The BIG One That Didn't Get Away | GIANT Flathead Catfish Caught From Kayak

[Music] look right here look right here that rod just went down oh yeah oh yeah buddy oh yeah but he buried that rod and honestly folks i can't remember what bait i had on here this side of the kayak is skip jack i can't remember if this is a head or a body section man he's pulling he's just got it down there man that's a good fish i've been set up here for probably 15 or 20 minutes i didn't film an intro when i got out here it was still a little dark and well quite honestly well the way my last couple trips have went i didn't know if i was going to need the intro today or not because i wasn't sure we were going to get a video the post spawn buy it for me just well it's been a dud so far typically this time of year once we get on in late july and august when the fish get off the beds i start doing pretty well but this year i just haven't haven't got it going yet i've had some decent days but i can't can't get any consistent action this fish here he's got my front line that's not another fish up there but anyway uh today i am out here i'm set up at the end of a creek and i'm right at the top of a drop i mean 27 feet right here right where it starts to drop off down into the channel i'm spot walked over that area in place of anchoring and i've got my baits suspended a couple feet off the bottom this side of the kayak that the camera's facing i had skip jack on and on the other side of the kayak i've got two pieces of white bass i've got a head and body section of each just to try to give it some variety folks i'm telling you this is a good fish right here i don't know what it is i'm gonna just take a guess that it's a flathead because it's just so dang strong down there and i haven't felt any rolling but who knows these rods here i'm using this i'm still testing out these old clearance rack academy rods so they don't have quite the bend in them that my ugly sticks do but you can see this one's got this rod buried that's a real heavy action rod and it's still oh no did he come off what the heck happened here he did my gosh he come off look at that rod now there goes that one oh crap man look at that one though oh man oh folks this is another good fish right here but i hate i lost that other one crap i don't know how that other fish came free that's another good fish right here though let's see my bait over here i'm just gonna pick it up and look at it my baits hooked good i don't know what the problem was crap man well we're getting this that other one was a good fish though folks on a positive note at least he came out of this line before the other one hit man i can't believe that i was a good fish i was battling right there oh well what can you do the good thing is we'll at least own some fish right here this morning that's better that i've been doing this one here that's another good flathead right here folks i saw his tail just then listen don't feel as good as what the other one i had hold of but he's a good one anyway i saw his tail we'll get him over here in just a second so this one here would ate the body piece of the skipjack i had i'm guessing i had back to back flatheads right there y'all i can't prove it obviously but man these flatheads are so strong the motor's doing real good it's got me holding in place here while i'm fighting these fish a little bit of boat weight coming in right now and i'm still held in place with no anchor rope down there for them to get tied up in yeah this is a good one folks i would have loved to at least got to look at the other one that's all right one out of two ain't bad when they like this look at this thing look at that whopper right there man look at that i'm gonna get him back over here if i can he's not done i'm gonna have to tire him out a little bit more see he's still he's still taking some drag he got a look at this kayak and he said it ain't for me he says i'm going home [Laughter] he said i've had enough of this i just came into this creek get me something to eat here's a so ugly thing again look at that man heck yeah buddy big old flat head that's a big one right there got mark on his back here we're gonna try to land this thing before he works free because he ain't hooked good he is not hooked good folks he's kind of skin hooked right there oh yeah i got him folks i got him i got him i got him he's coming in oh buddy oh man look at that fish got my phone here behind me about to lose it overboard oh yeah that's a tank of a flathead man [Music] i want you look where he's hooked right here folks look at this right there and just the skin of the mouth and that's what he eat little skipjack body piece oh man that's awesome folks look at this thing y'all man all right folks let me get him up here now oh yeah look at that man that's that awesome or what oh oh that makes me so happy i haven't hooked into one this size in a long time now the spawn of summer ain't done me right on the flatheads but this morning paid off i wish i could have seen his big brother because the other one felt a whole lot bigger than this but i'm very happy and thankful for this one look at that oh i can't hardly hold him up man [Music] speechless man i don't know what to say about other that i'm just happy spot locked right here where this creek drops off i just want to come up in here getting something to eat this morning my baits were waiting on some ovens have wondered about that spotlight the motor always moving and adjusting would it spook the fish well obviously not on this one i haven't had any issues yet one last look all right yeah all right flathead we'll see you buddy go on now how you going to mention y'all the last few trips out have just been awful i ain't done with the crap but putting the time in keeping after them staying persistent it pays off and it paid off big this morning on another positive note i got my bait back and it is in almost perfect condition so i'm dropping it right back down and we're going to drop this head piece down too because when i pulled it up it still looks good look right here folks we got skip jack or white bass or something right in front of me there oh hit me there he is there he is that's one of those fish that was busting right here i think it's white bass ain't come up jumping yet like a skip jack [Music] had my spoon lightning ready here cause i am a little bit short on bait let's come under that line there [Music] let's bring that in yeah there we go waiting and ready for him when he come through wasn't we throw him in the cooler we might need him well y'all this morning's trip started out awesome i doubled up there within the first few minutes landed that one big flathead and lost that other one for who knows what reason i don't know if it didn't have the bait right maybe it was just kind of skin hooked and pulled free who knows one of those mysteries we'll never know the answer to but since that point in time this morning i have had absolutely nothing going on i mean nothing it's about 11 a.m now so that was like four hours ago i moved about an hour or so ago i pulled off here i was initially set up at the top of this drop and i pulled off and set up at the bottom but even still i can't even get a tap at my bait so you know just one of them days but you know what if you ain't gonna catch but one fish i would rather it be a monster flathead than anything else so this trip was a success no matter what but they sure wasn't much action in it for against the sea so hopefully the next one i'll at least maybe get a few more fish but i don't know i don't know what's going on here lately my last trip out was kind of a buff too i caught one flathead on that trip it was you know 10 15 pound range i didn't bother posting the video from it because you know just wasn't enough action to justify the video but uh i don't know i've been in the funk with the blues here lately just can't get on really any size or numbers of them as we've evidenced in the last two trips out but that will change i will get back on them again eventually it's just a matter of time but uh anyway y'all i'm gonna get on out here we'll get to that point in a day now it is getting hot so i'm gonna take it to the house get the air condition and some lunch in my belly i'll see you next time thanks for [Music] watching
