the Tesla Model Y is the world's best-selling vehicle and is on Pace to become the best selling car period but doesn't live up to the hype well I love my model 3 so much that I ordered a model y for my wife exactly one year ago and we took delivery of it earlier this year this is my four view of our 2022 Tesla Model y after driving it over 5000 miles and later in this video I'll bring my wife on so she can tell you her thoughts as well the Tesla Model y currently comes in three variants standard range long range and performance I've always been a fan of the long range Tesla vehicles because they provide a good balance of range and performance and it's precisely why I ordered my Long Range model 3 over six years ago and still own it to this day now before my wife and I ordered our model y we debated on purchasing another electric vehicle specifically one that was more affordable but we ultimately chose the long range model y because of what I call the five s's safety software space supercharging and Superior range let's start with the order and delivery experience ordering a Tesla is very simple it's all done on their website and the good thing is when you place your order you lock in the vehicle price now we ordered our Long Range model Y in October 2021 and the total cost was fifty five thousand four hundred and forty dollars which is quite a lot of money but guess what that same exact vehicle that we ordered cost a whopping twelve thousand dollars more today so this is now a seventy thousand dollar car after factoring in taxes and we took delivery of our model y seven months after placing our order and we ended up getting the most affordable model y trim because all the features my wife wanted came standard with the car including White paint five seat interior with black seats and 19-inch Gemini Wheels Plus all Teslas come standard with autopilot so as much as I love having full self driving on my model 3 it's absolutely not worth the fifteen thousand dollars for most people including my wife she actually hates FSD but loves autopilot unfortunately if you get the white paint make sure you're aware that the rear bumper may be slightly mismatched due to the fact that it's a different material than the rest of the body this light paint mismatch is not super obvious and it's going really noticeable under certain lighting and angles but it was one of the handful of problems that our brand new model y had that we had to make multiple service requests for to get fixed now I did an entire video about all the problems here but the bottom line is Tesla fix all of them for free cover under the new vehicle warranty except the rear bumper paint mismatch which they were just like yeah sorry that's just how our white paint looks so you're just going to have to deal with it on the positive side this is my wife's car and she barely notices it uh so the paint mismatch doesn't really bother her that much now let's dive into the main features of the model Y which is essentially just a larger SUV version of the model 3 sharing 75 of the same parts now since we already owned model 3 we knew what we could expect from owning a model y it has the same 15 inch Center touchscreen display which handles pretty much all of the controls for the car other than the two steering wheel buttons and two stocks one on either side of the wheel it has these same seats as the model 3 except that they're on a platform for a higher position has the same glass roof but without a center bar so it's one big panoramic piece of glass which is fun to look out of it has the same free Tesla mobile app that controls many of these aspects of the car from anywhere and with the ability for the smartphone to be the key which automatically locks and unlocks via the Bluetooth but the model y has a hatchback instead of a trunk and is wider and longer with much more storage capacity which is one of the biggest reasons we've wanted a model y we are a growing family and the model y has more cargo volume than nearly all of the other electric vehicles that we were considering including the Ford Mustang Mach e which has 60 cubic feet of cargo space compared to 76 cubic feet in the model Y and this proved to be a great decision because when we took a family trip to Michigan this Summer we used up every inch of storage in our model y including the subtrunk area and the front trunk both of which are incredibly useful when traveling with kids in fact the frunk makes the perfect diaper changing station which is something we definitely could not do in the Hyundai ioni 5 or Kia ev6 and I'm 6'3 and can sit pretty comfortably in the back seat with enough leg and Headroom so the size is perfect coming from the smaller model 3. the model Y is great but the model X is on another level and I'm excited to be working with today's sponsor omaze to offer you a chance to win an eco-friendly Tesla Model X plaid and support a great cause Reverb go to omaze.com Amy slide to enter for your chance to win a model X plaid which is a perfect combination of performance space and luxury with over 300 miles of range seating for up to seven the largest panoramic glass roof of any SUV 17-inch infotainment screen rear seat screens with wireless gaming capabilities and Falcon Wing doors this is the coolest Tesla vehicle right now before the Cyber truck of course and I would definitely make this my go-to car for family trips by entering the sweepstakes you can help support Reverb the leading Green music movement that partners with artists festivals and venues to reduce their environmental Footprints now Reverb has green over 350 tours and 6 000 concert events eliminate 280 000 plus tons of CO2 emissions prevented the use of over 4 million plastic bottles and supported over 2 000 Family Farms and 4 000 non-profit organizations for a chance to win an eco-friendly Tesla Model X plaid go to omaze.com andysly and enter now donations support the amazing work of Reverb however the user interface is the exact same which is Tesla's proprietary software I'm a fan of Tesla's touchscreen and software for the most part but it's kind of a blessing and a curse the pros are that the touchscreen and software are extremely fast and snappy on this new model y as a result of the new AMD ryzen processor and Tesla does release software updates quite frequently that the car will automatically download and install for free now this allows the car to constantly improve over time and add cool new features but sometimes a new software update will change or remove a feature which makes it feel like two steps forward one step back for example the latest software update gave us a newly improved energy graph that provides more detailed information about energy usage along with tips to maximize efficiency which is great but they also recently removed the scrubber icon on the media playback along with removing the time remaining on a song or podcast and they also removed the single plus or minus settings for the fan speed and replace that with just a clunky scrubber which drives me nuts and Tesla does not have Apple carplay or Android auto so that is a big turn off for a lot of people especially Apple music subscribers but if your team Spotify like me then the Tesla touchscreen does have a built-in Spotify app that works fairly well even though that could still use some refinement for a better user experience which I'm sure Tesla is aware of and will continue to improve it over time but the biggest Advantage Tesla has in my opinion is their navigation and trip planner when it comes to software the 15 inch display is great for seeing a large GPS map and if you enter destination it automatically routes you to superchargers along the way which is a very seamless experience compared to other non-tesla EVS that are still more complicated when trying to plan charging stops on a long trip voice commands have also gotten way better compared to when I first got my model 3 the voice commands are a very convenient feature in a Tesla because you want to minimize using the touchscreen as much as possible while driving just to be safe speaking of which Tesla vehicles are known to be the safest in their class and the model Y is as safe as they come earning 5 star ratings and top safety picks in multiple countries and safety is such an underrated feature I honestly feel relief and don't worry whenever my wife travels with our daughter in the model y because I know that they're in one of the safest cars ever made now when the model y first came out over two years ago many people mentioned the stiffness of the ride and how it wasn't uncommon to notice small rattles and things like that I spent a week with one of these first model y's in 2020 and as an early model 3 adopter I can honestly say that the ride quality of the 2022 model Y is Leaps and Bounds better than the original first generation model 3s and model y's as a tall guy it's just much easier for me to get in and out of and a more comfortable ride on long drives compared to my model 3 which sits low to the ground and the double pane windows and 19 inch wheels result in a pretty quiet and soft filling ride I love driving it and the battery weighted distribution along the bottom of the vehicle give it a nice tight steering and it takes curves really well for how big the vehicle is now the suspension and handling feel great and even though this isn't a performance model this is still all-wheel drive so the 0-60 in under five seconds is quicker than probably 90 of the cars on the road that we encounter so it makes merging and passing effortless and it's just fun to have an SUV that is this quick plus autopilot is still the best driver assistance system available on any car in my opinion it uses the car's external cameras in conjunction with Tesla's neural network to keep the vehicle within the lane and maintain a set speed which is invaluable on long road trips it just provides an extra layer of security and reduces mental fatigue while driving now having said all that I will say this model y has one of the most annoying issues that my model 3 does not have and I don't think any other car at this price point should have it has a high pitch frequency winding noise coming from the rear motor this was actually the biggest problem we noticed when we first got the car and I took it to Tesla Service multiple times to get fixed first they added some foam insulation but that didn't help too much then they replaced the entire rear motor unit and even after that I can still hear an abnormal wind from the rear motor at certain speeds specifically between 40 and 60 miles an hour although it's not as loud as the wine on the original motor it is normal to hear The Zing of the motor when accelerating quickly in any Tesla but this is something that is beyond that I know it's abnormal because I've driven many other Teslas including my own model 3 and I have never heard or noticed anything like this before and although it's not super loud and it's not really noticeable when music is playing or the windows down for example the high frequency sound is irritating because it reminds me of a dentist tool that can be heard ever so slightly from a distance and I've heard others complain of this same problem in their model y so hopefully this is not too much of a widespread issue with the motors that Tesla is using but if you are getting a model y or any EV for that matter be sure to test drive it first and listen for this before taking delivery of the vehicle quite possibly the most important features of an electric vehicle are charging in range an EV needs to be able to cover quite a bit of distance on a full charge and also needs the ability to charge quickly on road trips now in my opinion a minimum of 300 miles range is a must this long-range model y has 330 miles of estimated range but that's based on an average of 280 Watt hours per mile which is a generous estimate based on ideal driving conditions our model y gets closer to about 300 watt hours per mile which means it uses slightly more energy than the EPA estimate and when the car is loaded with a lot of cargo or if we're driving in the cold it gets even worse efficiency and that's why I think range is still top priority when it comes to EVs and why I think 300 miles minimum is the way to go which this model white has and why we chose it over other EVS but of course possibly Tesla's biggest Advantage is its supercharging Network which includes over 35 000 fast charging stations and is the largest global fast charging Network in the world now you can pretty much travel anywhere in the country in a Tesla without worrying about where to charge in the newest V3 superchargers can charge at a rate up to 1 000 miles an hour and since all Tesla owners have a Tesla account with a credit card on file the active supercharging is extremely easy just plug in the cable and that's it no swiping or credit card or touching screens non-tesla fast charging stations aren't quite this seamless and are still more clunky to use but ninety percent of the charging we do is at home where it's as simple as plugging in the charging cable into the 240 volt Outlet in our garage which was already there for our model 3 and this by far is the easiest and most affordable way to charge it charges overnight when electricity is the cheapest and we wake up to a full charge every morning the Tesla mobile app also has a charging section and you can see we've saved almost a hundred dollars in gas over the last month so although supercharging is awesome and a great perk of owning a Tesla home charging is one of the best benefits of owning any EV there's obviously a lot to like about this car but there are some things I don't like which I'll briefly mention first although the fit and finish has greatly improved since I got my model 3 in 2018 it still has room for improvement I think Tesla absolutely should step up their quality control instead of trying to pump out so many vehicles I also hate how the wipers are forced to be set to automatic whenever cruise control is enabled I should be able to turn my wipers off or on manual setting instead of the car forcing me to use Tesla's neural network to decide if my wipers should be on because it's extremely annoying when I'm on autopilot or cruise control and my automatic wipers start wiping when there's no rain at all I also wish there was a power outlet in the back of the model y instead of just a 12 volt Outlet I also wish it had vehicle to grid technology like other electric vehicles have and I wish the prices had not increased so much other than those relatively minor complaints it's safe to say my wife and I are very happy with our decision of buying a model y before the big price increase it would definitely be a more difficult decision if we had to buy it at the current price but if you are like us and you value safety space seamless charging and software such as autopilot and it's probably worth it if you have the budget for it we love our model y especially for long family trips and plan to keep it for a very long time so let's hear from My Wife and see what she has to say about the model y hello welcome back to the channel you're you're a big hit last time so hey guys what do you love the most about the model y I love the space we can fit anything in here I love how smooth of a drive it is I take our baby everywhere in this car I feel very confident and safe when I take her all over town and Beyond I don't know all the fancy things and I can't navigate like all this stuff especially while I'm driving but I know the essentials part of it of course is watching you navigate it in both of our cars but it's come along quicker than I expected it to and that's been a relief too what are some things that you don't like right off the top of your head that maybe you I hate how narrow this back window is yeah oh my gosh out of the rearview mirror it is so stinking narrow like why do you have to have that bar there like structurally I'm sure you do but why does it have to be so thick I rely on the cameras and uh my side mirrors more way more than I'm comfortable with yeah that's where like the big touchscreen in the camera is coming to play because it has some really good high definition cameras our GPS navigation has been off but I think we got that fixed I think it was a software update issue and I think we fixed it pretty easily so that was good I love the comfort of the driver's seat hate the comfort of the passenger seat they got rid of the lumbar support and it really pissed me off because you love the lumbar sport I need lumbar support because my back is that's which is why we had to get this little lumbar pass this cushion situation and Andy hates it because he has a healthy back gosh yeah have you had any range anxiety when you're traveling to your parents I haven't had range anxiety because I know that I can plug in there overnight and thankfully there are a lot more superchargers around us charging is easy but for the most part we just start at home and like we've got used to we just share the charger between both cars which is it's worked out really well you have the Y serves as a commuter car for me because I mostly take short trips but it's certainly a road trip car for us when we're filming weddings or if we're going on vacation or going to visit family it served us well as both the commuter and a road trip and even though it is worse efficiency than my model 3 it's still not that much it has not caused too much range anxiety I feel like I've complained more than what I've talked about like what I like but like it can't emphasize enough the storage the front is amazing we literally changed Audrey's diaper in that multiple times you can throw an overnight bag well and also that sub trunk is yep it's very large and we can I mean yeah cooler our camera gear we've put down there like it's just how much stuff you can fit into this space is just one of the best features it is definitely one of the best features it's just a really good overall thing it's a great car I love it I'm still very grateful so we were looking we test drove some we were talking about other options and let's be clear this has always been my favorite car this one checked all the boxes like with the space and the range and I've loved it and I know that you've loved it so yeah I don't think we regret our decision it's an expensive car but like we plan to keep it for a long time this Peace of Mind of like having you guys in a safe car and like having this so much all the space for like trips has been I think it's validated our purchase yeah I agree I think peace of mind is kind of the perfect little Arc thank you we'll have to have you on again the people love you there it is oh bye bye
