before we get into the iceberg i wanted to give a big shout out to agrobot for creating the iceberg chart and helping me with some of the entries this is the lost and cancelled video games iceberg how many do you recognize half-life 2 episode 3 hl2 episode 3 is probably one of the most infamous vaporware or a piece of software that was hyped up and never released for the longest time many half-life fans believed that valve abandoned the franchise in favor of multiplayer games like cs go and dota 2. this mindset held up until half-life alex was announced and was released on march 23 2020 there have been attempts at creating a successor to episode 2 episode 3 began development in 2008 and the developers struggled to find new gameplay innovations in the aging source engine so team members left episode 3 to focus on other games like left 4 dead team fortress 2 etc soon valve occupied themselves with source 2 and virtual reality leaving little room for half-life development as they developed source 2 valve began to create little test projects to fully realize the engine's capabilities some of these projects include a role-playing game called rpg an open world left 4 dead and a project titled half-life 3 this project will have the player scaling a building to find a hostage and defeat any enemies along the way the project suffered from issues with source 2 because the engine was simply not finished in 2015 valve revealed the first source 2 vr demo robot repair to announce the vive vr headset and their partnership with htc during the development of the lab valve created shooter an arcade shoot-em-up where the player defeats combine soldiers in a battle arena this shooter prototype used old half-life 2 r assets and could have provided the foundation of half-life alex the mini-game was cut from the lab due to time constraints in 2016 valve developed e1m1 a tech demo to prove that a fully fleshed half-life game could be possible for vr the demo was successful in engaging the play testers with exploring the virtual environments jump starting half-life alex while alex's development was kept secret at the time the community saw a glimpse of what episode 3 could have been in 2017 former half-life series writer mark laidlaw uploaded a blog post titled epistle 3. this so-called fan fiction details the events of gordon and alex traveling to the borealis to save judith mossman and destroy the ship's experiment star fox 2 snes nintendo and argonaut software began development on star fox 2 in december 1993. it would have used the new super fx 2 chip which had more computing power to bring in new features such as free roaming 3d levels this game was subjected to much experimentation such as adding platforming levels and roguelike mechanics by mid 1995 the game was 95 complete but nintendo was concerned that the visuals wouldn't hold up to the recently announced playstation and sega saturn so the game was cancelled without any formal announcement as they continued to develop the n64 the game sat nintendo's archives for years and the game wasn't included in nintendo's virtual console rom images began leaking onto the internet showing early tech demos and a multiplayer mode prototype in august 2002 an anonymous nintendo employee leaked a near-complete rom which allowed fans to patch the game and translate it into english despite its cancellation the dav team completed keyway testing and localization with lead programmer dylan cuthbert claiming that the leaked roms were far from complete he also stated that legal issues with argonaut games were why the super fx games were never re-released however in 2017 nintendo surprisingly released star fox 2 along with the snes classic edition marking the first time super fx games were re-released nintendo claims issues with super effects emulation were the reasons why the star fox games were never released on virtual console star fox and star fox 2 were also included in the switch online snes service earthbound 64. earthbound 64 better known as the original mother 3 was a nintendo 64 game developed by ape incorporated and hal laboratory it was first announced at nintendo's space world 1999 with a trailer and a playable demo showcased it was initially developed for the snes before shifting to the nintendo 64 dd a magnetic disk drive peripheral for the n64 it was then ported into a standard n64 cartridge because the 64 dd was commercially unsuccessful development was long and complicated ape and corporate were inexperienced with creating 3d worlds as they jumped into development without going through a prototyping phase because they shifted from the 64 dd to a standard cartridge the team faced many technical constraints with the cartridge's limited space with these development troubles hal laboratory faced the possibility of bankruptcy and left mother 3 producer and how president satori iwata primarily absent from the project on august 20th 2000 mother creator shigesato itoy announced that the n64 version of mother 3 was cancelled only about 30 of the final game was completed and would have taken 2 more years to be properly finished the cancellation however did not spell the end of mother 3. in 2003 a tv advertisement for the mother 1 and 2 game boy advance compilation announced the future release of mother 3. ito expressed that it would retain the pixelated style of mother 2 as he became uninterested in cutting edge graphics he also changed the story's tone to be more lighthearted rather than the darker n64 plot that would quote betray the player mother 3 was redeveloped for the game boy advanced released exclusively in japan in 2006. there has been a lot of speculation on why mother 3 never received an international release the game was released late into the game boy advances lifespan as the nintendo ds was released only two years earlier the original earthbound sold poorly in the united states slightly due to nintendo's pretty bad marketing mother 3 could have sparked controversy with its criticism towards capitalism and the depiction of non-binary stereotypes in the mcgypsy characters because of its japanese exclusivity an unofficial translation led by clyde tomato mandolin was released in 2008 allowing english-speaking players to enjoy the next installment of the mother series banjo-3e banjo 3d began as a joke made by gruntilda at the end of banjo-tooie at spaceville 2000 a tech demo called banjo-3e which shows banjo-kazooie facing a group of enemies sparked speculations on a new banjo-kazooie game however the tech demo was only shown to demonstrate the gamecube's capabilities as rare creative designer greg males denied any plans for a banjo game on the gamecube after rare was bought out by microsoft in 2000 plans for a remake of banjo-kazooie called banjo x were found on the abandoned xbox dev kit it was said that it would have the nuts and bolts art style and the characters would slowly become self-aware that they were in a remake items from banjo-tooie would have been included in the remake along with re-adapting the levels while developing banjo x rarer is also creating banjo kazumi a racing game that revolves around customizing vehicles and racing other banjo characters after both projects were cancelled they were combined and repurposed into banjo-kazooie nuts and bolts released on the xbox 360. super mario 64.2 with how successful and critically acclaimed super mario 64 is rumors circulate around a sequel being developed for the n64 dd names for the sequel included super mario 64 2 super mario 64 dd or super mario 128 which was reused for the gamecube tech demo in space roll 2000 not much is known about the sequel besides mario creator shigeru miyamoto stating that it would have multiplayer with luigi as a playable character in an interview with nintendo power miyamoto claimed to have a demo of this concept running on his computer well for over a year now at my desk a prototype program of mario and luigi has been running on my monitor we've been thinking about the game and it may be something that could work on a completely new game system there was reportedly a leak of this demo but no videos or images have ever been found nintendo could have implemented some of these ideas into super mario 64 ds the game was assumed to be canceled after the 64 dd became discontinued in 2014 a prototype of super mario 64 on the 64 dd was found by game collector jimmy 130 the prototype was an enhanced port of super mario 64 debunking claims that the 64 dd game was a sequel some changes between the original and disk drive versions include a different title screen slightly enhanced textures different music for the intro and longer loading times the rom has been dumped and can be downloaded online pocket monsters rpg pocket monster's rpg also called pocket monster 64 was an unreleased pokemon title for the n64 dd developed by game freak shigeru miyamoto first mentioned the game on electronic gaming monthly stating that 10 people are working on the game and is uncertain of a western release in another interview several months later miyamoto clarified that three pokemon games were being made for the 64 dd those being pokemon snap pokemon stadium and pocket monster 64. after these interviews information on the game began to dwindle and no other mentions of pocket monster 64 ever surfaced the game was assumed to cancel because the 64 dd failed and game freak were busy creating pokemon gold and silver some claim the game was cancelled due to a statement made by gamefreak co-founder jinichi matsuda who stated that mainline pokemon rpg shouldn't be on home consoles later on two pokemon rpgs were made for the gamecube pokemon colosseum and pokemon xd gale of darkness sonic xtreme sonic xtreme was a cancelled sega saturn game developed by sega technical institute sonic extreme would have been the first 3d sonic game what could have been a competent rival to super mario 64 the game was instead played with numerous delays and internal problems causing it to go to development hell such as having to switch from the genesis to the 32x then to the sake of saturn and windows because of this rushed port the game performed poorly with the saturn's hardware sometimes the game would play at three to four frames per second one of the most infamous aspects of this game's development was the executive involvement the game had two different engines one for the main levels and the other used for boss fights the boss fight impressed sega executives who would then tell the developers to use that engine for the entire game this meant that all the levels had to be rewritten to work with the boss engine their engine was similar to sonic team's knight into dreams and the team requested to use knight's source code to speed up development however sonic creator yuji naka demanded sti to stop using the knight's code he even threatened to leave sega after hearing about his use in sonic xtreme he wanted to keep his source code within the sonic team and they were using the knights engine to create their own 3d sonic game the game was ultimately cancelled as the stress from development was so high it almost became lethal programmer chris coffin developed pneumonia and lead designer chris send got ill to the point where he was told that he only had six months to live although he did survive due to an absence of a sonic game on the saturn the developers decided to port 3d sonic blast instead there was supposed to be a tie-in film produced by mgm but plans fell through after mgm and sega of america disagreed with the plans since then there have been leaked demos surfacing on the internet starting with a disk sold for 2500 by an anonymous collector in 2007 the assembler games community purchased the disc off the collector through crowdfunding later they released an animated gif and leaked the disk image online the demo showed sonic moving around the levels without any enemies with the level ending after five minutes fans on the sonic retro forums obtain an original sonic extreme source code and developed it into a playable build mega man legends 3 mega man legends 3 was announced for the nintendo 3ds on september 29th 2010 mega man designer kg nafune was asked about a sequel to mega man legends 2 and experienced that he wanted to make that sequel but couldn't at the time details about the game were further revealed at the 2010 new york comic con capcom allowed fans to submit their designs for mega man and a new character arrow however inafune would leave capcom causing him to lose access to the mega man ip despite his absence they decided to continue development capcom announced mega man legends 3 prototype version as a prelude to the main game with baron as the main character on july 18 2011 capcom canceled both mega man legends 3 and the prototype version the only person outside of capcom who got to play both of the games was chris hoffman a nintendo power journalist according to capcom uk's twitter the game was cancelled because the fans were not involved enough they would later apologize and clarify that the lack of interaction with the development rooms was the cause of cancellation inafune was disappointed with the cancellation and offered capcom to complete the game with his own team capcom would refuse his offer as of now neither game has gotten leaked online and remains in capcom's archive south park gta clone in 2005 ubisoft and buzz monkey software began developing an open world south park game for the playstation 2 nintendo gamecube and xbox buzz monkey software wanted to recreate the entire town of south park and have all four boys become playable characters the gameplay would be similar to grand theft auto with the players stealing vehicles fighting pedestrians and roaming the town the story would progress through linear missions that involve combat and puzzle solving buzz monkey also proposed a split screen multiplayer mode where players would either race or fight each other the game was cancelled for seemingly unknown reasons however former developers speculate that one of the game's producers who acted rudely and unprofessional could be a potential reason others claim that the game's schedule was tight and the team's inexperienced with creating a triple a title caused issues on september 27 2015 youtube channel happy console gamer discovered a prototype and a debugged xbox console that had demos such as the combat test room and unfinished story missions a cutscene of cartman inside a mental hospital has also surfaced on the internet besides the xbox build and leak cutscene no other builds were ever found dsiware dsiware refers to any games and software purchased through the dsi shop in its eight year existence there have been about 500 games made for the dsi shop on april 1st 2017 nintendo decided to shut down the dsi shop with the ability to redownload games being removed at a later date the users dsi games were transferred to a 3ds if they had one and most of the dsiware became available on nintendo eshop however in january 2021 nintendo removed hundreds of dsiware games off the nintendo eshop the removal of these games came unannounced and fans began to worry that nintendo would close down the 3ds shop after a few days the dsi were returned to the eshop leading to users to believe that it was merely a mistake some games didn't return to the marketplace such as word searcher 3 and digger dan and kaboom at the time of writing the nintendo east shop for 3ds is still active even though the 3ds itself has been discontinued assassin's creed ds although there are two assassin creed games released on the nintendo ds this entry could be about assassin's creed lost legacy it was a 3ds game that was first announced during ubisoft's e3 2010 press conference many fans have noted that the proposed plot is similar to assassin's creed revelations implying that ubisoft retool lost legacy into a main series entry revelations writer darby mcdivitt confirms his idea while talking about the canceled game to joystick you may have heard of the game lost legacy for the 3ds it was announced but that kind of morphed into this idea being revelations the story that was announced about lost legacy was that ezio would go to masseyoff and investigate the holy land there were no leaked screenshots or videos of the 3ds game with the logo being the only piece of media left prey too in 2006 3d realms ceo scott miller announced that prey 2 had started development however in 2009 3d realms transferred the prairie trade marches any max media the parent company to bethesda at this point the game was still a first person shooter accompanied by portal and gravity mechanics bethesda would then re-announce the game in 2011 revealing a new main character and an emphasis on an open world meanwhile human head studios the developer of the first prey will continue to work on prairie two near the end of 2011 tensions began to rise within prey too human head students would quietly cease development due to unstated reasons because these reasons were not public and the lack of news from bethesda or human head most people considered prey too in development hell project lee jason blair made a tweet that could hint to the type of environment human had had to endure what happened to prey too from where i sat was political and petty and potentially little human head had a great game ign also speculated that human head and bethesda were not in good terms the publisher pushed for stricter milestones and wanted to buy out the studio in 2013 it had been reported that arcane studio took over development internal emails were leaked stating that arcane would scrap all of human head's work and would mold the game into a spiritual successor to system shock in 2014 bethesda officially canceled prey 2 at pax australia in 2016 bethesda announced a reboot of prey developed by arcane the reboot would not use any assets from the cancelled sequel and is related to the original game only by name fallout van buren van buren is the code name for fallout 3 developed by black isle studios creators of fallout and fallout 2. the city began their third attempt at fallout 3 after they cancelled baldur's gate 3 the black hound interplay entertainment black isle's parent company would create a team to develop fallout brotherhood of steel who met with black owl studios to plan out both games as time went on more and more developers began leaving black isle because of enterprise financial problems on december 8th 2003 the game was officially cancelled after interplay filed for bankruptcy the van buren build a fallout 3 was nearly complete at the time of its cancellation lockout studios had its members split up to work on other projects such as fallout brotherhood of steel 2 another cancelled fallout game bethesda softworks bought their rights to fallout and began developing their own fallout 3 from scratch as they created a first person action role playing game with a completely new plot in 2007 a tech demo and a design document of van buren was leaked into the internet in 2010 several members of black owl studios would form obsidian entertainment and develop fallout new vegas with bethesda some elements from van buren were used in new vegas such as the hoover dam and the new california republic final fantasy 64. final fantasy 6 the interactive cg game also known as final fantasy 64 was a demo created by squaresoft in 1995 to begin the transition into 3d graphics knowledge of the demo came to light in a 1995 issue of game fan magazine where they claim the next final fantasy game will be on the nintendo 64 of course this would be proven false when final fantasy vii was released on the playstation squaresoft decided to use sony's platform because they grew frustrated with the n64 cartridge memory limitation and nintendo's strict policies the demo was first shown at siggraph 95 featuring tara lock and shadow fighting against the stone golem and news battle system the game was running on the silicon graphics onix a dev kit for the n64 and used a mouse cursor to draw various shapes that corresponded with different actions the sig graph presentation was also found on the final fantasy 7 demo disc and has been released online however the demo itself has not been found and is still sought after by the final fantasy community steampunk batman gotham by gaslight is a batman comic by brian augustin and mike mignola which revolves around an 18th century version of batman who hunts down jack the ripper a game based on gotham by gaslight was planned by daewon studios as they created an early prototype however publisher thq failed to secure the rights of the comic and cancelled the game artist julie farrell released several pieces of concept art on her blog showing off the gothic steampunk aesthetic it included menu screens and logos for the game youtube channel rez noir uploaded a video of prototype gameplay it shows an early rendition of batman as he walks around the streets of 19th century gotham most viewers were impressed with the demo and the concept art as it provided an interesting interpretation of batman pokemon green english port pocket monster's green is one of the first generation pokemon games that was not released outside of japan in the west nintendo released pokemon red and blue as blue had updated features that green didn't have some of these changes include tweaked dialogue improved sound updated sprites and overworld changes in 2004 pokemon red and blue were remade into pokemon fire red and leaf green on the game boy advanced pokemon blue's remake retained its japanese name of green because director junichi matsuda elaborated that the leaf represented a peaceful symbol and water conflicted with fire even with the remake fans strive to have english translations of the original gameboy rom there are numerous attempts to translate pokemon green with varying degrees of quality as of now no plans to create an official translation for the game boy have ever been found dragon ball z vrvs dragon ball z vrvs was a 1994 arcade game developed by band presto it utilized motion sensors so the player could use their body to move their character the game was initially planned to have a 3do port but was cancelled due to the 3do's poor sails according to a french magazine the game would have been renamed to either dragon ball z zelda gokeki da or dragon ball z the confrontation and i sell in 3do the 3do would have replaced the final boss ozado with cell the game was first shown at a japanese convention in 1994 and was written about in weekly shonen jump number 11. some images of users playing the 3do port and in-game screenshots were found online there haven't been any leak builds available for download however donkey kong racing donkey kong racing was a planned sequel to diddy kong racing first announced at e3 2001. the e3 trailer that accompanied the announcement would become the only piece of media known from the game coverage of the game declined as developer rare only showcased star fox adventures at e3 2002 in 2002 microsoft bought out rare for 375 million dollars ending any chances of donkey kong racing from ever being finished star flux adventures would become rare's last nintendo game and any other titles and development will be made for xbox because donkey kong is a nintendo ip the game was reworked into saberman stampede an iep from ultimate play the game the previous studio tim and chris stamper created before founding rare saberman's stampede was cancelled in 2005 due to a lack of game development half-life dreamcast half-life for the dreamcast was first announced at the malia trade show in 2000 captivation digital laboratories would have developed the poor while gearbox software would create new content such as half-life blue shift half-life for dreamcast faced many delays as gamer viewers criticize the inconsistent frame rate long loading times and lack of online multiplayer the game will be delayed into june 2001 in an attempt to iron out these issues however on june 15th 2001 publisher sierra entertainment announced that the dreamcast port would be cancelled due to the failing sales of the dreamcast console the port was already completed only weeks away from shipping half-life blue shift would be released on pc and the visual upgrades would be used in the half-life high definition pack in 2003 a leaked build of the port was found online this build was dated back to may 23 2001 only one month before the game's cancellation in 2012 revenate 100 aka murphy black on youtube and their team converted the dreamcast version into a pc mod for half-life on steam cartoon network flash games back in the 2000s cartoon network's website was a popular hub for fun flash games based on their shows at the time however cartoon network started removing games based on shows that have stopped airing games from shows such as camp laszlo courage the cowardly dog and edda and eddie were delisted off the site causing fans to curate many archives adobe adding flash support also didn't help as cartoon number continued to restructure its games library there are plenty of flash alternatives like flash arch or blue maxima's flashpoint which may have some cartoon network games available even with these archival attempts there are plenty of missing cartoon network games lost to time as people continue to discuss their memories of playing them super mario's wacky worlds super mario's wacky worlds is a cancelled loose sequel to super mario world on the philips cdi system rather than the snes the game was developed by nova logic and was a part of a deal where nintendo would lend their ips for cdi games in exchange for an snes cd peripheral developed by philips it was first conceived when a nintendo sales executive told nova logic that an snes style game can be made on the cdi so they decided to create a super mario world sequel developer silas warner and john brooks would make a prototype in two weeks by working constant 24-hour shifts that prototype would later be expanded upon at the same time nova logic attempted to use the least amount of budget possible because they wanted to focus on other games such as the comanche series the demo impressed nintendo but they decided to cancel the game because of the cdi's low sales the final prototype had the most of the art and design finish even though there are no sound effects besides the jumping sound the music was taken from super mario world which could take advantage of the cd format's robust audio as of now three prototypes exist with one being sold on ebay for one thousand dollars these prototypes are very buggy with mario being unable to swim freezing enemies by touching them and levels loading to nothing a rum has been leaked online and is available for download team fortress invasion invasion was a cancelled iteration of team fortress 2 it was revealed after the half-life 2 source code was leaked in 2003 within the leak models for a human character and an alien were found the source code of team fortress 2 was revealed as well after scrapping team fortress 2 brotherhood in arms the first attempt at making a team fortress sequel valve abandoned the realistic style and conceptualized a steampunk sci-fi style the game would have 15-minute rounds called axe and pitted aliens and humans against each other as they fought for control zones invasion was ultimately scrapped as valve believe it grew too complicated and wanted to streamline the gameplay some parts of this build were reused in the invasion community update for the final game a playable build of invasion was created by the missing information team which showcases a match between humans and aliens as they fight each other for resources some of the previous classes from team fortress classic were supposed to appear in invasion but the mod only has 6 of those classes gary's mod xbox one port i couldn't really find anything about any console port of gary's mod but it sounds like a pretty interesting idea all i found was this petition of someone asking developer face punch studios to port the game onto xbox one and ps4 because they feel it's unfair that the game is pc exclusive other than that a console port of garry's mod at this point is pretty unlikely world of warcraft hall of tortured souls the hall of tortured souls more commonly known as the room of upside down sinners is a chamber submerged in water that had humans hooked upside down on chains initially the area was supposed to be inaccessible to players but glitching through a wall or dying to become a ghost allowed players to get in once inside rooms named the slow of despair and the pit of criminals can be found with the room of upside down sinners being the centerpiece these rooms were departure from wow's theme as it is more dark and ominous some believe these rooms were sealed off to prevent the game from getting an m for mature raiding however the area is now accessible in the conclusion of the brutal the lucid nightmare puzzle on an unrelated note this entry shares the same name as the microsoft excel 95 easter egg the easter rig is activated by going to the 95th row of a blank spreadsheet going to the help menu and clicking on the tech support button while holding down ctrl alt shift a window would pop up titled the hall of tortured chambers showing a first person perspective where the player can roam the world the map consists of distorted brightly colored walls and pathways that sort of resembles doom players would find panels with the name of the excel team scrolling down at the credits panel if the player does a 180 turn and then types excel kfa a wall would vanish and reveal an eerie picture of the development team doom original floppy disks doom was first released in 1993 so it's a given that they would be released on floppy disks it's software pioneered in shareware where one would download the first episode of the game and then buy the other episodes via mail because of doom's popularity many other companies started selling their own copies of doom on floppy disks these disks are sought out by collectors as many of them can go for lucrative prices online in 2017 the doom creator john romero sold his original doom 2 discs for more than 3 thousand dollars manhunt violent bdsm segment included while the first manhunt didn't really get any sensors the sequel manhunt 2 had plenty of issues with the esrv at release the game was initially rated with an ao for adults only rating which essentially bans it from any console platforms and retail stores in response the developer rockstar games censored some graphic scenes to get an m for mature rating relieving the game from any previously mentioned restrictions rockstar incorporated censorship methods such as blurring their execution scenes removing innocent characters and excluding decapitations there have been fan made attempts at de-censoring the console versions while the pc version is uncensored by default the playstation 2 and playstation portable versions were causing modders to remove any censorship in cracked versions although i couldn't find any evidence of a bdsm scene the ability to castrate an enemy with a pair of pliers were removed [Music] addictinggames.com not too sure why this entry is in the iceberg even the creator isn't sure why they put on the iceberg anyways addicting games is an online flash game site that was launched in 2002 predicting games is one of the more influential flash game websites along the likes of cool math games and new grounds in the 2000s it amassed a wide range of online games and garnered a huge audience however it's possible that there are plenty of lost games on the website especially with adobe flash's discontinuation fallout brotherhood of steel two interplay entertainment began developing fallout brotherhood of steel two before the first brotherhood of steel was released targeting a christmas 2004 release its development was one of the reasons why blackout studios fallout 3 was cancelled however brotherhood of steel 2 would be cancelled as well after interplay went into bankruptcy even though the game was nearly complete some plot elements from the van buren build of fallout 3 would have been reused the game would revolve around four distinct characters and have a new stealth system the story follows a war between the brotherhood of steel and the ciphers as decipherers discover a garden of ethan creation kit or geck a story element from another cancelled fallout game fallout tactics 2. in 2009 a design document with in-game images was leaked supplying the community with most of the information known today as of writing there are no leaked videos or game builds [Music] ruby dung ruby dung was a strategy game developed by notch before he created minecraft its gameplay mechanics are a mystery as not much is known other than it was inspired by a dwarf fortress notch focused on accessibility with ruby dung unlike the previously mentioned inspiration which is known for its complexity and hard difficulty the game was cancelled early in its development and its source code was reused in minecraft ruby dug inspired notches to create minecraft because he wanted to have the game set in a first person perspective but found the graphics too low quality he would later come across the game infiniminer which inspired the fundamentals of minecraft mean girls the game in 2009 505 games began developing a nintendo ds tie-in game for the film mean girls it was scheduled to be released on april 20th 2010 but was ultimately cancelled not much is known about the game besides sharing the same plot as the film the esrb claims it's an adventure game where the player can interact with characters through conversations one thing to note is the absence of the film's star lindsey lohan on the front cover the official reason is that the publisher couldn't afford to have her on the cover art however some believe the real reason she is not on the box art is because of her previous substance abuse scandals and overall poor reputation there is some evidence on what the gameplay could be like five screenshots were found on multiplayer.it an italian gaming website the gameplay seems to just be a collection of mini games with in-between cutscenes that retell the film's plot batman arkham asylum wii port batman arkham asylum was planned to have a wii port developed by red fly studios the developer has worked on several other wii ports such as star wars the force unleashed ii devil may cry and star wars x-wing vs tie fighter it's unknown why the wii port of arkham asylum was cancelled but some speculate the wii's weaker hardware caused issues however red flag studio's youtube channel revealed gameplay of the wii port consisting of a fight between batman and a group of enemies on a rooftop broken up with stealth sections apparently this demo only took a few weeks to make it would have been intriguing how red fly would incorporate motion controls into arkham asylum if at all demo discs demo discs were once the most popular method for marketing new games as consoles begin to utilize low cost cds publishers would promote their upcoming titles by offering free demo collections these disks were found in many places like magazines cereal boxes retail stores other games and much much more these discs grew in popularity with the original playstation and arguably peaked in the sixth generation of consoles nowadays most demos are digitally downloaded and these discs are now considered a collector's item they were probably hundreds of these demo discs and most of them could be considered lost grand theft auto 64. the first grand theft auto was planned to be poured onto the nintendo 64. the port will introduce upgraded graphics new levels and new mechanics this port was previewed by gaming outlets such as ign and was covered by numerous articles online the port was cancelled because of unknown reasons some were led to believe that gta 64 was fake because no official screenshots were ever shown that was until lychee from assembler games found in-game screenshots taken from various spanish and italian magazines the environments had blurred textures and elements of 3d graphics it was later found in the design document of the first gta rockstar had made plans to port the game onto n64 written as ultra 64 at the time dead space mobile port dead space had a mobile spin-off for ios and android devices created by iron monkey studios there was a planned release on windows phone 8 but was canceled before release the gameplay is similar to the original dead space although it utilizes touch screen controls the plot takes place between dead space and dead space 2 with vandal as the protagonist instead of isaac clark as of september 2015 the game was removed from the iowa's app store but the download is still available for android users although they have to circumvent some loopholes to access the game those who decide to play the game on newer android devices will run into issues with the audio even though the game had been discontinued fans have created a remastered apk or android application package that allows the game to run on modern android devices halo ds a demo of a halo game of the nintendo ds started being discussed around 2004 some claim that halo would be ported to the game boy advance but was quickly denied by microsoft in 2007 ign writer matt casamasina would release a blog post claiming he had played halo ds which was quote completely up and running and fully playable in response to the blog bungie employees frank o'connor and brian gerrard told siliconera there has never been an officially funded or sanctioned development of any sort of ds halo game this led to accusations towards casa messina and ign for lying about the game's existence on october 2nd 2007 casa messina responded to these accusations by uploading a youtube video of himself playing a demo of halo ds with his fellow co-workers he will play a multiplayer match on camera with writer mark bozon after showing some of the menu screens upon inspection of the game elements some viewers believe that the demo was made by modding the ds version of goldeneye rogue agent with this discovery some believe the demo was made by electronic arts and in space both involved with rogue agents development pokemon red blue event cartridges throughout the pokemon games each version would have a legendary pokemon that could only be obtained by attending special events the legendary pokemon for pokemon red and blue would be mew at events such as space world 1997 players would insert their cartridges into these special machines that would load new into their game another way to get a legendary pokemon would be to trade it at a local retail store nintendo would send out these special cartridges filled with legendary pokemons to stores such as toys r us and walmart the employees would manually trade with the player to give out these legendary pokemon after the event is over the stores will return the games and hardware back to nintendo so they can dispose of it permanently this method of giving out legendaries has been abandoned in recent generations making these thrown out retailer cards extremely sought after the pokemon red and blue event cartridges are some of the most rarest cartridges out there and the aging save batteries inside could possibly delete the data these have roblox 2004 beta build roblox is one of the most popular massive online multiplayer games it began development in 2003 by david bazuki and eric cassell where it was first named go blocks before being changed to dinah blocks it was then ultimately changed to roblox a portmanteau of robots and blocks because dynablox was an unmemorable name even with roblox's popularity any builds dating back to 2005 and 2006 have disappeared with no archives found within the site these builds could have been removed when roblox moved servers a while back and had to delete old content from their website to save space as of now there are only a few pre-2010 builds found with the earliest dating back to 2007. in 2012 an installer for a roblox build dating back to 2008 was found by the tumblr blog client search in 2017 fenobi user red z found a user who kept roblox clients dating back to 2007 on their hard drive another fenobi user kalis would contact the hard drive owner and virtual boy one of the first stereoscopic 3d consoles at launch the console was critically panned and was discontinued a year later a virtual boy version of goldeneye 007 was planned to be released along with the n64 game in the virtual boy itself where denied the claim that they developed the game which implies that nintendo internally developed it as they had the rights of the james bond games at the time besides the screen shot from a brochure and the fact that it would have been an action racing game not much is known in 1996 nintendo decided to cancel their autumn line of games including goldeneye 007 because of the virtual boy's low sales no roms or leaks were ever found religious games from the atari 2600 the atari 2600 is one of the first successful video game consoles in the united states which means there are plenty of weird video games made for it there may have been plenty of religious games made for the 2600 one of the most notable ones being red sea crossing the player takes the role of moses who dodges snakes and clams as he crosses the red sea this is based on the bible story where moses helps the israelites escape egypt by having god part the red sea so they can walk across this game is extremely rare to find as a cartridge was sold online in september 2012 for 10 400 making it the most expensive 2600 cartridges sold to date other than red sea crossing i couldn't find other religious games for the 2600 air world sword quest was a series of 2600 games made as a part of a contest each game would come with a comic book that explains the plot and provides clues to solving the puzzle to earn a piece of treasure valued at around twenty five thousand dollars there were supposed to be four tournaments representing the four elements of nature earthworld fire world water world and air world sword quest creative director todd fry mentioned that air would have been based on the ancient chinese text i ching the air world contest was cancelled because of the 1983 video game crash where the gaming market became too saturated and overall interest in video games heavily waned fry claimed that about 20 of the game was completed before it was cancelled and the accompanying comic book was never written the location of the air world prize has been heavily speculated some believe the prize is hanging in the house of former atari ceo jack trammell no prototype of the game was ever found star wars ewok adventure star wars return of the jedi ewok adventure is a cancelled shoot em up game for the atari 2600 the game was developed by atari and would have been published by the parker brothers atari finished developing the game but it was never released because the parker brothers marketing team believed the controls were too complex for the market at the time designer larry gelberg believed in the players being able to use the controls which caused parker brothers to shut down the project the player would have taken the role of an ewok who would hang glide to destroy the imperial army's shield generator the joystick would control the hang glider by making it go up or down to fly over enemies only one physical copy of the game exists and was possessed by gilberg in 1997 gelbrick would give his prototype to his colleague son who sold the game for 1 680 nintendo world championships the nintendo world championships is a national tournament where players compete against each other on a special game cartridge players who were split up into age groups would play through customized versions of super mario brothers round racer and tetris the tournament's goals have the highest cumulative score within the time limit of about six and a half minutes the top winner of each age group would win ten thousand dollars in saving bonds a new 1990 geo metro convertible a 40-inch television and a gold-plated mario trophy after the tournaments ended the specialized cartridges had become one of the most valuable nes cartridges ever some have been bought for more than fifteen thousand dollars the number of cartridges made for the contest is unknown with the highest numbered cart labeled 353 it has been speculated that about 90 copies were given to finalists and 26 golden copies were given out through a nintendo power magazine contest although the rom is available for download the cartridge is a rarity and has become one of the most desired collectors items [Music] snes prototype for smash bros this entry is sort of incorrect some have thought that super smash bros began development on the snes utilizing the super fx chip however that isn't the case at the beginning of 1999 how designer master hero sakurai and satoru iwata began developing a fighting game prototype called dragon king the fighting game for the n64 the two created this prototype because they wanted to find unique ways to use the controller's analog stick and to test out a game with up to four players not much is known about the prototype these screenshots show four faceless fighters battling on a stage with the bureaucho neighborhood as the background sakurai felt that the game's atmosphere was lacking as he felt fighting games for home consoles needed more character development and other kinds of content so he opted to use existing nintendo characters and made a prototype that included mario donkey kong fox mcleod and samus fighting each other iwana initially asked shigeru miyamoto to use these characters in a demo but he denied any use so iwata didn't tell sakurai about his conversation with miyamoto and allowed development to continue the prototype was a success and was approved by nintendo launching the successful fighting franchise super smash bros original pong arcade cabinets pong is known as one of the earliest arcade games and the first commercially successful arcade game after atari released computer space game designer alan alcorn created a pong prototype as a training exercise which caught the attention of atari co-founders nolan bushnell and teb dabney they were impressed with the quality of alcorn's prototype and decided to fully manufacture the game with the success of pong and how to shape our kid games these original arcade machines are very lucrative like this recent listing i found on ebay going for about five thousand dollars the original 1972 cabinet could be considered lost they are the oldest and rarest form of pong one could find there are also plenty revisions of pong arcade machines such as arcade one up's pong four player pub table and a pong slot machine [Music] the game was first released on february 4th 2005 developed by superscape and disney interactive instead of square enix the pawn is similar to the original kingdom hearts and had remapped controls more suitable to mobile phones at the time after the v cast network was discontinued in 2012 the game is now inaccessible many have attempted to find the entire game one member on 4chan found a dump of the first chapter in 2020 a youtube channel kerr z1 managed to have the chapter running on the zebo a low-end console made for developing countries the rest of the chapters remain lost as of writing street fighter nes port the first street fighter was planned to have a port on the nes it is known that the game was first ported onto the turbografx cd under the name fighting street after the street fighter 30th anniversary collection was released in 2018 video game historian frank sifaldi revealed some information on the nes port he posted this screenshot of ryu and adon fighting on twitter claiming that he found the image buried deep in capcom's marketing archive sofaldi was responsible for the museum section in the anniversary collection and he continued to reveal other archive entries in the tweet's replies why the port was cancelled is unknown and as of writing this picture remains as the only piece of evidence of the port eric harris's doom wads on april 20 1999 two students eric harris and dylan klebold executed the columbine high school massacre one of the worst school shootings in u.s history investigations have found that harris was an avid fan of doom and made various wads doom's format for package files investigators speculated that harris made a wad with the layout of columbine high school they claimed that this wad was used for practice before the pair committed the horrific event some of his levels were released online under aliases such as reb and reb doomer although the columbine high school wad was never released the following are some of the wads are known to exist uac labs is a single player map taking place in the tech lab with new sound effects a slight gore increased to the enemy's death animations and contained bugs that prevented the player from achieving 100 completion mortal kombat doom featured an arena where players were the berserker power-up would fight each other it contained sound effects from the mortal kombat games and had a new music track killer is a death match level where players would fight each other on a large grass arena with the duke nukem voice line playing after the player respawns most of these levels have been archived and can be freely downloaded recently one of harris's watts contained mentions of realdoom.zip and is believed that it could be the long-rumored columbine level hezbollah training hezbollah is a lebanese political party and militant organization founded in 1985 to recruit younger members the organization launched a website called play and resist the website offered flash games that range from firing rocket launchers in israel to recreating a hezbollah attack on an israel outpost other than that not many people have been able to find the website itself and these flash games are considered lost along with these flash games the organization also created two pc games special force and special force 2 tale of the truthful pledge the first game utilized the genesis 3d engine and would have had the player take the role of a hezbollah member fighting against the israel defense forces the second game depicts a hezbollah member fighting in southern lebanon some have noted that special force 2 is just a far cry mod one last game hezbollah created is holy defense a mobile fps game released on the google play store it mostly follows the same formula found in the special force games with the player fighting against israeli soldiers to defend a mosque it's unknown if downloads of these games exist but there's plenty of special forces too and holy defense footage provided by news outlets and youtube channels kill switch kill switch is a supposed survival horror game developed in 1989 by the crevina corporation the game revolves around two characters gast and porto porta was the choice that most players made because gast was completely invisible making the game challenging to play however gas was the only character able to attack enemies through his fire breath and coal steam attack while portal can only change shape at random the player would exploit coal mines and would collect cassette tapes and decipher an extremely complicated code found on iron axes throughout the world after the player completes the game the screen would flash white and then it would delete itself this has made the game exceedingly rare and it seems that there are only a few copies left in the world supposedly one of the copies was sold for about seven hundred thousand dollars to yamamoto ryuichi and he would have documented entire playthrough of the game dak hunt scp-4962 is a game for the nes titled dak hunt remister developed by total soft corporation the game is shipped with a 50 caliber m2 browning machine gun colored similarly to the nes zapper the weapon functions as a real firearm with an ammunition fee and magazine that cannot be removed even with live rounds being shot the scp document explains the gun's anomaly rounds fired by scp-4962-a while aimed at the television screen displaying scp-4962 will demanifest upon fully exiting the barrel however the accompanying force and sounds typical of gunfire still occur with the rapid fire of the machine gun the gameplay can be hectic as ducks randomly spawn and glitch out while the player infinitely fires at the screen if the player fails to reach the level's goal this image appears as the game over it has been said that seeing this image after playing the game causes unsettling behavior in subjects some would begin to literally hunt and maim ducks as the dog begins to appear in their dreams this dog would continuously tell the subject to complete the game and becomes more aggressive if the player fails to do so there is no treatment for removing the dog from the player's consciousness ethnic cleansing ethnic cleansing is an fps game created by the white supremacist organization national alliance released on january 21st 2012. the player controls a neo-nazi as they participate in a quote race war killing racially stereotypical enemies in various neighborhoods national alliance founder william luther pierce estimated that a few thousand copies were made and the majority of the game's audience were white teenage boys the game is of course highly controversial with the anti-defamation league publicizing the game and lobbying against the genesis 3d developers to prevent any more racist games from being made the national alliance created a sequel called white law and wanted to create a whole series of racist games but it was never done the game is available for download but the physical disk could be considered lost was a supposed genesis game created in 1993 not much is known about the game besides the box art it was first mentioned in 4chan after users submitted the box art on the v board was some amused because the name included keck some have described the game as low quality only being found in bargain bins members on the v board described the gameplay as clunky with unfinished animations and awkward controls cat croc is an anthropomorphic crocodile who wears a straw hat and uses a toilet plunger as his weapon he would collect crocodiles and explore various platforming levels it has also been rumored that the game was ported to ms-dos the nes and game boy there have been screenshots floating around the internet though the validity is not confirmed of course this could just be an elaborate 4chan ship post i mean look at the name it seems like a dead giveaway don't you think pikmin sentient ai programming during the development of pikmin nintendo experimented with giving each individual pikmin free will they would randomly decide whether to attack an enemy and go where the player wanted them to go or straight up ignore them this idea was first revealed in an interview where shigeru miyamoto told nintendo world we could leave the pikmins to act more freely but if we exaggerated too much the players would start to become frustrated the mario club the official nintendo's testing team said that the e3 version was better because the pikmin followed the orders correctly i said they were confusing better with easier [Music] dead mmo personal server whenever an mmo game loses the support of his developer there will always be dedicated gamers who will continue to participate in their favorite mmos these groups will create emulators which allow access to these unsupported lobbies some notable resurrected mmos include age of empires online star wars galaxies and toontown rewritten one of the more recent prominent released in 1982 by sinclair research it was one of the first mainstream home computers for the uk and used basic a coding language specialized for your ease of use this meant that there could be thousands of custom mid games never seen before in public more likely than not no one will know about these custom games until the creators are willing to publicly show off their projects there could be a box of cassette tapes filled with pet projects from the past have never seen the light of day lately the zx spectrum has been given a revival through the homebrew community some of these homebrew titles even got physical releases on the original cassette tapes now these four final entries don't correlate with any lost or cancelled games the iceberg creator included them as joke entries so i'll just briefly define each one of them reality bending reality bending refers to the study of the internal and external determinants of subjective reality i don't even know what the [ __ ] i just said right now let me be honest uh temporal displacement a temporal displacement or time displacement is a phenomenon that occurs if an object from a time period was misplaced into another time period sort of like a time paradox a temporal displacement could have devastating effects on the timeline if not immediately corrected subliminal imagery subliminal imagery is a visual stimulus that persuades the user's subconscious often inserted into tv commercials and songs subliminal messages can increase the persuasiveness of advertisements or convey an entirely different message most subliminal imagery in games can be found in the form of easter eggs and i'm not sure if they help persuade the player in doing anything maybe playing the game more maybe encouraging exploration to find more of these eggs who knows these messages can also be found in the source code where the developers can insert little inside jokes or long-winded brands about their stressful careers [Music] memetic influence
