Hello and welcome. We are so pleased that you
can join us today. With DSM 7 on the horizon, we’ve got some really exciting new
developments we want to share with you. At Synology, ensuring that your data is completely
private and securely stored is at the heart of our products. This becomes especially important when
talking about your personal pictures and videos. These could be selfies with your best friends,
precious memories of you and your family or professional photography
work of beautiful scenery. All of these important photos have to be stored
securely. However, this is not the only important factor when it comes to photo management. When
managing your photos you need the right software in order to upload them either via phone or
laptop, sort your photos and create albums, or work on a photography project
and share it with others. These are only some of the reasons why
half of all Synology users are already using photo management applications. Therefore,
we can say that photo management is one of the favorite features of Synology products. Before
we talk about the specifics of Synology Photos, let’s take a second and look at how
Synology’s photo management software started. In 2007, we introduced Photo Station for users
to manage and share their photos and videos. Photo Station is a folder-based management
software with integrated permission settings and link protection options when sharing
photos and videos. Hence, it provides the perfect photo management environment for power
users and even professional photographers. But shortly after the Photo Station released,
the era of the smartphone began. Photography habits ever since have completely changed.
But mostly with regards to the everyday user. That is why in 2017, we launched Moments
for more personal use case scenarios. The typical Moments user is someone who likes
to take pictures with the smartphone, wants a backup and a convenient interface to share albums
or pictures. Therefore, Moments provided facial recognition features, presented pictures in a
convenient timeline mode and made creating albums very easy, on both desktop and mobile devices.
But this also means that up until now we have had two great solutions for two different target
groups. Over the years we have increasingly noticed that Synology users wish to enjoy the
functions and benefits of both applications. And today we’re introducing Synology Photos —
a brand-new photo management package designed for you. This amazing new package unifies both
applications by combining the popular functions of Photo Station and Moments with new features
and a new interface design. For newcomers, Synology Photos will be the software that fulfills
all photo management needs. For existing users, files and folder structures will be migrated
automatically to Synology Photos offering the benefits of both previous applications. This
way we can ensure the best user experience for both parties. To us, the best user
experience means making the software as convenient as possible. This starts at the
very beginning — with the upload of your data. Synology Photos comes with a brand-new mobile app where we can easily upload all of your photos and videos.
It also provides a much faster upload experience now. When uploading from your
mobile device, you can enable thumbnails to be generated on the client side, potentially
making the process 100x faster than before. This of course, is not only limited to smartphones
but also applicable when uploading from any other client. Furthermore, you will never have to worry
about accidentally deleting or losing a picture ever again. Because with Synology Photos you can
automatically back up your entire photo gallery. With customizable backup options,
Photos gives you additional flexibility in deciding how you manage your storage.
After uploading your pictures to Synology Photos, you are given the perfect tools to easily manage
your entire photo gallery the way you want to. Similar to Moments, you can enjoy the ease of
browsing through all the different memories you have captured - and by default it
organizes your photos chronologically. However, if you would like to manage your
pictures through different folder structures and browse them in a traditional folder view, like back in Photo Station, you can
switch between timeline and folder view. But Synology Photos is so much more
than simply uploading and browsing through your photos. It lets you relive your
memories by automatically creating albums. These albums can be based on your friends and
loved ones recognized by the AI, places you have visited, or tags that you came up with.
Additionally, you can create your own albums. Let’s say you want to create a family
album. By setting specific conditions, Synology Photos can sort all pictures with
the recognized family members into your album. It also automatically adds pictures that you
might upload to Synology Photos in the future. In essence, Synology Photos again combines
the features of Moments and Photo Station to provide you with a more fluid
and flexible management system. Another highlight of Synology Photos
is professional collaboration. In a matter of seconds you have shared
the recently created family album with one of your family members. If they
don’t have an account on your Synology NAS, no problem, just send them the
link and you’re good to go. Besides creating and sharing albums, Synology
Photos also offers a more professional approach. This becomes increasingly important when you and
your colleagues are working on a specific project. Some projects you might even want to share with
your customers. In these scenarios, Shared Space is the perfect solution for you. It enables a
more professional shared folder environment. As the admin you can enable Shared Space for
other users. It facilitates easy sharing of different project folders. Another great aspect of
Shared Space is that it comes with comprehensive permission settings in order to customize
your experience with Synology Photos. For more private projects, you can even
set up a specific password for folders to make sure that the content is secure, no
matter if shared internally or externally. For instance, let’s share the travel shooting
folder with one of our customers to collect feedback. We can set the share link to public with
the right to view the pictures. On top of that, we configure a password to increase security.
Here, we see the customer opening the link, and after entering the password, the customer is
now able to view the pictures and give feedback. Have you ever searched for this
one particular picture and you had to browse through your entire
gallery to find this one picture? If so, let me introduce you to
Synology Photos smart search filters. With Synology Photos search filters, you can
easily find the pictures you’re looking for. You’re able to apply filters based
on facial recognition, location or the year it was taken, and you
can even chain them together. For instance, you want to find all the photos you
took during a road trip with your best friends. Simply apply certain filters and as you can see,
Synology Photos shows you all the memories you were searching for. Also, for professional
use cases, this feature is incredible. The photographer can instantly filter his
gallery or folders based on the metadata. Take lenses, exposure time, or aperture for
example. Professional users can then compare the effect of different camera settings,
enabling them to quickly find the best shot. Here we have a final overview of all the
discussed highlights of Synology Photos. Firstly, smart upload with ultra-fast
thumbnail generation and an automatic backup. Secondly, simple management of albums and folders. Then we’ve got professional collaboration for
easy sharing and working together on projects. And finally, smart search filters to swiftly
find the pictures you are looking for. These were only the main highlights, and there
is still so much more for you to discover with Synology Photos — the photo
management package designed for you.
That sounds promising. At first I was afraid that this would be a third photo solution after Photo Station and Moments, but a new app that combines and replaces the two is great.
I am testing it in virtual machine.
Some things looks promising, like folder management, but... some issues, that i came up.
Now some good things,
And still no partner library
I just updated my NAS with DSM 7. But I don't have the facial recognition anymore in Synology Photos.
Can someone help me?
Is it worth it to update to a beta version? I really want to test it but don't want to install a beta version and risk losing my files, have you encountered any glitches so far?
What do they mean they dropped “results of face recognition (people tags)”?
it's all about the hair style
Zero word about object recognition?
Seriously?
when will this be available?
