all right well it's finally time for another road trip on the channel i know it's been way too long since we've been on a road trip but flights recently have just been crazy good so anyways what we're gonna do is i'm actually driving by myself which i'm not complaining about it should make this a pretty seamless drive we're going down to florida and the flights to get there were like 75 round trip which is absolutely insane so my wife the kids they're all flying and i'm gonna meet them down there so i've got all their bags in the car but it's just me in an empty car with luggage now one of the cool things on this trip i actually have a refrigerator with me so i've actually got it full of drinks i'll show that to you now so right here behind the passenger seat i've got a refrigerator and this thing is huge it holds a ton of drinks but it runs on 12 volts so it actually works really good i've used it a few times but this will be the first time i use it on a road trip but it's right where i can reach it and it just plugs into the 12 volt in the car which is really cool this can also be a refrigerator and freezer so there is a splitter that will automatically turn it into two zone but for this trip i just need the refrigerator and i have way too many drinks but i'm just glad to have it and what's nice is i can take this into the hotel room if i stop somewhere and keep it plugged in in the wall as well so looking at the trip we've got a pretty long trip ahead of us we've got a thousand fourteen miles to get there 17 and a half hours my plan is this so obviously their first stop is in louisville and it looks like a pretty long charge which is fine because i have a conference call about that time and my plan is to make it to florida if i can make it to lake city florida tonight which is right here as we get to the border then i only have like a couple hours to go to get to where i need to be so pretty excited this should be a pretty good trip i am so ready to finally get on another road trip so with that said i'm going to go ahead and unplug i've got 80 i should arrive in louisville with 16 and i'm supposed to be there for 40 minutes but we'll see about that i might change that up but anyways gonna go ahead and get unplugged 82 should arrive at 16 and about two hours in 20 minutes and again thanks to the sponsor of this episode squarespace connect arrived at the supercharger it is a brand new v3 here in louisville in a minor parking lot there's a tire shop and a burger king so that is all that's right here but this is brand new and what's crazy about this is they just got this other v3 on the north east side of louisville and this one in the middle has constantly had issues and it's just a b2 always been busy sometimes had issues so when this v3 up here opened up i was really excited but now this one is here as well and there's 12 stations v3 fantastic and this one is even more on the direct route coming through louisville so very excited about this let's get this plugged in and see what kind of charge rates we get we're supposed to be here for 40 minutes which is a long one but it is lunchtime so let's see what kind of speeds we can get up to now that last leg was 160.8 miles 52 kilowatt hours and 325 watt hour per mile which given the fact that it's really windy outside that's not too bad so i'm pretty happy with that so far hopefully this picks up from 30 because that will not do but yeah pretty decent leg now we're supposed to be here for 40 minutes and then we're headed to nashville and this nashville charger let's see if it's the v3 in nashville it might be that one is also the v3 i believe it's in like a kroger or just a grocery store parking lot but that is a bit of a ways away so a couple hours drive from here which is why it wants us to stay here for 40 minutes and i'm okay with it otherwise i would stop at bowling green but i am gonna get some food so i don't mind waiting just a little bit on this charging stop as long as this gets worked out because i'm not gonna sit here at 30 what is going on there we go something was wrong with that one i think it's one i think it's one d so something was wrong with that switch cabinets and were in business so there's a thousand miles an hour let's see if we can get 250 the magic 250 there it is 250 kilowatt charge rate oh i saw 251 so gosh i love seeing these super fast charging speeds that should pretty much be the peak right there and it's going to start to taper off here now as you can see it's starting to finally go down so you're only there for a split second but it's so fun to watch all right we're charged at 92 percent we have enough to make it let's see here should arrive in nashville with 14 and it says 170 miles 2 hours and 38 minutes so this is a bit of a longer stretch but should be pretty decent as long as construction is not too bad we should be doing just fine so i'm going to go ahead and unplug that total charging session although i can't tell you cost because it's just pulling my free charging we did add 62 kilowatt hours unplugging now [Music] all right so we made it and the sun is shining it is now 66 degrees even with that 342 watt hour per mile it's just so windy today and it's all a headwind so it's really killing our efficiency but nonetheless got here at 11 supposed to be here for 20 minutes now since we came in a little bit lower than anticipated this is a v3 charger we're going to be here for 20 minutes and then on to kimball tennessee and there is a kroger right here so restroom food stuff like that and there's also one of those outdoor gas stations so if you wanted to get some snacks or something there's also i believe a subway right over there somewhere so anyways gonna get plugged in use the facilities and get out of here all right so we're all charged up it's ready to roll it says we'll arrive at kimball with 19 and well now it's saying we saw five minutes but that's not true so all right 99 miles an hour and a half it has changed time on us so that's actually 508 pm and if we look at the rest of the trip it still shows florida again this is in central time it does this i really hate that it does this but that's actually 12 30 local time so it's still the target maybe not quite lake city but definitely the florida state line that's what my goal is tonight so i'm going to go ahead and unplug should be there at 22 now and uh that last leg was 174.4 miles 60 kilowatt hours 342 watt hour per mile thanks to the heavy winds hopefully those die down as we get through the rest of tennessee [Music] foreign [Music] all right well we made it to kimball tennessee in the middle of nowhere i say that but there's a walmart right there there's a chinese buffet there's a subway and a whole bunch of dining options including a couple of fast food options over there this is a v3 which is pretty awesome because this is all v3 so far let's go ahead and get plugged in and see what's up 100.3 miles 32 kilowatt watt hour hours mile it is now 62 degrees so it's nice that we're still above 60 but we may drop a little bit hopefully it holds on our way into georgia nice and quick ramp up that was really weird two cabinets did not work there's 255 i saw 255 that was fun the first two cabinets did not work i don't know what that's all about so this is actually a pretty good spot there's a cracker barrel right next to us which i know is very popular with a lot of you us included so you may plan for this this is a newer charger um the chattanooga charger used to be the only one in this area and that is not a very good charger but this i don't know how many stalls there are at least 12 or so 12 something like that let's see how many chargers do we have here 12 total stalls it does say one is out of order there's actually two of them not working so anyways uh 12 chargers here a ton of food options around here and then of course like i said a walmart in case you need to get any essentials so pretty good spot so far this trip has been going pretty well um we're going to be here for about 20 minutes and let's take a look and see how well we're doing so one of the things is our time is starting to slip we've lost about 10 minutes now on getting to this lake city florida stop again this is in central time still that is supposed to be 12 42 so we have lost a little bit of time which i'm surprised but there was a bit of traffic back there due to accidents and every time we get up in the mountains it seems like that is always the case if you do take this route frequently and you're going from nashville all the way over to chattanooga down into florida that route 24 is always always under construction this is the first time i think in my entire life i've gone down that route and it wasn't under construction so that's actually really cool it's almost like hey i think they're done working on the roads probably just a fluke but no construction anywhere the roads are freshly paved and that was the smoothest leg down 24 i've ever had so hopefully that becomes more normal but definitely helping out so anyways going to be here for 20 minutes like i said and then we'll head to marietta georgia and i think if i'm not mistaken that is the same one no it's not the same one i stopped at this is also a v3 you know what's incredible every single stop i've had today has been a v3 so let's see here and then our last stop in georgia is also a v3 that is pretty awesome i don't think this is a v3 no this is a v2 down in lake city florida that's the only non-v3 charging stop on this whole trip which is pretty awesome as v3s continue to roll out at record pace this is great news because this is only going to help speed up the trip so it says we've got 595 miles and 10 hours including charging to go of course i'm not gonna make it that far but if i can at least make it to this florida line somewhere i'm gonna look for a hotel with a destination charger and i might not have enough time here to look for it but at least when i get to georgia i'm gonna start looking for a hotel here with a destination charger somewhere around the georgia florida line so we're going to go ahead and let this thing charge up and we'll get moving all right and while we're here i got the refrigerator plugged in i've got to show you this is so cool so for this setup i have the 12 volt plugged into the center console here and i had to take the center console tray out for that plug to to fit because it sticks too far back but just have it plugged in it runs on 12 volts it is 60 degrees in there right now and i have it set to 35 i believe yeah so 35 we have uh 15 minutes left to charge so in that 15 minutes let's see how quickly this thing cools down so i do have it pretty full so it will take a little bit more time to get cool but that's okay let's see how well this works i don't know if you can hear how quiet it is but super quiet but it's nice because you can fit it right here behind the seat if you scoot this passenger seat forward just a little bit fits nicely on the floor it does not fit in the same spot in a model 3 by the way it has to go in the back but i'll show you in the back of this remove this bag out of the way your 12 volt is hidden right there so that's perfect for this thing now to have this refrigerator running it has to have air ventilation so if you do put it back here you can't put it in the sub trunk even though it fits unless you prop it up and allow good airflow because the compressor is on the side of it it may not even there we go so the compressor is right down there and it has to have good air flow so this is going to be a pretty awesome companion i probably could have done this earlier in the trip but we're also going to see if this has any impact on consumption the rest of this next leg shouldn't be too bad from the mountains perspective because we're past the mountains all right we have enough charge to go let's see here should arrive with 19 131 miles two hours and 12 minutes should be there about seven o'clock but i think that'll be more like eight o'clock so next up marietta georgia we're at 76 percent and we charge 43 kilowatt hours now onto the refrigerator it's already cooled it's that fast this little micro fridge is really crazy how fast it cools and i have it full on purpose just to show how quickly it cools off so i'm gonna get a drink and we're gonna hit the road for the next couple of hours to make it to georgia and then the never ending state of georgia [Music] all right we've arrived i can't really tell how much stuff is here but it looks like there's a few places i definitely see a subway but that's about it there are some stuff around that you might stop on your way in but 132.7 miles 42 kilowatt hours consumed 315 water per mile and the fridge is still rolling it shuts off and on and stays you know pretty low so doing pretty good didn't consume any noticeable energy so probably the equivalent of a couple of phones or ipads or something like that so let's get plugged in another v3 charger absolutely loving these speeds this has been so amazing i've never been on a road trip with this many v3 chargers so pretty awesome maxed out right away so it's supposed to be here for 30 minutes so i'm going to grab some subway because it's right there 30 minutes and then cordell georgia is the next stop and for some reason my clock still has not changed so it's actually eight o'clock at night not seven and we'll be at cordell at 10 30 not 9 30. so gonna go get a bite to eat and pick this back up all right so actually been charged up for a while now i was on the phone taking care of business but i did book a hotel so i'm actually gonna make it to tifton georgia which is as close to the florida line as i'm going to get tonight so it's about three hours to get here but you can see that gets me pretty close to this last supercharger stop that was on the way so a little bit north of valdosta but this is a three hour and six minute drive 195 miles with one stop in cordell georgia which is a v3 for 10 minutes this hotel i looked on plugshare has a tesla wall connector so i'm hoping that one of the two is still available they also have a j1772 as well so hopefully there's a charging option when i get there if not there is a supercharger in tifton that i'm aware of so worst case i'm not in a bad situation but if i can get charged overnight then i could possibly skip charging altogether i don't really know we'll just have to see so looks like i have 154 miles to go to the supercharger about two and a half hours be there at 10 o'clock which is actually 11 o'clock because my clock has still not changed which is really frustrating so it is about a quarter to nine not a quarter to eight right now so can i hit the road wrap this thing up [Music] do [Music] welcome to cordell georgia made it here to our final charge of the evening so only have to be here for like 10 minutes and still the clock is not changing it's really getting old but anyways let's get plugged in this is a v3 it's brand new so there you go 250 kilowatt charge rate we have literally charged on a v3 the entire trip and this is just getting amazing so this particular stop is there's a sonic right there a harvey's supermarket there it looks like a couple other places this is a brand new charger and on the way in you're actually maybe like half a mile from the highway so there are plenty of dining options on the way in here so even though it's a little bit farther away um that from the highway than being right off the exit there's a bunch of stuff to choose from on your way in so because of that makes it a pretty decent location so anyways we're only going to be here for like 10 minutes so we're going to wrap this up i'm gonna pick this back up at the hotel because we're only like 40 miles away let's take a look that leg was 156.1 miles 52 kilowatt hours consumed watt hour per mile i was using the heat a little bit off and on on that last leg we're back up to 55 degrees which is nice but we were getting down to the 40s so if we look at what we have left we've got 40 miles to go for the evening and we'll be there at 11 41 so that is going to be it for this evening so i will pick this back up here in a moment all right so there we have it 49 should be able to arrive with 31 i was catching up on a couple things so that took a little bit longer than i planned but anyways in this situation where you're going to a hotel and it has destination chargers don't count on them being available now in this case this supercharger is right next to the hotel so i don't need a whole bunch of buffer but you should plan for that in this situation so at your last charging stop have enough charge to run sentry mode overnight plus get to the next supercharger down the road and plan on being less efficient if everything is super cold in the morning so just a tip for you so 40 miles to go 36 minutes be there about midnight tonight 51 unplugging now so that was a quick little jump over here 40.6 miles 14 kilowatt hours 350 watt hour per mile which wasn't very good but the great news is i've got a wall connector both of the tesla wall connectors are available and over on this side there's a ge connector so i'm gonna get this plugged in just to make sure that it is working because that can sometimes indicate just in case we need to switch so there we go good start i heard it click now let's check out what kind of charging we're gonna get out of this thing looks like it's a 48 amp which is great voltage as usual a little bit on the low side but that's okay because this is going to charge pretty quick it says we can get to a hundred percent which is what my limit is set at in six hours and 15 minutes which is great but do not forget when you're on road trips if you do this drop down your charge limit to 80 or 90 i hate doing it on the screen do it in the app it's a lot easier to be more precise i'm gonna charge this to 90 percent so that way in the morning i can bump it up to 100 if needed but um let's see here so uh to get there about five hours okay so in the morning i'm either going to the hotel or i'm going to the airport i'm not sure which yet my wife will let me know in the morning so let's see i think they're terminal a let's see what we have left for this trip so it looks like if we left right now yeah let's remove charging stops just to see so we've got three and a half hours almost four hours to go actually so about four hours to go um 268 miles in the morning so i did not quite make it to the florida state line but i'm glad i stopped now because i'm not overly exhausted but i am tired and it's always better to be safe than sorry so i'm gonna let this charge and it looks like we will have to stop somewhere on the way down i'm gonna try to make it closer to orlando so one of these is hopefully a v3 there's one right there um okahumpka yeah okahumka that sounds like the place we're headed to in the morning so that'll give us really close and i can get a really deep charge when i'm there so when i pick them up we've got a bunch of juice to get us around uh in the meantime so with that i'm gonna go ahead and call tonight get some sleep and we'll pick this back up first thing in the morning well good morning i had such a great sleep last night it was one of those nights where i just laid down and i was out so i'm so glad i got some good sleep last night so this morning i opened the app and set the charge limit to 100 so i'm sitting at 94 right now and i'm going to try to make it to the airport by the time my wife and the kids land but it looks like i'm probably gonna be there after they land so i'm either gonna meet them there or i'm gonna meet them at the hotel so let's take a look at what we have left this morning so i have one charging stop and whether i go to the hotel or the airport it's the same travel time and the same route basically so one stop in gainesville it says for 25 minutes unfortunately gainesville is a 150 charger but it is a good location because there's a lot of stuff there but this is the first charging stop that will not be a v3 which is incredible so what an awesome trip it was on the way down so we have 150 miles to go two hours and for some reason my clock is still off by an hour so i don't know when that's going to get fixed but should be there about 10 30 not 9 30. i'm gonna unplug now at 94 thanks to the destination charger at the hotel [Music] made it to gainesville so we're here there's a couple of teslas here this is a very busy area so with it being v2 we really do need to go ahead and get plugged in 152.8 miles 52 kilowatt hours 338 watt hour per mile as you can see it started getting a little bit drizzly nice quick ramp up all right so we're supposed to be here for 25 minutes i might actually be here longer because our next stop is at the airport and then the hotel or just the hotel so i want to make sure i have plenty of charge i may even top off once i get down there i don't know i haven't really thought through it completely but i don't want to get down there and have no charge left so we'll see this is a dangerous charger um there's a lot of options here but let's see if i can there's a yeah that's a problem i spend too much time in there and that being right here is too convenient so anyways let's let it charge it does say high usage supercharger so we are limited to 80 and that's probably what i'm gonna charge it up to even if we're done sooner than that so we'll let this thing charge and hit the road as soon as that's done all right so here's the update i am at 68 i am gonna go ahead and unplug i found a v3 in winter garden so i'm gonna go straight to that and i'm gonna top this thing off that'll be about 20 miles from the hotel so i'm gonna go ahead and unplug at 68 miles this leg was 152.8 with 52 kilowatt hours 338 watt hour per mile so i've got 96 miles to go an hour and a half be there about 12 45 about 12 45 still my clock is off [Music] all right so i had to change things up i did go ahead and stop a little bit earlier at this v3 charger in okahumka florida i guess anyways as you can see a lot of the chargers closer to a destination are full so we're gonna stop here for just a little bit to top off and then i do need to make it to the airport i did just get the call so i'm gonna be here for just a short bit and then it looks like 20 would be arrival now so i'm probably going to add another 20 or so we'll just see how quickly it charges i'm pretty high state of charge for a v3 but let's get it plugged in and see if we can top this thing off a bit so that way i can pick everybody up from the airport and we can get to the hotel oh my goodness so much flip-flopping so much back and forth we're actually not headed to the airport now we're gonna head straight to the hotel so i was able to get everything reconfigured so this is what it looks like two car seats next to each other and a small spot here for a passenger it's because i have all the luggage in the back so with that um i can't use the third row with all that luggage so until we get checked in and get everything out of the car this is how we're going to cruise around so i am finishing up charging and i'm going to have plenty of charge once we get there to be able to get around and not worry about charging for a bit so let's take a look and see what's up so i'm at 95 charge and i will arrive at 73 which is a healthy charge to get there so i've got 53 miles 55 minutes be there about two o'clock and that last leg was 66.7 miles 21 kilowatt hours and 309 one hour per mile i finally got the clock to work and it was a trick i had to look up so for those of you who are traveling state to state if your time does not switch back over if you press and hold it it will automatically update so for about three seconds i press and hold and then it finally reset so that's how you do it so anyways i'm gonna go ahead and get unplugged and finish this trip get to the hotel i'm hoping our room is ready by the time i get there in about an hour we'll see um [Music] all right so we made it to old key west let's take a look at how we finished up that final leg was 54.3 miles 16 kilowatt hours consumed 302 watt hour per mile so for the whole trip 988 and a half miles 324 kilowatt hours consumed and 328 watt hour per mile so for this trip i have one stop off and let's get this all flipped around here so on tuesday i'm actually going down here to meet with the team at ev annex and that's going to be a lot of fun throughout the week we're going to be at the parks and then on friday or saturday i'm going to make the journey back home so but i don't want to talk about that right now we just got here it's vacation time and it's time to enjoy so i hope that you enjoyed this video if you did of course give it a thumbs up if you haven't already of course subscribe to the channel as we continue to post content regularly you can follow
