our dna another way and while that's happening over there in the background in places that we don't really talk about we're also diminishing the value of words absolutely absolutely that's true you know what i mean that's true and i mean and and here's what's so amazing about words it was words that created there you go everything right everything let there be light let there be right you know and i mean and it's like so the word the word the spoken word is that powerful yeah and if we've got his spirit inside of us and we've got this this this kingdom authority vested in us then what comes out of my mouth can literally destroy yeah right and so to just say the actions speak louder than the words now sometimes your words absolutely can do way more damage than your actions uh for the for the good also yes sir i mean affirmations yeah information you know speaking over your life you're not what they say you are you you're not a bad child you're just beautiful not the divorcee you're not all those positive words mean affirmations if if if if words weren't powerful why are we doing affirmations that's right yep why why why are we saying all this so i believe that the more negative words come to you come to you you got to push the more positive you know that's that's it's the the fight on word the battle of the words you know because i again words are so powerful why can't i just say sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me because that's a lie not true okay because so you're saying that that i need to really be doing affirmations and i need to be speaking right so again okay okay the key word was never hurt you sticks and stones will break them over words will never no some words don't hurt you now that there's some truth some words like it depends on her again it depends on the person it's coming from right you know shout out to patrick again incredible others you know it it it it depends on what the words come because some words won't hurt you that's right who is you right like you're like who would you be talking to me right consider the source consider the story but when it comes from right a credible source right it becomes and it's negative no i think that's become diminishing right i mean you know how many men and women so we'll start i'm gonna start with women you you end up with a lot of women that end up with a lot of issues be it daddy issues now you're talking about it and how you're talking you see the effects of those words as women get older sometimes right right and then guys you know you got the predatory man out there that's just he's just waiting on that once he realized that you see no idea no one told him oh you damaged oh no one told you you were pretty yeah i told you you were valuable and it's like you just you're just looking for him you're looking for him see you you see one you be like one right there you know and that's how it happens i know i speak affirmation on my daughter yes or my kids constantly yes you know i give them straight affirmation yeah you're a queen and i think would you say the credible source man that that's definitely important you're especially as a father you shape your children's future you you're able to point them in the direction based upon what you say to them and that credible source can either kill or it can either grow absolutely that's good i even do it at my job and we're working the school system i'm real big on affirmation hey you are not that great you can get better you are not that last referral you are not so again that's not who you are and so so coming from the behavior specialist like credible others to the kids they go like oh man mr jones ain't that bad yeah right so i can change it around right right again how you uh attach your words to people yeah you have to pay for that that i i agree people have to pay for that i agree you gotta pay for that proverbs uh 18 and four says a person's words can be life-giving water words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook just like absolutely i think we have to realize that yes actions matter they do mm-hmm i'm not taking away from you i was wrong okay okay matter okay i'm not you're just trying to get a coupon i'm giving you my own popular opinion sir i just think i just think it's no one's gonna necessarily agree with me that actions don't speak louder than words right but i definitely think they're the same volume probably gonna be people that don't agree with that either i understand but at the end of the day if our words can be like you know life-giving water a bubbling brook this is like this this means that my my words can be peace in somebody's life definitely that's the reason why i'm telling you that's the reason why i walk in the lane i walk in er why are you always smiling and i do smile y'all y'all put me to bad light all the time like i'm this big gangster but i smile a lot because i know the effect that it had and taught them and i and when i walked past hey what's going on because you don't know that word may bring somebody off the cliff yeah that word may change somebody whole get down as pertain to living another minute or another second yeah so again your words are powerful i mean you you've seen it you seen it yeah i don't know if i'll get you over there you see watch women do this a lot girl you rocking that dress may not be rocking the dress though but you gonna get off you gonna get out there again that's different though but again they got powerful enough she know that dress don't fit oh but then that's fine that's just that's like what i'm saying the words that positive word pushed her to do something that she didn't feel like she can do ladies i'm not a part and other women will say you need a female on there because you need to make sure you've got this perspective and lens and right now i just had an epiphany and so all i'm gonna say is uh the views of the guest panelists today may not reflect that of the host so continue on but that's even with the men in the in the tight jeans he was like people will talk you into your work you know you're wearing them ankle babies in the past people's words will push you to do things that you shouldn't really shouldn't do i agree or it's just or that you should or you should it's just the power of words that's so substantial y'all done it and we marginalize it you know and i think uh and uh i'm gonna read this last what i think i'm gonna move on from the uh scriptures but why speech why speech is proverbs 20 and 15 why speech is rarer and more valuable than gold and rubies yeah static said again why speech is rarer and more valuable than gold and rubies now this this scripture to me says something because it just lets you know how ignorant we we are when it comes to how we use our words that it would be valued more than gold and rubies and considered rare yeah right um so i'm sure i know i have to do better with this you know what i'm saying like i mean this is this is definitely an area where i could look and say you know what the same way i steward my finances and i steward my relationship with god i have to steward my words yeah right god has given me the gift of speech but maybe i'm not being a good steward of that gift because maybe i'm not valuing my words enough to understand the power that they truly have yeah right because there are days if you're going around saying sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me that at some point when you become an adult you start thinking words don't hurt period then you get people with the hashtag unbothered you you bothered that's why you put the hashtag you would not have said anything if you wasn't because energy energy is going to cause energy if you put energy out there and then i come back and my subliminal is hashtag unbothered then it bothered me right um it's a lie and instead of us addressing what's actually happening in us and working through that we suppress it we lie about it we lie to each other absolutely we're not honest about what hurts us and what does absolutely so we really never learn how to treat one another how to respond to each other or how to communicate with one another because it's this it's the superficial layer of communication that we do yeah i'm just gonna stay here this is safe this is um this is acceptable this is cordial but it may not be honest that's what that's why some some relationships go wrong whether it be male whether it be marriage or you know homeboys uh we don't really we suppress when we're bothered and then we wait until eight years nine years later and say hey man and you're like why we ain't rocking misha you listening to him my wife my wife would bring up something for like two years ago right so again and then and then we get mad or the person get mad because you you assumed that i knew that it bothered you so your words will eat to me when you address those you let those words go and you when you let me know that i'm bothered the relationship can be stronger definitely based on the fact that i am bothered right this is peeing me off i'm at the highest level but i'm i'm internalizing i'm really bleeding inside versus using your words to rescue them and so you don't you don't know you know and then the person feel like you know the person feel like there's something wrong so they're going to try everything they can to fix it but they don't know so it's like giving some person chest compressions and they're bleeding inside i'm trying to fix it i'm trying to fix it but all you have to do let the person know i'm bleeding these words hurt me and so we cause more trouble yeah when we don't use the words and say i'm bothered right i think that's good man i'm i'm learning this is year seven of marriage i'm on nine and um i'm learning like more and more like communication oh man tactics and techniques and it's like there are a lot of communication exercises that you know i'm learning that just make your marriage and i'm sorry i keep going to marriage but that's right make your marriage that make your marriage so much better because you know growing up you like you said you suppress emotions to pressure feelings to pressure words but then they come out in different other avenues absolutely and then your spouse don't know why you're acting out over here so decided but it's all about words and i was just thinking about um when i really realized that words were really powerful it was really doing like the black lives matter this movement that for my lifetime kind of happened in 2020 and just understanding how words can mobilize movement to say something and to gather 3 000 people that i saw with my own eyes to march for something based upon a speech and words and you know that that were given that really made me realize how important and how powerful your words are and so man i that's what i realized i know we got to go i thought about something you know you say the words are more valuable than gold i'm going to spend it this way has god ever gave you something to say a catch phrase or something that he's given you and you were too afraid to put it out and then it then comes along somebody else takes that same phrase and makes millions yeah oh yeah yeah oh yeah and makes millions based off just the work a hashtag uh just different stuff right just different stuff that's that's valuable but you don't you you don't take here it is you don't take value in your own words but somebody else will and make the bag yeah that's good off your words it was supposed to be your word but you didn't use it right god said hey boy give somebody else because action's in actions and again unpopular opinion but um words i think can be just as loud as action absolutely so i'll leave y'all with this verse and then we'll get ready to jump out of here proverbs 25 18 says telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an axe wounding them with a sword or shooting them with the sharp arrow so sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me proverbs 25 18 says they can be just as bad as getting hit with an axe wounding them with the sword or shooting them with the sharp arrow i do believe that we have to be honest about the power of words absolutely so that we can actually process come up with real strategy and teaching for how to manage right words whether it's words that i'm receiving or words that i'm delivering yeah um and it starts when you're a child instead of us just telling our kids you just gotta let that bounce off you don't don't worry about them right now we got to be it goes back to what you said man and i'm i'm um things that i think words can affect i think words can affect our witness i think it can affect our will it can affect our worth and it can affect our way ahead now of course you know um you know this is where i would do my introduction and then i'll give you all the title to my sermon but we're not going to go at that point but but but but for real like i mean our witness our will our worth and our way ahead are all affected by words and and we have to do something that you said in the very beginning man or earlier it's the importance of affirming yeah affirming our children affirming our marriages affirming our homes um you know and so you know in these final minutes one of the things i'm going to work on this week um and i'll ask you if you if you're watching and challenge for y'all as well challenge yourself to just affirm the things around you this week uh whether that's your kids and your wife and your spouse absolutely yeah you know um on your job affirm just just make it a point this week to be intentional about affirming yeah and speaking positive and and and building up your brothers and sisters in christ if you know somebody on your job is saved and you see them and they look a little down girl you you better straighten up your crown you know you're a daughter of the king you know don't be around here looking like that you know say something um you know because your words yeah i get it yeah you could go buy lunch take it to them and cheer them up but i i can almost say at this point in a lot of in a lot of ways the words that you speak to a person will outlast that meal right and so don't devalue you know what words mean and what words can do in the life of a person a lot of people are where they are today because somebody said they never amount to anything and don't believe the lie exactly look don't believe the lie y'all the lie is that you're worthless the lie is that you're you're not going to be anything the lie is that you cannot bounce back the lie is there there's no redemption there's no grace the lie is that words don't hurt don't believe the lie y'all that's right because words definitely do hurt uh they hurt so much that even when people got named in the bible they would act like their name that's right you know i mean like jacob was trickster before he was trickster right but then he became a trickster right yeah you know words words matter yeah and words are powerful and and words can't hurt absolutely so um with that being said it is 10 00 a.m y'all so we are about to go back into relatively speaking the sermon series um that's the conclusion of it as a matter of fact why because next week we are honoring the first family and so you know we're excited we're ready uh we got a lot of things in store so check your emails this week make sure you on our social media make sure you're like liking sharing and even just say that y'all remember lj was the guy that came in church and literally said two words and now he is literally preaching an entire sermon y'all sit and look in amazement and so do i when i say the lord answers the prayers of the righteous listen he answers the prayers of the righteous so i am so excited to introduce them as they talk about relatively speaking and the father-son relationships in the bible it has been amazing to listen to them last sunday and then today at 8 am and then i can only imagine what god is going to do at 10 so i hope your heart is just as ready as mine is to receive them so we're going to go ahead and pray and get our hearts ready for service so go with me to the lord dear heavenly father god we taking that robbery that we woke up this morning god we thank you for the opportunity just to be in the land of the living and to have breath in our bodies and to be able to speak and give your name praise today so god we simply say thank you this morning for that opportunity we love you today guy and we thank you for the reminder that you are still in control and so despite what our situation is right now god despite what it looks like god thank you for reminding us that you're still in the midst we love you on today and we sit with great anticipation for the things that you're gonna say so we prepare our hearts ready to receive all that you're gonna do in us and through us we say holy spirit have your way today and do what only you can do in the name of jesus i pray amen and [Music] my child listen when your father corrects you don't neglect your mother's instruction luke 2 41-52 every year jesus parents went to jerusalem for the passover festival when jesus was 12 years old they attended the festival as usual after the celebration was over they started home to nazareth but jesus stayed behind in jerusalem his parents didn't miss him at first because they assumed he was among the other travelers but when he didn't show up that evening they started looking for him among their relatives and friends when they couldn't find him they went back to jerusalem to search for him there three days later they finally discovered him in the temple sitting among the religious leaders listening to them and asking questions all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers his parents didn't know what to think son his mother said to him why have you done this to us your father and i have been frantic searching for you everywhere but why did you need to search he asked didn't you know that i must be in my father's house but they didn't understand what he meant then he returned to nazareth with them and was obedient to them and his mother stored all these things in her heart jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with god and all people [Music] good morning good morning good morning good morning welcome once again to the mount i'm lj i'm excited to be here once again bishop thank you for the opportunity bishop elle to thank you all for the opportunity to sit and share and share this platform with you bishop it's certainly definitely an honor to do this so thank you thank you thank you um today the topic um here from the son's perspective here at the ten o'clock service is going to be wd jd wdjd what did jesus do what did jesus do um i know i know a lot of you all you all remember the phrase wwjd what would jesus do what would jesus do and i really think i i used to i liked that phrase i thought that phrase was very helpful and what i thought it did for me was it helped me to whenever i got into situations whenever i got in or something that i needed to handle uh wwjd what would jesus do it helped me to kind of figure out how i would respond or how i would react what would jesus do where he showed sympathy where he shows empathy where he show compassion what do you show forgiveness and uh the difference is here and what did jesus do i think is going to help us today to be a little more proactive um than reactive so there's some things in this story that i believe young jesus here in this story did and we're going to get into a little bit of those here in just a second wow you know what's been amazing is for the last two sundays we've taken literally a father and a son text and we've tried to minister it to you through the lens of the father coming from me through the lens of the sun coming from pastor lj and we've looked at everything from the prodigal son to the culmination of father-son relationships today which to me is jesus and joseph i think we've tried to find ourselves in the text years ago i was taught that if you can't see yourself in the text you'll never help other people to see themselves and so i don't think there's a text that i see us in any more than the stories between joseph and jesus why because literally joseph was his father in the spirit and other day i was reading something and it said when god got ready to decide out of all the men on the earth who he was going to charge with raising his son he chose joseph what a privilege i want to suggest that when god got ready to choose who he would choose to raise the pastor of tmp by the grace of god he chose me what a privilege what a burden what a privilege can you imagine god looking at joseph and saying that's the man that i want to use to raise the savior of the world what's so interesting is when you look at joseph and jesus it's real easy for us to speculate on how the house was and how the relationship was but to me the greatest part of that in the whole preaching series relatively speaking i want to talk to you today my part of the blended sermon about embracing individuality that's what the last two sundays have been about anybody that knows me knows i got to stand up i got to be walking anybody that knows him knows he's going to be a little bit more laid back he's not going to raise his voice but yet from 8 o'clock service a couple of y'all text me and tweeted me and said pastor lj was a cough away from hoopin anybody that knows him knows you're not gonna force him to do anything from the day that i was introduced to this man of god's life it was clear he was going to be an individual thinker he was going to think through it and make the decision and do it his way i want to suggest that's the epitome of the relationship between jesus and joseph that this story that we're going to preach from today helps us to understand that as parents we've got to learn how to embrace individuality stop warning your child to be you [Music] one of the first things that i think jesus did here in this story jesus young jesus here because jesus in this story is 12 years old if you read the story it tells you that jesus was 12 years old and one of the things that i think jesus did here he did subtle scouting young jesus here in this story did subtle scouting i loved it i love the way the story starts because the story starts i love the family joseph and the family i love the way it starts because they they like our family they a lot of they they went to the fest every year y'all know the story tells us that every year joseph and the family would go down to norfolk to the wine fest i mean joseph and the family will go down to jerusalem every year joseph and the family would go down to jerusalem every year to the to the passover fest right and they would and they would go down and have a good time and this particular time after the passover fest was over they went on and head back and jesus stayed behind in the temple with the religious teachers um listening and talking and having a conversation with them and to me that just raised a few questions y'all know i always i always read and i get questions and to me it made me wonder what was it at the passover fest that made this young 12 year old wanna you know pretty much be sneaky and stay behind while his family went on home i wonder what it was about what what did he see at the passover that made him want to stay i wonder what the religious teachers were talking about that made once again a 12 year old boy wants to stay and listen and then it says not only was he just staying and listening but he he stayed and listened and asked questions i wonder what he was asking what kind of questions because y'all know back in the day when i was young i know you really couldn't sit amongst the bishops and the pastors and the associate ministers and stuff and really just sit and engage with them in conversation it made me wonder i wonder what were they talking about and what was jesus even asking i want to suggest that young jesus here 12 years old i want to suggest that he was doing subtle scouting i want to suggest that he was doing subtle subtle scouting because here's the thing where did calvary take place where was where was calvary calvary was on galgotha right and where was god gotha god gotha was on the outskirts of jerusalem calvary was there on the outskirts of jerusalem well who were the people back you know you know because we fast forward who were the people that always would try to catch jesus up and trick him and catch him doing things so that they could condemn him as well it was the religious teachers and the pharisees over there in jerusalem i want to suggest that jesus was out there doing uh subtle scouting this is why this is why when they came to him y'all remember when they came to him and they said jesus look we didn't court this lady we need to caught this lady in the act of adultery like the law said we supposed to condemn her what do you say and i think because jesus was able to look at his scouting report jesus at 12 years old had already sat with the religious teachers he know how they thought he knew their ways he knew their processes he knew they had laws he knew the laws of their land he knew they was trying to catch him up he said you know what you're all right the law do say we post a good deal in this later but i tell y'all whichever one of y'all ain't never did nothing y'all go ahead and throw the first stone jesus had been doing subtle scouting i believe because he sat there and understood their ways he knew what was going on he knew what i was going to do so i want to say i want to submit to you those of you who out there and you writing your goals down do some subtle scouting find somebody who's already accomplished the things that you're trying to do and see if you can get some inside information on that thing if you trying to go out there and you trying to get a job you say you want to get a job somewhere go down there and sit with the front desk lady and see if you can get some inside information on the job see if you can deceive what's going on in the job see if you can get some intel on the boss learn the buzz you know the boss like oreos you know the boss like fruit snacks you know the girls like golf you know he likes you know what i'm saying buying new car so then when you go in there you know for that interview you're not going in there trying to get the job by having stance you got the scouting report where you can look back so when you come in there with that bag of oreos at your interview in boston and the boss is surprised i said man i know where i look i didn't did some subtle scouting i already i'm not coming in here trying to make this thing happen but i haven't stands i've done subtle scouting i believe jesus taught us that he's 12 years old in this store oh that's getting ready to happen what 20 20 some years later he's already doing subtle scouting i think that we can learn from young jesus here in this story if we just do subtle scouting and we can go back and look in our scouting reporter it's basically about preparation he prepared himself jesus young jesus here in the story did subtle scouting you know what's so crazy then if from jesus's perspective he's doing subtle scouting then from the parents perspective you know what we've got to do we've got to model consistency just like pastor lj said every year they would go i want to suggest that here's what's so amazing if you look at verse 41 it says every year jesus's parents went to jerusalem every year jesus's parents went to jerusalem every year y'all need to put that in the chat just put every year i wonder what it is that you have modeled in front of your children that they're going to remember and here's what's so amazing if you go further it says in verse 42 and when jesus was 12 years old they attended the festival as usual whatever you model in front of your child the most is what your child is going to end up doing when they're grown if you model cussing in front of your children they're going to be cussers if you model serving in front of your children they're going to be servants i want to suggest to everybody around the world today that what's so phenomenal to me is that if you're going to learn how to embrace the individuality of your children if you're going to learn how to let them be whoever god has ordained them to be the best thing we can do is model consistency in front of them if you were a once a year church worshiper before covet they're gonna be a once a year church worshiper but if you model love in front of them i promise you they will learn how to love if you model compassion in front of them i promise you they will learn how to be compassionate in fact i love what psalms 1 3 says we miss it but it's talking about the fact that there'll be like a tree planted along the riverbank watch this bearing fruit in each season there it is that's the point you got to learn how as the parent to bear fruit in each season you can't just bare fruit in the seasons where everything is going the way you want it to go you got to learn how to be a christian 24 7. you know what i'm the most proud of is i never ever will forget hearing my son pastor lj when he was a little boy and i was listening through the wonder yeah i was eavesdropping and i watched him and another one of his friends talking on the outside of the house and they were talking about their parents using profanity and i'm proud of the fact that that day my son said to the other young man man he never heard my dad curse the reality is whatever you do consistently in front of your children can have can have implications on who they become in the future thanks be to god that every year joseph took jesus to jerusalem he already peed my whole card thanks be to god that every year jesus had to go to jerusalem because joseph took him to jerusalem so when it was time to go to okay i don't want to get ahead of myself the reality is he took him to jerusalem every year he didn't make excuses he didn't let situations change it wasn't that we don't have money this year it doesn't mean that we didn't have a good lifestyle this year whatever goes wrong learn how to be models of consistency you can't go to work when you feel like going to work and then expect your children to have a work ethic you can't be one way on sunday and another way monday tuesday and wednesday i think they call that hypocrisy so i'm excited that if we're going to embrace the individuality of the next generation number one we've got to model consistency [Music] the second thing that i think young jesus did here in this story he was surprisingly sharp young jesus in the story was surprisingly was surprisingly shocked the story says that everybody that was in the temple with him that he was listening and talking to it says that they were all amazed at his understanding and his answers they were he was he was surprisingly sharp everybody in there y'all amazed at this young 12 year old everybody that was in there everybody was in there was just amazed at his understanding of and answers and to me that was puzzling it was puzzling to me that that people were amazed at how special and how intelligent um he was when we all know that he was born miraculously [Music] you were amazed at this miraculously born child you amazed at his at the way that he can process you amazed at the way that he can sit and under and listen with the religious teachers we amazed the fact that he was born of a virgin tells you that he was special and they were amazed i think i think i think in it furthermore he kind of indicted him he ain't really indicted but he told he told his mom he said look if y'all would have known who my daddy was y'all would have not you know why was y'all searching to find me y'all should have known that i was in my father's house and then it goes on to say that they didn't really know what he meant but i think here's what i think he made i really think he really was asking was do y'all know who my daddy is do you really knew if you knew who my daddy was you would have known where to come find me and then the thing is like y'all sitting here y'all so amazed y'all amazing my understanding of my answers do you know who my daddy is like y'all amazed at the fact that i know how to deal with and come out of depression do you know who my daddy is y'all y'all wondering like how i know how to handle tough situations do you know who my daddy is you amazed at the fact that i understand and i'm destined for greatness do you know who my daddy is you you amazed at the fact that i know that he got plans for me plans for hope in the future plans to prosper me do you know who my daddy is you amazed that we could sit here and just have a discussion with the religious teachers do you know who my daddy is like i don't know who need to sell tell somebody out there do you know who my daddy is do you know who my dad and i just think that jesus was telling that they were they were amazed they were amazed at his responses they were amazed at his wisdom they were amazed at his knowledge they were amazed at the things that he were able to do jesus in the story was surprisingly sharp [Music] what's amazing to me is to be sitting on the stage with somebody that is surprisingly sharp [Music] no one is more in awe at this moment than i am i'm gonna turn the text and do a twist parents don't click off of the zoom don't get off of youtube don't get out for the internet feed because you know what's amazing to me is i've never understood until this moment why mary is so angry [Music] have y'all ever stopped to notice okay it's been three days that they've been looking for jesus you know i could make a turn right there but i'm going to leave that alone and when they finally find jesus at 12 years old instead of her embracing him and being so glad that she's found him she said why you do this to me and your dad [Music] that scripture doesn't even fit the context your child been missing for three days you finally find him and instead of you hugging him saying we glad we found him she said why would you do this to me and your father what did he do put that in the chat for brother what did jesus do that made mary so upset that when she finds him she chastises him rather than being glad like the prodigal son's father to sin i want to suggest to you here it is point number two they had measured control okay see if i can help you real quickly with that too many parents are trying to live their childhood through their children's lives and rather than letting our children walk out their own journey we want to tell our children what their journey is yeah i said it ain't scared of y'all because the reality is this as parents i'm only concerned about his destination i'm not concerned about the steps that it takes to get him there if he doesn't walk out his journey the way i think he should walk his journey out i'm okay i just want him to arrive where god has called him to be here's what's so amazing i went to norfolk state i left norfolk state went to virginia union i left virginia union came back to virginia union i got called to mount lebanon at 28 and if i'm not careful i want my journey to be his journey well when he finished indian river he did not want to go to college and then had the audacity to come to me and his mother and say he was going to seminary i'm not proud of it but let me tell you what i told him i said you'll never get in seminary to my surprise my son said i've already talked to the dean of the university he's already enrolled me and he's told me he can get me in the door but it's up to me to stay in the door i want you to understand i wanted his journey to be like my journey rather than just being glad that he's got a journey yeah i'm so glad that when i look at him he might not have walked away i wanted him to walk he might not have gone everywhere i wanted him to go before i let it go i got to go back to mary and joseph look where they look for him at they look for him with family and friends why because they had a preconceived journey for jesus and jesus decides that i will do the will of god but i might not do it the way you did it so i'm here to declare in front of the world i don't want him to be ken brown i want him to be james brown i don't want him to walk my journey i want him to walk his journey and if we don't get it right we'll end up in the same place because you ain't got to ride with me to get to norfolk you can go down the interstate or go through the tunnel i just want to see him get to norfolk run walk your journey i'll walk my journey i want to have measure control but i don't want to control his journey i want to sit back and see what god is doing in his life [Music] thing the third thing that i believe young jesus did in this in this story i think he showed submission i think young jesus here in the story showed submission why why in the story and i'm like bishop i really i really had a hard time trying to figure out myself what young jesus did because in the story um if you read now towards the end of the story it says that they once they found him they went back to nazareth and it told us that jesus was obedient to them and so it made me wonder i was thinking to myself as well like what was the point of letting us know that once they got back to nazareth that jesus was obedient i just i just didn't see in the story like bishop like what did he do what what you know i don't see where where they needed to let us know that he was obedient it's almost as if the writer left it up to the reader to interpret what they mean by telling us that jesus was obedient and so what i wanted to suggest is that the what the writer is really trying to get us to to remember is that obedience is still key obedience is obedience is still key right the bible does tell us that obedience is better than sacrifice now that don't mean that you're not gonna have to sacrifice i just believe that he prefers you to be obedient rather just being willing to sacrifice all the time because if you obedient you'll sacrifice when he asks you to sacrifice if you're obedient you'll you'll show mercy when he asks you to show murder if you're obedient you'll you'll help the lady in walmart when he asks you to help i believe that god just wants to remind us that we gonna always have to be obedient even when we felt like we didn't do nothing wrong sometimes you just have to be obedient and obedience is just it's just compliance with order or request or law or submission another or submission to another person's authority children were taught to show their parents obedience i just think that you have to be obedient because at the end of the day right jesus had to be obedient even when he was young ain't talking about the young jesus jesus had to be obedient y'all know he had a tough assignment that he didn't want to follow through sometimes you just got to show obedience where you know again it might not look good all the time young jesus hearing the story showed submission i don't know why the reader chose to put out there that he was obedient in this story but i think it's just to remind us today that obedience is still key sometimes we lose fact about it being obedient we think that we serve good okay that's good we give we ask that's cool but god asking us to be obedient obedience is better than sacrifice it don't mean again that you're not gonna have a second but he wants you to be just make sure you're gonna be able to do again this is following order can you follow order can you follow what he asked whenever he asks you to do whatever it is that he asks you to do can you do that i think that young jesus here showed us that he showed submission and reminded us that you're gonna always continue to have to be obedient [Music] if [Music] if we're gonna learn how to embrace the individuality of the next generation we're gonna have to always model consistency we'll have to always have measured control [Music] finally [Music] i think we got to magnify the context see if i can help us to understand we've kind of danced around this the whole message pastor lj and myself when jesus is one they go to jerusalem when he's two when he's three when he's four when he's five six seven eight nine ten eleven and now at twelve they go to jerusalem i wanna suggest to you that what happens year 12 [Music] is because they've helped jesus to understand that the world is bigger than nazareth [Music] he gets to jerusalem that 12th year and something tugs on his heart and he says i'm assigned to this city you just missed a turn with me show your children more than where they're from [Music] introduce them to more than what you have i'm reminded of how many times he thought he was just armor bearing me and we standing in the pastoral study of bishop david copeland in san antonio texas we're getting ready to go out for prayer and all the pastors and elders are standing there and when we get ready to go out to pray he says lj you pray you know what i now understand that was taking him to jerusalem before it was his time what if i had never introduced him to places that were bigger than his comfort zone what if i had never introduced him to places that could connect to his heart he wouldn't be sitting there stop telling children where they're supposed to go and take them there stop letting your child think that where they are is the sum total of the world i wonder how many children would be so much more i wonder how many of us would be so much more if our parents had introduced us to something bigger than just where we came from the reality is i need to dream i need to be inspired i need to be motivated your children need to be motivated i'm making it real personal i wonder where the mountain would be if i had not have gone years ago and seen chris shaw christian center when they had a television studio and now we've got a television studio i wonder what would be happening right now in the next in the midst of a pandemic if i had not been exposed to much more thank you to my mother bless her heart and her grave that although i was from charleston avenue she made sure i saw w.e water's house in portsmouth and dr holly's house in portsmouth because she needed me to see a black man that had a swimming pool in his backyard it was nice to go to the neighborhood facility but thank you mama for magnifying my contacts and letting me know i could have a pool in my backyard and now at 60 i got a pool in my backyard not because i deserve it but because mama magnified my context i want to thank joseph thank you for all the years you carried jesus to jerusalem because when he turned 33 and it was ready for him to go jerusalem i'm glad that he had been there so jerusalem didn't intimidate him jerusalem didn't make him feel uncomfortable he had already been there pastor just like you said he knew all the doctors he knew all the lawyers he knew the pharisees he knew what to expect parents i leave you with this take your child somewhere show them something that's bigger than just chesapeake virginia show them something that's bigger than just the 757 take them to a professional football game take them somewhere that blows their mind so that you can awaken the dream in them and then let them walk that destiny out understanding that they're supposed to be bigger than you every generation should be bigger than the generation before but we're so busy holding on to the next generation not wanting them to go further i want him to go further i want him to preach better i want him to love god at another level i want him to be a better pastor than me he's already a better father and a better husband but i'd like to think at least i exposed him to something that was bigger than just chesapeake indian river ferned with farms it's not where you're coming from it's what you see that enables you to dream joseph magnified the context he said you might be from nazareth but you're called to jerusalem i challenge every parent today magnify the context what we hope over the last two sundays that relatively speaking has blessed you as much as it has blessed me i'm here to declare that i really believe today was a coming-out party for my son the last couple of weeks now i understand [Music] when jesus is getting baptized [Music] and they ask for comment from heaven and all god could say is this is my beloved son in whom i'm well pleased thank you god for the privilege of being chosen to raise this man of god i want you to understand that today is a day of decision making for you as well the good news about god is he gives us always a do-over so right now regardless of where you are in life and regardless of where you are physically in life from switzerland to south carolina from germany to georgia thank you for giving us the opportunity to give you the ability to make spiritual decisions number one if you desire to become a believer today doesn't mean you're going to be perfect it means you want to establish this relationship with christ all you've got to do is so simple is text the word accept to 71441 [Music] if perhaps you used to be closer to god than you are right now and you want to get that right today all you got to do is text the word restart to 71441 [Music] and if you believe that the mount portsmouth the mount chesapeake or the mount virtual is where you're called to be connected all you've got to do is text the word mount up to 71441 you'll be prompted given some instructions please don't rob us of our god-given assignment and the privilege that god has given us to be able to help you to walk through life we pray by faith that you've been blessed over the last two sundays because we've been relatively speaking thank you god for allowing the preacher father and the conversationalist son to come together and show what can happen in the body of christ where two or more of us are gathered in his name it is my honor to give my son the privilege to do the prophetic blessing today as we say good morning now unto him who was able to keep us from falling and to present us faultless before the presence of his glory to the only wise god our savior be glory and majesty dominion and power i call us blessing the city blessed in the field blessed when we come and bless when we go in jesus name amen [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] you
