The Brilliance of Johnny Depp.

[Music] when you first meet johnny depp you really do see that movie star quality where he just oozes this charisma and charm and confidence and he is more than anything the loveliest sweetest and most fun co-star you could imagine he's he's such a soulful and and thoughtful and and gentle-natured person with johnny depp before i had not worked with johnny and he was just a trooper real gent and fun and he's a very wonderful actor and he's someone who is a wonderful uh person who connects with people i love him i love johnny what makes him special i i this is gifts it's really his gifts and as a personality and as a person i just loved him i loved i loved him i loved being with him because he made me laugh every day i was there you know what it is it's johnny johnny who i love by the way he's a he's just a you know i love him i mean he's such a wonderful person to begin with and i'm a really lovely guy and it makes you feel very comfortable and and and um and easy to talk to and he was just just kind of bright-eyed guy just very um very sweet really sweet guy he's a poet you know that's the the way he talks and he's he comes up with these beautiful things and and he's still so funny he has the greatest sense of humor and he's a complete delight because he's a you know he's a fellow actor on the set you're not aware of anything else um just a huge sense of humor always available but incredible concentration and very sharing always in pretty much every film he's done he's likable there's something very likable about him he's a nice person and i think that that kindness and that fun comes across in anything he does johnny depp is a national treasure he's a real true artist he's very uh reserved and humble and he's nice and so it makes working with him very easy i just love johnny depp and he's only on like once every year so and i always i'm always sad when he leaves and i'd always wanted to work with johnny depp and i'm so lucky that they asked me to do it because he is extraordinary and i don't know it's just it was wonderful it was such a great fun experience johnny depp's one of the great character actors of our time i believe trapped in a leading man's body he's got the best of both worlds he's got that unique combination of extreme warmth and generosity and doesn't take himself very seriously like johnny always plays such extreme characters and me and me so normal and just easy going and down to earth i mean really it's something magical about my kids call him uncle fun when you are with him you are pretty certain that nobody else is having as good a time as you are you're not gonna be like bored hanging out with johnny depp a bit closer closer then maybe trunk funniest person i've ever worked with tell us the the worst thing about him um he's sort of perfect yeah i mean he's pretty something also i had a scene which was quite hard on me and quite upsetting and i was taking a break after it and i was kind of a mess and he came over and he just started telling me wacky stories about his life and and it really did distract me and cheered me up and he could sense what was going on and he was a good friend johnny that he's he's a very very nice guy it was my first film after this uh that la vie on road so i was very nervous and he was very protective he was very very nice he became a good friend somebody that you can really count on somebody that you can always trust and he's very very unique very really great man he was super generous and super caring and nice and he hasn't changed a bit in this set he was exactly the same he was giving me all of his power and talent as an actor for me to play with it and enjoy and give back to him so my moment with johnny depp will be every moment working with him being in his company feels like you feel like something different is going on in the room he's amazing what a lovely guy to be involved with his process as well because the way he works the sort of temperature and pace he has on set is phenomenal it was crazy i mean people were super nervous and he comes back from like getting all this stuff taken off i almost couldn't talk to him like it everything changed and everybody was all a flutter uh and rightfully so it's johnny depp i mean he's he's he's a stellar human being i'm not gonna like uh paint a picture of him that's not true i had done a movie with him before and he would stand out in the rain i'm not making this up for hours after he worked a 12-hour 14-hour day and signed everybody's autograph and hail right and and and literally go systematically through nobody does that nobody needs to do that but he would do that i i don't i've never heard a bad word said about it now i don't know either actually let me tell you something about the man with the hat i came to los angeles the first time in 1994 i spoke no english i only knew how to say two things two sentences one was how are you the other one was i want to work with johnny depp how cool was it that he came and did that so it was fantastic and let me tell you when he started speaking you could have heard a pin drop there was this aura in the room it was incredible and suddenly we were all on everyone's like yeah and it was just respect what was it like working with johnny depp yeah [Music] heard from brad you're going to love him he's a great guy and and i think also as an actor you've i'd seen his film so i knew you knew the guy who does all alice in wonderland and edward scissorhands you know that that person can't be somebody who takes themselves too seriously or doesn't have a good sense of humor or doesn't have so you have some you know you hope you're not wrong but you have but he is he's he's as lovely and as interesting as as you could hope i did not laugh he was so lovely to work with very fun very fun between takes really friendly um approachable i mean i know i was kind of geeked out to work with him and i think he he goes out of his way to make sure everyone feels comfortable johnny depp playing that part because on uh on the page it was an absolutely straight lead there was none of the kind of jack sparrowness none of the drunkenness none of none of that and um and so the first time i saw it was at the read through and just going wow you can make that from that that how does that imagination you know is is astonishing just to see how much he brought to the character was incredible and um and to have seen the the mad hatter on the page and then to see how he completely brought it to life was was amazing and just that he really seems to enjoy what he does he's a great storyteller and and just has has this ability to to make everyone feel like he should be here what's johnny like to work with lovely there's no bad side to the man i've worked with him three times and it's i've i've never seen him be anything but charming with everybody on set from the person that cleans the trailer to the producers of the movie he is he's generous with his time and uh giving of himself and as an actor he is only interested in making the scene better dark yeah oops really stood out to me is just you know how great a person he is and and uh and how yeah greater greater friend he's he's been to me so yeah he's he's brilliant very simple man beautiful soul and a very professional actor he gives absolutely everything to his work he's very focused and uh very generous you know he's not in his bubble as sometimes you know big stars are he's um he's just a real pleasure and he has a great sense of humor so that was lots of fun i have never met anyone with a more bizarre sense of humor nor have i ever met anyone any kinder and gentler he would always come over make sure you know have you got your gloves on you know do you have everything you know that you need are you okay and kiss me on the cheek and tell me you know buy momma i'll see you tomorrow i can't say more amazing things about him he is one of the coolest and most humble guys i've i've literally ever met and he he goes out of his way to come in every morning and be like hi how are you and kiss you on the cheek and be like are you okay how was your weekend and he goes out of his way to be abnormally nice to you it was wonderful he's a great guy and he's a brilliant artist and a very very generous actor and and just extremely extremely cool uh uh johnny paul and i have been doing the show for a long time almost 20 years i think i'm safe and saying without a doubt you were the coolest guy we've ever had on this program [Applause] isn't he sweet oh he is one of the kindest people i've ever met in my life and so sincere and he seems almost like he doesn't want to want people to really know he's that nice yeah but he is goes against his bad boy image that's true but he's very sweet but that you can't curse in a disney film see i told him i would choose to have dinner with johnny depp and johnny depp and probably johnny depp and then nobody else can have dinner with him [Music] good to work with you wonderful wonderful very easy to get along with bones [Music] guaranteed what's in there [Laughter] he's great he's a sweetheart you knew this i did not he's also larger than life in life he's a wonderful kind human so he's great he's very funny very witty he's got a british sense of humor [Laughter] help i only did like half a day with him but like you're just i don't know i felt like i was back at school trying to like hang out with a cool guy celebrating my friend tonight he's so worthy of celebration he's very shy he'll be very worthless nobody i admire more than mr dipp you
