create you can't make things happen with an ox and an ass together because their attitudes are totally different i'm an ox and i'm trying to work so if you're trying to help me build and help me create and help me be successful you've got to be another ox but if you are not trying to help me work if you are not trying to help me build if you are not trying to help me create if you are not trying to be successful get your ass away from me don't bring your ass near me because we can't be connected [Music] grace and peace everybody pastor we're in a season where vaccines are so important and we want to make sure we do our part as a church you know and i think it's very important and it starts with us everyone needs to be vaccinated so we can continue to be community we can come amongst ourselves and get out of this pandemic so listen here's the deal august the 29th 12 30 p.m this is open to the public we are partnering with agape family health and our wonderful member of mia jones davis that we will have vaccination shots here at the church that sunday that means watch service and then come and then come you have family members you need to make sure they are their friends make sure they are there this is not a bethel event it is for the community we cannot keep the outcome of this virus in the hands of politicians who care more about their politics than they do their people and it shows statistics show that if all of us get vaccinated we have more of a chance to be healthy and whole than not so listen get your vaccine you get vaccinated for everything else you get to a word that i preached yeah once again on new year's eve and i need everybody to get this word tonight i make a prophetic statement at the beginning uh before i get into the sermon uh that you're going to hear tonight now and the statement i made you're going to hear it again that those who received this word of course it was new year's eve then that by midnight things were going to start to shift on your behalf but i'm declaring to you right now everybody watching me because midnight doesn't just happen on the 31st of december midnight comes every day and i'm declaring for everybody watching this tonight that if you take this word and receive it by midnight tonight by the time you wake up tomorrow god's gonna shift some things on your behalf listen i need your giving tonight as well even though it's a flashback yes so as i'm preaching but you know your giving is so important to what we're doing here in the body of christ the si uh the city what really the country is back open people are doing their thing but beloved i need you giving because as the the country has opened up giving has slowed down and i need your commitment tonight so that we can keep doing what god one we haven't celebrated lady estelle come on let's honor her tonight we heard from my friend how many of y'all didn't know first lady could sing like that she can blow come on let's honor our first lady tonight yeah [Applause] john chapter one i i prophetically declare that if you receive this word tonight a shift is going to happen by midnight now i didn't say things are gonna change you're gonna you know all of a sudden you know everything will drop in your lap or all your problems don't go away but if you really receive this word tonight there's going to be a shift in you that even midnight ain't gonna be able to compete with john chapter five john chapter five what did i say before what did i say well i just want to see if y'all would listen john chapter five verse two now there is in jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool and aramaic called bethesda it has five covered colonnades in these lay a multitude of invalid people blind lame and paralyzed there was one man there who had been this way for 38 years when jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there for a long time jesus said to him do you want to be healed the sick man answered sir i have no one to put me into the pool when the water stirred while i'm going another steps down before me jesus said to him rise take up your bed and walk and at once the man was healed and he took up his bed and walked amen you may be seated in the presence of our god hallelujah i want to preach and teach tonight the last sermon of this year with this subject check your dvr y'all y'all like this up here that's kind of hot ain't it check your dvr check your dvr there is an author by the name of j.r.r tolkien who pinned two really famous books one called the hobbit and the other called the lord of the rings he had a statement in the hobbit that said not all who wonder are lost w-a-n-d-e-r as i read as i read that statement again recently in an article my mind began to try and unpack what he really meant by that not everyone who wanders is lost that's that's that's technically correct some wanderers are intentionally taking the scenic route in life not everyone who wonders is lost but here's what is true those that get lost usually get lost by wondering nobody gets lost on purpose when you get lost you lose your your bearings you lose your sense of direction you you stop and think to yourself when you're wondering how did i end up here this is not where i wanted to be have you ever asked yourself one or both of those questions about where you were in life when you were wandering you're moving from place to place and here's what i've discovered to wander is to be active but aimless you're active because you're going but you have no direction because you're not sure about the specific destination you you just want to wander from relationship to relationship job to job church to church and you still haven't found what you've been looking for the problem really is you don't have a clue what it is you're looking for and if you don't know what you're looking for you'll probably always miss the path that leads to it uh help somebody tonight i can't take credit for what i'm about to give you i wish i could but one author has said that there are three types of wanderers hope you all ready the first one he calls the buffet wanderer the the buffet wanderer y'all y'all know what a buffet is yeah a buffet has a variety of options available they they've got all kind of options yes available they got various food categories you can choose from and you you walk around the buffet looking at all of the food but you never put anything on your plate you you you've got a plethora of choices at the buffet and but because there are so many choices it's causing you decision paralysis yeah you've got the fear of making the wrong choice because i don't know whether to choose the salad or i don't know whether to choose the string beans i don't know whether to choose the collard greens i don't know whether to choose the candied yams i don't know what to choose and if i choose the prime rib i won't have enough room for the salmon and if i choose the collard greens i won't have enough room for the potatoes and so now because there are so many choices at the buffet you're stuck and you can't decide and even when you do decide you can't fully enjoy what you put on your plate cause you keep second-guessing your choices [Applause] oh well maybe the reason you aren't putting anything on your plate is cause you just aren't hungry how am i not hungry but i'm at the buffet because you've been munching on cheetos and candy and chips all day to tide you over and in the process you lost your appetite yeah the buffet wonder is the person who can't choose a career can't choose a relationship you can't choose a job don't even know how to choose a church you just wander back and forth looking at all the options or you're no longer hungry for something because you've been feeding yourself on junk food relationships and junk food jobs and cheetos social circles y'all didn't got quiet so that when the right thing comes along you are so filled with junk you ain't got room it's the there's the buffet wonder but then there's the the bubble wonderer there's the bubble wanderer um yes have you ever blown bubbles yes have you have you ever blown have you ever blown bubbles or have you ever seen anybody blowing bubbles um if you watch little children blowing bubbles they blow them and then they try to catch them and your mission becomes at least catching one all of the bubbles you're blowing and the wind will carry one right in front of you and you reach out to grab it and just when you think you got it it pops but that's okay cause you chase another one you catch it but it pops and the cycle keeps repeating itself chase catch pop chase catch pop this is where a whole lot of folk not you but the person sitting in front of you this is where a whole lot of folk live they are fixed on the magic of a dream and you run from bubble to bubble hoping to capture its magic because you believe that the magic will change your life and you never stay in anything for long because the next bubble looks like it has what you need and it's always the bubbles fault for popping but it's never your fault for chasing what keeps popping [Applause] there's the buffet wonder there's the bubble wanderer but then there's the entitled wanderer entitlement is the feeling that you are old special treatment even though you did nothing to earn it now i know this is going to get me in trouble but this is where most millennials live oh i'm in trouble now this is where most millennials live they feel they're entitled to make a certain amount of money entitled deliver y'all don't get quiet on me here's the problem entitlement leads to misguided expectations and expectations represent the minimum level that you are willing to accept but when our misguided expectations are high it messes you up and then when you're messed up it leads to wandering now i'm not saying lower your expectations but you got to ask yourself what have i done to believe in the expectation that i have have i prepared myself in such a way that i have a right to expect certain treatment in return oh y'all look quiet let me tell you something there are two areas that entitlement destroys they are gratitude and responsibility are y'all gonna listen to me tonight because if you wanna believe that you are old something just because of who you are you'll never be thankful when you get it but it also excuses you from responsibility to achieve for yourself what you believe you already deserve okay come on let me put it right in your face if you have ever prayed god how could you allow this to happen to me you have an entitlement problem this whole section if you ever pray god how could you let me go through this you have an entitlement problem because to suggest that it's to suggest that you are entitled to not go through anything [Music] i also think i'm coming to the text i also think there's a difference in wandering and being stuck even though both lead to the same results see when you are stuck you are frozen by indecision or fear you can't move okay you're in a ditch on the side of the road with a flat tire and you feel helpless but you don't know what you should do should you try to change it do you even know how to change it should you call triple a you aren't sure what to do so you do nothing and pray that somebody comes along and sees you you just sit there waiting sometimes you don't even know what you're waiting for but you're just waiting on your chains to come stuck here's all i've been trying to say so far wandering is really an internal problem not an external problem it's a you problem and to fix any problem you've got to first identify the problem you got to first say if i keep going to the buffet and don't know what to get if i keep blowing the bubbles and they pop and i keep chasing them then maybe i'm the problem and you need to be awakened to your own internal dysfunction and that's what jesus did in this text there were two miracles in this text the miracle of the man's legs but also the miracle of the man's mind see too many of us have spent time trying to fix what's going on around us but never fix what's going on inside us y'all ain't got to say midnight i came to deliver somebody and jesus had to heal his mind before he could fix his legs see the problem with many of us is we want him to fix our legs but he doesn't fix our mind and if he fixes my legs but doesn't fix my mind i'll be right back chasing the bubbles tomorrow talk in your holy spirit a whole lot of y'all have already written out some lag resolutions for 2019 and the problem is the reason you wrote them out for 2019 is because you wrote them for 2018 but you didn't accomplish it in 2018 because while you put the leg down you didn't ask god to fix your mind god i feel the holy ghost in here he's got to fix his mind jesus comes to this pool which was the daily meeting place of the people with problems the sick were outcasts in that society and they were forced to live a life of begging and the culture of that they believed that sickness was a sign that you had done something wrong so to help a person cursed by god would be to incur the curse upon yourself and the rumor was that a sick person could be healed when an angel stirred the waters the bible says jesus sees this one man and approaches him with one question that's really all i'm a deal with tonight do you want to get well now now let's be honest it appears to be a silly question with an obvious answer i've been here 38 years what you mean do i want to get well it appears to be obvious until you unpack it um do you want to stop always being in this position do you want to stop always being known as the one who can't get it together okay i i got to bring it down main street do you want to stop being thirsty do you do do you want to stop being the side do you do you want well y'all got quiet so i had to come put it in your face do you want to stop being needy do you want to stop being in debt do you want to stop being so pessimistic do you want to be happy do you want to be self-sufficient do you really want it do you want 2019 to be better than 2018 [Applause] and it all starts with checking your dvr a dvr is something you load up with recordings you want to watch over and over it is loaded and the problem is if you don't know how to delete some stuff to add some stuff yeah yeah it's going to get good now and tonight as we get ready to go into 2018 we're going to check our dvr now you already know dvr is an acronym it stands for something here's the first thing in the dvr is d if you really want things to be better you've got to get to the place of dissatisfaction [Applause] okay if you're writing change begins with dissatisfaction what you mean you will never be able to change anything you're willing to tolerate [Applause] oh it's gonna get good tonight no notice in the text the man's response and you'll see the necessity of the question jesus asked the man answered jesus with an excuse not an answer he said i the reason i'm still sick watch what he said is cause won't nobody help me and when i get close somebody gets there before me let me unpack it he blames the other sick people who selfishly cut in front of him y'all ain't helping me now he he he said when i want to get in somebody else who needs to get in like me beats me it ain't my fault it's the other sick folk fault who cut me off they prejudice mr mike on they don't like men they don't like women oh y'all don't get quiet now it ain't my fault jesus it's their fault jesus knew something about the man's heart and he knew that it was impossible listen to live with a problem this long of a time and not get used to it because after a while you accept your condition watch this and you begin to adjust and you adjust to your condition by making excuses and compensate for your dysfunction oh come on look straight ahead i know yeah this man watched me had learned how to get by and tolerate his problem can i prove it what does he say to jesus i have no man to put me in the pool he says sir which means he doesn't know who jesus is but the one thing he does know by saying sir is that jesus is a man y'all missed it he don't know he's the savior but he knows he's a man says i have no man to help me in the pool y'all didn't get it yet but a man is the one standing in front of him asking him does he want it but he has so mentally adjusted his mind to failure that he doesn't even recognize when a door gets open [Applause] preaching here holy spirit i think the reason jesus has this man the question was to cause the crippled man to become dissatisfied with his current condition he wanted the man to imagine what wholeness looked like see some people have no future imagination because of their present toleration is the prerequisite for change because you can't change what you choose to endure you won't change your habits if you tolerate your behavior don't worry shout out voiceover change requires the catalyst of dissatisfaction see this satisfaction is really a seed of hope huh because you will only become dissatisfied if you have hope that there's something better out there y'all ain't helping me tonight y'all ain't helping me no satisfaction ain't the seed of hope satisfaction is the seed of settling dissatisfaction is the seed of hope because the minute i know god made me for something better than what i'm settling for and the minute i believe it's out there for me i'm gonna get up from where i am because i'm not satisfied with where i am because god's got more if you're dissatisfied being broke you got hope if you're dissatisfied going from relationship to relationship you got hope i don't i don't want to tear this place up but i'm looking for about a thousand of y'all who can say i believe and i know that god's got something greater than what i've been settling for and i'm gonna let my dissatisfaction over where i am be my hope to go get better [Applause] would you look at somebody and ask them how dissatisfied are you in some areas of your life see come on i just came to teach tonight see hopeless people hopeless people are satisfied people hopeless people are satisfied people because hopeless people believe can't nothing change and when i start believing can't nothing change i get satisfied settling where i am can i talk to you tonight you get what you expect [Applause] okay it's about to get dark in here if you expect failure then you're gonna fail if you expect to lose then you're going to lose and here's what happens to people who get satisfied and stuck in their failure you begin to build a culture of losing around yourself that acquiesces to always losing and then you get spiritual with it i guess it just wasn't for me i guess the lord didn't want me to have it if god really had it for me then child it would have worked out for me i guess the lord just wants this to be my lot in life y'all don't got quiet in here and see once you do that then even when people try to get you to win you resort back to the level of your losing thinking because you have built a culture around you of failing and losing jesus is in the man's face wanting him to win but because the man has built a culture of losing he don't even know how to win but oh when you get dissatisfied with struggling when you get dissatisfied with crying when you get dissatisfied with being broke when you get dissatisfied from going to job to job i'm looking for the dissatisfied folks when you get dissatisfied with having to settle for what's beneath you dissatisfaction will lead to boldness you only helping me in here when you get bored you'll start trying something outside the boundaries of what they said you should do when you get bored you dare to step out of their box and tell them that's what you said i got to do but i'm bold enough to step out of your box would you grab somebody by the hand and tell them 2019 is the year i'm coming out the box and i'm bold enough to fight for what god had y'all ain't ready i said shake your neighbor's hand and tell him neighbor i am not satisfied and i'm coming out the box y'all said i had to act one way i'ma act a whole different way y'all said i had to have that degree but i'ma get it without what you said because i'm not satisfied where i am [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] this i'm this satisfied one area of your life have you settled for just getting by and where have you created a culture of excuses because you've adjusted to losing d is for dissatisfaction the v we're almost done the v is for vision vision vision you see once you become dissatisfied with where you are you need to have a vision of where you want to go [Applause] see some folk get dissatisfied because they know they should be further along or should have more should be doing better but then they don't get a vision for where they should go you you're going to all these vision board parties and uh-huh and writing out your cute vision and cutting out stuff out the magazine and pasting it on the poster board and they never practiced it here's the trip part watch watch what the man said again he said i have nobody to help me in and and when i when i want to get in watch this somebody beats me to it which means sharon watch me if somebody beats him to it he is seeing people healed come in he said every time i want to get in somebody beats me to it which means he is getting a vision of what it looks like to no longer be sick he got vision in his face on a daily basis but his inability to be dissatisfied blinded him to the testimonies many of us many of us get the vision of people that god has done something for watch this but your culture of losing blinds you to the testimony and causes you to be a hater god oh my father god is putting people all around you every day that were where you were where where you are but have been healed and delivered and set free and got back on their feet and instead of you having vision because you have indoctrinated yourself to mediocrity you start saying i wonder what they did to get that [Applause] i heard they did such and such to get that ain't nothing to them they gonna fall before it's all over y'all let me hear the church say vision vision is a clear and compelling picture of a preferred future keep that up there for me if you don't have a future you prefer you can't have vision oh y'all quiet now now you see why dissatisfaction has to come first cause only when i'm dissatisfied do i begin to prefer something other than what i'm settling for [Applause] i'm preaching good and y'all ain't saying that you you you you've got to have a picture of a preferred you got to have a picture of you being out of debt you got to have a y'all done you got to have a picture of you living in your house you've got to have a picture of you opening up the business you've got to have a picture of your marriage surviving you've got to have a picture of your child graduating from high school and then graduating from college i wish i had some folk in here who can say god just give me vision of a preferred future this man saw it every every day because the man said every day somebody beat me to it you know what the book saying which means every day he's watching some folk go in come out delivered but because he has created a culture of negativity and failure and marginality here's this problem as a result of creating that culture it's difficult to thrive when you don't have a purpose to live for [Applause] come here and your purpose has got to be bigger than just your happiness oh it's quiet now if your goal is just to be happy you just guaranteed your sadness y'all don't like me today because the things that make you happy go up and down because happy means you're happy when your happenings are happening and your happenings ain't happening all the time so if all you want to do i just want to be happy in your marriage get ready to be miserable i just want to be happy on my job getting ready to quit y'all done got quiet in here now because your goal cannot be happiness because now i'ma get the shout i'm looking for because the things that make you happy are not the things that will bring you joy god help me i thought i'd get a better shout right there am i talking good in here how many of y'all know your happiness ran out but you didn't quit because when happiness ran out you still had your joy because joy ain't got nothing to do with me being happy that's why some folk call you fake and phony because they know you lost the job they know you went through a divorce they know you got a disease they know your husband walked out on you and you in church with your hands lifted you speaking to folk every day and they looking at you come and look at them being all phony want folk to think they ain't going through the devil is a liar i hate what i'm going through but the reason i don't act like i'm going through is cause my act ain't tied to my happiness my act is tied to my joy and this show come on take the breaks off me that i have the world didn't give it and the world can't take it from me shake your neighbor's head and tell them i got joy joy when i'm broke joy when i sleep by myself joy when i'm unemployed joy when i catch the city bus joy when i take chemotherapy joy when my friends walk away i've got y'all is there anybody in here who can say i ain't got but five dollars in my bank account but i got joy in my you some of y'all messed up this year because you kept pursuing happiness you better pursue joy [Applause] don't pursue happiness pursue purpose see did you hear what i just said don't pursue happiness fulfillment doesn't come from happiness fulfillment comes from purpose this man had no purpose some of y'all ain't got no purpose you're just living from day to day you just take it every day as it comes oh y'all are quiet find your purpose what the french call your raison d'etre your reason for living this man had no purpose vision starts with understanding that god has a purpose and an assignment for my life see the devil wants you stuck pursuing the wrong things so you never walk in purpose and he wants you loyal to trinkets you make your goods your god but baby when you know god has a purpose for your life you will refuse to stay in anything that's beneath your purpose and your value i thought i'd have a better shout right there because i want to just i don't know who this is for but you are more valuable than what you've been settling for i don't know who that was for right there but baby you got more value than what you've been you got more value than the way you let that man talk to you you got more value than the way you let that boss denigrate you you've got more value than you let the way though your family talk to you come on just nudge your neighbor you eat him gotta shake their hand and tell him do you know your value cause if you really knew your value you would stop staying in stuff beneath who you are [Applause] i've got a purpose jesus is trying to get this man to see i've got a purpose and it don't include this i've got value and it's bigger than this see the minute you start affirming your god-given value and your purpose you'll begin to see all of the examples around your pool y'all didn't get come back come back come back the minute you start speaking it to yourself i'm the head and not the tail i'm the first and not the last i'm an heir and a jointer i'm the lender and not the borrower i'm a king and i'm a queen can i tell you all of a sudden your eyes get open and you start seeing all the examples all around you i'm finna help some of y'all right now your whole row is a pool but i came to let you know your role ain't a pool of sick folk yo-ro is a pool of delivered folk so just grab your neighbor's hand real quick and tell your neighbor neighbor if you need an example that it can get better you sat in the right seat some of y'all better move your seat cause look like you sitting by stuck up folk i said touch your dog on neighbor and tell your neighbor neighbor if you need an example that god is a healer you said in the right seat some of y'all better move your seat i said grab your neighbor and tell him open up your eyes look at somebody he healed look at somebody he delivered look at somebody he set free look at somebody he fought for look at somebody he restored look at somebody whose child he saved look at somebody whose marriage he said look at somebody who got healed from cancer open up yours look at your neighbor yeah now you're gonna offend your neighbor but they'll be all right if you sit next to somebody ain't smiled all night look him in the face and tell him child you must not have your eyes open because all the shouting i've been doing it should have been a signal to you that if god did it for me [Music] he will [Music] d is disappointment v this vision r is responsibility dissatisfaction vision responsibility jesus doesn't lay hands on the man doesn't put oil on the man he don't tell the man come to my conference next month [Applause] [Laughter] he doesn't say do you have 15 shackles you can sow into me did i tell the man shouting it's going to get better jesus gives him a command that requires personal responsibility and the miracle happened when the supernatural partnered with human responsibility see y'all some of y'all been going to these spooky churches where you think if they throw a sheet over your head or blow on your face wipe they sweat on your brow that all of a sudden your problems gonna disappear the devil is a liar personal responsibility look at this the man the man said i ain't got nobody jesus that's cool you don't need nobody they missed the shout out the man said i ain't got nobody jesus said you don't need nobody y'all ain't got it yet the man said ain't got nobody jesus said you don't need nobody all you need is to just do what i tell you to do y'all ain't y'all ain't helping me jesus gives no commands to the part of his body it would take to be healed it took the man responding to the command for the parts to be healed the man had been waiting on a hand jesus said use your own hands [Applause] are y'all reading the book take up your bed that means use quit looking for a handout [Applause] use your hand y'all don't get quiet [Music] stop blaming others and stop making excuses and take responsibility because making excuses robs you of your power and makes you a victim and a passive observer of your own life talk boy it will hinder you i'm done from what god has for you it frees you from responsibility of doing anything for yourself now can i help some of y'all because i know some of y'all get real analytical five minutes i'm done there is a difference between fault blame and responsibility the condition you're in could totally be somebody else's fault that you were in a bad situation y'all ain't gonna like me and you got every right to blame them but no matter whose fault it is you're responsible for your own actions if they knock you down it's their fault but if you stay down [Applause] that's your fault y'all done got quiet in me y'all they got quiet in here now jesus jesus does not say he don't say i want to know how you got down i want to know what you did to mess up jesus says i don't even want to know how you got down like you do all i want to know is do you want to stay down cause if you don't want to stay down trust what i tell you to do and your down days are over i came to speak a word to somebody that if you want your down days to be over stop blaming your ex-husband stop blaming your racist boss stop blaming your betraying friends stop blaming where you were born see how quiet y'all done got now all of that may have put you down but you ain't got to stay down shake your neighbor's hand real quick and tell them you ain't got to stay down here huh what you have been thinking you need other people to do here comes the prophetic word for 2019 what you have been thinking you need others to help you with next year you go fix it all by yourself i thought i'd get a better show i said what you thought you needed people to help you fix god said get ready to fix it by yourself make next year the year of no excuses i want you to go to three people and tell them fix it by yourself fix it by yourself pick up your own bed because what was your example of being a victim is going to be your example of being a victor y'all ain't got it yet i said grab somebody by the hand and tell them get ready to pick yourself up you've been used to
