The Engineers (CELESTIAL CREATORS) Prometheus + Alien Covenant Explored

oh oh hey guys what's happening niad here with film comics explained and today we'll be taking a look at the engineers in the alien prequel films directed by sir ridley scott the engineers also known as pilots after the individual discovered on lv-426 by ripley's crew and aliens were essentially an ancient extraterrestrial species of unknown origin that possess some of the most advanced technology in the entire galaxy especially in the field of space travel and genetic engineering credited with the creation of mankind the engineers are believed to have been beneficial creators who sell the stars terraforming primordial celestial bodies and seeding them with the foundations of biological life as such they're revered as gods by some of the many intelligent species they've created throughout the ages while throughout the alien extended universe they have been known by many names including space jockeys aseans and malachaks the term engineer was first coined by elizabeth shaw and charlie hollyway in the film prometheus due to the life forms being responsible for engineering for human race i should also point out that their scientific name is mundus gubernavi which is latin for universal pilot the engineers are extremely pale hairless humanoids with two massive arms and legs and raised brow and nose bridges compared to humans their pupils are also noticeably in the shape of oblong plus symbols giving them a familiar yet foreign look the enormous beings stand at a height of nine to ten feet and based on what we see in the prequel films they appear to breathe oxygen just like human beings and have been reported as having a lifespan of 150 years they also seem to be extremely strong and resilient given the fact that the last engineer killed peter weyland's team in prometheus by sending them flying across the room from simple punches to increase their strength and resilience further the malakix were outfitted with biomechanical pressure suits that made them practically impervious to gunshot damage at close range for the sake of comparison between the known variant species that exist in the alien universe in the predator fire and stone comic book series which i've covered in the past a physical fight between an experienced predator and an engineer showed the latter to be far stronger with it dominating the fight shrugging off a plasma bolt and heavily wounding the predator causing it to rely on its stealth tactics equipment and the aid of a human to defeat it when it comes to the humanoids on planet four as seen in alien covenant however these beings appear to be more primitive and slightly different in appearance from those the crew the uscss prometheus had encountered on lv223 with eyes more identical to humans and far more variants in body shape than their celestial cousins they were also much shorter compared to the huge muscular physique and height of the engineers seen in prometheus but they did wear the same clothing as the sacrificial engineer featured in the opening of the film suggesting a shared culture between them in prometheus we see the lone engineer mentioned earlier using his body as a vessel for the creation of the human race he essentially sacrifices himself as his people left the empty primordial earth by drinking a biological accelerant that dissolved him and changed his dna to the planet's first microorganisms humanity soon developed after this making the engineers the ancestors of the human race and much of the bio-organic life seen on the planet today as such human dna and engineer dna are virtually identical as is that of the humanoids on planet four which were likely created using the same process a few off-the-cuff comments made by ridley scott who directed the first alien film prometheus and alien covenant suggested the humanoids from planet four were civilians and the ones from lv223 were the militant type this leads me to theorize that while they all belong to the same species many subtypes were made to facilitate their overall goal of creation and exploration with the civilians being utilized for farming and agricultural purposes to feed the masses the militant types to protect them and a possible but yet to be seen scientific variant that were responsible for their technological and genetic engineering prowess this is supported by comments made by the weyland yutani crews in both prometheus and alien covenant with members of the prometheus team mentioning that lv223 was a military installation and members of the covenant team stating that planet 4 had agricultural sites where food was being harvested given this i think that humanity had been created by them by means of a sacrificial engineer exposing themselves to a biological accelerant and that they had hoped for us to become a new subtype with the archaeological findings on the planet earth that were discovered by shaw and holloway it's likely that our direct creators had nurtured and directed our species towards the goal they had in mind for us and the inherent disgust at humanity witnessed by the malachi that attacked the prometheus team could have been motivated by us not respecting their ways traditions customs and hierarchy i also think that our desire to explore create and dominate the galaxy as witnessed with the exploits and eventual reach of the weyland yutani corporation might have been the reason that they decided to destroy us i mean weyland himself becomes a creator of sorts with his development to the david line of androids and seeing humanity which had been created by the engineers for a specific purpose attempt to usurp the place of the engineers as a supreme species of celestial creators might have angered them in the prometheus life and death comic book saga there's also a discussion raised between two of the characters named foster and melville on why the engineers might have hated us when they were responsible for our creation in the first place with melville saying it's all speculation but there's absolutely no possibility of contact or negotiation with the engineers they are hostile on site either they hate all life forms or they have a particular problem with their creations they kill us they kill bugs bugs kill us we fight back against everything we're at the bottom of the food chain why why would something so evidently advanced act with such hostility against its own creations to which foster replies who knows mr melville maybe we're accidents or disappointments though not much is known about the creators it is shown that the engineers have displayed advanced forms of culture that exist within their society such as language visual arts music and clothing the engineers writing system is also strikingly similar to mesopotamian cuneiforms that can be found in the middle east and their hieroglyphs are identical to what is found in egypt mesoamerica and other places on earth adding further credence to the idea that they had nurtured our early developments and culture to mirror their own for me it was interesting to hear ridley scott's take on their culture in the audio commentary of alien covenant where he explained that the large stoneheads inside the citadel on planet four represented the six elders of the entire civilization these were comprised of intellectuals artists and wise men this might suggest that a brainstorming session between these elders led to the formation of the subtypes of the engineers we see today that played a specific role in the overall growth of the space-faring creators a superior species no doubt the hypersleep chambers will impress i trust in the film prometheus we discover that dozens of cargo ships carrying the weaponized black liquid were set to launch for earth to release the pathogen and let it wipe out humanity only to see the engineers somehow lose control of their intended weapons and perish i've extensively covered this pathogen in another video which i'll be leaving a link to below and if you want to have a better understanding of its properties and function i recommend that you check it out now the crew of the uscss prometheus believed that the abandoned planet they explored was an outpost for weapons engineering and development supporting the theory that the engineers created the black liquid that led to the trilobites and other mutations in the film for war and genocidal purposes it was also noted by the crew of the prometheus that the engineers on lv-223 had been dead for around 2000 years this leads me to believe that up until about 2 000 years ago engineers were on good terms with humans but a specific event had occurred which caused them to become hostile towards humanity this explains the cave drawings inviting humanity to track them down so what could have been the event that set them off well i mentioned earlier that humanity had likely strayed from the goals and tasks that have been set for them by their creators but i also mentioned that they were revered by other civilizations they created as gods with the spread of multiple religions on earth 2 000 years ago they began overtaking the then prevailing worship of the engineers this blasphemy could have angered the true gods to the point that they desire to wipe us out old testament style this is supported by a podcast with empire magazine where ridley scott proposed the idea that the engineers periodically visited the planets they'd seeded with life to check on their creations if their creations proved to be a disappointment by either not worshiping them not following the path laid out for them or simply by senselessly destroying themselves and the environment around them the engineers would eradicate the entire species using the pathogen and they would start all over again with regards to their relationship to the aliens we love from the film series of the same name the principal theory of their connection to the xenomorphs that had prevailed up until the release of the prequel films was that the intergalactic creators had actually created them and that the engineers ship an alien was a bomber vessel used by them to fight an ancient war against an unknown foe which is briefly mentioned by scott and his director's commentary for the first alien dvd in the original film we see the cargo hold of the engineer's ship was filled with xenomorph eggs held in stasis beneath the blue electrical mist and in his initial explanation the director stated that the xenomorph x created by the engineers would either be dropped on an enemy planet or the pilots would themselves land on the surface and release them manually sacrificing themselves in the process as the xenomorphs then proceeded to wipe out the entire population this has of course since been pretty much retconned in prometheus and alien covenant with david actually being the creator of the xenomorphs after arriving on planet four david essentially wiped out the entire civilian settlement of humanoids between the year 2094 and 2104 using the black liquid in the same method the engineers had planned on destroying humanity in the remnants of the city the android then began experimenting using the biogenic liquid to create the neo-morphs which i've also covered on this channel and will be leaving the link to below driven by an obsession to create a unique species of his own david tricks the crew of the covenant which landed on the planets and takes over their ship with the plan of creating the xenomorphs it should be noted that he departs planet 4 in the year 2104 with a handful of covenant survivors human embryos and embryos that resembled facehuggers 18 years before the crew of the nostromo featuring ripley would stumble on the xenomorphs on lp426 this also feeds into the thread and theme of creations usurping the place of their creators with the engineers creating us humanity creating the androids and they in turn creating the xenomorphs with each trying to outdo their godly creators and leave their own mark on the universe this means that in the following film which will be set in that gap david will create the xenomorphs as we know them and presumably head to the actual homeworld of the militants and scientific engineers with the hope of releasing his acidic predators on them ori may just give it to them as a gift which seems pretty unlikely the reason i say this is that in order for it to tie back to the original series we need to have an engineership filled with xenomorph x and a space jockey dead in the bridge but i guess we'll see what ridley decides to do with david the engineers and the xenomorphs in the final film of the prequel trilogy i'm of course curious to hear your thoughts and if you have
