welcome back to the channel everybody today i wanted to give you guys a review um of my back attachment for my new holland boomer 24 um so i've got a few videos i just want to go through and and do uh some attachment reviews on some of this stuff so the last one i did was the wood chipper uh still got mounted up here got a new pile of stuff that i just chipped up and uh it needs rototilled in so the next one will be the um review on the rototiller so the backhoe is uh is one of the more debatable attachments it's it's one of the more um complicated ones to justify um so this one was 9 500 with the tractor and i can't quite remember i think it added on a hundred hundred and fifty dollars a month to my payment i pay five hundred dollars a month for the tractor uh the backhoe the rototiller the wood chipper um scrape blade box blade um i've got all kinds of attachments i just bought everything straight from the dealer and uh added it onto my loan at the 1.9 interest and i pay 500 a month for everything so um the monthly payment's not bad i mean we all go buy trucks and cars and everything that are 500 a month and and not even think twice about it um so yeah i just basically spent uh money on on everything i could think that i was gonna use so this is a frame mounted backhoe i've had a three-point mounted backhoe before and if possible i wouldn't suggest one i mean i wouldn't uh i wouldn't use one if if i could get away with with having a frame frame mounted system this thing is a lot more stable a lot more sturdy it doesn't it's it's not as easy to tear up unfortunately that's one of the problems with owning anything as you see i've tore up the seat a little bit on here got into that and that's one of the things that sucks about owning um really anything but especially stuff that uh is hard to justify um so that's i haven't even looked at the price but i'll bet that's a at least a 200 seat and then it'll be a few months out it's still usable i haven't replaced it yet but it just sucks tearing stuff up because you can go rent an excavator for 200 for the day but who knows what they would do if you tore up their seat i i'm assuming they would charge your credit card and make you replace it anyways and then also i didn't store this thing properly i think you're supposed to put a block under here i haven't used it in a while um so usually it'll stay level for several months and then eventually it bleeds down and kicks this up but not a big deal i'll come in here and press down with the tractor and uh and put a block under here and try to get this thing loaded it's a little bit difficult to load but but not bad i mean especially compared to uh something like a three point this is a lot easier to load so let me get this loaded up i guess on this review we'll throw in a another attachment which is the quick attach to three point so i've got the quick attach on the front of my tractor i can come pick this thing up and you could see it's uh right now it's i've got the ball hitch so i can move trailers around and that's just so when i need to do things i've got the the uh wood chipper on the back of the tractor right now so i'll put the three point to the quick attach to the three point and i could come move this rototiller out of the way give myself some room to work i'll move my scrape blade out of the way and then i've got the bucket on the other side so i can just use the the normal one to move that stuff so i'll show you how that that works that's another good attachment that was about 300 bucks i also don't use it uh very often at all but when i do need it it's super super useful especially you know the scrape blade stuff isn't that bad to move but i can take this and uh put it up on a shelf put it up on the trailer put it in the back of the truck um because the rototiller is one of the harder attachments to move around so let me get set up and i'll uh i'll start moving some of this stuff around [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] so you don't have to take off your three point to get this back on here but i will have to take off the quick hitch setup and the top link both are pretty easy to take off [Music] so so i come over here before i get hooked up i hook up my hydraulics to the backhoe on this particular tractor you have to switch the pto hydraulics with tobacco hydraulics eventually i'm going to put a three-way valve right underneath the seat for that i think or at least i'm going to experiment with it to get rid of these hydraulic lines and everything down here so three point i'll lower down out of the way it's going to go down under here and just hang down there so now i'll bring the hydraulics up and meet the these pins with this frame here so i'll tilt it forward so the front will be down and then after that i lower all the pressure on and the front will rock right into these pins here and it's actually super simple i'm surprised it works as well as it does it doesn't seem like it would line up um perfectly and you'd have to fiddle with it but it pretty much lines up perfectly every time so let's give it a shot here [Music] so all right so once you click on the rear and pick up the backhoe it rocks forward and you've got these two little tabs that hang down off the frame and those pins go through on each side and that's what secures it a little bit easier to take off than it is to put on it depends on how you store it but it's really not that bad so they they line up pretty good every time okay so now the bat goes on and secure so now the the debate is whether it's worth owning one or just rent one every time every time you want to use one so and excavators are a lot more powerful and uh a lot a lot better for the job these things are on on a tractor this small i've never used one on a bigger tractor but on a tractor this small these things are uh pretty lightweight luckily for me the ground that i live on is pretty easy to dig in so my reason for that is to go rent one you have to have a specific job you have to be doing something so say you're gonna you're gonna dig an irrigation line across the yard so at a certain rate it's gonna be smarter to rent a a trencher if you're going to be doing a big job but say for for instance you just have this it's leaking and you need to dig down you're not going to want to go rent an excavator for something that a shovel can do and you know not and it's not too bad of a job but you have a backhoe here it's not a big deal you're gonna use it so another thing say you have a job pop up at night over the weekend or whatever the back goes here you're not going to want to go rent an excavator so for instance these little uh elm trees right here that grow up so shovel will do it no problem but i could put tobacco on i can go dig up all the little seedlings around the yard if i am sitting around the house and decide i want to go do some work i can go uh go dig some things there's a lot of it's more of a convenience to own and if i'm lucky this thing will last 10 or 15 or 20 years and and the you know 9 500 spread out over that time is not that bad um i've done a few jobs i've dug a thousand feet of irrigation line with this thing which but i did it at night so after work i was coming home dig a little bit and it took me a week or two hour here and an hour there so a trencher was a lot better for that job but i didn't have a day where i could just go rent a trencher get it done get it over with and so i was coming home from work and i would dig a hole start digging a trench a little bit at a time and do that tree stumps i've got a lot of tree stumps i'm gonna dig up i'm taking this tree out right here it's actually a lot taller than that um this is a massive tree i don't know if it's a good idea to try to dig the stump out with this back i know it'll do it i just don't know if it's worth the the time and effort and wear on the equipment um but it depends if it's an hour here an hour there so i can do that tree there which is i mean it's a probably a four foot diameter stump in there um things like fruit trees that one's gonna stay but i've got a dead one here so i can dig the uh the stump out of a fruit tree pretty quickly in about 15 20 minutes i can get that whole thing out of there um fence posts i've dug up fence posts with it so i use it quite a bit and it's it's a hell of a lot better than a shovel is it as good as an excavator no um for 10 grand could you go buy an excavator you can probably buy a cheap excavator but then you have another piece of equipment to haul to maintain and you've got another engine and everything like that i'm a mechanic that's what i do for a living and i don't want to maintain other pieces of equipment excavators are expensive um you know you break them there's a there's a lot that can go wrong with an excavator and it gets pretty expensive so um so far i'm i'm pretty happy with the with the purchase of it a lot of people will say they're not worth having and everything and i guess it depends if you have the spare cash and another hundred dollars a month you gotta remember we're paying two hundred dollars a month for these smartphones these days and five hundred a thousand fifteen 1500 for car payments um 100 bucks for internet so there's a lot of things 100 bucks isn't really that expensive these days if you got it and and i'm a poor boy i mean don't don't get me wrong um i mean uh i'm you know not that great financially but i just find 100 bucks is worth it to have this thing around we're going to build a house i think it'll help a lot during the house process i might still end up renting an excavator for a lot of it but there's just having this thing around is is really nice so um let's see i'll dig a little bit of a hole i'll tear up some of these elm trees and uh and then we'll see i'll dig a trench we'll do a quick little thing on on how far down it can go and how well it digs so let me set up for that and and let's see how we do so there's after a few minutes of digging a little bit more than five a little bit less than 10 minutes um let's see how deep we got it oh so right at about three feet um i think it'll go a little bit deeper i think the tractor might be having a little bit of pressure issues i think the uh it's done it before the regulator uh on the hydraulic side backs off lowers the pressure down quite a bit so um is this as good as as good as an excavator absolutely not um is it useful yeah i dug up my septic tank when when we had to pump it out get it cleaned i dug it up in a few hours buried it back rototilled leveled over it replanted grass i've dug up tree stumps and i run around and dig up all the the dead trees and the elm trees and everything that are growing um i've planted trees with it so uh yeah i plan on using it a little bit during the house build and stuff like that and uh and keeping it around i mean i'm still not positive if it was the best purchase but you know what i own it now and and uh i use it quite a bit so i just ignore the price that i paid for it and and just continue to use it i'll use it until maybe my next opportunity comes about for something else or or i'm i'm done using this machine but i think this machine will be around for a long time so this is also a very small machine compared to you know i think this is like the second smallest tractor that new holland makes um so you get a little bit bigger tractor and the the the backhoes aren't that much more expensive i mean even for a tractor five times the size the backhoe's really not that much more um so and and you don't have to go out and buy a brand new backhoe either there's a lot better deals like i said i paid a lot for this one i went to the dealer put it on a low interest loan and uh and just moved on and um and i pay the payments every month on this thing so you got to decide whether or not this thing's useful for you the only only way i justify having this thing around is for its convenience i can grab it and uh use it on on small jobs just for a little bit just to maintain the property um but yeah for big jobs that you're gonna do long trenches like i said that was only five minutes of digging i could dig across this property um and maybe an hour two and uh and dig a pretty good sized trench to lay down some irrigation pipe or electrical or whatever else i might need in there but um but you could do that in about a quarter of the time with an excavator and about a tenth or twentieth of the time with a with a trencher so so thanks for watching hope you enjoyed that review next i'm going to do a review on the rototiller and uh and then i've actually got a the shipping notice last week on my everything attachments i think it's a 56 inch root rake grapple so a lot of people have been waiting on those and are excited about those so i'll do a good review on that one when i get it in i got to install my wr long three three-point kit i'll do a little bit of a video on that and and show some work with the grapple so stay tuned thanks for watching we'll see you next time [Music]
