welcome to brim tractor [Applause] hey everyone ryan here with brimtractor today we're going to talk about sub compact tractors specifically the new holland work master 25s a lot of times people get an idea about a sub compact and they think it won't really do what they needed to do but there's actually a lot of power packed into a little tractor like this one of the things that i think puts the idea in everyone's head is the size of the tires so that is definitely something to consider if you have a ground clearance issue where you need to climb over large logs or anything that is going to require a lot of ground clearance then you might not want a sub compact tractor but for a lot of other things that you're going to do with your tractor around your house it'll do just fine so as we move forward you'll see the loader of the tractor the first time i needed a tractor was about 15 years ago and i didn't know anything about them i went into the tractor store and i talked to the salesman i said i need a tractor with the scooper thing on the front and the whole time he just kept talking about the loader and i didn't want to seem dumb i didn't know what a loader was finally i just told him i said look i don't need the loader i just need the tractor and the scooper on the front and he smiled and got a good chuckle out of that and um so this is the loader and that you have to have the loader in order to hold the bucket the scooper thing not all loaders are created equal the new holland work master 25s has the highest capacity at full height out of any subcompact tractor out there it's a thousand pounds of full height and they're able to do that they have two hydraulic cylinders here and the way that the tractor is ballasted it works great also this loader um on anything 2021 and newer has the skid steer quick attach bucket so this is what i'm talking about when i say skid steer quick attach so you pull up on that handle up on that handle and then you just start the tractor and back away it's as easy as that now the reason why you would want that is there are several attachments that you can put on the front without taking pins and tools in a big hassle and put on in place of the bucket the main one is going to be the forks you want to lift up a pallet of items or if you want to lift an engine out of a car it gives you more leverage some people even use them to dig trees out however i wouldn't recommend that you can also put an angle snow blade on the front this is really handy if you have a long driveway and you need to plow snow way better than the bucket because the bucket will fill up very very quickly with snow if you've got even six inches whereas the blade pushes it off to the side and makes a nice line down the ditch so that you can get your car out and your wife can get her car out those are the two main things but there's also grapples and snow blowers i mean there's all kinds of things you can put on the front the advantage to having a skid steer quick attach versus you know other types is that it's universal it works on skid steer attachments it works on your neighbors it works on everybody you know different brands of tractors whereas if you have brand specific like sometimes green tractors have their own special mechanism which works okay but you have to go and buy their attachments so that's the advantage to the skid steer quick attach so let's take a look underneath the hood which is metal by the way not plastic so when you open the hood of this tractor one of the first things that you won't see is a regeneration canister and it's not needed in this case because it's just under the 25 horsepower that requires that so that makes it nice one less thing to worry about also everything is easily accessible it's a three cylinder diesel it happens to be made by yanmar and the panels do come off on both sides you know your radiator is back here with a clean out screen if you want to pull that out if you're mowing grass you're going to need to take that out probably every time you mow if it's dry because that will get filled up but it makes it nice that you've got that screen that you can pull out easily got an air cleaner here heavy duty alternator and the coolant overflow reservoir there and yeah simple three-cylinder diesel yanmar since we're talking about the engine everyone always asks where's the dipstick and where's the oil filter so if we look a little closer you'll see that the dipstick is right here and the oil filter is right next to it so let's talk about a couple of standard features on the new holland work master 25s that are optional features with other brands right here we have the toolbox which is standard and it's got this nice little deal here for your screwdrivers and whatnot and then if you buy one from brim you're gonna have all your hardware for your three-point arms that go on when you take your back off and we'll go over that in a little bit also standard on the new hall and workmaster 25s is the uhmw pads right here if you ever put your stabilizers down without these on pavement or cement it won't be real good so we recommend these they're standard you don't have to worry about it let's take a look at the levers and knobs on the left and center section of the operator station the first one you'll notice is a nice big easy to grab handle marked in yellow that is a pto selector you can choose either rear mid and rear or mid pto and the pto stands for power takeoff that is what operates your shaft driven implements if you have any on the back right here is the differential locker and if you're driving along and lose traction you would push down on that with the heel of your foot and that will lock up the rear end giving you twice as much traction this is the mower height adjustment knob and there's numbers on the top that designate how high or low it is set that lines up with that white line right there and there's a lever over on the right side which i'll show you in a second that actually raises and lowers your deck but this knob only allows it to go to the certain height if you don't have a mower deck this serves no purpose right here is the adjustment knob for your three-point hitch if you had a very heavy implement on the back you'd want to run that a little bit tighter you turn it right to go tighter if you didn't have any implement on the back you might as well loosen it up almost all the way sometimes people will not realize why their arms won't come down and what it is is they've got their tension on that knob a little too tight so now we're looking at the levers on the right side of the tractor and they're just really easily marked easy to operate big handles on them there's no mistake and it's good that you can use it or have somebody show you or watch this video because i remember the first time that i bought a tractor and i didn't know anything about it the guy dropped it off and by the time i got my shoes on to go out and get a you know quick little tutorial on it that he was you know dusty trails down the road so anyway this black lever right here is your two wheel drive four wheel drive and you might not be able to see it where you're standing but it says two wheel drive here and it says four wheel drive there so and it also has a little symbol which most brands just have the symbol they don't actually tell you what it does the orange lever here is your gear selector for low neutral or high most the time you're going to be in low if you're you know driving to the mailbox or or going to the neighbor's house uh you know or going a long ways then you can put it in high but most of the time you're going to be in low and you do need to be stopped to do that and the blue handle right there that uh raises and lowers your three-point hitch so it's your hitch control and if you have a mower deck this is also what raises and lowers your mower deck because it's a mechanical lift that uses the hydraulics on that to make that work and then back here you might not be able to see it quite as well but it is a big large diesel fuel cap and that's where the diesel goes and then you got a nice big handle right here to hang on if you need to so now we're going to look at the operator station so on the new hollands we have the twin step hydrostatic drive you'll see my foot there i keep my heel on the ground and i push the left pedal to go forward i push the right pedal to go in reverse when i let off it slows down some models have some brands i guess i should say have a treadle pedal where they have one pedal way up here and then the other one way back here and it's not as user friendly it uh and they also seem to put the break over on the same size so you have to put your foot up and around that and bend your knee in ways that doesn't want to bend to get there this you don't have to do that this is your loader stick right here you pull down it will go up you pull left it will curl you go right and it dumps and you push forward and the loader goes down there's one more function which is float and you go into that and then if you want to grade your driveway by backing up you can put it in the float section not all subcompact tractors have the float section so this is your throttle you can leave it in the turtle position while your idle while you're going to start it and then let it warm up a little bit and then don't be afraid to run these pretty much wide open it's no problem i don't know if you can see it or not but on the dash it says 540 2933 rpms so that means that 2900 rpms is where your pto shaft runs at 540 which is what it's designed for and it will sound like it's you know running pretty hard but that's what it's meant to do and that's the way these are designed right here you have your pto selector and on this one you have to push down and turn it if you do not turn down you'll either break it or it won't work you've got knobs you'll see these knobs throughout and that takes the whole panel off the whole panel comes off in you know less than 30 seconds if you want to maintenance your battery or get to your fuse panel this is electronic cruise control which is better than uh or different than mechanical cruise control it's got a button right here it sets if you're mowing a big field or something like that would be a situation where you would use that you've got your key right here it goes in the center you've also got a nice cover to keep the weather out of there when you're not using your key and to start it you can turn the key to the left and you'll see on the dash you probably won't see it but when you're actually using it you'll see a curly q yellow it indicates a glow plug heater that helps start your engine when it's cold over here you've got your parking brake so i'll walk around the other side and show you that so you need to depress the brake which is on this side not that side which is convenient and also lift up on that and that will set your parking brake over here you have your lights all your hazards your blinkers and whatnot the other thing that you'll see with this platform is that is a big wide clean area free of obstruction free of humps that just gives you a lot more comfort one of the things you'll notice is that everything is just right at your fingertips so the loader stick is up here i don't have to reach around behind me and it also makes it we'll start it up and i'll show you it also makes it very smooth operation so you'll notice that it's just right there i can leave my hand kind of on my leg rest it there and stabilize it more for more accurate bucket work just makes it really easy so make sure you sit on a tractor before you buy it i don't care whether it's this one or a different one uh there's a lot more to the story than just uh you know the the what's on the internet and and what you look at please sit on the tractor this one's very very comfortable so let's talk about tires for a minute these are our four tires another name for that is industrial tires there's also r3 tires that are available that are turf tires those are mainly for mowing lawns about 95 of the subcompact tractors out there have the r4 industrial tires so while we're looking at tires we'll take a closer look and see that this tire has a red valve stem cap on it and at brim tractor that means that it has bio ballast filled in it to give it more weight in the back to balance your loader load out so if we take that red cap off we'll see that fluid shoots out of there not air and that adds more weight they used to use calcium back in the old days we don't do that we use bio ballast it's all natural and it doesn't rest your wheels out so now let's take a look at the back of the tractor where the magic happens one of the first things that you'll want to do to make the magic happen is to turn your seat around so let's talk about the seat for a second it is black in color not yellow and it has this nice little holder here to hold an owner's manual if you have any questions you can find the answer also it has arm rest built in the first step to turning your seat around is to release the lockout knob on the left hand side of your seat step two is to lift up on the gray lever you'll know because it's gray then you go back and the seat goes up then you spin the seat around you keep spinning it around you keep spinning it around and then it locks you hear that click that means it's locked then if you want to securely lock the whole thing in you put that lock on the left hand side of your seat that we unlocked before and then that's a double lock now you're ready to make the magic happen one more thing i forgot to mention about the seat it reclines now what other sub compact tractor priced like this one has black covering that doesn't get dirty and arm rests and reclining seat it's the only one i think so one of the first things you'll notice on the backhoe is the slow moving vehicle sign or it's also called a safety vehicle emblem or as i like to call it the orange triangle now one thing that you definitely don't want to do is leave this on when you're driving down the freeway there's nothing really holding it on there it'll just fly off and hit the car behind you not a good thing new holland puts locks on their stabilizers and their boom and the reason they do that is tractors have open center hydraulics and what that means is is over a period of time maybe a couple of months or something like that the hydraulics will slowly leak down and so if you didn't have that which some manufacturers don't then when you pull the machine out of your shed and go drive through the woods the next thing you know your stabilizers are out like this you hook a tree and you make a really sharp turn that you didn't intend to make so we put the locks on there and you want to take that off on either side and then the lock right here you can see so i'll go ahead and start it up and go over it real quick here so on the new holland you can get on from either side i'm going to get on from this side and i like to lower the stabilizer to give me more access now i'll put the other arm down there's plenty of room up here i'm average height but a little wider than normal which is not that uncommon i guess but if you're large or small i mean i've seen great big six foot whatever guys on here they do great i've seen small petite women they do great as well so it works really well you're gonna love it another thing you'll notice is that the controls on this are not jerky i'm not moving it real fast right now but i have that option it's got a long throw on the sticks which allows you to be more detailed with your movements i jumped on a green one of these a while back and there was a dog sitting right there and i barely touched it like that and it went over like that and just about killed the dog i mean i didn't touch him it didn't hurt the dog there's no animals hurt in this video but that's one nice thing about this particular backhoe is that it's just really smooth and really detailed it's not jerking the whole machine around and i can put it pretty much wherever i want to before we go on to the next video there's four things i'd like you to consider one is don't discount the subcompact tractor series uh the small tires a lot of times makes people think i need a bigger tractor than that but when you look at the next size up in other brands not new holland but other brands have a size with a little bit bigger tires makes it look like a beefier tractor but really it's the same thing which has a higher gear ratio because of the tires and it won't even climb as well as this one well you're really not gaining anything if you look at the specs the loader lift capacity is the same the back goes the same backhoe and all you're getting is something that looks a little bigger for several thousand dollars more so new holland's next step up is significantly larger and that's the workmaster 25 not the 25s and it weighs a lot more the hydraulics are a lot bigger it's got a lot bigger frame and bigger tires for more ground clearance so really the only thing you're gaining in the other brands with the next size up from the subcompact is ground clearance which most of us don't really need the second thing that i'd like you to consider is service after the sale now we think that we're going to buy a new tractor and we're not going to have any problems and you probably won't but sometimes there's adjustments that need to be made and sometimes you may need the service department's help or any department for that matter and uh if you're curious about that you might be surprised if you called around to the various dealers and says hey when can i get my tractor in there and when they tell you 8 to 12 weeks that might be a shock to you you might not even think that that's an option but that's the reality in today's market at many dealerships not brim tractor we're never out that far we recruit the best technicians there are we've had technicians with us for 45 years and because of that we're efficient we're quick we're thorough we get it done so service after the sale think about it it's an important factor the third thing is safety these tractors have four tires for a reason you want to keep all four tires on the ground at all times as soon as one tire comes off the ground that's when things start to go haywire a lot of people that get a sub compact tractor don't have a lot of experience on tractors in general which is fine no problem but you just want to ease your way into it baby steps also when you're looking at a hill don't go directly across the hill sideways up and down and start on slow gradual non-significant hills to begin with ease your way into it and i think sometimes what gets us more than the hills is the dips and the holes in the ground if you think about it there might be a one foot hole that's not very big around so you don't think much of it but your front tractor tire is only about one foot tall that's going to make a huge impact on what your tractor does while you're on it which isn't good so go slow be safe also always wear your seat belt the fourth thing is you have a choice you can do it the hard way or the easy way hey thanks for joining us on this great day at brimtractor in order for us to make more videos like this one we need you to subscribe at the bottom also give us feedback in the comments we appreciate it have a great day
