The Easiest Way to Island-Hop to Pearl Harbor for the Day | Pearl Harbor & Historical Sites Guide

[Music] we are here on the uss missouri doing a day trip from maui over to pearl harbor with hawaii taurus and we want to show you what it's all about because i gotta say i was skeptical of doing this in a day it's a big day 11 hours out but hey if pearl harbor's on your bucket list this is a great way to do it let's show you around because this has been such a cool day so far hi i'm jordan and i'm erica and this is the hawaii vacation guide [Music] let's go all right it is an early morning we had to wake up before the sun came up drive down here our flight's at 7 50. so it's definitely going to be a long day i'm looking forward to it i hope you are too it's going to be great but hey you're flying to a whole another island to go sightseeing so that's what you should expect at the airport right now luckily it's not too busy in the morning the best part about a day trip is you can pack really light and they book everything for you which is really nice just give them your name you know everything they need but they book your flights for you send you a nice email with the confirmation make sure you got all your questions answered you either fly southwest or hawaiian airlines to oahu that's kind of like the main two carriers for inner island flights both really nice you can't go wrong we're flying southwest and then hawaiian on the way back what a gray low adventure today most people get on southwest early so they can pick their seat and we get on weights i needed my coffee i'm not getting how to play without my coffee especially for a long day [Music] okay made to honolulu what do we do now well that's easy because cousin shaq who's our tour guides told us exactly where to meet him he sends text messages last night so did the company so they are over communicating to us on what to do because we don't feel like we really planned this out we just let them do it all for us yeah we really just rob we're along for the ride what a nice little luxury yeah i know it is nice you don't have to do any planning this time so when you are coming on this trip you get to pack really lightly and you really want to pack lightly because pearl harbor is an active naval base and so bags are not allowed so you can check a backpack there for five dollars but let me show you what we packed today hopefully this is good stuff all right we have a couple hats i brought my jackets because i feel like it's going to be cold sunscreen a water bottle sunglasses and some money and the camera that jordan is currently holding quick stop like everywhere we highly recommend bringing a reusable water bottle so you're not carrying around a bunch of plastic water bottles and chat cousins erica erica and jordan yeah nice to meet you nice to meet you guys there's three more couples in there three more couples all right they already inside all right wait on us last ones you guys i'm chris this is steve this is gloria this is phil okay nicoletta i'm gonna introduce myself okay i'll be your guys tour guides let's drive it for the day okay i'm cousin shaq you can call me cousin shack hey you whenever you guys feel comfortable he works with me so we are going with hawaii tours they do tours across all the islands they have been in business for a very long time dan the owner he is really knows his stuff and makes sure he gives people great experience so if you are interested in in hawaii i think it's in the top three they get 4 000 visitors a day what's really nice about this tour is they book everything for you pearl harbor is free to enter right as a u.s citizen as a visitor from another country it's free to enter but they've started at uss arizona memorial you cry reservations to take the boat over there so that's why we got time there to go all right we've got our tickets for the boat ride over to the uss arizona this is the only thing you have to reserve when you're coming to pearl harbor and we didn't have to do a thing because hawaii tours took care of it for us the reservation only costs a dollar you can do it online but it's nice these guys take care of all that for you so let's go we're always behind our tour group with a tour we just left our bags in the car but backstory is right over there for five dollars for the day but once it goes in back storage you can't get it out building right there okay people are walking in okay that's where you're gonna check in at 9 20. okay usually there's a line outside don't stand on the line they don't have tickets on standby [Music] [Music] do [Music] after the memorial we are going to tour around because there's museums on the property here then there's plaques over i love this place there's so many plaques to read i really enjoy it you learn all about the history not just about pearl harbor the great involvement in the war and what happened [Music] not only do they take care of entry into the uss arizona memorial but this tour also includes all of your entry into the other site so like the uss beaufin the aviation museum and the uss missouri so all of those are covered they're as you can see this one is 20 per person so those fees add up and they are all included with this tour confession time i've been to pearl harbor numerous times but we've never actually done the other museums so i'm really glad the stewards included them sorry henry we're going to scope it out first for you buddy and then we'll bring you here so i can tell you tons of facts and act like i'm really smart henry has been four years old to go here so that's why we didn't bring him i've turned erica into a plaque reader [Music] so those are the bunks those are the torpedoes not a bad way to sleep i don't think i would do that wow wow [Music] oh shower it's really not bad it's kind of like van life submarine life fan life you guys are really missing the audio tour right now it's fascinating [Music] where you going [Music] [Applause] [Music] there are a lot of tour companies to choose from pick your favorite what we like about these guys is a small group and you get shaq all to yourself okay to get to ford island it is an active military base so we have to go through two security checkpoints to get through this is number one they brought it back over here because they believe this is where it belongs [Music] welcome to battleship missouri is where japan surrendered to the allied horses there are three parts of the tour here you got the surrender deck the kamikaze deck and then the bowels that ship down below so let me go give you a little tour of this place this is where the plane hit the ship and this was the only damage that was done to the show [Music] [Music] hard to do youtube on this thing all right welcome to the bridge the mighty mo so right here is where japanese surrendered at under world war ii marking the end of world war ii [Music] do [Music] still got it this is the memorial for the uss oklahoma that turned over on its side during the pearl harbor attack and these are the men who are on it [Music] wow that's something okay i have to ask are we climbing that yes whoa all right okay so this is the original one from world war ii you might see in the pearl harbor movies it's a classic right there look at that beauty oh my gosh oh it's big 260 feet let's start climbing huh oh we should know it's currently right now as of today when we're doing this not open for public tours but it will be really soon so you can always check the aviation museum website to see when it's up and running hey we are very high this is a fun climb it just keeps going on and on you have no fear of hiking over it feels so sturdy you guys did a great job rebuilding it still under construction waiting for the elevator to open up but there's gonna be something to come out and see just a view alone from up here is beautiful take the elevator when they got it open they climb it's sturdy but it's a climb especially in that hawaii heat all right be open hopefully in two to four months permits pending here could stretch you before you go back down and everyone can come out here and see when it's all done [Music] welcome to the pearl harbor aviation museum we're going to all the all the classic sights to see around the city and of course it gives us a lot of great history as we go making it very entertaining now the hawaiian island is also considered the sandwich
