time i saw your hands as you raised them and i wouldn't just say welcome we love you we're so glad you could be with us and want to welcome all those who are watching online oh you know i had the privilege of going to orange county this week for a spontaneous wednesday night service and i was amazed at the turnout and the quality of people really they're all leaders that are coming to that campus i want to give a shout out to orange county that's watching online i want to give a shout out to riverside in corona with mark anthony and keisha as they're watching right now they're watching at the same time as the service so it's live and so i wanted to say i know you're out there we love you we miss you and of course downtown los angeles pastor gavin is with us but they had their service last night and so for those who don't know uh one church but four different locations and of course this is the uh the mother or anchor church right here in pasadena where we started in our home as a prayer meeting you know how many know the bible says my house will be a house of prayer for all nations right mark 11 17 and so we started out as a prayer meeting and you know we we invited just 15 people to show up the prayer meeting and 30 people showed up and the next week 65 people jammed into our house and the my wife stopped counting the third week after 72 and we said this is ridiculous we have to find a building immediately and so we scrambled called up one of my friends who has a church in arcadia he's a pastor there and he said well you can't use it on sunday we use it but you could have it on saturday night and i said okay and 300 people showed up and now they were from other churches uh because the spirit of god was falling and revivals breaking out toronto blessing was taking place so i had to tell them the next week look we don't want to sheep still we love the whole church and if you're part of the church there's only one church let me know there's only one holy cat catholic apostolic church when i use the word catholic i'm talking about the universal that means universal church and so we encourage people to go back to the local church unless they were feeling called to build the church with us and the next week we had a gideon's revival we went from 300 down to 170 and that's how harvest rock church began and so we've been having the time of our lives for those who don't know we've planted around a dozen churches just in los angeles from this house a lot of our pastors were sent out but just during the covenant 19 when everyone's locked down and churches are not meeting the lord told us come in the opposite spirit and start planning campuses start planning a set of autonomous churches but to expand and to grow and so it's been an amazing year and how many you know no matter what happens the kingdom of god is going to advance amen no matter what virus or what the economy is or what the circumstances is or who wins the election the kingdom of god is advancing and so we're excited to be part of his church his ecclesia and uh i want to just make two brief announcements if you missed last week's message on sanctity of human life sunday i want to encourage you to go to youtube and hear it because you will get the distilled essence of our major value to see transformation of our society and we believe that the number one justice issue is the abortion issue we shared in a way that there's no condemnation for those who've had an abortion i even share my own personal testimony of my girlfriend having abortion when i was a teenager but but we do feel as believers we need to understand biblically when conception begins and why it is murder to take an innocent life uh there's six things the lord hates heaven which is an abomination hands that shed innocent blood proverbs 6 16. and so what the reason why i'm asking you to watch it is because online you could go to one race for life and sign a pledge and this is really important i asked you to all those who are here you actually received a physical card one raised for life card that's perforated and then you could write a pledge and the pledge is that you will vote life in perpetuity and this is a big deal for us and so we want to start a movement we've done this all over the country already actually the battleground states i went to eight battleground states in september and october and uh so many people signed up and says we will vote life and so it's very important if you were not here last week that you go to our and by the way when you go to uh harvest rock.church and see the youtube please subscribe because that way we just started this uh during again the beginning of covet having a youtube channel and we want to really influence the nations because i believe this is a globally 50 million babies are aborted every year and so we have to put an end to this uh atrocity and you know all of us will say the holocaust was was a major atrocity of light in our history well you're talking about just in america alone 65 million babies have been murdered since 1973 when roe v wade was legalized so anyway this is on my heart and this is one of our major values so we encourage you to sign up and and um go to that website now the last thing i want to just say is that i want to just say that you know we started a ministry last year again it's amazing how new ministries were birthed like one race for life in july august of last year and right before uh 2020 i started a new ministry which is our media ministry and it's called che on ministry but we're really my daughter had a dream joy who's vice president of china administration she had a dream that was changed to che on media and what it is is our television show that's on god tv as well as all the social media that we do is under that umbrella and how many know god's using media to preach the gospel around the world this is our way of reaching the nations and i learned that from billy graham billy graham who passed away in february of 2018 i remember how he was preaching on the internet when he was 99 years old right before he passed away using the internet to get the gospel out to to the world and i thought to myself man i want to be like him when i grow up and so uh we uh we really uh started our media ministry only a few years ago and so um we shared how we need run a hundred thousand dollars by really uh this this year to start our production of the new season of uh equipping the saints uh which is the name of our show and so i encourage you you can still give a pledge people ask me what i wanted for my birthday i said i don't need anything but if you like to sow into cheon ministry i would love for that to take place so you could do that you could just go to harvest rock and scroll down when you do 77977 and you'll see on ministry or he said with him i don't even know i'm i'm so ignorant about these things i really am but uh but anyway i think you'll be able to navigate you guys are smart and sharp and um and so i'm so blown away by the next generation they just blow me away how quickly they they just uh are brilliant you know and god is a gift to this generation i believe that this is the most significant consequential epic generation in the history of the church and it's not hyperbole i believe it because i believe your generation could be seen the second coming of jesus christ now when i say a generation a generation biblically is up to 100 years it could be your children's generation and but the signs are unbelievably clear including israel becoming a nation in 1948 after 2 000 years of disbursement after the destruction of jerusalem 70 a.d and so i'll be talking a bit more about eschatology in the in the days ahead and i'm not saying i we don't know the day or the hour so i'm not saying uh there's certain other signs that still have to be fulfilled and one of them i'm going to talk about uh matthew 24 verse 14 that the gospel has to be preached uh to all nations as a to the whole world as a testimony to all nations verse 14 and then the end will come and we still have our word cut out three billion people have never heard the gospel and so to say he's going to come tomorrow uh i think would be uh misunderstanding scripture but i i'm excited i'm quoting from matthew because i want to talk about the book of matthew and i'm starting a new series and i'm excited about the series because this is going to go into easter and it's knowing jesus the series is called knowing jesus and um and there's so many verses about knowing jesus you know paul who's just the apostle among apostles at the end of his life while he's in prison in philippi says i want to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering philippians 3 10. and he said even though whatever i've gained i counted as rubbish that i might know him everything is rubbish compared to knowing him the surpassing greatness of knowing him and he says that in the same chapter but in verse 8. why why is knowing so important well because here's why there's so many reasons why but let me just give you a number of reasons why the importance of knowing god number one when you know him you become like him god wants you to be conformed into the image of jesus christ in fact the bible says in romans 8 29 he's predestined you to be conformed into the image of his son that you will be the firstborn among many brothers isn't that amazing he wants you to be like jesus but how could you be like him unless you know him that's why the bible says in second corinthians 3 18 as we gaze upon him we're being transformed from glory to glory into the same image so it's so important for you to know him because as you know him and study him you become like him another reason why we need to know him is because he's absolutely our foundation there's no other foundation you can lay than the foundation of jesus christ first corinthians 3. but here's the thing that i want to just emphasize there's a whole lot of shaking going on right now and hebrews the writer of hebrews writes in hebrews chapter 12 everything that can be shaken will be shaken but we have a kingdom that cannot be shaken that's why jesus said in matthew chapter 7 verse 24 he who hears my words and acts upon them by the way you got to be a doer of the word you can't just intellectually know him here but you got to know him here and be a doer of his word would be like a man who builds his house upon the rock that rockless jesus that's how we came up with harvest rock church uh you know when we started our church in our home god called me out to california for a great harvest and we want to build it on the rock jesus it's the rock and so he says there's like a man who built his house upon the rock the rains came the floods came the winds blew but the house stood strong because it was founded on the rock now hag i too i was just on a uh i was doing a teaching for wagner university yesterday uh residential and they had tremendous speakers lined up lisa bevere was on it bill johnson others and by the way wagner university is the seminary birth by peter wagner in 1998 but when he turned 80 he gave me the seminary as my inheritance he was my spiritual father i became the international chancellor i actually told peter you got the wrong person because i'm not into academia i'm not you know i'm an evangelist apostle i'm not a teacher and i could never do what you do and peter said i'm not asking you to do what i i mean he would teach eight hours at fuller seminary nine to five i could never do that but he said i'm gonna ask you to be like me i want you to be apostolic i want you to start these schools and i said that i can do and so we started in china we have around 500 students in the underground church can we thank god for that come on in the midst of communism we have a church where we're training pastors it's become the number one seminary everyone wants to be part of it but we choose you can because of security reasons we have to choose the students it's amazing what's going on anyway wagner by the way has just come into a new season where you it is partnering with an accredited seminary and so as you study some of the top teachers in wagner you get an accredited degree along with a wagner degree can i hear an amen to that come on some of you need to get accreditation in order to i'm talking about you know to get a better job and and uh and i believe in that i'm asian you know anything about asians we believe in higher education in fact that's why peter gave it to me he says you're the only person that's one of my spiritual children that has their own doctrine and so that's why i'm giving you wagner university and i said okay and then cindy prophesied that i was going to oversee cindy jacobs uh wagner and she had no idea the conversation peter actually got mad he thought i had told cindy she probably said i haven't said a word to anyone but anyway god confirmed it and now this seminar is just really taken off and and uh i'm gonna make an apostolic decree right now if you signed up today for wagner university just say papa chay says you get a thousand dollar scholarship as a result but you gotta do it today will you do that if you're interested in really going go ahead and do it and we'll give you a thousand dollars off of your tuition come on that's a thousand dollars you didn't have before so i'm prophesying what jay is saying that this is a year of finances and checks in the mail and uh and blessing and it is haggai 2 7 it says that i will shake all nations and the same verses said i'll bring the wealth of the nation so you look it up and i will fill this house with glory three things in one verse haggai 2 7 there's only two chapters in haggai okay there's a la third to the last book in the old testament i will shake all nations how many know every nation has been shaken by covet we're talking about our time period i will bring the wealth of the nations why is he saying prophesying that god's going to prosper his people in the midst of the shaking because god's going to bring about the greatest revival i'll fill this house with glory and the glory of the latter house verse 8 will be greater than the glory of the former and the reason why we we need finances to fulfill the great commission he's going to bless you you this is the way god is orchestrated from the very beginning abraham the father of our faith gives a tithe to mcchesson who is a type of christ and the blessing follows i'm going to bless you so all the families of the earth will be blessed through you genesis chapter 12 verse 3. he wants to bless you so all families all the peoples of the earth and you know matthew 24 verse 14 i just quoted that this gospel of the kingdom must be preached to the whole world as a testament to all nations then then the end will come in reality because we're right next to the u.s center for world mission almost every people group for the first time have been reached it doesn't mean everyone's saved or heard the gospel i'm talking about people groups ethnic groups and so we're seeing a partial fulfillment of matthew 24 14. now i believe that god wants us to reach the billion muslims that are lost but i know one people group that's been reached because we reached them they had not one testimony not one witness not one church the bun jar monsant people group water people who live on boats in indonesia and we send out a couple i won't give you their name for security reasons because they're in the muslim nation and they started an english school which became a church and revival broke out and they're doing tremendous that people groups now been reached because we intentionally reached a people group or you hear what i'm saying so that is being fulfilled right before our eyes but we still have to reach a billion muslims i believe god desires all to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth and so knowing him i could just talk about knowing him but but the way we want to know him is by going into the greatest revelation about who jesus is which is the gospels he gave us four gospels matthew mark luke and john to reveal jesus to us now there's a lot of things that are in common with the gospels but each gospel is very distinct to give an aspect in the character of christ so for example matthew we're going to see how he's revealed as king the king of kings and he's the messiah mark is to reveal the servant leadership he's a servant and i'm going to get into mark next week so i'm just giving you just a brief overview and the outline by the way i spent 20 hours every week just on the outline this is not an exaggeration uh i spent a lot of time so i can serve you because i've been released from other responsibilities but my job is basically the church and feed the church lead and feed those two things that's all that's it makes it simple for me as i'm getting older so much complexity in life i have to keep it simple i spend time with this outline and the outlines are available for free we don't pass it out because it's just you know we're just going paperless and but but you can go to cheon ministry that website and get the outlines for free all right and to be honest with you it's incentive for you to check out the website and to subscribe etc all right so it's my way of encouraging you to check out ministry hoping that you will support the ministry but also you can get all the messages for free the outline for free and so this outline i'm going to go because there's no way i can cover it there's no way i can cover all this um just even even though i'm just going to cover matthew i mean i had the ambition of just doing matthew mark and luke and john this morning as a way of introduction to knowing jesus but as i started to prepare i said oh my goodness i have enough just on matthew for one message and i still am scratching the service so matthew king jesus and his kingdom mark the servant leader of of of god his humility his servanthood and then we come to the son of man in luke 100 man 100 god is a mystery so he identifies with humanity but he's perfect without sin and then john is his deity we see the revelation that he is god in the beginning was the word the word was with god the word was god john 1 1 right and the word became flesh and tabernacled or dwelt among us in verse 14. so we're going to look at the next four weeks each gospel that's going to reveal jesus to us but what i want is i don't want head knowledge you could pick up a book and get head knowledge there's so many good introductions to the new testament that will share what i'm sharing what i am asking for is revelation that will change your life i'm asking for the spirit of wisdom and revelation and the knowledge of him so as we read this morning's text by the way this is all introduction to the text of my message i told you it's going to be long i want you to stand to your feet we're going to look at the text and it's a very short text because i'm going to go into a lot more when i began to teach but matthew 1 1 just beginning with the first verse first chapter the record of the genealogy of jesus the messiah the son of david the son of abraham and then verse 6 jesus jesse was the father of david the king and i'll explain why those two verses are the texts for this morning father i thank you so much for our people those who are watching online they're so hungry they're so radical lord we thank you that we're not playing church we are the church we're the episode and you've called each one of us to be a king and a priest to transform the world and i pray lord for an apostolic teaching impartation that you've given us apostles prophets evangelist pastors and teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry all of you are saints called to ministry and i pray now that you would download an apostolic impartation come on you're going to receive this by faith receive an apostolic impartation that will transform your life and that will transform your world in jesus mighty name and everyone in agreement said amen and amen all right we're going to talk about the gospel of matthew and matthew writes to the jewish people by the way each one has a different audience we're going to look at mark his audience was the roman empire the romans luke was running to greeks and why did we know that mark was right because mark uses latin roman language through how this gospel to show you that his reach outreach is to the romans like the word praetorium for example there's different words for that but he intentionally uses roman language now john is for everyone and because everyone needs to know that jesus says god amen but here we see he's writing to jewish people why do we know that because he begins with the genealogy of jesus the messiah the son of david the son of abraham he wants to make it absolutely clear that he is the messiah you've been praying for since for them at that time one thousand years because david received the prophecy that out of his lineage will come forth the messiah and so for one thousand years they're praying and finally jesus comes on the scene but the reason why i highlighted verse 6 and jesse the father of david the king because in the genealogy of jesus it's just listed king after king after king but no one has given the title the word title king except for david why because we know that king david was king and of course his son solomon which is in the same genealogy was also king but it doesn't say king solomon it just says king david because what matthew matthew's trying to highlight is that jesus is the one who is fulfilling the prophetic word that nathan gave to king david that out of his lineage will come forth the king but here's the qualitative distinction once he comes forth he will reign forever solomon did not reign forever another all the other kings that came in a physiological way did not reign forever only jesus is reigning forever and ever come on and so this read the prophecy in second samuel chapter 7 verse 12 when your days are completed and you lie down with your fathers i will raise up your descendant after you he will come forth from you i will establish the kingdom and that's why mary is a descendant of it wasn't joseph was also but mary's dna had to be there and she's also a descendant of of king david and verse 13 he will build a house for my name how many know you're that house we're the temple of the holy spirit first corinthians 3 16 and the holy spirit dwells within you tell the person next to you the holy spirit is within you come on i want you to get happy some of you look so depressed you look like you just wearing tight underwear i don't know what happened this morning you don't look too happy out there i know we've gone through a lot of shaking but we have righteousness peace and joy in the holy spirit because the holy spirit dwells within you all right and so he says and this is this is the part i love verse 13 he will build a house for my name i'll establish the throne of his kingdom forever all right please see i italicize forever to emphasize he is ruling right now two thousand years later he is seated and ruling and how many know he was ruling over the elections how many know he was not standing ringing his hands and fighting his who's gonna win i can't believe biden won you know he's not no he is seated he is king he is lord he is sovereign you know i just want to make a comment because there's been so many people saying all these prophets many of them are my friends need to apologize for prophesying that trump's going to win and did they hear from god that trump was going to win i believe they did i i'm not a prophet but i made an apostolic decree that trump would win and so i'm as culpable as all of my friends and i would say in the normal situation when you prophesy or even make a decree it doesn't come to pass you should apologize but in this situation i believe that trump did win but the election was stolen and so human responsibility and human choices come into play is more complex in other words than simply saying you need to apologize for because god would not violate human choice if he interfered then we would have 65 million babies that have been aborted since 73 because he would have tried to save each one of them but one thing when he created us in his image he gave us the power to choose and if people steal the election even though trump i believe did win i mean just sure vote numbers i believe he won but if he if people chooses to steal and i gave a whole message on this on youtube on acts chapter 26 27-28 about how paul the shipwrecked but the purpose of god you know he was on his ship to rome got destroyed through a hurricane but god still worked it out for the good paul still ended up in rome and my my segment to you is romans 8 28 god's a good god god causes all things to work together for good even if devil overplays his hand look if the devil knew he would not have crucified the lord of glory are you hearing what i'm saying but god will cause all things to work together for good to those who love him to those who call to court his purpose how many of you love him how many of you are called according to his purpose god says i'm going to work it out i don't know how i don't have the answer i mean are there certain things that have rose up either just imagine if we didn't prophesy trump was going to win and um and people were prophesying just the opposite he's going to lose if he lost we would just say oh go we go back to business as usual but the fact is is that all of a sudden because there was a disconnect with what was prophesied and what the results were all of a sudden we began to examine the election more closely and all of a sudden with a delay of the results we began to realize oh my goodness there's so much corruption in our government would we even been attended to that would we even look into that if our expectation was not shattered by the theft of this election or hear what i'm saying it's much more complicated and so i just want to appeal to you trust god in the midst of this that the holy spirit he is still the holy spirit and he's the comforter and he's going to comfort you and encourage you the last thing i want you to do is throw in the towel don't get jaded when you have disappointment with things don't don't say forget god forget christianity forget the prophets no we prophesy in part it's it's a mystery it is a mystery but what i want to appeal to you is all the more run closer to jesus love him with all your heart mind soul and strength can i hear an amen all the more you got to run to god instead of run away from him i'm getting ahead of myself but matthew chapter 24 verse 12 says because of the increase of lawlessness the love of many will grow cold it's wrong about the church as we see wickedness instead of just saying well you know where's god look at the problem of evil why do we have so much evil in our society and all that and you just throw in the town run away from god no all the more guard your heart you gotta love him with all your heart mind soul and strength we don't understand everything but i do know he's seated at the right hand of the father he is seated and the kingdom revelation 11 15 the kingdom of this world will become the kingdom of our lord and of his christ and he will reign forever and ever so this is the prophetic word that was given to king david from nathan that you're going to have a descendant who's going to reign forever and how many know he's still reigning forever amen all right so so we see that jesus is the king descendant of a king he's a king and that's why matthew is trying to emphasize this he's not just the messiah the fulfillment of the prayer and by the way talking about fulfillment it is amazing how many times matthew will quote old testament prophecy in fact there are more prophecies in matthew if you combine combine mark luke and john together there's more prophecies than just one book than all the other pro all the other gospels together a hundred and twenty nine times it's i mean there's a lot of verses that matthew quotes or alludes to the old testament in fact the key word is fulfilled that appears 15 times the word fulfilled this is to fulfill what was said by this prophet for example micah 5 2 now christmas time we talked about it o bethlehem even though you're the smallest planet in in judea out of you will come forth a king who existed before time was he's eternal it's prophesying the messiah is going to be born in bethlehem and then you look at matthew chapter 2 when the magis come and they're looking for a king in bethlehem and then all of a sudden matthew says this is to fulfill micah 5 2. it's amazing i love prophecy in the old testament over 300 prophecies about jesus specific prophecies what are the odds that jesus one person will fulfill all of them it doesn't take a phd from cal tech here in pasadena to know that jesus is a fulfillment and that's what matthew's trying to do he's using apologetics to show that he is the messiah by the way i had the most amazing divine appointment right here on this platform a number of years ago we were having a concert la philharmonic california philharmonic with victor vender the the maestro and he called me up and he said um we're having a world-renowned violinist from vienna austria as our guest with our concert coming up this saturday night and we're having a rehearsal and a reception and we'd like to invite you and pastor sue to the reception it'd be friday at 12 o'clock right on the uh let's say they had to cater their table setup was really first class well done and i was in town which was unusual because back then i traveled a lot i still traveled but i was going internationally around 300 000 miles a year and that's a lot of travel but i was in town i said sure i'll be there and so he introduced me to the uh but he warns me he says now he knows i'm a christian he says i want you to know this violin is is an orthodox jew so you know be be sensitive don't win this term you know because he knows me because we open up with the gospel before every concert okay so he knows who i am and so i said yeah you know i didn't say anything actually i just i came to and all of a sudden the lord gives me a prophetic word for him we're just you know at the buffet line getting our food to sit down and the lord gives me a word and the lord said to my heart he's now performing for his own glory but one day he'll perform for the glory of god and so i went up to him and i said i said you know do you believe in god and he says of course i believe in god i'm orthodox jew i said well you know i felt like god just spoke to my heart just now to give you a word it's a prophetic word he didn't understand what i was talking about but but i got his attention and i said right now you're performing for your own glory but one day you're going to perform for the glory of god and that was it i didn't have any other words and so i'm walking away he stops me he says you got to explain to me what that means and and i'm thinking okay and say how long are you in town because i knew i couldn't talk to him right there because he was the star all the orchestra was right there to talk with him there would be no way and so he said well i'm here my brother lives in fairfax he's jewish lives in fairfax and i'm going to be here until wednesday i said what are you doing monday or tuesday i'm free how about having lunch with me and so i took him out to lunch he showed up for the next two hours i shared the gospel from the old testament it's from memory i didn't have my bible with me i didn't have my phone that's why it's so important to memorize scripture by the way and so when i got to micah 5 2 out of bethlehem you see everyone knows that jesus was born in bethlehem when i prophesied he said to me you just convinced me that jesus is my messiah i almost found my chair orthodox jew he gave his life to jesus now this is like in february and i follow up on him by email because he's in vienna i'm just giving him things to read and encouraging him and and then all of a sudden in november uh my son who was the worship director at that time pastor gabe he says dad we want to do something very special christmas because he was preparing for the christmas uh outreach uh presentation and he says we have a we have a virtuoso pianist he's a professor of music at juilliard and um he comes to our church during the christmas break so he's agreed to play but i need a world-class violinist do you know of one i said i do he lives in vienna but you know he said dad we'll fly him out you know we have a budget for him we'll fly him out and give him a love gift if you can get him so i emailed victor and i said to him listen um we're having this christmas production and um we're willing to fly you out we want to get you an honorary he emailed me back the same day it was so quick he said i am so grateful that i've come to know my lord you don't have to fly me out and plus you don't have to give me an honorary and then he said this you couldn't afford my honor even if but i'm coming and i want to serve and sure enough he played the violin as the pianist played and the lord brought that prophetic word to me that one day he'll perform for the glory of god at our christmas right here at harvest church christmas service come on so david receives this word that out of his will come for the king is going to reign forever and ever now here's a way i want to just uh in closing i want to just give you real briefly it's about king jesus but also his kingdom the first time he opens his mouth and preaches is matthew chapter 4 verse 17 repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand first thing that comes out of his mouth repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand what does that mean the kingdom represents the rule and reign of god but also the realm of his blessing he is king he's ruling and reigning that's his kingdom but in his realm it's heaven on earth and he says it's at hand it's coming and will continue to come until i come back second coming so today we have more of his kingdom than we did yesterday or more than 2 000 years ago but we have to realize that and we have to believe god for that and that's why we should expect more healings today than we did yesterday there's no sickness in heaven even now i'm going to do something very spontaneously if you need a healing touch i want you to stand to your feet wherever you are if something's wrong you have bad pain it could be small or big and those who are watching online and i feel strongly for those who are fighting covet 19 watching online because i do know that a few of our worship people are that's why it's kind of sparse because they they're young they're going to recover they're fine but still they couldn't be here so put your hand on your chest make a point of contact because here's what the word says in march 16 we'll get to this and mark you shall lay your hands on the sick and they will recover so why don't you lay your hands on your own body you are anointed the holy spirit dwells within you in fact the same spirit that raised christ from the dead dwells within you and he will give life to your mortal body amen romans 8 and so father repeat after me right so we know the word kingdom appears 70 times just in the four gospels matthew mark luke and john but predominantly it's in matthew because it's about the king and the kingdom by the way the word church only appears two times in the gospel isn't that amazing so many times for the kingdom the word ecclesia church only two times and they're both in matthew the church is not mentioned in mark luke or john and so we see in matthew chapter 16 in matthew 18 of course matthew 16 where jesus said i will build my ecclesia and the gates of hell will not prevail against it verse 18 and then in matthew 18 and talks about discipline uh go to your brother if he said go to him private by the way if we follow matthew 18 in the spirit of galatians 6 go to him gently then we will have no problems in the church no conflict but a lot of times we're gossiping slander we go to everyone but to that person and so we go to them in private and you want your brother or your sister but if they don't listen to you then take another person with you most likely someone in leadership in the church and if they don't listen to you then tell to the church that's where the word ecclesia shows up in matthew 18. the point is that this was written and there's a lot of debates on when this was written matthew was written i believe i have to i have to believe that it was written after 70 18. 70 a.d what happened in 70 80 anyone know destruction of jerusalem exactly destruction of jerusalem and when mark prophesies the destruction of jerusalem i believe is mark 13 but also in matthew 24 the chapters on eschatology matthew 24 25. most likely it was written afterwards because of all the things jesus prophesied he prophesied the destruction of the temple there wouldn't be not one stone that would remain and they wrote that after that happened when it came to pass so the point i want to make is that most of the gospels were written after 70 a.d that's my opinion because there's scholars who would debate that forever and i don't want to waste your time giving you all the different arguments my opinion is that mark was written first because we see matthew quoting mark verbatim as well as lou quoting from mark verbatim whereas i don't see mark quoting other passages from matthew or luke in fact mark doesn't share any of the teachings of jesus there's no sermon on the mound there's no you know the chapters on the eschatology of end times as far as the the teaching part so we see how and this is i'm going to conclude with how matthew is then outlined so that you understand when you read matthew how to read matthew because all the gospels is is it's the gospel story the story they are telling the story of jesus of his life his miracles but in matthew it goes with a rhythm there's first narration or the gospel story and then teaching so in the beginning matthew up to verse chapter 5 verse 1 is his birth his his life you know the magi story by the way they came to see the king he is king and that's why herod freaked out and he got insecure because he was not the authentic king now if i get my two cent in here i believe that we have someone in office who knows that he really didn't get elected and we have an authentic elector again in my opinion now i could be cancelled on youtube after this but it never i don't care i'm just so i'm always going to speak the called the sermon on the mount right so the outline i'm going to give it to you real quick and again you can look at the notes so we i want to just show you the different there are eight significant teachings in between the narration of his life and miracles all right number one the king's law the sermon on the mount you have heard it was said you should not commit adultery which is the ten commandment but i say to whoever even lust after woman has committed adultery his heart his his laws are different it's higher you cannot obey apart from the grace of god can i hear an amen but how many know the love of god has been shut abroad in our hearts the holy spirit he's given us the grace number two the king's parables matthew 13. here we see seven parables of the kingdom number three the king's commission where he commissions the twelve apostles i love matthew chapter 10. it gives you how to reach the loss i've taken that uh i applied matthew chapter 10 even when i went to the battleground state because it says when you go into city look for a man of peace look for someone that is going to welcome you celebrate you i don't want people to tolerate me when i go they're like out of duty yeah okay we'll host you and host your meeting no you don't want to go to a place like that you want to go a place where they want you to come and so when you go to a man leave your blessing and and i love matthew 10 verse 16 because i believe this is a word of the hour for us be wise as serpents and innocent as doves we have to be shrewd as servants wise but innocent all right because we're in the world but not of it and the world is just they hate us they hate the church it's all about look the progressive love is an ideology and not once so much as a religion they're bound their needs and there's only one person we should bend our knees to and that's the king jesus and one day every knee will bow every tongue will confess that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father they talk all it's all just a counterfeit they talk about being woke is a counterfeit for awakening god wants us to be spiritually awake and not woke into you know the revelation that every white person is a racist come on that's not true but it's wokeness of deception from satan who comes to steal kill and destroy anyway so we see matthew 10 and then we go into like another seven chapters of justice miracles and healing and then the king's lesson on forgiveness matthew 18. so in between the story you have his teaching story teaching story teaching eight times and by the way after the teaching of forgiveness i put down the king's great commandment matthew 22 37 and 40. the reason why i want to highlight this i want you to memorize this is short what does that say anyone know matthew 22 37 every jewish person knew because it's from deuteronomy chapter 6 shammai israel you're to love the lord your god with all your heart mind soul and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself i want you to know that i want you to memorize i know the reference to that and then we see the king's rebuke in matthew 23 he rebuked the religious leaders you know what i pick up i pick up there's such a spirit of religion in the church they're all over false prophets but you know what i pick up i pick up a religious spirit towards from them coming towards attacking prophets who i believe sincerely heard from god and they love god i mean these are my friends i could just give you a list of all these prophets who prophesied that trump was going to win and they are who's who of christendom but the people who attack them i look at them and i just said man i just pick up such a religious spirit like the pharisee spirit i'm better than you by bringing out that you're a false prophet or you hear what i'm saying there's arrogance behind it and so jesus deals with that in matthew 23 woe to you scribes and pharisees hypocrites so we've got to guard ourselves from that religious pride that religious spirit that critical spirit they're causing the division are you hear what i'm saying it's just like whatever they're accusing us of being divisive they're the ones who actually is causing division it's the same thing with president biden who's saying i'm praying for unity i want unity and unity and yet he does everything just the opposite speaks out both sides of his mouth he's causing so much division that he wants to attack you know he's talking about that's the church you know he wants to attack the religious extremists who are the religious extremists in america exactly those who are open and meeting in person when they're supposed to be a lock down we're considered religious extremists he's talking about us we're just obeying the constitution and our first amendment rights it's an upside down that's why it says woe to those who call evil good good evil darkness light light darkness and so that's why i'm saying you know matthew 10 16 wants the serpents and it's in that doves as you leave this place let me finish up i went way over my time again i told you i have a lot and so then we come to uh the king's eschatology matthew 24 verse 15 24 and 25. it's all about the end time eschatology means the theology of end times and again there's so much there and there's so much fulfillment taking place of those signs that must take place before jesus christ comes back but the biggest one that has not been fulfilled is that there's still three billion people have not heard the gospel until that happens then i i now he could do that overnight can a nation be born in the day as soon as zion travailed she brought so we could see a whole nation experience revival and awakening and mass revival i mean we saw that with wales within six months everyone was awakened and saved right so god could do it again so i'm not putting a timetable it could be our generation that jesus christ comes back but until then i'm rolling up my sleeves and i'm going to work all of us we have to and i close with then the great commission the king's great commission matthew 28 18 through 20. again this is short and i want you to memorize it all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth the king's authority therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father son the holy spirit teaching them to obey everything i've commanded you and i'm with you always how we know that jesus is with us to the end of the age i'm with you i'll never leave you nor forsake let's all stand up well i hope you have a better appreciation for the book of matthew and as you read matthew and get to know jesus as king and about his kingdom but here's what i want you to do i i i really uh want to encourage you i gave you you know we're in this season of feasting on god's word instead of fasting we decided because we've done a lot of fasting in 2020. i'm talking about we went on so many different food fasts i'm talking about but we decided not to do that in january we said instead let's get into the word and i want to encourage you to go through matthew start reading matthew and i see the rhythm of the narration and teaching the gospel story teaching the miracles teaching and get to know his teaching because it's very unique you won't find uh you know the way he teaches certain things in the other gospels but the question i want to ask and i have to ask this is jesus the king of your life he's not just king of israel we know that he's king over nations and magis were not jewish we came to see the king they came from what is now today iran and they were seeking the king have you made jesus king it's amazing the word lord and king if you added all throughout scripture is almost ten thousand times that appears the word savior only 37 times in the new testament don't you know he is savior but but you notice how they came to say they didn't say can we come and see the savior the manager said we want to come see the king of israel of course when you make him king he becomes your savior but again the question is have you made a king of your life what does that mean it means that he's number one in your life that he owns everything including you and that you're going to do whatever he tells you to do he's lord he's boss because i don't believe you really understand lordship unless you understand obedience i really don't think you can just say all the word right words but if you're not obeying him then he's not your lord he's not your king are you hearing what i'm saying this is reality this is christianity that is the true christianity not a religion and not what's been perpetuated for two thousand years as denominationalism it's obedience so i'm going to ask you and especially we're still in january beginning the new year i'm going to ask you to make a commitment to jesus as your king to obey him all the days of your life i made that commitment 47 years ago when i was a drug addict high school dropout when i got saved at a deep purple concert i made a commitment to live for him and and that was the last time i did drugs never went back he will give you the grace look he will never ask you to do something without giving the power to get the job done he's a just god but you can receive how do you receive the grace well you receive grace when you humble yourself you got to humble yourself he opposes the problem but gives grace to the humble and when you humble yourself and just say i cannot do this on my own strength i've tried i've fallen flat on my face even though i want to give up this addiction this drug this pornography or that issue i fall flat on my face and i need help that's grace that's humility so i want you to pray this prayer with me and i want you to make it sincere even though you'll repeat after me i want it to be your prayer would you pray with me let's all pray this out loud so that we can support those who are making a first time or a quality decision to make jesus king and lord of their life just a heavenly father forgive me for my sense i repent i acknowledge i can't save myself i need your grace so i give you my life i receive your grace by faith and i confess jesus is my king he is my lord and by his grace i will obey him from this day forward in jesus mighty name amen amen let's give the lord a hand now i want to ask you to humble yourself and right now just say if you just prayed that for the first time or a serious first time or rededication i'm going to ask you to humble yourself by raising your hand and let me see who you are thank you thank you hands are going up just all throughout this place now here's what i'm going to ask you to do i'm going to ask you to further humble yourself and come out
