ah yes I shouldn't have done that ladies and gentlemen today I have a little bit of an exclusive for you because inside of these boxes are the brand new zephrus G laptops from Asus the G14 and the g16 2024 a massive thank you for the way to Aces RG for actually sponsoring this video and sending them out as I say a little bit of an exclusive wearing my scissors let's start off with the smaller and slightly less powerful G14 I mean I don't think there's actually going to be too much in it it is of course going to depend on the specification that you go for there's always quite a wide range really so it depends on your budget and ultimately what you need from your gaming laptop and I say gaming laptop but the zephrus range has always appealed to me actually because this aims to be a bit more of a do all solution rather than just a gaming laptop that's quite big bulky this is more meant to be a laptop that you can take with you anywhere here we are look brand new and sealed just for me you won't find this at CES and I tell you what actually my first impression of this is that it doesn't really look like a gaming laptop which to me is awesome because I don't want to go into Starbucks have like some big bulky machine and granted when I do go to a lot of meetings and things with a lot of press from various different sort of outlets it does always look a little bit silly when they turn up with a huge gaming laptop as their day-to-day machine but if you came to the office or the coffee shop with this then you are going to get looks but certainly for the right reasons because this as I say does not instinctively resemble a gaming laptop more even like an Ultrabook this thing is ridiculously thin I mean when have you ever really seen a gaming laptop like this it's worth noting that the G14 is going to be AMD this is up to what it's the new 8,000 range of mobile processors where you go for the g16 then you get Intel's core Ultra and again specifications will vary but hopefully both will have very good performance I mean let's get this under the overhead so you can almost share my first impressions with me definitely a thing of beauty Now isn't it but let's see if this actually has any battery no I have a feel feeling that the irony with this by the way is that the power brick is probably going to be a fair bit thicker than the laptop itself and it certainly does seem to appear that way doesn't it I mean this is a 180 W power brick so obviously that's going to be shared between the GPU and the CPU and I suppose everything else that goes onto the laptop itself but it's not going to be as big as the one you'll find in the larger g16 and this does actually go up to RTX 4070 whereas this does go all the way up to a 4090 again the CPUs and things will be completely different but you can power both of these rigs over a US BC cable as well so if you do want to use this as more of a traditional laptop you don't actually have to carry this around with you just to be aware that obviously you won't be able to get the full power into this if you're going to be properly or I suppose fully utilizing this or maybe you just want to play games it's definitely worth noting that the power cable on this is proprietary it looks like USBC but it's ever so slightly thicker but it is also reversible so I don't think there'd be a huge amount of issues there connect on the right hand side just like that next to it you have HDMI 2.1 which is going to be great for 4K 120 output which is becoming more and more common these days especially if you got a high-end television then you've got a 40 GB per second USBC is that a 10 yes a 10 GB per second USB 3 headphone microphone combo Jack then on the other side you've got a Micro SD would prefer that it was full size but I understand space is always a bit of a limitation then you've got another 10 gig usba a and a 10 gig USBC with display port output as well and to be fair for a laptop this thin that is actually a fair amount of ports obviously the main one that's missing is going to be Ethan which if you're a DieHard desk gamer you probably will want to get an adapter but as we know 50% of us use Wi-Fi for gaming anyway so I don't think it's actually going to bother too many people it's always nice to see ports at the back that we don't have here but again this is a really Slim laptop so I don't think that was ever going to happen and so you've got some ventilation down the side but now that this does have some juice I think we can open this up and actually see what we have on offer and there is actually some lighting on the back here as well he says and then it doesn't come on where have you gone maybe Asus are actually being sensible and they don't have the RGB unless you plug it in there you go and I don't know this for sure but I would assume that there's probably a way to customize this so that your charge level can actually be displayed on the back which is quite good it's a bit of utility from what would otherwise be a gaming Centric feature but that's pretty cool going to make yourself stand out but obviously not a reason to buy this device but the whole thing just comes alive really you've got this lovely RGB keyboard and even just signing into the window and using this pretty large trackpad actually and all of the windows gestures and things work really well on this this is definitely a premium laptop that is going to compete with the likes of the MacBook I mean the whole point really of something like this is that you get all of the utility of a gaming PC but then in the form factor of something like a Macbook oh whoa whoa whoa whoa hang on a second I was going to move on to the g16 but I've just realized I've missed out the best feature perhaps about this laptop which is both of these have high refresh rate OLED screens two 240 HZ on the g16 whereas this one I'm going to guess 144 oh I'm wrong I'm sorry guys I've let you down it's 120 a on this topic though I do actually want to draw your attention to quite a big difference between these two laptops I don't think it's going to make drastic difference to anybody but a lot of people won't understand it so let me explain well this HDR 500 certified display is OLED and it has a resolution of 280 by 80 00 so what the marketing will term as 3K and it looks absolutely stunning there's no doubt about it especially if you get this running in HDR it is going to blow you away but the difference I wanted to mention to you is while both of these are sporting the same HDR and both are OLED the g16 actually has a slightly lower resolution this is a 2K display whereas this is a 3K but this as I say is 120 HZ whereas this goes all the way to 240 on an OLED display should we get this out of the box I'm sure this one will be more expensive but again it's definitely worth remembering that you are going to get even higher grade components in this of course you're going to get that larger display the higher refresh rates but this is now going to be an Intel laptop rather than the ryzen that you'll find on the 14in version and this one actually is a completely different color I do wonder whether you'll get more fingerprints on this as a result of that more metallic finish but especially on the inside that looks really cool doesn't it it's so thin again it really does blow my mind really how you can get so much power into something as thin as this and the cool thing actually about these new Intel laptops is that they come with the oh God what's it called the low power efficiency CES and I should know this because Intel actually took me on a little press trip to Malaysia last year where I got to see these new meteor almost said all the lake these new meteor Lake CPUs actually being manufactured and it was genuinely one of the best things I've ever seen massive thank you to Intel for actually making that possible cuz that was so cool to see all these little chips being sort of scanned in and then sort of fused together with their new process really really cool but what it actually means to you someone that might consider buying a laptop like this is with these lower power efficient cores it means that if you're going to use this as more of just a general laptop and you want to have it as like an email machine during the day then you should actually get significantly better battery life as you get two of these low power efficiency CES baked within it on top of the usual efficiency and then performance CES I mean actually of all the things that we've got going on here that we could start to talk about the thing that's actually grabbed my attention first is how relatively lightweight this is because compared to the 14 there's not actually a massive amount of difference this is deceptively light I mean here I've got the strix G14 so obviously a completely different sort of laptop but it's the one from last year and obviously this is way heavier despite the fact this has a smaller Chassy I/O does also give us a fullsize SD card reader so this alone might make it worth stepping up up to the 16in version if you are a content creator and then on the other side we have a thunderbolt usba a headphone microphone combo same HMI 2.1 then actually what looks like the same power jack and this is a ever so slightly larger power brick but not anything crazy and I'm pretty sure this will vary depending on the version that you get but this one is a 240 W once again doing that comparison with our larger size strix G brick and obviously this is one of the tradeoffs though right of going for this particular zephrus laptop or any laptop really that's like all about gaming has these really highend components inside but then wants to be a little bit Slimmer you you're always going to be a little bit compromised when it comes to thermals and both of these do have really good thermal specifications I suppose for the size but again unless you have something that's thicker where you can just use physics to get rid of that heat a little bit more easily then obviously the compromise is going to be on the power so you can go for an RTX 490 on the larger size 16in version but no it is going to be limited to I think it's 115 Watts rather than 150 watts that you can get on like a top speec thicker gaming laptop so this is going to be a compromise but obviously if you're willing to accept that for let's be honest what is a far more useful product dayto day then I can see the appeal I mean to be fair I don't know if I'm actually allowed to do this but how about we take the larger size laptop apart and then we can show you inside what the calling system actually looks like but just in case I can't and this bit gets cut from the video then both of these do share a very similar design when it comes to the cooling but the higher end versions of the 16in version do get a vapor chamber which is going to help with thermal conductivity reduce noise but then both of them also use the new arc 2 calling system let me just check my notes second gen Arc flow fans woo and this bit doesn't really matter by the way but you should note that we have star headed torque screws on this so not your standard phillips cross head that you'll find on some laptops but again remember this is a pre-production model so I guess there could be some changes by the time you sort of get your own one in equip our tr5 yes there we go and then let's get unscrewing oh there's more screws under here that that caught me out that should just pop off nothing to report on this side and then what do we have here well clearly we've got some end up 2 storage under here I'm not not sure I want to remove that cuz Asus might tell me off so we'll leave that for now but you do have another slot here which is easily accessible which is good but yeah obviously our full calling system is here this is a 90w hour battery on this larger size one obviously slightly smaller on the 14in but where's our memory am I going mad and I mean to me this almost suggests that they don't want you to access this bit is it because the ram is soldered down hey s are going to be so mad oh we have action ah yes I shouldn't have done that but we've done it now this is the whole cooling system with the liquid metal well you get to see it I mean that still doesn't explain where the ram is does it I guess it's on the motherboard itself which makes it even faster and you have lower latency but obviously means you can't do a user upgrade it's good that I've done this so you don't have to go through all of this yourself turns out the bits that they make easy access ible are more easily accessible cuz you're not going to be upgrading this bit am I going to have to replace that liquid metal nail probably but here we have our powered on g16 and initial Impressions again very very premium and there is a little bit more Flex I'd say in this one purely just down to the larger size but the body is very rigid and I think you'll be very impressed if you do end up spending a fair chunk of money on this that you are getting very premium device it's the screen that will hit you straight away again I mean OLED as a I say HDR 500 nits true black it's going to be phenomenal right and if you are a Creator then this goes up to DCI P3 100% of that color space which is pretty cool and because again it's OLED you've got the true black so everything really does pop out all of these fireworks here have a real brightness to them but they're not surrounded by a load of haloing and you don't get like washed out bits of the image or anything like that it's really really very cool and if you are going to be doing any gaming on this which you almost certainly are then you're going to be turning on the wow you're going to be turning on the HDR and really letting your games talk sorry I've just got distracted with how good that looks I mean all of the LED neon signs and Vegas very topical but both of these actually now come with npus and it's going to be a bit of a watch this space moment really because this is all about AI essentially the principle is to accelerate any AI workloads that you're doing so especially like Adobe suite or many other things that will come and start to take advant Vantage of this personally speaking I wouldn't say this is a game changer today but even over the next year or so it's going to be huge because if you think now most laptops or most new laptops that AMD and Intel will sell will support these AI functions it's not going to be long before developers really do start to take full advantage of them so that is pretty cool if you are going to be video editing then obviously a larger screener is always going to help you a lot but purely in terms of gaming then I think if it was me personally I would look at the 14in version and then look at maybe getting an external display as well then you get the full Best of Both Worlds whereas if you want one laptop that's going to do everything and you're going to game on this screen all of the time then chlo going for the 16in is going to make a lot of difference but until we actually test uh all of the benchmarks the game playay thermals Acoustics we can't say for sure which way you should go but the screens alone make these really really interesting obviously all of the extra specifications from the CPU as well there's definitely a lot more to look at so do get subscribed if you're not already for the full review of these devices when they land in the studio and if you do want to check out current pricing on anything that is featured in this video then I will leave links to everything as soon as I can with my affiliate links listed down below let me know your thoughts down below which way would you go do you think these new laptops are call would you make of the olad screens and we'll catch you in the next
