hey friends welcome back to our Channel if you're new here I'm Garrett I'm Melissa and we are the lefferson [Music] today we are in Oahu and we are going to head over to Pearl Harbor to explore and uh learn about history and we have like the people get into like the aviation museum The Submarine Museum maybe I don't know there's like a bunch of different museums we can get into we're gonna figure it out when we get there it might be a full day of History here but we're waiting on our car to pick us up from the beautiful Aulani it's about 7 30 in the morning and right through there is the main lobby UDA birds are flying these are flying it's so beautiful here I've seen Alyssa I that Lazy River about 20 times Alyssa feels like she's missing out I want to meet some characters because down there it's Mickey we're gonna be characters tomorrow eh yeah we have the character breakfast tomorrow yeah and I don't know I really want to meet Olu but I just don't know when he's gonna be here go lose a turtle oh lose the turtle and bite so we saw him but we didn't get to meet him and I'm determined that he's not out very often so my massage therapist from yesterday said that seeing a wild sea turtle is good luck oh look at that well we have good luck because we saw one in Maui it's a misty day here at the visitor center we made yeah we're a little confused can we talked to someone and so we're gonna start off and go over to the both the bowfin which is a submarine that was built post uh Pearl Harbor attack which was actually known I think it was said 40 plus Japanese ships so it's like the Revenge of Pearl Harbor Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum I would assume that's part of it yes so this is the submarine part and this is a ticketed place and actually but if you have the passport to Pearl Harbor it's included and there's also a shuttle to Pearl to Ford Island which will get you to the Missouri and a couple other things babe there's a there's just a submarine hanging out here yeah you you get there's normies standing on it all right so tickets are 22 dollars when you walk up for adults and 13 for kiddos so before we go into the museum she gave us this uh piece of paper which has literally all the stats of this uh submarine which I will gladly read um and understand half of but we're actually going to go out onto the onto the bowfin so we're on the bowfin I was just reading through some of the stats it's 311 feet long it's a long ship um 27 feet wide and uh the crush depth if it makes you feel better is 600 feet so you go 600 feet deep what you got here Garrett so this is a deck Cannon but I don't know of the size of the deck Cannon I could probably find it for you but I was talking to another guy and he was saying that these um move the cannon up and down and then on the other side that would move the cannon left and right oh there's degree markings right here okay they would call like 20 degrees up and they would he would move it up so now we're in the first compartment of our tour and this was the Torpedo Room it uh had space for 16 with six in the tubes and then ten in the racks and actually guys slept in here so they actually have like bed racks that they can sleep in um Alyssa said I'm watch my head but submariners are known to be short people so if you're wondering what the toilet and shower looked like that's about it I don't think I could even I can't even stand upright in that these bulkheads are oh so this is officer's country this is where the officers ate and slept um the forward battery room so there are 126 lead acid batteries weighing each each weighing about 1500 pounds so this is the engine room and there's two identical ones they both have two 16 cylinder diesel engines and I was telling Alyssa that it gets up to a hundred they said it gets up to 120 degrees in here and also probably feels like it feels like 120 degrees in here we were just on the bowfin submarine which Garrett absolutely loved and now we're checking out some Torpedoes that are over here look at how huge these Torpedoes are wow they've got them all lined up over there too we are now about to enter the Pacific Elite Submarine Museum and we've got a little audio tour so we're going to listen to the audio and maybe we'll take you around for just some b-roll and a tour foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] finished with the specific Fleet sub Museum what are your thoughts so far it was really interesting I didn't realize how much of an impact the submarines have which makes sense because going Pacific wise they destroyed a large portion of the ship so the quick response happened from the submarines so many people lost their lives oh my gosh and then the fact that they were working with faulty equipment they were saying the Torpedoes had a 70 failure rate imagine shooting something not sure not with a 30 chance that it might blow up like it's insane and these guys lived there for two months at a time it's just some Mariners are a different breed so we spent [Music] the bowfin and I probably could have spent a little bit longer yeah I mean I would allow probably an hour and a half to two hours to see everything I I wish there was we didn't even read every single day either I really wish I I'd pay for a like an in-depth tour of the bowfin like explaining all the mechanical systems and how it worked like I don't think they have that but that it was cool but Alyssa needs to eat we got food I didn't really eat breakfast we hear and we got some fries and some pulled pork nachos and we're gonna eat so far we've only done the submarine stuff and it's been really fantastic uh we're about to head over to the Arizona and Missouri see what that is all about but over here on the side they have a bunch of the armaments so that is a the command center you can actually crawl up into that is similar either a replica of what is actually on the bowfin over there you can't get into the bowfin Command Center over there but you can hear if you are a military person if you like this kind of stuff this is right up your alley you learn a lot the audio tour that we had in the museum was really neat I think we're about to head over and actually get into the Pearl Harbor part of the actual tour not necessarily the submarine part so we'll take you along there all right so we are officially going into the Pearl Harbor part and we did buy the passport which comes with the Arizona National or the Arizona Memorial audio tour which is literally they gave us a phone that has the stuff on it and you punch in numbers uh regrettably actually going over to the Arizona most likely will only be myself because Alyssa only ordered one ticket uh because she was just in a in a rush and so we might we might try and sweet talk or Ranger to let her go over with me but uh we'll see what happens but this that big line that's the standby line that we get to I get to skip because my wife being awesome got me a ticket thanks honey you're welcome so when you put things into the universe it works out I got in I didn't have to wait in the standby line a very kind park ranger noticed that we had uh we made a mistake we had two tickets on our thing and Alice is able to join me so and honestly this is free quote unquote yeah we put a dollar it's a dollar so I don't think it's much of a of a big thing but he was super kind and it was very nice very nice so we are now very grateful and the holding area it's like Disney and there's going to show a film and Alyssa gets to come with me I don't know if he said there is a thumb dinner I don't know this is a holding area we don't know but I'm coming with so I worked out that's exciting it worked out so you can't carry it back here where cargo shorts if you're a woman to make sure you have shorts with pockets so I did not wear a dress today so that I could have happened similar things that so you have not foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] Museum which is free to anyone who wants to attend and now we're in the attack Gallery which is all about the actual attack of Pearl Harbor foreign [Music] [Music] so we went through the two museums over there which are basically just on the attack of Pearl Harbor we did the USS Arizona Memorial and we also did the they do that they have an audio narrated tour for like all the museums that we just went through and we did a VR experience yeah we also did a virtual reality so it was kind of like a video showing how the attack went but you were wearing a VR headset and you could look around it was pretty nifty it was pretty close that's all included in the passport to Pearl Harbor which is what we purchased the museums are free and so is the USS Arizona but that if you want the narrated tour or the virtual reality that's not included or the Pacific Fleet specific Fleet we showed you this morning is not included and we're also going over to the Missouri yes and the aviation Aviation Museum Alyssa has been a trooper it's 1 30 and she is she is I'm gonna rub your legs so much tonight honey my legs have been hurting I've been like on and off now lashes today so this is definitely Garrett's day but I am holding up I'm holding out and we're gonna continue on this Pearl Harbor experience we got a few collectibles and some Legos and we are now on the shuttle to we're going to the Missouri first then the aviation museum [Music] foreign [Music] not sure I can really communicate the scale of this I mean I'm sure all the people that watch this have been in or around the Navy know that this is chips are big [Music] this is the inside of one of the turrets 16 inch turrets [Music] that could launch things 25 miles [Music] the navigation bridge [Music] [Music] foreign USS Missouri that was cool it's been real I didn't know that they were using it in like modern warfare and they did like a fun little guided tour that was included with the price here it was totally geeking out with the tour guide totally I was I think I I could go on it's so I I need to watch like a documentary about this Garrett's loving his life I will say something I will say if you want to do all of it like if you purchase the passport to Pearl Harbor really we got here at what like maybe 8 30. yeah you should really get here like it's when it opens us yeah it's a legit day it is a full day it's almost what time is it now uh 3 15. 3 15 and the aviation museum closes at five so we need to get there and explore that before it closes I mean this is literally a full day oh I'm sorry honey and I'm about done I'm ready to eat no it's fine it's fine our final stop of this day we've taken the shuttle over there's the shuttle right there yeah over to the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum and Alyssa was like it's nice because they drop you off right at the door so let's go through the door other door because it says use other door and see some planes yes does it look inside the aviation museum pretty cool there are lots of planes in here which makes sense we've got a little audio guy that talks about each plane very cool foreign [Music] foreign it is the next day we are no longer at Pearl Harbor and it's like one o'clock in the afternoon we forgot that we didn't close out of this Vlog we got back last night what did we do when we got back we we laid down for a little bit because our legs yeah we ate at off the hook here oh yeah we took it to go we took it to go it was pretty good um sorry we didn't film any of that we were so tired by the time we were worn out we were like no we're not filming for the rest of the night so a word about Pearl Harbor is it it is an entire day but the nice thing is is that you're inside and outside they have food options what was your favorite part um I think the submarine was really the bowfin the bowfin was really really stinking cool I feel like you were really geeking out in the hangar what is it hanger 97 hangar or 67 the aviation museum yeah well they had a B-17 which is uh the Flying Fortress from World War II which my grandfather actually worked on when he was stationed overseas so it was kind of cool to see the the model of playing that my grandfather actually worked on yeah in person so I will say I was a little underwhelmed by the aviation museum I feel like there should have been more I mean if you just pay for that it's 25 a person so unless if you're like super into planes I was a little like underwhelmed by what they had I mean it was cool to see it in person and you got to go like right up to the a lot of the planes and they had some really cool helicopters and you don't get to see helicopters up close too often you couldn't go into them obviously but if you're an aviation geek like it's pretty darn cool and I will say if you just want to see like the stuff on the Pearl Harbor attack then you don't even have to pay for the passport no I would I would recommend paying maybe for the audio tour because you had that narrated audio tour which you can get right at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Museum quick tip bring your own headphones like yeah because the ones they provide every device you just plug into um so literally just grab a pair of air pods or whatever you have comfy pair yeah I almost I almost thought about bringing them yeah but uh can you bring your air pads did they not airpods they have to be plug-inable plugged in yeah yes it really gave a lot of background information and it was really good because it was like look to the wall to your left and like there was a pictures and it was really well done Jamie Lee Curtis uh narrated most of it and I will also provide another tip about the USS Arizona if you want to go out to see the us as Arizona I believe they sell certain tickets so many weeks beforehand and I will look that up and put it right here I missed that time but at three o'clock the day before you go Hawaii Standard time they they release 60 more tickets for like each time frame and they sell out in seconds in seconds I had made a mistake I added only Garrett and then I tried literally seconds after that I tried to add another person and they were already sold out thankfully the kind rager let me in so I was still able to go but the standby line was very very long like if you are going during a busy time that you were probably waiting an hour and a half have two hours to get on we never saw the movie for the USS Arizona we saw it I mean we saw so much information uh it's definitely information overlay it is information overload and some of it did kind of start to become uh redundant-ish yeah but it was they had a really good one thing that I said to Alyssa was like I wonder what the political forces were that led to this because this was a big deal and they have a whole thing leading up to it so if you are interested in not only the attack but the back end of it check it out it was really well done you're really into the history and you and if you want to learn about the Pacific Fleet oh yeah if you want to go on the Missouri like if all that interests you then the passport to Pearl Harbor is probably the best option we paid I think 95 a person and and we we only did probably a quarter of the Missouri we didn't actually go down we didn't go down we ran out of time yeah we ran out of time so if you're going to try to do the passport and do the full day like like get there at 7am to the memorial because it opens at 7am get that out of the way and also don't rush take your time like it it and but it's cool and things close down at five I mean everything pretty much closes at five the Missouri closed at four so it's like and they had to get there early and they had a shuttle that took you from the uh Pearl Harbor Side over to Ford Island which is an active military base uh so that was really nice and something else to mention if you just wanted to go to the Missouri to see it and you don't want to go on the Missouri they didn't check our tickets until we were actually getting onto the Missouri so if you wanted to just go like take the shuttle out there just to go and see it like from afar I would assume you could just do that and you could still go to the gift shop and they had like shave ice and food and stuff and they had a free quote-unquote 35 minute tour with a tour guide and our guy was like soup he knew that I was geeking out and it was like a private tour with Gary basically I felt bad for the other people on it because he was just talking to me and I was just like oh yeah I was eating it up sorry but overall it was a really cool day it was very informational and I and thank you to Alyssa for and and for putting up with that I guess you could say that was definitely my day and she she was a trooper and I really appreciate it it's okay it was fine it was Garrett's historical day and it was cool you've got to do it when you come to Oahu it's like why not so yeah so that's it for it so if you have any questions about um that day what we saw you know please leave them down below um if you are just now finding us because you're trying to find plan your trip to Oahu and Pearl Harbor hello and uh hopefully you would stick around for a little bit but yeah anything else with Pearl Harbor I think that's it it thank you guys so much for watching if you enjoyed give it a thumbs up of course leave a comment down below with any questions and we will see you guys real soon bye guys see you later
