So, Unity HDRP has been out for a while now, and have there been any actual HDRP games?
Book of the Dead is 2 years old.
It seems to me that Unity visuals are good enough, the problem is the core ability of the engine to put out a big, quality, stable product.
I know that in the making of Phoenix Point for example, there were huge problems with Unity which contributed to the game being in the state it was in at launch. If you're going to launch a game with a huge budget that can take advantage of HDRP, wouldn't you be better off with Unreal?
It all comes back to Dogfooding - Unity need to make a AA PC/Console (HDRP) game using nothing but the engine, and a AA mobile (URP) game using nothing but the engine.
This will necessitate reconfiguring their entire product and pricing setup though.
Recently I tried experimenting with HDRP, and its a huge process to get it working, particularly with store assets. By contrast, Unreal just works out of the box and looks great, plus now you get free Quixel assets.
Escape From Tarkov dev team is doing decent job utilizing the engine.
I have a feeling that the full game come out in ~4 years if not more. You know, after stalker people might forget about its existence.
are they going to release this project? anybody knows?
"Complete"
Didn't feel anymore like a complete film than the first version :(
Cool though.
I never used to believe this, but it really is time for Unity to start making its own games. They don't need to look this fancy, just make something small and we will soon see rapid, useful improvements to the engine.
