the year is 2002. not right now i mean in the story and we're on a boat in the middle of the caribbean sea somewhere around mexico and on this boat were three men scott siemens lyndon hansen and george bodebecker jr now these three were best buds and were brought together at the university of colorado and they weren't middle-aged men by the way that would be really weird i just couldn't find any photos of them from university but the three of them shared a love for sailing hey i guess you could say scott really was a sea man which takes us back to the boat during this outing in the middle of the caribbean scott was rocking a boating shoe that was made by a canadian business that he was working with at the time but it wasn't just any boating shoe it was a comfortable foam boating shoe with holes that could float and scott developed a strap on the back so that it couldn't fall off a true feat of design scott excitedly showed the footwear off to lyndon and george they paused took it in and proclaimed that is ugly as [ __ ] scott you stupid idiot dimwit loser and it's here that scott looked them dead in the eyes and replied i know but they sure are awesome well he actually said that they had a lot of utility but that sounds wack anyway skipped forward a couple of days and he'd won george and linden over they were hooked rocking the shoe almost everywhere in fact they loved them so much they wanted to make a company around them so they headed back to miami bought a garage and lived on a boat to save money now that canadian company that produced the boating shoe that scott was wearing was phone creations the three went yep will be having that thank you very much and acquired the rights to their manufacturing process and developed cross-life foam technology they pumped out 200 pairs of the shoe and headed to the fort lauderdale boating show it is that time of year again the greatest boat show in the world their booth was swarmed and they pretty much sold every single pair they had produced it was here that the three knew they had something and just two years later in 2004 they ended up buying out phone creations and it was that boating shoe that cross-like technology that became crocs obviously named after the crocodile for their versatility on landing in water it was the colorful clog we all know so well the shoe sword everyone wanted a pair and crocs delivered you had a pair your mum had a pair your pets had a pair probably what the dog doing i know i had a pair they matched the colour of my nintendo dsi 24 000 net profit in 2002 soaring distribution network but the main objective make the croc stylish again and what they did to achieve this was genius but more on that later most importantly they took their iconic clock design and rolled with that [ __ ] i mean skip forward to today classic croc clog croc sandal croc flip-flops croc boots platform croc croc wedges croc socks you want customization oh boy we got customization up the wazoo 25 base colours well they're a bit plain aren't they tie dye tie dye tie dye clouds animal print fur camouflage when you want to hide your crocs in the wilderness fruit more fruit flowers interest now all jokes aside how did crocs actually get here from a bright colorful rubber-like shoe that was trendy in the mid-2000s even crocs themselves realized it was only a matter of time before it became a fad and when 2008 hit crocs knew that to make a comeback they had to work smart they targeted who mattered most the gen zeus the people that grew up with crocs as a kid as much as we like it the youth influence what's relevant and crocs knew that targeting teens allowed them to bend the market to their will to make that classic clog relevant to those teen girls influence a lot of people they influence parents they influence siblings they use social media influence people and they bring more people to the brand as well as going after what they like collaborating with hypebeast fashion brands like valenciaga or huge music artists and celebrities to develop exclusives made crocs desirable i mean some of these crocs collabs self almost triple on resell websites like stockx it's not hard to see that fashion is being pushed to its limits clothing and footwear becomes weirder and weirder each year and crocs rode this wave adapting to the fashion trends the bizarre and outlandish design is what's relevant right now people like to stand out and be different and what's better than a base design that's unironically comfortable to wear and allows colour and design to look however you like i mean there isn't many shoes out there that have this much customization available well crotch's master plan worked they're back and more relevant than ever dominating news headlines grossing 1.38 billion dollars in 2020. well pat on the back crocs yeah you did a good job guys i commend you i really do but this bought on one final challenge with the hype of crocs riding high they influenced the most important person of all me i am the fashion god i wanted a pair of crocs i fell into that goddamn net they cast out for kids that grew up with crocs i gave in i wanted the dsi crop combo v point two i mean they're rad of course i wanted a pair why wouldn't i put that strap in relax mode and you're the talk of the town now i've heard some slander out there apparently there are individuals on this planet that say that these masterpieces are ugly we've called these shoes ugly for years the [ __ ] is the point of croc i don't like crocs cracks are just ugly these shoes are not nice to look at at all sure everyone's entitled to an opinion but if i ever hear you refer to crocs as ugly around me i will look deep into your soul like scot on that boat all those years back then jump two jibbets into your eye sockets and walk away with pride with my crocs in sports mode of course so i can make a hasty get away because you get chased if you ever say crocs are ugly you ain't fooling anyone we all know you can't pull them off so what was so hard if i want a pair of crocs i simply head online type crocs into google and purchase some but it wasn't that simple i mean how the [ __ ] am i supposed to choose what crocs you choose speaks volumes thousands of designs decals terrains what do i do i was deep on the croc crusade i wasn't spoiled for choice i was tortured by it i posted a tweet asked in the discord great suggestions by the way but this only made it harder i cried in a corner slept on it all of these designs swirling around my mind which one i choose art thou crocks what clogged do i summon but finally i decided i crafted the perfect croc the magnum opus of all crocs hours of work what did i choose well i got them in yellow um lemon shade to be precise and i didn't buy any gibbets because they were like 15 pound a pack and i'm and i'm not a maniac okay fine i cracked under the pressure and went for one of the base colours but they're damn comfortable that's for sure let me off so in conclusion are crocs the best footwear known to man who knows maybe all i know is that crocs have created something truly unique and managing to stay relevant for all these years is actually commendable maybe my simple crocs purchase was just a koi first step into the infinite pool of crop possibilities a croc is an opportunity yours to choose
