most tragically underrated characters in the show we are privy to his deep-rooted war wounds resulting in some really strange behavior but despite this and a controlling mother his big heart and purity is the shining light at not only springfield elementary but the entire show too so let's not waste any more time as this is the complete seymour skinner timeline principal skinner up yours origins agnes skinner showed her strength and defiance even during pregnancy competing as a pole vaulting athlete in the 1952 summer olympics in helsinki however little seymour ruined any chances of her getting gold with an unfortunate kick right in the womb yeah she lost her medal but she did win a lifelong hatred for her son even before being born yes that involuntary pre-conscious reflex i made in utero was unforgivable seymour's father was named sheldon skinner a radio operator in world war ii and a member of the flying hellfish unit with abe simpson and it seems the apple didn't fall far from the tree as much like his son sheldon was the butt of all jokes well i didn't join the service to make friends skinner's parents met while on leave from the korean war and so led onto the creation of our little principal but we do see sheldon later on during an old krusty the clown stand-up show and again sat next to a young seymour in the town meeting flashback unfortunately he did die off screen in 1979 during a parade float accident something most likely caused by the naughty mr burns so he could get his claws on the flying hellfish fortune his early death may have led to seymour latching onto the approval of parental figures one example being superintendent charmers there to create the school's performance but sometimes skinner put way too much effort into impressing him superintendent chalmers welcome hello seymour it may also stand to reason how agnes is so overprotective over her son so much so she controls every aspect in his life you can push your crib into mommy's room tonight it's not a crib it's a cot in the episode brother from the same planet we see that the skinners live in a big looming house facing springfield elementary mother that sailor suit doesn't fit anymore i think we should go and taking a deeper look into the house here it actually resembles the house in alfred hitchcock's 1960 masterpiece psycho with norman bates as the lead he's a psychopath under the control of his despotic mother also like norman skinner's dad sheldon died when the boy was very very young so it all sounds very familiar doesn't it skinner in his 20s and the army life as soon as he was old enough he joined the army most likely to get away from his overbearing mother he served in the vietnam war and very quickly climbed the ranks into sergeant and while in nam he would be captured and put in a pow camp for three years being in prison maybe furthered seymour's passion for following strict rules as when his team attempts to escape they were quickly eaten by an elephant that elephant ate my entire platoon and like many veterans seymour had deep-rooted ptsd but seymour's biggest regret in vietnam was eating a cupcake that was meant for officers only so despite his mild mannered appearance skinner is an ass kicking green beret that you just don't want to mess with copyright expired armin tamzarian the imposter now there is something quite special about seymour skinner he has an alternate life in the infamous second episode of the ninth season the principal and the pauper seymour's entire life is revealed as a lie i'm an imposter this unfortunately came to light on his 20th anniversary as a principal when the real seymour skinner crashed the event and although most of the town would have probably believed the fake but beloved skinner he confesses his true identity as armin tamzarian that man is the real seymour skinner young armin was an orphan and petty criminal from capital city joining the army to avoid jail for his wrongdoings during his service in vietnam armin met sergeant seymour skinner a brilliant guy from the small city of springfield who dreamt of returning home to become a principal in the local elementary school when sergeant skinner was presumed dead in action armin went to springfield to deliver the sad news to his family while upon knocking agnes mistook armin for seymour and he didn't have the heart to correct her although it looked as though she really didn't know the truth she chose to believe the lie upstairs third door on the left meanwhile back in vietnam sergeant skinner was imprisoned in a pow camp for five years and then spent a further 20 years in a chinese sweatshop finally when the sweatshop was shut down the real seymour could return home only to find that armin had taken his place after this shocking reveal armin breaks up with his life in springfield and comes back to his old life in capital city the ex-principal was dearly missed by everyone especially edna his lover and agnes his mother now there was a weenie you could be proud to call your son after a horrible few weeks the simpsons family and everyone along with mum and edna decides to go to capital city and return arm into his rightful place now you'll march yourself downstairs and get in that car yes mother and the rest of you too and so homer uses his irresistible charm on quimby and judge schneider as they pronounce armin to be the one and only seymour skinner and so leaving poor sergeant skinner unhappy and banished from springfield and everybody at least in springfield ends up happy however despite this fascinating underlay of one of the most predictable characters in the show the armentamzerian version of skinner is considered non-canon by many fans it's even listed in the non-canon section of simpson's wiki and the writers always considered this to be a contained episode outside of the show's main continuity voice actor harry shearer absolutely hated this reveal as did the simpsons creator himself matt grayning who went as far as calling the entire episode a mistake aside from one reference to armin later on principal the show mostly ignored this episode i went into the army sema became a principal in springfield elementary and he was a pretty cool dude at first he was all about the kids and using unorthodox methods to teach them like ping pong to learn angles but this young brightheart principal in his thirties was crushed by the ultimate prank performed by andy hamilton the nine-year-old filled the pool with worms and locked skinner inside for a whole weekend plus a monday after this traumatic incident skinner was never the same again and according to willy he became a monster we all know but don't just think that skinner just sits around getting his cameos drawn he has a social life too he also joined the barbershop quartet the b sharps where he was known as the funny one is that reputation justified yes yes it is the band was so popular they were catapulted into stardom and were bigger than jesus well according to the title of their second album anyway but despite their popularity the band fell apart due to inviting and so seymour turns the life of a principal as well as being a talented musician and an educator it's no surprise that skinner is really intelligent with an iq of 131. he is also a member of mensah the most prestigious club of intellectuals in springfield together with lisa and the other springfield mensah members sema became a political type leader of springfield ruling the town with their wits unfortunately this honorable mission failed horribly since everyone in the group including seymour was far too selfish and arrogant but one thing seymour wasn't selfish about was his love for his school since he's a principal of a regular state education facility he really has to scrape for money just to keep it open as such he will steal school supplies and even fake classes for extra funding all in order to save his severely underfunded school after andy hamilton and his worms the biggest pain in principal skinner's big butt is bartholomew jojo simpson this spiky hair little hoodlum has performed countless pranks on the principal throughout the years [Music] and even against the most hardcore springfieldian bart is one brutal kid so much so he even managed to get rid of skinner in sweet seymour skinner's badass song when bart's dog santa's little helper escapes during a show-and-tell it creates a whole lot of mess causing superintendent charmers to finally fire the principal did you just call me a liar no i said you were fired oh with seymour gone as principal bart realizes that he really misses his former enemy and the two form a sweet bond outside of school and although bart values their new friendship he misses him more as a nemesis i miss him as a friend but i miss him even more as an enemy but thankfully after skinner returns to the school they become the principal and the prankster once more his other long-term frenemy on the show is superintendent chalmers yes superintendent chalmers despite seymour's numerous attempts to please him chalmers is always dissatisfied with skinner's management style and manners it's obvious that skinner is terrified of charmers and he wants nothing better than to be friends i mean who can forget skinner's unforgettable luncheon it went terribly wrong resulting in a massive fire in the skinner's kitchen and a massive meme too well seymour you are an odd fellow but i must say you steam a good ham annoyingly superintendent chalmers just doesn't respect skinner at all even breaking bro code by dating seymour's mother seymour mother superintendent chalmers skinner after kissing chalmers keister for years skinner finally stuck up for himself when he learned that the superintendent chalmers was planning on firing him for years this man belittled me humiliated me fed up of being pushed around for so many years he launched himself at chalmers and the two traded blows when their tempers called the two made amends chalmers finally admitted that despite giving him a hard time he actually does like skinner oh god help me i respect seymour skinner in fact i like him but with the school resting firmly on his shoulders a soul-crushing mother and ptsd skinner still has time and some willpower to find him some love skinners in love skinner's first romance on the show was with patty bouvier brought together by homer even though he was supposed to be a blind date for selma marvelous just marvelous but as it turns out he liked patty a whole lot more he was absolutely smitten with the bouvier twin even to the point of marriage but patty couldn't leave her sister alone refusing skinner's proposal and as a gentleman would he was hugely respectful of her decision after this sema begins a tragic but touching love story with divorced 4th grade teacher edna krabappel their romance blossomed at martin prince's birthday party during a casual conversation where they learn things about each other that didn't involve chalkboard and history books and so these two lonely souls play tonto tennis in martin's play house but the path of true love never doth run smooth as they're afraid of facing a firing for their romance from the school their secret relationship was soon exposed when they were discovered making babies then i saw one of the babies and the baby looked at me even bart simpson skinner's biggest enemy made every effort to save the couple in the end skinner saved the day by announcing a huge revelation i am a virgin this convinces everyone that nothing happened between the pair and so seymour and edna remain together edna demonstrated to be a very special woman and a great companion for seymour her bubbly nature with a dash of adventurism complemented shy and uptight skinner she unveiled his softer side opening up his ability to love someone in a healthy way both physically and mentally not allowing himself to be controlled like in other relationships in his life i told you not to play in the neighbor's yard it's a party mother i was invited sadly seymour was blind to the benefits of this pairing due to outrageous demands by his mother you've got to stop putting your mother ahead of me we have a date and without edna's constant attempts to push their romance forward the couple's relationship would never progress onto the next step after dragging his feet long enough seymour eventually popped the question and it looked like the pair were finally going to be happy but skinner self-sabotaged his own happiness by constantly doubting their relationship his cold feet caused edna to call off the wedding i can't marry someone who doesn't want to be with me now personally i don't think that seymour was afraid to marry edna specifically his fear of commitment was caused by his mother's issues seymour your feelings are ugly and wrong so seymour subconsciously thought that marrying edna would not allow him his long-awaited freedom and instead replace his mum with another controlling tyrant unfortunately seymour overlooked that although edna is a strong woman she is of a free-spirited nature and wouldn't have choked him emotionally and it is clear that edna really did love seymour deeply but she deserved to be loved too edna would later go on to marry ned flanders before passing away off-screen and so seymour quite possibly lost his biggest chance of happiness the last romance skinner had after edna was with a substitute teacher named calliope juniper she was a cool girl he double dated with bard and her daughter melody but but being bob breaks up with melody and so the juniper girls decide to leave springfield and seymour follows them too after a three-month absence he returns home without any explanation so we can only assume that this relationship crashed too perhaps this could have been the freedom he felt he lacked but he always craved order and responsibility of being a principal and a dear devoted son age 50 to 70. throughout the years seymour did find a little courage in himself and on barton lisa's mutual graduation he finally speaks out against bart you really press my cider [Music] however this alternative future was only seen on professor frank's huge monitor and seeing as edna is still alive in this bit in this timeline it could be all just a fantasy overall i feel that skinner's biggest love of his life will always be his job as a principal of springfield elementary he continues his career as long as he can and never leaves the building even after its change to the lofts at springfield elementary and accommodation for layabouts like bart simpson what skinner couldn't shake unfortunately is his problematic relationship with his mother in days of future future we observe how skinner is still attached to agnes even after she rots away into a skeleton aged 119 and the death of seymour skinner it seems that an 80 year old bar still hasn't had his fix of bullying the poor old principal even if he's bound to a wheelchair in one final prank he paints the sky with fireworks reading skinner sucks this one last prank kills our principal for good condemning him to a severe heart attack but the last love actually stays with seymour because his corpse runs over bar and kills him almost instantly thus ending three-quarters of a century rivalry and the life of these two awesome characters seymour skinner is one of the most tragically underrated characters in the simpsons even though his life was scarred by war and a not so loving mother seymour was still capable of finding love and even though at times he may have been seen as the laughing stock of the school and the town we cannot deny he played a huge role in the life of springfield and the characters that live in it and finally i'd like to thank my flying hellfish members we have timothy one drama boys steve charlie
