hey everybody frugalbrando here just as important as being smart with your money you also need to be smart online in this day and age the point of today's video i am going to be going over 10 password managers and the one that now as of 2021 i actually have to pay for due to their changes the best password manager is going to allow you to create new unique passwords and also allow you to save all of your passwords in one place specifically all because some of them have limitations but we'll get to that in a bit now you might already have a password manager and you might just not know that's what it's called for any of the iphone users out there you would have access to icloud keychain and for anyone who's using android or say google chrome on a desktop you would actually have access to google's password manager system let me know in the comments below if you are using either of these currently as your password manager and while you're down there in the comments section feel free to hit that like button to help me out with the youtube algorithm if you are using icloud keychain or google's password manager and you are saving randomized or you very unique customized passwords in there and that's working for you then that's great that's perfect both of those are free for your device and that's really it now for me personally i have more than one device as most likely all of you have out there and i actually have three apple devices and two windows devices so saving something in my icloud keychain not syncing over well come on that's just a first world problem now let's say i saved a new password on my iphone and it went into the icloud keychain well let's say a week later i had to go on my desktop and sign into this account i wanted to check something but my iphone was in the other room and i have chrome on my desktop so i don't know what that password is well you could already go with resetting the password and not getting your lazy butt up but maybe you want to keep that password well in that case i'd have to get up go to my phone unlock it go to icloud keychain unlock that too as i believe there's an extra security layer there then click into the account then click the password then type in that password and god forbid you enter that thing wrong because it is going to be completely randomized the next eight password managers that i'm going to mention actually should solve this problem since they work across plenty of operating systems devices device types but a lot of them are what i would call freemium so this is where they offer you say a free version of the software that does have a good amount of the features but it's only to get you hooked until you max it out or you're locked down to a certain number of devices and in order to upgrade and unlock more then you have to be a paying customer what's the perfect password manager to talk about of being freemium in 2021 specifically march of 2021 well that's going to be lastpass lastpass in my personal opinion used to be the best of the best of the best but they're changing their free plan in 2021 to now only allow you to have one device type so if you have one device type lastpass is going to be amazing for the free plan because they still have unlimited passwords that they allow you to have two-factor authentication the vault is encrypted but it's stored locally so they don't actually have your data it's great the problem with this is it hurts everyone who's using multiple device types so my phone and my desktop well that's a computer and a mobile so that hurts us so now i either have to pay for premium and thankfully they are giving all their free customers a discount which maybe i'll be buying that shortly here but i had to go around and find if there were other free alternatives or some of the other paid alternatives to see the price points around here sadly it seems that lastpass is kind of just keeping up with the trend as the majority of secure reliable password managers out there are following this freemium structure where they give you a certain number of features for the free plan but for additional security or for access that's going to cost you now in terms of the best one that i would still probably replace it with is going to be bit warden so bit warden is great it also supports unlimited devices device types two-factor it autofills your passwords it's open source which is nice and that's all for free the part that's really cool with bit warden is if you do need their premium features which i'll show a list here about what the difference is it's only 10 bucks a year so this is a great option and i guess disclaimer here no i am not sponsored by any of these this is just me being stuck in a bind having to choose between different password managers now that lastpass is going to be charging me since i was on their free tier so i did all the research and figured i'd film it and put it on youtube to help anyone else out there who's trying to be smart with their money but also trying to find a cheap reliable password manager next up on the list we're going to have node pass now this is another one that is pretty great because it has auto fill auto save the only bad side or i guess con with nord pass is going to be you're only allowed one device at a time so if i wanted to use nordpass on my phone then okay sign in to nordpass from my phone and then i have access to all of my passwords there that does sync if i then had to go back to my desktop well i have to sign back into nor pass and it'll sync that's not a big deal really and if that's not an inconvenience for you the free plan of this might be pretty great their premium option which i'll list up here is going to only be 30 a year which is not a bad deal for what you're getting they do also have a family plan coming in under fifty dollars a year which in terms of the average pricing this is also really good i do have nordvpn so i will say that and i've loved it but i have not used nordpass and nor will i be using them this year spoiler next up on the list is going to be one password now this is one of from at least what i've done in my research this is one of the best reviewed password managers out there but it's not even freemium it's premium the only plans they have are paid for the base plan that starts at three dollars a month so 36 a year so it is a bit pricier than some of the others but the two things that i saw that were really cool with one password is 24 7 support and the ability to recover deleted passwords for the past year so if you accidentally deleted something two weeks ago and you needed it back you can recover it that's a pretty sweet feature so if that's worth 36 dollars to you this might be the option they do also have a family plan which i believe is around 60 dollars a year which seems to be average for this area another highly reviewed and highly rated password manager is going to be dashlane now the problem i have with dashlane goes into its freemium plan which is probably one of the worst that there is you can definitely tell i'm not sponsored the problem with dashlane is that you are only limited on the free plan to 50 passwords i think i have more bookmarks in google chrome than that would exceed 50 so the free plan of dashlane doesn't benefit me at all so i would have to sign up for the premium plan that starts at sixty dollars a year and then is ninety dollars a year for family which is a lot pricier than others but it is unlimited everything and the benefit of this one is it does also offer a vpn so this could be a one-stop shop company so maybe i can get rid of one vpn and get rid of lastpass and just sign everything with dashlane as if i would be able to secure my passwords and be secure when browsing the web in general and only have one bill a year pretty nice feature but let's keep going next up on the list we're going to have roboform this one is reviewed and rated as very user friendly and it can also autofill on desktop applications not just websites so that is a really cool feature it also has no password limit however kind of like some of the others you're only allowed to one device at a time the other problem with this one it doesn't even sync between devices so your laptop your phone your desktop things like that but you always need one device connected to the internet it is pretty affordable for the premium version of this though and i will once again put the plans up here and you can also pay for five years at a time which brings the cost down to twenty dollars a year which is in the pretty good price range for a password manager from what we've seen now the next two password managers i'm going to mention are going to be a bit more technical in nature than the others since they require more upfront work on your side but they could also be more secure depending on how you set them up the first one that's going to be a bit more technical is going to be my key these passwords are not stored on a server and you're actually hosted from your computer through their software so you always need to have one computer on or one device on in order to sync your passwords if i always have my desktop on 24 7 and i had my key on there and my key on my phone the passwords would sync back and forth whenever i updated they also have 2fa 2-factor authentication autofill password sharing support chat and the really cool thing here is it's 100 free you are also very much in control of your passwords and anything you store in my key since they are not in control of your data it is all stored on that device that you always have on and when you do sync it to something like your phone that also is encrypted to the device so it's pretty cool and i might have to check this one out in the future when i have time to the last one i'll be talking about now is going to be keepass so this one is fully open source which means you're going to have to know a bit more technically if you do want to run this or probably find some youtube video about it on how to set it up there will be an official release of the program for windows however there are third-party created solutions for mac os android and ios this one is going to be hit or miss as i mentioned depending on your technical level but once again open source and free if this sounds like something up your alley and you want to control your password managers and all the settings behind it keepass might be a great option so now that we reviewed all 10 of those the first thing that we have to make sure is that you did click that subscribe button down there if you have not already when you were down there clicking the like button obviously but we have to talk about the password manager that i'm going to be using in 2021 that's going to be lastpass it's just such a short time that they're giving me to do all the research and to find out what other alternative i would like to go with that i think i'm going to just have to pay for the plan i am also doing the family plan as i am going to be sharing this with a few people so that's going to be nice how it is discounted but let's see if we can find any other discounts out there to help bring this cost down and stick it to lastpass if there is such a thing as a password manager community this is the news or press release that's titled it since lastpass has been definitely at the top of the game in this space but now that they're limiting it to the device type that's going to probably bring a lot of users away from their platform i do think a handful such as myself will upgrade to premium or families while they do have this discount going on but we'll see what happens in the future now the nice thing with this though is we got that little pop-up from racket in about another 20 percent cash back so not only will we be getting 25 percent off the family's plan so bringing it down to 36 dollars but we'll be getting another 20 off that which is going to be pretty cool i'll probably put the uh the math here for what we're gonna do but let's now upgrade to families congratulations to lastpass they actually made me spend money which is a very rare achievement now i would say a last pass for anyone who does want to pay for it they are great i'm obviously buying it you don't have to buy it maybe a free or cheaper alternative will work for you personally i'm just buying it for 2021 into 2022 and then maybe i'll do a bit more research on these to see what password manager i might use next a lot of these also have very easy import export features so it's not difficult to migrate your passwords from one to another and bit wooden for ten dollars a year and i believe that's two users is a pretty great deal i will also have to check out my key and key pass since i am technical enough but we're gonna have to see until next year so that wraps it up for this week's video thank you so much for watching until the end please consider clicking that like button down there if you have not already i have new videos coming out every week bunch of great content coming up so please consider subscribing to the channel if you have not already and that's really about it so until the next video please as always be sure to be smart with your money
