The Bethel Church Live Stream

in july of 1838 the first baptist church in jacksonville florida was formed under the name of bethel baptist church starting with six charter members four whites and two blacks who were slaves of those white numbers the first house of worship was built in 1840 and as you can imagine in true belt of fashion the congregation outgrew that bill my father in the ministry before once my predecessor was leaving to go to texas i was in that corner i had preached my first ceremony and that was it and then he from that point recommended me to be the original at pastor rate the church was going bishop senior knew he'd need some help tending to the members so he called on his son i did not call my son here because he was my son i called him because he was the capable person competent person committed person that i felt we needed i told my dad no when he first asked me i know because my thought was if you bring me back and the church doesn't bring me back when you go off the scene for any reason if i'm still living they are not required to keep i need that church to vote for me so as the lord would have it i came home to preach my dad's anniversary i brought church choir flew down with me from toledo and i think a week or so later i think deacon william scott went to my dad and was like grab you need to bring your son like call the church meeting they call the church meeting yeah unanimous vote to bring me home so that's when i said yes because the church voted to bring me back well i thought that as god would bring allowing him to bring them in by the teaching of the preaching [Music] [Applause] you couldn't get any better teaching you couldn't get any better preaching any better leadership than what god has in store in this man so the lord be with you i ain't going nowhere let the lord be with you [Applause] [Applause] now known as the bethel experience a movement untouched and senior pastor bishop rudolph mckissick jr says the next season of this church is bigger than we can ever imagine we had begun to hang around so many power couples and maybe i shouldn't use that phrase but pastoral couples that i saw the hand of the lord not only uh on my wife as ministry relates but i saw the hand of the lord on her life as it relates to team ministry it took him convincing just like you know she went through her own wrestle to submit to the call it was a separate wrestle to submit to being the executive pastor for me i don't see it as the executive pastor but i see it as my team partner my team pastor that puts us in team ministry at this time in our ministry i think it's just amazing how we've evolved even in this pandemic as team partners together never knowing i would be in this position years before but now i can see the hand of god in his will for me to be with my partner with my husband going into this next phase of ministry and going higher with technology with the creativity and innovation that bishop has i can see us doing so much more as a ministry with our community and i think the future is absolutely bright we'll say ye i agree bishop we can only go higher with god so all it all goes lead to a greater and brighter future there are no limits to what we can do we've seen that in the community so say at the shepherd so say it the [Music] [Music] flop you to the bethel experience this is the day the lord has made be sure the god who holds us in the palm of his hands so for that we say thank you come on let's search it up that's nothing by god everybody says everybody your head everybody clap your hands just everybody clap your hands come on let's look it up you want to lift your hands and say if there's something my god can i do if there's nothing my god cannot do there's nothing my god i cannot do hey there's stuff in my guy if you believe that you say it there's well bevel this is the day that the lord has made we will rejoice and we will be glad in it i'm glad i don't know about you but i am mighty glad to know there is nothing my god cannot do as a matter of fact wherever you are whoever you are right now you ought to just shout in your house there's nothing my god cannot do he can do anything he can do everything as a matter of fact he is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all i could ask and above all i don't know what you're facing i don't know what you're dealing with i don't know what you're going through but pastor it's mighty good to know that there's nothing that our god cannot do there's nothing in it that's strength in that there's nothing he can do and so i'm so glad about it we serve a god that can do anything and he does everything and so we gonna shout on that this morning listen we have been in this kind of setting now for what like 15 16 months and god keeps on blessing over and over people thought church wouldn't survive people thought churches wouldn't survive but god has done it that's that exceedingly and abundantly above all we can never ask for it because there's nothing he can't do oh my gosh nothing so once again we gonna worship and shout on that so listen we've always been a singing cop i gotta can't do my hair i look like a hip-hop a rapper doing this let me stop doing that i look like a so listen we've always been a singing congregation we sing everything so here's what i need y'all to do wherever you are i need you to get up my zoom audience i need you to get up stand up everybody on your feet y'all already know this song but we rock it all the time and all i want y'all to do is hit that there's nothing my god cannot do and between that and that alicia keys vibe the man hand going over there we go we gonna rock we gonna rock this thing i want you to put on your mind everything you need god to do i want you to put on your mind everything you thought he couldn't do i want you to put on your mind everything people said couldn't be done and i want you to stand up and rock with the praise team that there's nothing my god can't do and then after that i want you to go get your sacraments because soon as i make two or three announcements we're going right into the sacraments so even if you got to you know chicago step of our lord and savior jesus christ i know some of y'all are seeing all this stuff behind me y'all y'all are trying to figure out what he got going on this morning well y'all know me um you know everybody that's been accusing me of doing all this crazy stuff y'all know i get it from my daddy right for years my dad used to do props and crazy stuff out the box so i grew up seeing that but it's gonna be a wonderful sermon word this morning the word of the lord lets us know that on the night in which our savior was betrayed he took bread and blessed that he took a cup and lifted it up it's amazing that now for the 14th time consecutively we have not been able to do this together as a family one of the important things about communion is communing is fellowship is oneness so we've had to do this without always being together but the word of the lord says as often as you do it it didn't say you had to do it on first sunday it didn't say you had to do it all in the sanctuary and said as often as you do it do it in remembrance of me do it remembering me paul said do it discerning the lord's body in other words do it not out of habit not out a ritual but do it remembering that his body was broken his blood was shed just for you and me you see that bread you see that cup on your screen all of that was done just for you and i that we might have eternal life that we might have salvation that we may have abundant life here on earth so if you did not come and get your sacraments this morning you know that there's no magic in the sacrament so if you just got a piece of bread get you some juice whether it be grape juice apple juice you got wine whatever you got you grab it because it represents the body and the blood of our lord and savior jesus who is the christ so with the bread whatever bread you have in your hand the word of the lord said that jesus told them that this was his body broken for them and for us let's all eat together [Music] i see you're eating on zoom i see you eating on soon likewise the word of the lord says that after the supper he lifted up a cup [Music] and told them that this cup was the blood of the new testament he said i will not drink it again until i drink it anew with you in my father's kingdom his blood means life that means you've got life his blood means healing that means you've got healing his blood is a cover that means you've been covered and we know from that old school church song his blood is power that means you've got flowers so as jesus said to those disciples i say to all of our disciples let's drink together hallelujah listen i want you to get ready for this word this morning first samuel chapter 30 is where i want you to go this is a life changing word this morning i mean life changing first samuel chapter 30 the first six verses the praise team is going to prepare us i i want to give a shout of of thanks our praise and worship leader brother jeremy was in an accident this morning a car t-boned him but he is safe sound and secure from all alarm and i need wherever you are watching i need you to give god a cover praise right there come on i need you to thank god that he is safe he was t-boned y'all his car had to be told but he could walk y'all didn't hear what i just said yes i'm trying not to mess with it his car had to be towed but he could walk y'all didn't hear it again his car had to be towed but he could walk y'all didn't hear what i just said his car had to be towed but he could walk y'all didn't hear me see we complained about so many things you woke up with an ache in your knee or an ache in your hip but he was t-boned his car was towed but he pried his way out of the car on his own two feet and watched his car go away not a scratch not a harm not a hurt and i need somebody real quick to give god a thanksgiving praise for jeremy come on come on i need you to give him a praise i see you all on soon i see you giving him a praise i see you're giving him come on i need you giving god a praise right now hello he's safe he's secure he's unhurt he's unarmed and the redeemed the community of faith ought to give god a praise that that old song was right all day that covered him in the middle of an accident now can you shout for young angels that people covering you and protecting you and guarding you come on give god a good praise right now right now right it go i'ma let it go but when there's a testimony [Music] you want to give god a praise when there's a testament you want to not just shout when god does something for you but you ought to be able to shout when he's done something for somebody else because the same god that did it for them is the same god that'll do it for you so take about 45 seconds and just lift up the praise [Music] he's a want to do anything be involved in anything be connected to anything that you cannot get glory out of now use me have your way this morning let this word be life changing for somebody listening in jesus name amen you know i'm so thankful the lord just said something to me he said you know tell the people that while they may be sad they're not on the scene tell them to rejoice that at least they're in the room through your screen did you hear what i just said you're not on the scene but you ought to shout that you're in the room god let us live long enough and now you just ought to you just ought to give god a praise right where you are ain't on the scene but i'm in the room i'm in the room i'm in the room first samuel chapter 30 first samuel chapter 30 hallelujah right at verse 1 first samuel chapter 30 right at verse 1. david and his men reached zig lag on the third day now the amalekites had raided the negev and ziklag they had attacked ziglag and burned it and had taken captive the women and everyone else in it both young and old they killed none of them but carried them off as they went on their way when david and his men reached ziglag they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive so david and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep david's two wives had been captured a high number of jezreel and abigail the widow of nepal of carmel here is the verse david was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters but david i'm a sh i'm a flip it and use that old king james for this last phrase but david encouraged himself in the lord his god we are in a series this is part three from victim to victor this morning i just want to talk about me myself and i me myself and i in in a in a recent study done on on what people fear the most in life one of the answers in the top three was something that at least for me was startling and revealing one of the top three fears people have in life listen to this is losing people everyone this this this uh statistical analysis concluded after doing the actuary science and gathering all of the data doing all of the analytics he concluded that everyone on some level fears losing people be they friends partners through a variety of ways breakups somebody or you moving elsewhere that when people leave your life or walk out of your life you begin to question sometimes what you did wrong did you say something offensive or are you just not good enough were you not meeting their needs or did you lack an essential quality that made you genuinely likeable and and every now and then and sometimes you can beat yourself up and allow the questions and anxiety to keep you awake at night without realizing that you will sometimes never know the answers for why people walk out of your life and even if you did let's be honest would it really matter one one author has said that your life is like a bus in many ways people will hop on and off your bus as you travel through life some will travel on your bus for many years until they see a bus traveling in a direction they need to go in so they hop off yours and get on that one instead others will only ride your bus for a short distance some will travel with you through a variety of things emotional drives if you will challenging drives grieving drives and others who get on your bus if you will may try to convince you to change your direction before they leave you stranded and alone other times there will be passengers that you wish you could throw off i've discovered that why people get on or off your bus and come with you on your journey is more philosophical than it is personal that while they may join you on your bus because of personal reason reasons they they won't always get off for the same reasons here's what i do know very few people will stay with you to where the bus terminates its journey the majority of people will get off somewhere in route and you can't cry or break down whenever someone gets off because you didn't want them to you can't plead with passengers to stay with you until the end or for a few more stops people get off when they decide to get off and here's the bottom line you have to learn how to be okay with the inability to manage how people manage their relationship with you and this morning i i want to help us discover how to manage when folks seem to turn their backs on us i'ma stop right here in the middle of this this is a this is proof of a human moment because i forgot to tell y'all to give this is proof of a human and this is proof that i ain't got no pretense so i'm stopping in the middle of this word some of y'all gonna sow a seed in advance for this word but the rest of you you know your tithe and your offering that belongs to the lord i need you to make sure you've done that now some of y'all have probably already done it ain't no say the beauty about being okay in your own skin is that your mind being human sometimes and i forgot to do that so i need you to come on put that on the screen and i need y'all to back that camera up a little bit it's all the way in my face yeah y'all see all the giving all the giving platforms right there on your screen if if y'all already know it put the qr code up you can put the qr code up all you gotta do is put your phone on that put the camera on that it'll bring up the link for all the giving platforms and you can give that come on everybody just repeat ain't no shame in bishop's game ain't no shame in bishop's game he is absolutely positively human but i i would be remiss if i didn't let you do your giving so you can get your open windows to get your blessing so one more time put all the other giving platforms thank you there you go right there all right let me get back to this word in this text we find david has been out at war once again he has taken his soldiers with them and they've gone out to war and the bible declares that when they return they discover that while they were gone the enemy army has come in and kidnapped their wives and their children their sons and their daughters they they go out to war when they come back they think they're coming back to a victory party but when they get back they have the potential of a pity party because they get back and discover that not only is the city where they're residing burned down but they discover that their wives are gone their children are gone and the trip part is the text says that the enemy doesn't kill any of them the enemy takes them and kidnaps them and the bible declares that david's men are ticked with him david's men want to can you put yourself in the mind of david for a minute you're the leader you're the one who committed the strategy you're the one who gave the orders and when you all get back to your home everybody's family is gone and it's nobody's fault but yours and the bible declares that with everybody against david with everybody ready to kill david with everybody ready to stone david the bible even declares that david is in his own distress he has cried and they have cried so many tears that there are no tears left in their tear ducts for them to even cry they are this they are disgruntled they are distressed they are mad but the bible declares with everybody against him david does not start to play the victim he doesn't play the blame game he doesn't go into a poor me speech but the bible declares david encouraged himself in the lord you better hear me this morning everybody was against him but david said if i ain't got nobody else it's gonna be me myself and i david declares if everybody else wants to kill me if everybody else wants to stone me if everybody else wants nothing else to do with me i'm gonna be all right with me and that's my word to somebody today i need you to get to the place where you can say if everybody's against me if everybody turns on me if nobody answers my calls if nobody responds to my text i will not wallow in self-pity i will not throw a pity party i will not play the victim but i will stand up and declare i'll be all right with me i'll be all right with me what i want you to see is the reality that david was greatly distressed hear me he was going crazy but david made a choice about how he would manage not only the predicament of the kidnapped families but also the predicament of the men who have seemed to have gotten off of his bus and are ready to kill him because they blame him dave david y'all i need you to hear it david could have very easily chosen to play the victim i need you to hear me this morning he could have easily chosen to play the victim he had every reason to play the victim after all his enemies have defeated him by coming in and taking all of the families he is responsible do y'all hear me he is responsible for everybody's families being taken he is responsible for all of his men being upset with him and now not only have his men turned on him but now they want to kill him he could have played the victim and decided to do nothing but wallow in self-pity but what we learned from david is that sometimes to operate as a victor means you cultivate through the power of the holy spirit the ability to bounce back it's a refusal to allow your condition to determine your disposition it's a refusal to allow what knocks you down to keep you down and if you know the end of the story david got it all back in the end because of the choice he made concerning how to manage this i'ma say that one more time in the end david got back everything he as a matter of fact he didn't just get back everything he lost but read the entire chapter when you get a chance he got back more than he lost when the enemy took what he took and it was all because of how he managed this want to suggest to somebody listening to me today that the difference between you recovering and losing is the choice you make you better hear me somebody today needs to make a choice about everything the enemy has stolen from you and you got to stand up and declare i refuse to cut my losses and move on i refuse to say win some lose some i refuse to act like this one just got the best of me i can get it all back i want to talk to y'all looking at me on zoom i want to talk to everybody watching me and i want to declare to you today you can get it all back if you make the right choice about how to manage your situation if you make the right choice about being a victor and not a victim if you make the right choice that i'm going to be all right i came to declare to somebody it's the day to get your joy back to get your peace back to get your mind back to get your vision back to get your family back to get your finances back to get you back you ought to declare right now this is the day i get it all back because of the choice it ain't just gonna drop in your lap i know you hear that in some preaching that if you just shout dance run but the choices we make is the difference between what i lose jesus and what i recover you better hear me somebody listening to me today needs to hear me you feel like david you feel like you have hit or you are close to rock bottom but can i give you some good news from david that is for you and please don't throw your phone but can i give you some good news today when david hit rock bottom he found god waiting on him y'all didn't hear it come back let me say it one more time here's the good news today having the lord in your life don't mean you won't hit rock bottom sometimes knowing how to shout speaking heavenly language sowing seeds going to church being a good christian doesn't mean that sometimes your life won't feel like you hit rock bottom but here is the shout today when you hit rock bottom god is there waiting on you i wish i had a whole 4 000 of y'all who could testify in this room today that there have been times in my life when i hit rock bottom and the only reason i recovered the only reason i'm still alive the only reason i'm still here today is because when i hit rock bottom god was there waiting on me god was there waiting it's an interesting juxtaposition suggested that there is this subtle implication in the text that the men think they would feel better by what they do to david but david feels better by going to god let me say that again you got to get the juxtaposition in the text the men spoke of stoning him but david encouraged himself alone come to that just a minute the implication is that what would make them feel better about what they were going through was putting david through something can i can i just be honest most of us are like those men we think making folks suffer will stop our suffering but i'ma show you this morning why that never works let me let me give you three points three points for those of you who are feeling like you're by yourself you're all alone you're in a situation and nobody wants to help you everybody's turned against you how do i manage this here's the first thing let your theology determine your methodology let your theology determine your methodology here's what i mean by that what you think about god and how you think of god and how you see god will determine the method you use to manage situations here what i'm telling you the god we see is the god we get and sometimes the god we get is not all the god we can have but it's all the god we get because it's all the god we see preach rudolph mckissick because how we see something determines how we use something okay look at the text in every translation i read go go to every translation you can find one says david encouraged himself in the lord another says david found his strength in the lord go to every translation that translates that description differently there is one word in verse six that is in every single translation that i went to can i tell you what that word is that word is but every trans every tr every translation has a different phraseology they even encourage themselves in the lord david found his strength in the lord david strengthened himself in the every translation has a different description of what david did but the one word that is in every translation is the word but but but but but david had everything against him but david had everyone against him but um david was deeply distressed but david was all by himself god but david couldn't get nobody to come to his rescue but let me help you out but but is a contravening conjunction with a subordinating feeling i know this ain't a grammar class so let me help your butt is a conjunction y'all y'all know what a conjunction is conjunction junction what's your function a conjunction is a little word that connects two different thoughts but the difference with the conjunction but is that it contravenes it negates it diminishes what's in the first phrase because of the power of what's in the second phrase y'all didn't get it whatever is on the front side of the butt loses its power because of what's on the backside of the butt y'all didn't get it whatever happened on the front side of the butt doesn't matter because of what sometimes you got to do the butt yeah you got to make sure you got the right thing on the other side of the butt so that whatever happened on the front side of the butt loses all of its power here it is david was greatly distressed the people wanted to kill him but david yes encouraged himself in the lord his god maybe david remembered that the lord had never failed him in the past maybe david reviewed the promises of god he had written about i don't know exactly what drove david to this but but i do know that david understood that there is power in god to encourage my soul when i feel like being discouraged but david encourage jesus himself in the lord y'all y'all sometimes you just gotta shout on the word but i'm broke but i got food on the table i don't have a job but i woke up this morning in my right mind every nine days you got i lost friends but i still got me you you got to sometimes learn how to put the right thing on the other side of the butt but david encouraged himself it's interesting now when the text do we see david wallowing in self-pity or go listen whatever i tell you or going over what has happened and nowhere in the text do we see david rehearsing well what did i do wrong how did this happen how could they turn on me and i i've been their leader he he he he and the holy spirit spoke to me here's why he goes to god don't miss this because god is the one that made the promise of him becoming the king and he ain't the king yet come here you missed it he goes to god to get his encouragement because he trusts the promise god made about where god was taking him and he knows since he hadn't walked into yet what god has for him he can't quit where he is whoo and if he quits now then he misses out on his destiny here what i'm about to tell you so because david encouraged himself in the lord he doesn't project onto his future god i love it the difficulty of his present y'all didn't get it here comes your tweetable for the day you you if you gonna encourage yourself in the lord and if you're not gonna quit you can't dress rehearse tragedy huh you can't dress rehearse tragedy yeah y'all y'all know i was i was an opera major and and so always the night before the opening show or the day before the opening show they would hold what was called the dress rehearsal god this is about to get good to me the dress rehearsal was in preparation for the real thing you did in the dress rehearsal everything you wanted to do in the real thing y'all ain't talking to me you did in the dress rehearsal everything you expected to do in the real thing you acted in the dress rehearsal like what you were doing was already happening it it was the place the dress rehearsal where you made sure you had everything together for the real thing and how you manage the dress rehearsal could determine your attitude going into the real if you had a bad dress rehearsal you would be nervous about the real thing but if you had a good dress rehearsal you knew the real thing was gonna be all right now at the dress rehearsal you didn't wear jeans or a sweat no at the dress rehearsal you wore your costume you put on your costume you put on what you would wear when you got to the real thing you rehearsed at the dress rehearsal as if it was the performance y'all better hear me stop rehearsing bad things that haven't even happened say it again stop dress rehearsing bad things that haven't even happened i'mma say it one more time some of y'all can't even get to your future because in your dress rehearsal you already talking about what ain't gonna go right who's not gonna help you who's not gonna be there for you what's not gonna turn out what they not gonna do for you and the reason your future is as bad as it is is because in your present you keep dress rehearsing your tragedy to dress rehearse tragedy creates false drama it creates negative meditation some of y'all can't sleep at night because in your dress rehearsal all you thinking about is how bad tomorrow is going to be let me tell you something else number two refuse to be addicted to approval um did you know that some people get high off of the approval of others approval addiction um approval addiction is when your sense of self is tied to how other people feel about you come on we going to the deep end of the pool it's it's when the way others feel about you becomes more influential and has more authority over you than how you feel about you or the way you feel about me has the power to change how i feel about me i can feel good about me until i heard what you said about me and because i gave you the power to determine what i feel about me what you said about me changes how i feel about me when you have approval addiction if they say it it changes your mood jesus you you start to believe people more than you believe god see this is one of the things that leads people to play the victim they close up shop because of how people around them are treating them and they retreat into marginality and do nothing i'm just going to do i'm just going to do a little bit i'm just going to do a dash i ain't even going to do that i ain't giving my all to this because they don't appreciate me then then when people say what's wrong with you they people who are approval addicted report to others as to the reason why they are the way they are how people do them what people are saying about them that david was not caught up in approval addiction because if he had been this day would have turned out very different you you better hear me everybody wanted to kill him everybody was against him but he doesn't let his attitude or his actions be determined by the fact that right now they don't like him you better hear me not being liked won't kill you but waiting to be like just might let me say that one more time not being liked ain't gonna kill you but waiting to be liked just might because you're gonna get stressed over who you want to like you but don't like you not liking you ain't gonna kill you you out here chasing down why they are no longer your friend on facebook why they unfriended you are you kidding me you wondering if what they posted was about you are you kidding me you're wondering why they didn't speak to you like they spoke to somebody let me tell you one more time not being like they ain't gonna kill you but waiting to be like just mike that's a rough word right there don't you make other people's perspective your problem don't you make what other folk think about you their problem don't you make even their perspective of the situation you're a problem don't you make their perspective of you their problem if david had taken on their perspective of the problem and their perspective of him he would have had trouble they were blaming him ready to stop can't y'all can't you see the scene can't you see it let's let's get him let's let's kill that negro he he doesn't messed up our family he didn't mess up our man let's get him we didn't we done followed him and now we're enjoying can't y'all say the same here can't y'all see they're over huddled in the corner they're whispering and giving him him the side eye they're trying to figure out what's going on can't y'all can't y'all see their their body language and they're shooting units at him and cutting their eyes at him and whispering at him and clenching their fists at him and if david had just watched them and looked at them he might have gotten discouraged but here it is tim this is going to get them you got to learn how to have what i call energy management huh what what is energy management bishop here what i'm about to tell you write this down somewhere um um i'm going this one other people's opinions comes with other people's energies let me say that again other people's opinions comes with other people's energy right there i see you all up there on that screen write that down write that down uh i'll see you cupping your hand joy people don't just have opinions they got energies with their opinions and sometimes their energy is stronger than their opinion so it ain't their opinion that troubles you but the toxicity of their energy stays in your soul oh this is good to me right here yeah sometimes it is it ain't that folk have a certain opinion of you but because you don't know how to manage energy because you don't what do you mean by energy i mean i mean their attitude their mood just the aura that surround them the look on their face see because when you are approval addicted when you are insecure and need people to approve you sometimes you'll get over their opinion but the toxic piece of their energy stays with you oh preacher mckissick you you got to learn how to have energy management see and when you learn to encourage yourself in the lord it puts you in the energy management business so that their energy won't shift your energy am i talking good to somebody you can walk on that job with the folk you know can't stand you and their energy ain't gonna change your energy you're gonna speak to them you might even invite them to lunch you can walk in your house and right now you and your your husband or your wife ain't on good terms but you ain't gonna let their energy disturb your energy you you can walk in church good god from zion and know there are folk there who don't like you but you can come into church and give god the praise because you're not going to let their energy shift your energy you you can run into somebody in the mall that you know been running their mouth about you and you know been lying on you and you know they want to destroy you but you're going to walk right by me say hey man what's up hey girl how you doing because you refuse to let their energy shift your energy y'all they're saying unto me now because when you encourage yourself in the lord he gives you an energy called joy and when you get joy nobody can take it because nobody gave it to you and i came to tell somebody it's time for you to start managing energy better than you've been managing it don't be approval addicted here's the last thing i won't tell you first thing i tried to try to say two things so far your theology determines your methodology number two do not be addicted to approval here's the last thing this is good this is the heavy one how we treat others a giveaway to our own self-care okay um david is the leader which means the men looked to him for encouragement they looked to him for direction they looked at him for strategy they looked to him for a good word they they look to him for uplift but the text says david is as distressed as they are he's crying like they're crying but he's the leader he has an assignment responsibility to be the leader the strategizer the encourager the text says but david encouraged himself in the lord and the holy spirit said to me david teaches us a major principle you can't help others until you help yourself jesus um you you it's like it's like on the airplane you know one of the instructions they always give you is if you lose cabin pressure and the mass drops don't put it on the person with you first put it on you first cause if you out of air you don't have the sense about you to help somebody that's next to you whoo you can't help others until you help yourself david is a leader and understands that as a leader his job can only deliver through other people but he can't do his part if he's not healthy mentally emotionally and spiritually y'all better hear me he he he won't be able to do right by them until he does right by himself so if he doesn't do right by himself it will come out in how he does them here what i'm telling you how we manage others is a giveaway to how we are managing self that david knew he was in no shape to manage or help others until he helped himself see the reason oh god help me say this right the reason some of us treat others with messiness and disdain and pettiness is because of a lack of attention to a healthy self the reason some of us always got somebody else's name in our mouth and the reason some of us aren't in shape to be a blessing to other people is because we don't have a healthy and i ain't talking about all the nice quotes that you put on facebook that you don't copy and paste it from somewhere making folks i ain't talking about that i'm talking about when you are in people's face and when people need you and when you are called to be a blessing to somebody i'm talking about not being mean and ugly and nasty and backbiting the reason people are like that is because they haven't taken care of themselves and when distress comes you you got to know how to take care give me some strings how to take care of yourself and here's where the enemy gets most of us cause most of us have a method of self-care it just ain't the right one and your method of self-care is a giveaway to how you manage the care of other people when some people are in stress they here's their self-care that's that's that's they self-care through through a bottle they they take a good shot because they that's their self-care or they they take pills cause that's that's their that's sometimes they take the pills with the with the shot because that's there that's their that's their self-care they or for somebody they've gotten good at cutting open the paper taking out the tobacco and putting the weed in it and then and they think they're in self-care and eventually how you manage self-care bleeds over into how you treat other people but some people's some people self-care is not substance there there are some people who practice the self-care of going to the mall and going through all of the racks to see what they can find let me let me shop you spending money you don't have you're getting yourself closer in debt cause you no no let me give you the good word they call it retail therapy and you you walking out the mall with a credit card balance that's bigger than the balance in the bank account but you've convinced yourself you feel better you've encouraged yourself in the mall [Laughter] some folk encourage themself in the bottle some folk encourage themselves in the pill and the bottle some folk encourage themselves in the blunt some folk encourage themselves in the mall now you can't pay your bills now your family's in trouble now your house is in foreclosure now you're cussing your maid out now you're not dealing with your family now you're mean to everybody because you think if you can just take enough shots you'll feel better about what's not right in your life if you can take enough shots some of you have convinced yourself you can't work without the shot jesus you need a good shot before you can perform i i don't mean perform as in on the stage but i mean in whatever duty you have to do because you've convinced yourself this is the only way for you to make it you you convince yourself the only way you're gonna make it is it then there are others who encourage themselves on a therapist couch where you're laid up telling your story listening to a therapist who knows psychology but not theology listening to a therapist who's making you recall your past when paul said forgetting those things that are behind me on a couch where people are making you pull up the pains of your past when the bible says god said behold i do all things new and i'm not knocking therapy and we all need a therapist we all need somebody to talk to [Music] some people encourage themselves in the bottle some people encourage themselves in the pill some folk courage themselves in the weeds some folk encourage themselves in the mall some folk encourage themselves on the couch but i came to tell you let's be like david if you really want if you really want to encourage yourself if you really want the right kind of therapy if you really want to be encouraged if you really want god to do something for you if you really want god to stand you up if you really want god to start you over if you really want god to restore your mind if you really want god to restore your joy if you really want god to restore your peace can i tell you what to do take the weed take the bottle take the pills take the clothes get up off the couch and get down on the altar and get yourself in the posture to say god encourage me encourage me so i can get rid of the bottle encourage me so i don't need the pills encourage me so i don't need to weed encourage me so i don't have to go broke you've got to encourage yourself in the lord and i might have a witness that when you get on your knees when you get in your closet when you turn it over to the lord when you ask god to be your portion he will encourage you he will strengthen you he will lift you he will give you power he will give you peace he will give you joy he will give you strategy he will give you direction he will give you plans he will lift up your bow down head and game and encourage himself in the lord in the lord i know what i'm talking about because i've encouraged myself in every one of these i've i've encouraged myself in the bottle i've encouraged myself in the pill [Music] yes i i've encouraged myself in the blood i've encouraged myself in the mall and got now finances to a place where i'm having to borrow money from lotte daddy and everybody but god will let you live long enough where you discover that in times of trouble yeah you'll discover that when you have nobody but you you got you and god and you got to get down on the altar get in your prayer closet and let god encourage you and lift you [Music] self-care this is the beginning of mental health month and i want to tell somebody your mental health has a lot to do with your relational health how you practice self-care will deter and the reason the enemy's got some of y'all in the self-care of the weed or of the bottle or the pill or of them all but for some of y'all i didn't have it up here your self-care is in what you eat and the reason the enemy has you in all of that is because he knows you are assigned and anointed to be a leader you are assigned and anointed to be a lifter you are assigned and anointed to be a soldier and a general and a business owner and a husband and a father and a wife and a mother and an educator but the devil knows if he can keep you encouraging yourself in the wrong stuff if he can if he can keep you if he can just keep you encouraging yourself in this if he can just keep you encouraging yourself if he can just keep you encouraging yourself in this it'll keep you from being there for other people i came to kill a demon today i came to give somebody breakthrough today and let you know that god is waiting on you he's waiting to give you the courage he's waiting to give you the strength he's right in courage it's spelled e-n-c-o-u-r-a-g-e but in courage is in courage i-n-c-o-u r-a-g-e encourage is when god gives you courage inside so if you ain't got no cheerleaders if you ain't got nothing but haters if you ain't got nobody helping you you've got courage inside you to stand up and know if god be for me it doesn't matter who's against david encouraged himself in the lord and he called for the ephod which is what the priest used to go to god and he said to god god what do i do next do i go after it and god said go after it and you shall recover it oh you better hear what i'm about to tell you david got next because of how he managed now some of us are holding up our next because of how we're handling now some of us can't get to our next because of how we're handling now can i tell you today the enemy isn't after you now he's after your next jesus but he destroys your necks by what he helps you to do in your now your next is sending your children off to school your next is watching your children become adults you're next is to go from supervisor to business owner your next is to go from watching working on a job to going back to school your your next is from getting out of your mama's house to getting your own apartment your or your own house your your next is from sitting in the pew to being a leader your your next is from being depressed to having joy but you can't get there because this is what you keep encouraging giving advice about messiness and your life messy and i'm not saying you'd be perfect because god knows i'm far from it but many of us create this illusionary world where we we convince folk that we deep and together because it's the only way to masquerade the messiness in this mental health month get some self-care david had good self-care the lord is my shepherd i shall not want he he makes me to lie down in green pastures he leads me beside the still waters he restores my soul he leads me in the path of righteousness for his name sake self-care yea though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i ain't gonna fear nothing cause god is with me his rod and his staff they comfort me i ain't gonna get distressed by who walks away from me god prepares a table before me in the very presence of my enemies then he anoints my head with oil and my cup runs over surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life david had good health care health self-care the lord is my light and my salvation whom shall i fear the lord is the strength of my life of whom shall i be afraid when the wicked even my enemies came upon me to eat of my flesh they stumbled and failed though a host shouldn't care about me and this will i be confident one thing have i desired of the lord and that will i seek after to behold the beauty of the lord and to inquire in his temple for in the time of trouble i won't be a victim in the time of trouble i won't self-medicate in the time of trouble i don't need the drink i don't need the bottle i don't need the weed i don't need to shop i don't need the food in the time of trouble he shall hide [Music] in the secret pavilion of his tabernacle shall he hide me he shall set me up upon a rock and i shall not be child of god where's your self care [Music] you got to get good self care you got a good good self care you got to get good self-care you got to change your method of self-care you got to change your method of self-care you've tell somebody forgive yourself for everything you did and tried in your dark days i don't know who that's for but god told me to tell you everything that your self-care led you to do whether it was abusing your spouse lying to your spouse cheating on your job quitting your job going broke and not being able to take care of yourself hanging out with the wrong crew so you could get the medication you needed god just told me to tell you forgive yourself today for every bad decision you made when life got rough oh my god so god this morning i i speak this word of deliverance help us to make self-care a priority god sometimes we even get so busy taking care of other people that we don't take care of self and we don't even realize that our busyness is a weapon of the enemy we don't even realize that our thirst for being needed can be a weapon of the enemy and we are in such bad shape self-wise because of every other decision we're making so god this morning forgive us for trying to find our encouragement in the wrong things forgive us for improper self-care forgive us for not finding our self-care in you thank you today that you sent your son jesus christ to die on the cross of calvary so that ourself could be abundantly blessed thank you today and god today i command the thirst and the taste for things that can't help or heal us i command that taste to be gone help us to make a choice it ain't the liquor calling us it ain't the weed calling us it ain't the pill calling us it ain't the mall calling us it's not the food calling us it's not the sex calling us it's a choice help us to make the choice to want to be so healthy self-wise that we'll encourage ourselves in the lord and god if there's somebody listening to me today that needs that couch i thank you for therapists but it can't stop there because you can't have therapy without theology and for some of us we're calling up a pass you've already forgiven i don't know for some of us we're calling up a pass you've already told us it's gone for some of us you we're calling up a pass where we can make a choice to forget those things that are behind us we're calling up a past when your word says whom the son sets free is free indeed help us to find our strength in [Music] you [Music] god this morning if somebody doesn't know your son somebody's not confessed him as savior and if somebody doesn't have a church where they're connected even virtually god this morning they're going to get an opportunity to make a critical decision and i pray that you will move on them to make the right choice in this mental health month help somebody to start making better choices for their own self-care and because their next depends on their now in jesus name hey listen to me god i feel the holy ghost if you're here this morning and you've never accepted christ as your personal savior you've never opened up your mouth and said jesus i believe you died for my sins and that god raised you from the dead today make that confession and salvation is yours or bishop i am saved but i don't have a church where i am growing where i am connected and bishop this is the kind of word i need but i don't live in florida and when you open back up i can't get to you oh yes you can how can i get to you bishop the same way you're getting to me this morning and all you got to do is do what you see on the screen
