good evening everyone welcome to church home welcome to church home we're so glad that you're here hey if there's anything we can do for you our community we exist to walk with each other on extraordinary days and ordinary days and good days and bad days and out in the lobby there is a next step bar and there's gonna be some friendly people there who who would love to help in any way that they can for those of you that are here guests first time I'm Judah I've been married to Chelsea Smith for 19 years we got three kids and this is church home we we're a community that has gatherings in Seattle on Sunday in LA on Wednesdays and and also we have a technology platform an app that's making community available to people all over the world I just found out about an amazing young lady who has three small groups in London that are now a part of Church home and using using the content and people are passionate about serving London and walking with Jesus and spreading the love so that's pretty awesome for those that don't know we are jumping in here in the six week journey and this is week five it's a journey we go on for six weeks studying a portion of Scripture we have groups all over getting together to discuss the content to discuss what it looks like to trust Jesus and have faith in Jesus and again our topic of investigation is faith what does it look like to have faith what is faith what does it mean to live a life of faith and so if this is your first time at church home can I just say real quick you're gonna find out I'm a Jesus guy and one of those guys I believe Jesus is the savior of the world I believe he's the only one that can forgive me of my sins I'm in love with him he's changed my worldview he's changed my eternal destination he's she's really affected everything and I really really love them so that's gonna be pretty apparent over the next few minutes but that does not mean that you have to believe what I believe Church home is not built on everyone has to believe the same thing now I'm passionate and I'm very much have a desire that you would meet Jesus has changed my life but you are welcome here and you belong here no matter what you believe because we got far more in common than we don't we are all human beings living in the same part of the world at the same time trying to figure this thing out and we need each other and if you're single shout amen hebrews chapter 11 is the portion of scripture we've been looking at the more to do we're going to take a character from hebrews chapter 11 in his name is david he's arguably the most well known Old Testament character and we're gonna do an investigation that I'm I'm really excited about but let me give you just a brief context of this ancient letter that we're investigating it's called Hebrews it was written to first century Hebrews who Jewish people who had accepted Jesus as their Messiah forgive me if this is somewhat redundant upon receiving this letter they are experiencing extraordinary persecution in fact there has been executions there they are avoided in the marketplace all those who claim the name of Jesus have been identified and are now avoided are spoken against things are being done to neighbors and friends and community members and these first century Jewish believers are starting to wonder is it worth it is it worth it is it worth it to follow Jesus and so they received this letter and this letter essentially can be summed up with this whole idea that hey you've experienced the true God you've experienced real life and forgiveness and no matter what the cost it is worth it there's nothing back there let's keep living every day for Jesus and of course that's easier said than done so by the time we get to Hebrews chapter 11 the writer of Hebrews goes back in time to begin to highlight the most famous Jewish heroes from the from that from about 1800 years before the writing of the book of Hebrews and we've gone through Abraham we've talked about Moses and we've talked about other characters but but but but tonight as we approach Hebrews chapter 11 not much as set of David but but he is listed in hebrews 11:32 you have a Bible great if you don't no worries we'll put it up on the screen the writer of Hebrews says and what more shall I say again he's well into his letter now what more shall I say for time would fail me to tell of gideon barak samson jephthah the name no one uses anymore Jephthah it's that a son would you name him jephthah that's good of David Samuel and the prophets oh there he is David David David everybody's heard of David come you know it's almost the NCAA tournament right fill out your brackets David and Goliath will be you know in the first round second round they'll be David and Goliath right big amazing school and underdog school so we David and Goliath is kind of synonymous and our it's kind of a symbol in our culture that's used quite often but I want to look at David in regards to faith and so go with me to Acts chapter 13 Acts chapter 13 and we'll read just one more verse and then we'll we'll get going are you good so good so good so good I'm good - I beat write good and golf today okay Acts the kitty we tied we tied all right kinda kinda okay Paul speaking now in the book of Acts he's actually preaching a sermon he is used by God to write nearly half of the New Testament if not more and it says Paul stood up and motioning with his hands that men of Israel you fear God listen the god of this people Israel chose our Father has made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt during slavery and with uplifted arms he led them out for about forty years he put up with them or carry them in the will and after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan he gave them their land as an inheritance all this took about four hundred and fifty years that'll tell you something about God all this took four hundred and fifty years clearly God is not in a hurry you might want to save that little thought for a rainy day for and after that he gave them judges until Samuel the Prophet then they asked for a king and God gave them saw the son of Kish a man of the tribe of Benjamin for forty years and and when he had removed him he raised up David there he is to be their king he raised up David to be their king of whom he testified and said I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my own heart I bet you've heard of that those have been around church those that even haven't been around church you've probably heard this phrase David a a man after God's own heart who will do all my will here's what like to do I'd like just for the next few minutes whether you're here at the Subhan whether you're watching online or at any of our locations in Seattle I want us to lean in on what does the Bible mean when it calls David his most famous title he is a man after God's own heart okay first of all my first impression is like David was something special right and if you're like me it's like I don't know if I'm that special David is David David's a man after God's own heart do you know how many baby dedications and weddings I have done and have quoted that one and Lord make this little baby a man or a woman after your own heart all the parents will be like yes that's what I want for my child and that's that's what every Christian wants in a baby dedication right every Christian at a wedding is like you have chosen well you have chosen a woman after God's own heart and everyone that's Christian in attendance is like oh that's a good thing that's a good day right so so let's talk about this I had lunch with a couple of friends today and I mentioned that I'm gonna kind of cover this and both of my friends were like yeah what what does that mean it's hilarious because we all say it in church culture so we're like what why is everyone laughing because it's the thing we do or always like man God someone's like hey why don't you pray out in group you know six week journey why don't we all take a moment to pray guaranteed somebody in the six week journey group will go and God give us a heart after you lord like David right I mean it's what we do but what does it mean what does it mean when it says David is a man after God's own heart will you join me in prayer God thank you for the moments that we do share share help us to be efficient ineffective thank you for your grace and your love amongst us thank you for what you're doing in church home thank you for what you're doing in Seattle in LA and even around the world and people's hearts that are joining in the community we thank you for your grace thank you for you love God with all the rain in LA and snow in Seattle we are asking that we can get some more warm stuff please god amen amen have you um ever felt not good enough maybe that's a silly question have you ever felt she just said everyday thanks for being honest but and maybe you're like Judah everybody's felt not good enough at some point in time but have you ever just felt like you know yeah you'll run into somebody who's so sharp and gifted and kind and of course we're talking about church world for a second you run into that person who just seems so spiritual right you always run into them at cafes and they always have their Bible open it's always highlighted right the Bible app right the Bible app the Bible app has been a very discouraging thing for me and I love pastor Craig Rochelle in Life Church and they created the app and there's 2 billion downloads and I thank God for it but I have several friends who what they read is sent to me on the app I have one friend he might be my cousin in Boise Idaho he probably reads like 15 chapters a day I hate him I hate him I'm like huh and he had any is two sets of twins children I'm like what's my excuse right you ever just felt like you don't measure up for instance for me school was was very difficult and I wasn't great at school and so what I did is because I wasn't good at academics I wasn't good I I just talked a lot and I know that shocking I've said this before my favorite project in school was a group project because I'll be like I'll be the speaker when we present the project and everyone's like cool then you don't have to do any work I'm like this is the best deal ever I wish all of school was a group project now some of you are really good academics and I guarantee you hate group projects okay cuz you're smart and amazing so so I just school was difficult for me I'll be honest with you there was a joke that my friends used to ask me and it worked it would work multiple times and I'm just saying this this is just what it is they would be like Judah when was the war of 1812 and I'd be like man come on guys I told you I don't do I know I'm not good with history and they would all die laughing I'd be like what I'd be like shut up right it wasn't great at school to be honest before I told that joke I looked it up because I couldn't remember if it was the war of 1912 or 1812 and that's just the truth had I not googled it tonight I would have said war of 1912 I rest my case school was difficult and to be really honest right it's adolescence you're growing up I always felt like I wasn't smart and I've always felt like I didn't measure up always had kind of that so what I did is I covered it up in school with and I don't care attitude like I don't care about school well of course you don't care about school because you're not good at school so if you care about school and you're still not good at that's embarrassing so I cover it up with I don't care right it's a classic case I don't care I don't care in the fact is I did care and I do care and I still care but often times I feel like compared to other people and their capacity to learn and retain and tension of information right I was just talking with somebody the other day and we were we were talking to a doctor and this person we were in the same environment and the doctor was talking and this person recanted recounted all that the doctor had said almost forbade him and I looked at him like and and I was like man I got lost in there my mind went to like shapes and colors you know talk about I was working on my golf swing half the time in my mind and I was like wait what and this person was locked and loaded and I'm like hey the doctors like what do you think I'm like man I really think she summed it up well it would feel like you don't measure up I I covered it up with laughing it myself and people gonna make fun of you just just you know laugh with them the worst worst thing you do is beg no I I am smart you know so I would just but yeah I'm an idiot you know and but you go home at night and you fall asleep and you're like dang man like there's a lot of smart people out there and I might not be one of them and you just feel like you don't measure up and then and then we come to church right then we come to church and and and and you may not know this and if you don't that's a good thing not that that means you you haven't been scarred yet but you know the church is famous for this not just schools churches are famous for this people come to church and it's in church where it becomes abundantly clear I don't really measure up around here right and I mean some of you've been in church long enough to know how this works you end up kind of running into pizza church folks and and in in and everybody sounds like spiritual and godly and you ever had somebody you barely know tell you how I've been praying for you and you're like I don't even know your name I don't even prayed for myself you've been on my prayer list you have a prayer list right like hey I was a reading in in Habakkuk recently like your Leviticus spoke to me today Leviticus has never spoken to me now sometimes we don't mean to but a lot of the times we do mean to and and and we make people feel less than and we we we learn to like it and and and how we do this is through customs and traditions and like any other subculture of course the church is supposed to be profoundly different than any culture in the world we're supposed to be the place that build people up add value to people go after the people who are marginalized and hurt and broken we're supposed to be the great leveler we're supposed to be the agent in the world that's like come one come all we love you you're amazing you're made in God's image but that's not really our reputation is it it's not our reputation is kind of like oh you you're not from around here are you and people like what do you mean oh you you don't so oh not not really and don't make me say tube top two weeks in a row okay but it's we're funny this way and it's not we don't we don't get this from the teachings of Scripture we we get this more from our our traditions in our our customs and our nature our our nature is we will whoa whoa you-you-you need to talk like us you need to wear dress like us you you you need to so and so that's why the narrative is on the street what it is it's what it is I'm not good enough to go to church where did that come from from God know his followers we let that story get out and to be honest with us to be honest with ourselves sometimes it feels good to be better than others and so without even knowing that we end up building whole communities on this underlying unspoken but clearly a parrot premise that that that basically were I mean I'm not gonna say it I mean God is good praise the Lord everybody he's done to work in me I mean it's not hadn't really been he's been the Lord but I definitely have become pretty sanctified and stuff so I'm just saying by the way have you seen I'm not gonna say your name but you right and that and so and so this is what happens we use characters like David and preachers get up and and they say we we need some David's in the house and people go huh all right all right we need some people who were after God's heart and everyone's like now that yeah that's right and then a few people are like kind of like me and the rest everybody is like I can't don't know if I can do that right I'm literally trying to pay my bills so wait what's the message again preacher we need some more people who are passionate about God and everyone's like all right what does that mean read your Bible post prayers on the app you know whatever it is and so we all leave our gatherings trying to be better and without even saying it we we seem to imply you'll fit better if you be better but if you get a little bit better you know you go you know we need some David's come on church folk you know we need some Esther's in the house some roots in the house some Boas is like no one says Boaz's but and and so for those of you that know what I'm talking about the the statement a man after God's own heart without even meaning to we've kind of made it a sentence that speaks to a certain status of believer well you know her now that young lady she is a woman after God's own heart and you're like whoa she is oh she she's powerful and we're like man I wanna be like nobody ever told me I got a heart after God someone told me I'm a work in progress you know like someone told me I'll be praying for you you know like we make this thing so wonky and weird through our little traditions and customs and without without meaning to we start to believe that well I'm kind of like a David in God's house you know I'm hearts just for him my heart is soft other people's hearts are hard so so here's what I was like all right all right once and for all David we've got the excuse to study David tonight it's in Hebrews 11 it's in the six week journey let's talk about David and his ultimate title David is the man after God's own heart do you know win that title first surfaces in the Bible story his surfaces in 1st Samuel 13 and it's said by the prophet Samuel before he even has met David he just knows he gets a sense from God but now your kingdom shall not continue talking to Saul he says the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart a man after his own heart now in classic contemporary modern evangelical churches like you know what does that all mean it's okay it doesn't matter okay but not what this is what we conclude a man after God's own heart is we conclude that God was looking over the known world at that time and he's like who really really loves me all right not over there say that much definitely not him oh this young man he is well he's better than the rest I choose him he's exam you'll go to the one who is gooder and better than the rest and so we let this concept please bear with me feel like Judah this is slightly insulting our intelligence I know it's very simple but we let this concept proliferate amongst the church so now it's like any other culture and subculture in the world it's a place where we get together to see who can be the best and the brightest so God will be like no no no no oh yes I shall bless you I shall not bless others but I shall bless you for you have earned my blessing why you are David in my house but that's that's not even what the Hebrew means we do our best to translate it it has two meanings the Hebrew as best as I can tell the original language means the best sentence I could put together was this God sought for himself a man according to his own heart okay so God sought for a man according to his own heart on a second first of all that means according to what was in God's heart he chose somebody hold on a second this meaning speaks first about what was in God's heart not what was in David's heart now that changes everything this is gonna tell us something about God's heart it's also gonna make you feel good enough in a second we'll just go through David's resume and in a few minutes you're gonna feel real good okay this guy's got this guy's got some problems okay two meanings man after God's own heart number one the Hebrew tells us that God had a place for David in his heart God had a place for David in his heart number two it means David had a place for God in his heart so God went looking for David now when it says God looking for David that's kind of for your understanding this side of the fourth dimension and eternity it doesn't mean that God's like man I can't seem to find him God didn't go looking like you and I go look at God God wasn't you know going through Instagram like yeah so that's for your benefit so that you can kind of understand God's process but let me say like this the Hebrew makes it clear God always had a place in his heart for David before David was ever designed and created God had a place for David now I'm gonna say it like this I'm a parent of three children Zions 14l dogs twelve Gray Ray is nine two boys and a little girl now I didn't know how many babies we were gonna have now if you go back to our notes from junior high that we wrote to each other in seventh and eighth grade Chelsea wasn't eighth grade I was in seventh grade I think you understand how important that was when you're me they're like yo are you are you are you going steady with anybody I'm like yeah you know Chelsea Smith yeah 8th grader yeah you get it huh right so I would write notes to Chelsea and and one of these notes says let's have three children this is a true story let's have three children it's like Judah that is quite a ways down the road for a seventh grader I'm a hopeless romantic relax okay so I said let's have two girls and a little boy let's have two girls and a little boy now the opposite we had two boys and a little girl but you know what's amazing when we had Zion some of you parents all I'm talking when we had Zion I was so overwhelmed with this child and he was a preemie six weeks early we were in the hospital for a while it felt like it was touch-and-go but I remember over this incubator just looking at this little baby that's so flesh of my flesh bone of my bone going my god this is this is crazy I mean you wouldn't walk to the hospital try to hurt that kid I would have killed you your mom your cousin's your distant relatives and anybody who followed you on Instagram you know talking about will cut you I mean but you never felt like that before cuz it's not love by choice I chose to love shell it's just like I didn't know there was this space in me prepared by God for this boy but here's what happened I thought to myself what am I gonna do just like let's have more kids I'm like I like the process of that for sure but holler at your boy but relax I'm sorry the single guys Graham that's my fault man but but I was worried that I thought my heart doesn't have any more room my heart doesn't have any more room cuz all of my love is for this baby I can't I can't I can't and I promise you I didn't know enough to know I else and I had this conversation I'm like we have another baby I I already have my favorite this too late it's Zion right Zion Hugh Smith he got me right first-come first-serve he got me but then we had Judah Eliot Wendell Smith and in and I was like huh I got two favorites now and you know what's crazy it's like it's like all of my heart was for Zion and all of my heart was for l-dog and then I felt later God said you're gonna have another baby and it's gonna be a little girl and your to name her grace and her story is amazing and all I can tell you is these three babies it's as if they already had a place in my heart I just didn't know it they were they were they were mined from the kidding that is my very small attempt to describe to you the capacity of your Heavenly Father he already listened to me already like you're already listening why would I say that listen to me yeah that's like whoa sorry we're talking about junior high I got scars you get it listen to me I'm trying sir you don't make any sense this is algebra I'm never gonna use this in my lifetime right I was that student a nightmare but you already and always have had a place in God's heart did you know that I text a friend today and I said you may not know this but you already have a place in God's heart it's a special place and it's only your place it's only your place nobody else can fill it I call her aunt barb she helps me do research and I've known aunt barb since a since before I was born but that's impossible to know someone but you get it and I said aunt barb is a special place for you in God's heart she says I'm crying I was like I kind of am too this was today preparing this message it becomes abundant to me that David had a part in God's heart God's choosing of David had more to do what was in his heart than what was ever in David's heart God's heart is towards you said Judah I don't believe in God I'm just telling you doesn't change the fact that he has a place in his heart for you he can't he can't deny that he can't deny that his little scriptures like first Timothy chapter 2 and verse 4 it says God desires everybody to accept his free gift of forgiveness and understand who he is why because you're in his heart you're in his heart what one day this may sound silly to you but I'm not forgetting who sings this song but you know that song do I ever cross your mind anytime do you ever wake up reaching out for me who is that Brian McKnight that's on me man that's on me I can't believe I forgot and in and is a music I grew up on and and I know this sounds crazy but this is years ago I'm in Bible College and I'm driving listen to Brian McKnight having a moment with Jesus you shut up if you judging me right now that's possible it's very possible and I felt like I started talking to me do you ever wake up just thinking about me because I'd think about you all the time you know what the Bible says about you the Bible says God's thoughts towards you are more numerous than a sand on the shore of an ocean help yourself go find you some sand and start counting the point is this you're always on his mind because you hold a place in his heart it doesn't matter what these babies do Sian Elliott and grace this heart it is forever reserved for those three children no matter what they do no matter what they do and I can't I I I don't know what I don't know how to explain to you I I can't I can't turn it off I can't deny it I can't go no I it's it's over now you went too far you hurt me you're not in my heart anymore it I've told them I've told them I'll visit you in prison I'm gonna be there I tell you that right now one hundred percent pay your bail do what I'm telling you right now nothing can change Matthew 7:11 says if you earthly fathers know how to give good gifts to your children how much more your heavenly father wants to give good things to those who ask he you got a place in God's heart I just want that to sink in for a second you got a special place in his heart that'll that'll that'll frame a day for you guys I was thinking about me I got a place in his heart says in Luke's Gospel Luke 13 and then Luke 18 Luke 13 Jesus is having this emotional moment and he's over look in the city of Jerusalem maybe you remember this story it's a real glimpse into the passion of Jesus and the Heart of Jesus and he says o Jerusalem Jerusalem and we're not sure if he actually said Jerusalem twice it's just so emphasized in the original language the translators put it twice because that's how deep of feeling Jesus is expressing Jerusalem city that kills prophets and stones those who are sent to it how often listen to him now but I've gathered use' your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings and you didn't want it you don't want that sounds like a parent whose kids don't want nothing to do with him he said I wanna I got a place in me I wanna I want to protect you I'm gonna save you I want to hold you I can't deny you I can't deny myself I I love you we are here tonight under a very powerful and yet clear premise and that is that God loves you no matter what no matter what God loves I'll say it clear more clear God loves bad people very very much Judah how you know that because he loves me God loves bad people why he's got a place in his heart for everybody why cuz yours children yours children so tonight as we talk about David we're not talking about any leaked person I can prove that through his resume David first of all David is a frustrated artist I can say that because I can relate to his emotional disposition because inside this preacher is a frustrated artist trying to get out and he's he's got all the challenges of a frustrated artist he's he compares himself he he's he's got real high highs and real low lows David is a passionate that's for sure he's definitely got a problem with the ladies even when he's married David is um well he ends up liking one lady so much he kills her husband David's a liar obviously a cheater got a little bit of a manipulator in him not a great dad some of those grandkids worked out okay but he wasn't real great with his immediate kids God was gracious with David David was a good king then he was an arrogant King he was a selfless King and then he was a real selfish King David fought many battles but saw me just didn't feel like going to so he didn't served himself served his own appetites and desires David 2,000 years later well many more than that now four or five thousand years later four thousand I'm not great with timelines don't quote me we in church in 2019 talking about I want to be a David not the whole body of work but I want to be a man or a woman after God's own heart you know where that starts yeah starts with me really leaning in and being dedicated committed and attending church and reading my Bible and highlighting and not cussing in and not smoking too much in him that's not where it starts it starts with realizing that there is a God who holds a special place in his heart that he went out and found you in the hills with your sheep when the rest of your brothers were concluded to be the good ones but chosen ones the gifted ones the good-looking ones and David's out there nobody think David's gonna be anything God uses David as an example a case study of what he does and who he is and how he functions and now under the new dispensation and the new covenant now we are all David's for God has come one for all the once and for all sacrifice for all the air the sin and the wrong of all humanity he's the great leveler and now we are all God's children we are all chosen we are all loved by God that's the message we got to get out our message is this everybody's forgiven if you'll just accept it why you're because he he's got a place in his heart for you that's why that's why he cries over Jerusalem and he's like I just need to hold you I've got two days from my babies and they're not really babies anymore but that's what pants the problem with parents is they don't transition well when they're not babies and that's something I'm working on judge me you don't even have kids sleep me alone but my babies and me I see a little girl running into the house and I just dad if the day we're walking up like you're always gonna hold man she goes probably not I'm like don't say that I need to hold your hand right I'm like and you want me to carry you no she's like dad really walking into the mall with my 9 year old hey have you seen money it's crazy love another glimpse into God's heart in the place we hold there's this moment of Luke 18 Jesus is kind of doing a meet-and-greet and in the meet and greet the disciples don't say it but it's very clear this is ancient time kids don't have a place in society they don't have a place so the disciples were real keen for the meet-and-greet but only adults so all of a sudden some parents just start bringing along you know this is better than Santa Claus they're like you need to meet Jesus and and the disciples like whoa whoa whoa this is not a preschool or an after-school program take the kids away and Jesus goes what are you doing he says what are you doing let the children come to me do not hinder them for the kingdom belongs to them they already have their place and they're like they don't have a place they got to earn their place Jesus like they already got a place in my house and the disciples are like what in the world is he talking about they're his children you know the second part of a man after God's own heart means that David had a place for God in his heart now how this works between sovereignty and freewill is very much attention but I'm gonna say this David's place in his heart for God was first a gift from God we have defined faith the word faith the most dominant Greek word for faith in the New Testament it's it literally means persuaded and we've talked about this so to be a person of faith means you have been persuaded the question is begging to be asked who's persuading who clearly it's incorrect to conclude that you persuade yourself to receive the saving power of Jesus because then you would be at least half responsible for saving yourself so you can't persuade yourself to accept the saving power of Jesus so who does the persuading well we know God God persuades you faith is divine persuasion God persuades you and we've concluded that those of us whose lives have not always improved when following Jesus sometimes they've gotten the more difficult when following Jesus just like these first century believers if I could I would promise you today that if you follow Jesus the rest of your life will be ice cream sundaes but I can't promise that you say why why do believers endure because we have been persuaded I must say this it is there's evidence is very clear that David was persuaded by God he had a place in his heart for God I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the fact that you're listening in this gathering right now whether in this room any room in Seattle or anywhere in the world online I think it proves that the persuasion has already begun God is already actively involved in your life would you two say it is safe to say that he's put a place in your heart for him now David is to be commended he's like man David doesn't give any credit no David David is persuaded by God David is wooed by God David is is is is convinced by God but but David David is responsive isn't he he's responsive and what I mean by that is he he how should I say he he's willing to own his stuff this this is what I'll give David tonight you like man David needs to get some love tonight he does he's a good man because he's God's man you're a good man you're a good woman cuz you're God's man you're God's woman God has persuaded you David seems so aware of God's choosing and persuasion that he he has this really soft heart now I think his soft heart also gets him into trouble but you'll you'll you'll notice in David's trajectory in his life and we already noted he does a lot of really really dumb things and makes dumb decisions and hurts a lot of people and there were there were Deborah consequences for some of David's dumb decisions for sure but David's like let me show you this Psalms 51 maybe you've heard of it this is the song these are the lyrics that David's a musician these are lyrics that were to be sung and were sung that David writes you know like all these breakup songs right in the music industry you break up and you write a song this this this was like on your wife and then write a song about it truly and it's really intense but look at some of the lyrics look at verse three Psalms 51 and verse three listen to lyrics of this artist he goes I know I got problems that's pretty evident a sin is ever before me Wow he said I I did this against you God I got a space in my heart for you cuz you got a space in your heart for me I don't know why I did this I'm an idiot that's interesting right cuz growing up in church I headed after God's own heart it was who raised their hands the highest who ran up to the altar of the fastest but but I think what we're digging down if David has anything to be mentioned about his disposition it's that David is like alright that's on me that was me that's my bad I'm an idiot God's like it's my guy it's my guy you are we still working under premise that God's like I am shocked what's that god I'm shocked by you why I guided the rock and right into a glass head and this is what you pay me with you sleep with Bathsheba and you kill her husband I'm shocked by you totally appalled and David's like I'm really sorry I bet you are not yet not now I'm not ready David huh no he he knows the dumb thing you're gonna do next week loves you anyways I don't mean to bore you with repetitive content but it should be noted that if God loves you today it's absolute definitive proof he'll love you next year cuz in 2020 things are gonna be clearer but um it's like Judah how long have you been waiting for that one can you imagine what 2020 is gonna be like in church home that joke is gonna be revolving but um like he knows right now 2020 early May you're gonna do something so dumb that you're gonna think God's gone but if he's here now he'll be there then he knows God's not shocked David David seem to kind of know that here's what's crazy about David all the David's dumb decisions with the exception of one and the Prophet really gets him because he's like David let me tell you story and David gets outraged by the guy who does bad things of the story Nathan's like that's you and David's like ah you got me David was just the guy chosen by God because God always had a place in his heart for David and God put a place in David's heart for God and so David recognized the generosity he recognized the blessing he recognized that he was created by the great god of the universe David lived with gratitude he lived with singing and writing and passion but when he screwed up David was almost always the guy going ah that's me but wait a minute we with all of our customs and tradition the church has become one of the most difficult places to do that now the Sunday best has become a way of life you put it on for the brothers and sisters on Sunday you put it on and when somebody says how you doing what you don't say is man I send like 18 times last week well I had a bad week but I wrote a good song say you'd had that's not Church culture today David wouldn't be able to be a volunteer in most churches today now brother you got to do some work on yourself before you start you know wanting to share it church home I mean come on but always silly we we've made this this ideal elite believer and we've used David and we have selective memory no we're we're all works in progress to be a man after God's own heart means that you recognize you've always been in his heart that God's persuaded you therefore he's already put a place in your heart for him and you start to go that's pretty amazing I love them and then when you do something dumb you hurt yourself you hurt somebody and by the way I believe your conscience is awakened by the choosing of God and so you know inherently hey something wasn't right about that what if we had a whole church full of people that were like yeah I totally did that I don't want to do it anymore all right cool six week journey is this just about getting together and being like this is good content it's really good that's a great story very interesting great history I like this yeah provocative it's awesome all right cool yeah you guys feel good yeah it's amazing awesome great jeans yeah you too yeah I didn't win a closing prayer yeah for sure all right man God's good all the time all right hey man God thanks for being here all right how's everybody doing good good good good great awesome cool okay I haven't unspoken all right we'll pray for it it's learned behavior that's all it is learned behavior for acceptance because deep down most of us feel like we're not good enough not good enough now we just keep peddling this concept and you know when you know you're not good enough it's moments like this you're like oh thank god but man things start changed in your life I know this from firsthand it's amazing how when I'm struggling in any area of my life oh my god thank you you still love me well when I've got a run of like just solid behavior for Jesus it is amazing in the deep dark crevices of my heart how I'm like well I mean it's pretty obvious why God's blessed me yeah I mean I'm a man of God boy that's toxic it's toxic and we participate in this inferior and those who are superior and we we peddle it in the jar but God wants us to be a place that's different where we all like hey man here's what I'm really going through and I'm not saying you tell everybody in the church your business that probably wouldn't be the wiser step to take okay so we're not gonna do open open mic next week you know I've had lustful thoughts towards five people in this community I'd like to tell you and say your name you know like that's I only gets gonna be productive you you you you you he's like oh no no that's okay you don't have to be that honest you know I've been at a church service like that that's where I got the story but anyways guys started pointing out girls and jerk anyways I've got so many scars but you know in these six week journey groups I don't know I guess and maybe I'm just an idealist but I just I look at this and I go man I I hope we have moments who are like hey uh here's where I'm really at here's what I'm really struggling with and I hope that we have a church that doesn't suck air yeah you are not a David a Ruth or an Esther oh you're a Judas you know like but that we go yeah totally understand you do well I just understand what it's like to have weaknesses and shortcomings and to sin and to fail you you do yeah we love you you're amazing come on now do you mean you call you next week or why don't you call me if you feel like that's is that okay that's the kind of community that I think David's life represent Oh David he's a man after God's own heart it's amazing tonight I guess more anything I want you to leave or there in Seattle or anywhere online leave with this feeling there's already a place in God's heart from me Wow and that place can never be taken by anyone else it's reserved only for you he can't ever fill it it's only for you and that's extraordinary God is can you pray with me God thank you so much thank you for what you're showing us and teaching us we love you so much not even possible to say that if you didn't love us first and this is love not that we loved you but that you loved us and gave yourself for us no greater love then when a man lays down his life for his friend you gave everything for us we thank you for that if you're here today you said you died I'd like to I'd like to follow Jesus I just I just want to say again manners there's no pressure in this space it's no pressure in this space I loves you if you said man I want to I want to yield I want to accept the forgiveness that only Jesus offers for God so loved the world and He gave His only begotten Son that who so ever believes or receives the free gift of forgiveness shall not perish but have everlasting life if you want that life that only Jesus offers and you believe with all your heart that he is who he says he is he's God he's the savior you want to follow him for the rest of your life into eternity I'm gonna ask you on the count of three to lift up your hand and then put it right back down and people ask me sometimes why why we got to raise your hand you certainly don't have to but I think when you do respond on the outside to what's happening on the inside it just makes it more real to you that's all makes it more real to you you know who you are one God loves you so much - I believe everything can change 3 if that she would you shoot your hand up all over the auditorium and say I I received amazing I believe God you see hands but I thank you you see a lot more than that you see our soul you see our heart and I thank you in this moment of acceptance and receptivity we yield to the divine persuasion we yield to your divine persuasion we thank you for that guy thank you secondly lord I pray for our church just think about Lord who we are and who were becoming and as we're growing and more people or joining community god I do pray for church home for each and every man woman boy and girl under the sound of my voice that this is their community of faith may we be a community that accepts and believes that there is a place in your heart that's reserved just for me for each and every one of us we got a place in your heart and you put in our heart a place for you and may that shape our life forever may our life be a life of authenticity and gratitude and may we recognize God that you will never cast us aside you will never reject us you will never leave us you will never forsake us and we can bring all of our shortcomings all of our weaknesses we can bring them to you and we can bring them to community we know what you started us you'll be faithful to complete it I pray that church home would be a part of the difference not a part of the problem but a part of the solution a place of transparency and authenticity and openness about our weaknesses for when we're weak then we're strong and the power of Christ rests upon us we thank you for that in Jesus name in Jesus name if you're able and willing would you stand and let's join with the band and let's sing about our God come on church hey thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video we really hope it encouraged you and maybe gave you a little something to think about through the day hey if you want to watch more you can subscribe
