THE FINALE - Remaking Hit & Run #10

and here we are in our level it is crazy to think that this is going to become The Simpsons hit and run but anyways I've got a huge plan for this first video so let me show you what I want to do [Music] [Music] [Applause] thank you [Music] um what is going on ladies and gentlemen welcome back to remaking the Simpsons hit and run this is going to be the finale of remaking the Simpsons hidden run I'm done I'm done we have other games to remake but this video is going to be more gameplay focused I'm just going to show you actual gameplay from the game because I haven't really shown a lot of pure gameplay I also added this beautiful cinematic to the game and they couldn't do a cinematic like this back in 2003 because it turns out that a RTX 3070 is actually more powerful than a PS2 who would have thought so I was able to add that and I'll check this out I do a seamless transition here into your character as well love how that turned out yeah let me go ahead and show you guys some actual gameplay for the first time right after today's sponsor I wonder who that is so every single mission in this hidden run remake has been powered by my quest and dialogue tool narrative and if you're making a game with Unreal Engine you will not regret trying this tool and here's a little peek at the tutorial I just put up this guide is going to take you from a total beginner with narrative and give you the skills to make any Mission or dialogue you can think of we're going to start with the boring old third person template project enable narrative import some metahumans learn to use the quest and dialogue editors and even record our own facial animations by the end of this tutorial you will know how to make any Quest or dialogue you can dream of so that will be linked below and put simply narrative lits into your solo developers make much more ambitious games by handling all of the quests and dialogue for you and if you want to learn how to make games you can try my make games not been following the series this is not a mod of The Simpsons Hit and Run what I have done is I have remade the entire game from scratch figuring out how the original game was coded and remaking every little detail and feature in Unreal Engine 5. thank you hey Pooh give me a call and I need another bucket of ice cream with mini pies what happened to the ice cream with mini pies your wife bought this morning I probably ate it I don't remember stuff too good [Music] one of the things we did for this video that you would have noticed already is we went through the effort of remaking the family car to be more consistent with Corey lawn style we were still using Billy's model shout out to Billy by the way did a great job with that original model but coryland's just fit better with the Arts so there it is thank you only Lisa left for school without her science project can you get a tour oh do I have to you can drop it off on the way to work and I have to go to work this is the first mission smrt which is a reference to season 3 episode 5 of The Simpsons Homer goes to college which is a great episode of The Simpsons by the way highly recommend watching that and you have to race Skinner to the school check out look at this [Music] I coded the AI using relatively simple rules but in practice they are actually so insane and maniacal it's so funny to see how they behave and this two minute mission is powered by my narrative Quest and dialogue editor which took me three years to make so three years for a two minute long Mission which is pretty crazy and the inside of the elementary school is unfortunately still untextured but fear not because Lisa looks just as terrifying as she did in 2003. system Hey where's the gallbladder when I get hungry it was a big it was modeling clay by the way Dad Mom called she says she needs to talk to you at home before you go to work [Music] so while Homer drives over to Mission 2 I just want to say thank you very much to Corey long she's done basically all of the art in this remake and she came into the Discord about nine months ago and posted just that photo and I saw that and I just knew that I had to hire her to work on this remake like her art is just so incredible and together we've remade a large amount of the game and um and I'm convinced that this remake really wouldn't have been much without her so thank you very much to Corey lawn her Instagram will be below [Music] oh my go talk to Ned Flanders he seems miffed and peeled why me I'm the world's greatest neighbor I even have a mug to that effect all in a day they're homer so many of my possessions have disappeared I called the police to find the culprit call pretty my lawnmower my cooler my lawn chair a family portrait even rides inhaler what kind of sick individual would take this stuff oh no I borrowed all of Flanders stuff quick think of an excuse to get out of here uh excuse me I think I have to go Chuck some corn all right this is my favorite mission of the game pity theft Homer it has the funniest dialogue and obviously I look exactly like Ned Flanders so I have a soft spot for him I just think this mission is a taste of like what the game could have been in a lot of ways the dialogue was so good but I'm curious what your favorite mission is you guys should leave a comment tell me what your favorite mission is work oh yeah uh you remember that cooler I gave you for your birthday well Flanders wants it back now what will last for a toilet almost done yeah oh yes Crystal eggs [Music] now to return this stuff before the cops find my scorpion Farm then where will my scorpions live only one person can help me Lenny the mission you're about to see has two unique vehicles and it has the plow King that you have to buy off Barney and it also has uh Smithers car and so Corey laundry made both of those originally we had just upscaled the old models but they still really didn't look that great and so Corey London did those and she didn't know how to rig and animate them and so my friend Sam came in and did the rigging and animating so it was a real team effort to get those in but I think they came out great thank you can take a beating hey Alma how about a breakfast churro no time tell me where to find Mr Smithers I think I saw him at the Kwik-E-Mart more breakfast churros for Lenny I'm gonna need a car with a little more junk in the trunk if I'm gonna take him out Bernie still has the plow King okay Bernie can I borrow the plow King take what you want sexy leprechaun just don't shoot me with that dart gun oh you do better [Music] oh God I always cringe at that harmer kind of glitches into the camera there is a couple of bugs in this video I think there might be sort of four or five you should see if you can spot them there might be more actually to be fear I'm sure you guys will find them all one of the things I really wish that I had added for that destruction mission is having cars deform when you crash into them and there's definitely the technology to do that but it was just a little bit too much work and our time was a bit of spin elsewhere but yeah we're about to go into the newly remastered area of the map this was the main area that we focused on because it was all about getting the first seven missions of the game ready and this is the zone you do spend quite a lot of time in so we had all this remade I love this Red Barn man I think that came out so good that and all of the new pedestrian vehicles and these signs too I'll have to throw in some of the signs because there's way more that I've left out of the video so I think I'll put those in at the end but this is the blind Big Brother Mission which is such a weird Mission there is no other mission in this game like this one camera oh sexy girls could be watching me on the internet speed cameras you should be smashed I'll destroy you at your power source [Laughter] this mission is a complete mystery I don't think anyone really knows why this Mission made its way into the game but it's really the only Mission I think that you do on foot and my theory is that The Simpsons Hit and Run was originally going to be more on foot focused as well as car focused and then they sort of canned that idea but they left this mission in the game so this was a really weird one to code in because like it didn't match any of the other Mission types it really is its own thing and Corey Lon redid all of this interior gave me some of these art pieces and I decoder and the little elevators and things like that but yeah I think it turned out really good [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] finally I can get some sleep mindless drones return to your ugly families [Music] hey Dan Margie I mean it's m-a-r-g all right the next mission is the first follow mission in the game which is basically just you have to follow the Target and not let them get away or whatever and dude I don't know the story of this game I played this game as a kid I didn't understand what was happening back then and I can safely say that after a whole year remaking this game and studying the missions I still don't really know what the hell any of it's about oh yeah and the first cutscene I had to make was this one it was interesting making the cutscenes because I decided to make them in game which is different from the original where they were pre-rendered in other news local citizens are outraged over the discovery of surveillance cameras throughout the town we go now to City Hall where mayor Quimby is feeling questions from an angry mob these miniature cameras are an outrage spying on a women's dressing rooms bathrooms and locker rooms is unforgivable I think I speak for all springfielders when I say where is the sexy footage and other unexplained news strange black vans have been appearing all over town Marge that black van is spying on us oh homie you're so sexy when you're paranoid [Music] [Music] ah yes the first follow mission out of the game so you have to follow this black van and see who is spying on The Simpsons and a lot of games when you have to follow someone you have to like keep enough of a distance so they don't get suspicious but in The Simpsons Hit and Run you could get as close as you wanted without failing it so I just coded it the exact same as the original if you get too far away from the van you fail the mission and I just spit this little bit up because I mean you've already seen this bit of the map man if you guys could do me a massive favor and just not look at the screen for the next 20 seconds this area of the map I'm so ashamed of this area of the map it somehow looks worse than the 2003 original I don't know what happened there man we just didn't get around to it behind this evil spying is so like him that wrinkled old monkey skeleton way number one we're number one [Music] the next mission is bone storm I love this one it's such a good one it's based on season 7 episode 11 March be not proud that episode first aired a 1995 oh my God but this is a great Mission and you have to smash into the bone storm truck and collect all of the violent bone Storm video games as Marge puts it hello oh I forgot my mission this area here though is pretty much completely redone now we have a new Public Library with working xerox machine we have a new uh new grocery store it's a lot of work done here Mr Burns is spying at everybody we've got to follow him not now Homer a new violent video game has hit the streets and we need to get rid of it before it warps any children with its bloops and bleeps but that game sounds awesome and therefore should be destroyed I guess you can take a beating take a beating [Music] let's see you do better [Music] let's do you do better if only kids would play more video games about sharing but you know I abhor crazy plants well if you'll excuse me I have to go spy on my boss [Music] I just thought I'd show you guys a little bit of a closer look at some of the traffic vehicles that Corey lumry did we were still using the old 2003 ones which was a bit gross so we had them all remade they look great oh hey Alma you look like you're having one of your trademark Adventures danger Mr Burns mini cameras black vans bro good thing I'm drunk stupid drunk oh no he's going to Warren Burns I can't believe I'm racing the same guy twice in one day stay on target stay on target racing to Mr Burns Mansion you can see there's a door that spawns over the power plant so that you can't go that way and that happens in the original game too there's this door that spawns in to stop you uh getting around it there actually is a bug that lets you get around it in the original game but yeah we have to race Smithers and you know one thing I'd love to make better is the AI I think they could definitely go faster and be a little bit harder to beat I wasn't really trying that hard and I still bit Smithers pretty handily there's so much driving in this last mission so it's a perfect time for me to say thank you to a bunch of people thank you to Corey lawn who look the point of remaking a game is that it looks beautiful obviously I can code in new features and stuff like that which is cool too but like obviously it's about the graphics and if you go back to episode three and look at how bad the graphics were she is so responsible for this remake probably more than I am so thank you to Corey long thank you to Sam he was also remaking the Simpsons Hit and Run and he reached out to me and he had figured out how to do some really clutch things he wrote a script that reads the original source code figures out where every coin is and then spawns them into Unreal Engine for me instead of having to place them all on the level like some really clutch stuff that saved like hours of time and thank you to Billy who emailed me a completely remade family car without me even asking for it he just seemed it it must have taken him hours to do I I can't imagine how long it would have taken so thank you to Billy as well and yeah the more I think about it the less I can take credit for the free make it really was a team effort and I've always worked on my own I've always been a solo guy but it's really made me realize the power of working together on stuff how much more you can get done [Music] papers no you're spying at Springfield with your black fans and surveillance cameras black fans some sort of pizza looking soon what they were only pizza man I'm a classified idiot Smith is released
