[Music] you good morning oh I love it you guys are so so happy today and ready to go huh well we're going to do stars today you excited about stars today okay well I'm gonna show you this star okay first of all this is the first star that we're gonna show you you guys recognize this one this is from fly flying geese right and I always refer to this as a perky star right is that a perky star very perky good very perky so I'm kind of equating it to some underwear that we have you guys already know what I'm gonna do look at this is this perky somebody sent this to me and I just don't get it there's no way I could fit into this but if I could I'd be perky huh well I have a different kind of star to show you today mmm this is gonna be good so I guess I should just toss this off the set get rid of that one we don't want the guys to look at it huh so these are the kind of stars that I'm going to show you today wow these are really long and perky huh so that you could just go ahead and give these a spin any way you want so I have the perfect underwear to match these starts are you ready can you imagine what this is gonna look like if they don't get embarrassed ready let me look here we go here it is [Laughter] really perky down there huh I guess this is what happens to us for 42d and then suddenly we look and we're 42 long let's see they're really perky on the end see how perky they are you could give them a good spin in these dazzle everybody mostly a female okay you do one man you do one that would be really good so maybe I need to take these and get those off the set - we'll put them over by Orion he'll really enjoy those well we have some great quilts to show you they have all those perky points on them really long perky points and I'm going to ask Kareem to out come and help me today and this is our out-of-town guest she took a class from Patti I've been in Antelope Valley okay we're gonna have to give you that handheld mic okay so Teresa you want to give her that gether the handheld and Patti took her quote with her so you get to see all new ones Teresa made this one so what I want you to do is grab hold of the corner we're gonna lift it high and you guys are gonna go mmm good we're practicing ready up and Adam it's pretty very pretty isn't it actually Teresa made this one and now you're gonna take it from me Oh Brian can see it and everybody out there watching the webinar can see it so isn't that beautiful um Teresa did this one and she worked with a package of five-inch charm squares it's all the stars are from one charm square Pat oh really and she went and she purchased actually she didn't purchase it she put it on the account we don't know who pays the account but she put it on account and it has one background and then it has lattice and corner stones and a border around the outside edge is that beautiful or what that's very very nice good so oh yes you want to see the back looks like it was edge to edge quilting what do you think edge to edge because it's just beautiful swirling swirling it's this whirling star now it has a name that one's beautiful alright so then we did this one so that's the one setting with the lattice and the corner stones and now we get to hold this one up okay hold it back there hold it back there that one is also from a charm pack and you guys know which charm pack it is tell me it's Ellie and it's Ellie and Teresa made this one also there's 16 stars and it four across for down solid squares in the center and then framed with a second color in the side and corner triangles around the outside and then a strike but notice that the swirling stars notice the background around the stars their prints they were also all from one charm pack so it was a charm pack that had a lot of lights in it and a lot of mediums and darks and that's what made this star that pretty okay one more you can if you guys are showing it then you guys have to go back there okay this one I did I wanted to be wild and crazy with all of the beautiful bright colors and what's really fun about this one is that it was all from scraps except the side and corner triangles and I cut it I cut this all the star points from Kylie's kite scraps which I'm gonna show you later how many of you ever heard of Kylie's kite yay go through all the same scraps I do huh and then I put rickrack and buttons around the outside edge and I thought it was really fun is it pretty all the back so I just used all of my leftover stars and put it on the back that's great keeps on going getting used up it's used up okay so now we get to see greens group and their quilts okay come on ladies we have Kay Kathy oh did you chicken out back there and Roxanna and now we have all of your quilts and if you would like to share them with us and she'll okay Kathy oh you can put them right here give them a spin Kathy yes yes and that's all there further you go yes and I didn't have enough contrast in my blocks and so I started taking them apart and I start to back out this morning coming okay so let's start here right in the end and if you want to Teresa to help you show your quilt whoa hold it up high wanted to be patriotic and then added the gold buttons to bring the gold in from the blue really really nice five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen thirteen stars so did you do 13 stars for any special girl 13 original colonies 13 original colonies perfect I really love your black oh my baby boy Davey blue but she fussy cut flags in cornerstones is that good I love it and stars are quilted in the side triangles that's beautiful and just a little oh that's more stars and it's all stars as beautiful and show the back the stars I got a very good machine quilter but at least you can see the stars on some of it this was a pasta potty time so they were really testers okay so now this is Ches oh look what you did kay I had about ten squares and yesterday I was putting them all together and we had a windstorm and lost power about six times during the day this is as far as I got I heard there were 40 mile an hour winds out there oh we had 70 and you all need a treadle sewing machine in your home you never know a treadle sewing machine but that's very different you put the you framed the Stars so that's really cool I really like that one doing different settings that's what we were hoping for all right and so Roxanna oh pretty this this quilt the charm pack had a lot of mediums so I didn't quite get the right contrast but I went without anyways and I figured I'd fix it on the next one but that's really interesting your Stars look entirely different I'm going the opposite direction that most of them usually backwards no I really like that Roxanna so I didn't get the borders on yet but I'm working on it that's beautiful thank you so what I'm going to show you today is like the turquoise and like she has a black with almost every one of our green and black and it makes a completely different looking star that is great thank you I love it oh whoa this was made by Patty King she lined it the backing is minke so she could make it into a baby crow Oh show the back that is beautiful that is beautiful so all of you have you saw the first one of Teresa's which was considerably larger but they're really nice but the 13 stars - what do you think and you'll get it done Kathy you will yes yes yes you have to keep power you just have to be persistent well I have all my things laid out you want to see it yeah let's see how to do it yeah did you get your pattern are you excited there's a template inside you love it ooh I love it when you talk that way huh cool well most of them have been coming from a charm pack and so I'm just gonna finish up these are all of my stars my swirling stars came from this charm pack with the background I'm going to put that on the ground so that one works really good so let's just go ahead open your pattern Patti um Teresa's is on the front and the first yardage that you see is for the Square quilts the square quilt with the solid square setting and that's this one the pink one is on the the back and then on the right side you see the lattice and cornerstones quilt the 13 block is like the two girls just showed you with the 13 blocks and lattice and corner stones and Teresa's is on the cover with 39 blocks 39 bucks and the difference is for the 13 blocks you can actually get a charm pack of 40 squares and particularly this one with Eliane you have such a great mix of light and medium and dark and because you have light medium and dark you can take both parts of your star from one charm pack let's just say you could take this light one and put it together with a darker darker pink one right like that and you knit you use up most of it if there's 13 blocks all we have to do math 13 bucks you only need to have one of each of these for a star so 13 and 13 are 26 and you even have more leftover how about that you could start your second one with that that works good so that's one way you can do it or on this one this charm pack is nearly all dark it's nearly all medium and dark so what we did was go into that great store you know and love as I said we said put it on my account I love that just put it on my account and then and then they tell me that the accountant does pay for it it gets paid for in my name I guess Oh so anyhow that's the the couple of different ways that you can go and I want to show you how to just cut once one one star I'm on page four so keep on turning over page four looking good and so I'm gonna pick out one one charm pack one from here who I love the one in the top how about the red go with red I always feel powerful when I wear red so this one I'm feeling really good so I'm gonna take one one from my charm pack and since we have mostly medium and dark I have a five inch strip that I'm just going to go ahead and cut a five inch square from so it's really fast and easy okay take off your salvage get rid of it line up your five inch square and just cut a layer cut that I'm gonna just cut one okay so that's all I need from that one and I realize I have to keep my table clean right my table gets so messy so I'm just gonna peel off one of these like that and get rid of this one okay so now we're gonna take the dark we have a five-inch charm pack so all I want to do is take my five inch square and cut it in half okay so now I have two they would be right side up if you're going to do a whole stack they're all right side up okay so you have that good now I have two and a half by five gonna stack these pieces both right side up and I'm going to cut consistently in one direction so you just take your ruler and this is really good for right-handed cutting and just cut it like that and now I have how many in that stack and how many points are there per star four is that good so did Kathy say hers were spinning in the opposite direction patty must have told me about you so there's a little box right underneath if you cut the opposite direction they're going to spin in the opposite direction but it doesn't matter as long as you have electricity you can get your Stars sewn together okay so this is what I have they're all right side up now so I'm just going to take a stack one stack like that and take the second stack put it on top there all right side up and look at this now I'm just gonna turn it like that and that's already page five am i doing good excellent excellent I love these long perky ones I feel good at my age it's so funny it's just so funny to think about okay it's a quarter-inch seen I've got my red thread on so you just take the light on the and flip it right sides together you flip it right sides together and this is what's cool you have to have a really long skinny tip hanging out at the top okay at the top and then it's the opposite it's the same thing and that's what's really important and when we want you to really look at it we draw a little circle around it and enlarge it pretty soon my whole pattern is going to be like that little circles within large pieces but doesn't that help that really helps that's Marit Marit does all of that we're gonna do a what yeah extra-large type I know I agree with that I think that would be really good okay so now I'm all I'm only gonna make four of these points I'm going to show you one but if you were making a whole quilt you would probably have a stack of these and you would be Assembly lining am i right so this is what's really cool this is the fastest star this side of the West this this side of the West the side of Texas whatever it's fast so take a guess how long do you think it takes to make one star no I'm not that good it takes me 12 minutes 12 minutes okay so then just go ahead whoops my set is falling apart got my triangle down here okay one more and Theresa you're going to step in and you're gonna press for me so oops first she's done cleanup is that okay okay so you always take it like this and I want to press to the dark so you just drop it on there whoops and now we change the scene and so now you put dark on the top set of set the seams with dark on the top and then you open and you press towards the dark okay let's so let's move that there can you see it okay this thing so that's good and will you cut them apart for me Thank You Teresa Patty's out of town and Sue had other things to do so the half rectangle ruler yes included in your package so I recommend from the start you put in visit grip on both sides of the ruler because we're going to square these up one way but if you're like Kathy maybe you screwed up and did it the opposite way but it's not a screw up it's just another way of doing it right oh is Roxanna let's keep this straight this he hoes Roxanna now now what did Cathy tell us she said she did something too slow no contrast take it apart okay so I made mine visit grip a little bit smaller there's an extra quarter inch on all sides can you see the invisible so if you don't know how to work within visit rip it's paper side and then this this sticky stuff and I was just pretending I'm going to tear it and that releases the plastic it looks like the plastic that our mothers used to put on there lovely tablecloth remember that oh my gosh they put all that plastic on and then you had to wipe the plastic so now it's on both sides of my template and this is the cool part oops we'll look at it right-side up so it says half rectangle quilt in a day and this is exactly the way I'm going to cut this particular one Oh turnable it's making sense hallelujah I think the best thing that you can do for this quilt is to put a fresh blade in your cutter because you're going to do a lot of squaring up and you don't want to struggle with a blade that's been in there for a year right and they really lies to go ahead and replace it but what's unique about this is that you have from the corner about an eighth inch seam on the bottom and at the top and so whenever you sew this patch together you're going to have all perfect points okay so I start first hold it down and go back go forward go across headed to sides you just take your hand off you don't even struggle you just swing it around hold it down and cut the last two sides there now what do you think looking good so see you have that seam right there the eighth inch seam there and there so now I'm going to just pick them up this is when I power so and I will tell you that I do not really enjoy squaring up but whenever I sew my blocks together I am so happy because everything is perfect so at this time I just try to figure out okay this is only gonna take me so many minutes to do I actually hate unloading the dishwasher that was my least favorite thing but I figured out that it took me about seven minutes to do it so now I just stand there and go okay in seven minutes I'm gonna be done with all of this so you can do it right so that's the same thing with the with squaring it up but you know it's cool if you just break it up you might do so many give yourself a reward go have a piece of chocolate and then walk back and do squaring more squaring up until you have it all completely done so this is just about one block I wish I were doing this in real time I'm going kind of slow because I'm talking but when I'm doing it by myself I'm doing pretty good so what do you think from one little five inch square one little five inch square and so now let's just go ahead and turn the page peep so now we've got it I'm gonna take and stack up all four like this one two three four enough for one star take this get rid of it and now enters in the second size of piece this is a two inch strip two inches and you can layer cut and they should all be right side up so you know what if they have to be right side up why don't you just go ahead and open them actually it doesn't really matter Oh doesn't matter they're the same thing what am i thinkin I just get a little stressed and I forgot okay so I'm Gus Claire off this end and we're going to cut these into three and a half inch pieces they're two by three and a half for each star you need only four of them good I'm stripping again I've got to get over this stuff off the table over I know get after me okay so now I have my stack of four right beside it skeezy okay so now just flip it right sides together I feel like I'm barreling right into this okay so just line the edges up use your stiletto natch at the top and at the bottom quarter inch seam no scant quarter because if you do a scant quarter on this you won't end up having that perky point in your seam and you really want it on right just go ahead keep on an assembly line sewing one after the other just charge right through this is a patch that you have seen before we did it last year and Teresa maybe you can come and you can show everybody I want them to see the Christmas wall hanging over the Christmas wall hanging do you remember when we did this one this is the same ruler it would be really good it's the same ruler and now that you have your ruler you might wanna buy the pattern good idea where could we give that battered thank you for asking I thought you can get it right here at Wilton today but it's really fun I have this hanging up it on for Christmas and it was really fun all right cut the threads so I have all four tada okay so now I'm just gonna put it on the pressing mat for Teresa with the light side up and light side up and she's just gonna run right through set all the seams who do do to do now open them up and so I just do all these long look how cool very perky very nice huh very perky okay and I'll let you okay give them to me you gonna cut them yeah okay you cut him okay cuz I'm gonna lay out my star we're we're rockin and a-rollin okay so now turn the beige beep how do you like the paper it's really nice huh it's very adorable I think I got one of those amazing things I have a double book to where they are they all double books oh okay so I'm on page eight and this is the patch that I just did and look at the seam allowance right up there see really good okay so I'm going to take the second one this is going to be like magic turn this around the other way and when you look in the center you just go I don't know there's those little eighth inch seams all in there how's it all going to work so don't worry flip it right sides together I'm gonna do vertical rows do to do to do to do okay so you just flip it right sides together no pins I think that's what people get amazed the most that I'm not gonna be using any pins and it's gonna be beautiful in the end okay so just line it up needle down use your stiletto however you don't use pins use your stiletto and just hold this seam flat so you can go right over it pull both seams flat and my I have that automatic pivot when I stop my foot just jumps up and so I can tuck that seam right underneath that's my baby lock for the love okay so I'm going to the second one [Music] and don't cut it apart right here she says she's gonna take my book I think I put one down here I like that special bug it had a second one stapled right in here did anybody get a special one just me okay so here I am right here like this I'm not going to clip this connecting thread I'm just gonna open it up and look at this all right you can go real close see how it all intersects so now and I flip it the other way this is important you push this top seam up and the underneath seam down top seam up underneath seam down are you spellbound the swirling star the more I did this I decided I really liked it it's so much fun because I end up having just pieces of charm squares all the time don't you end up with little pieces of charm squares even just making one little star it'd be really cute you could turn it into a mud rug just put a little bit of border around it and it'll be really cute okay down hold it on I get to look first I have to see if I'm gonna show you look at that if it weren't good I would go oh but it's good huh okay so now let's look at this thing right in here right in the middle because I want to make this Center flat whenever you touch it then it's just all this bulky stuff really you can see how bulky it is so this is our magic swirling and it's really good if you use a seam ripper right now because the first thing you have to do is just cut that connecting thread there's just this little connecting thread remember I went straight down and I didn't cut it in the middle okay so now I'm only gonna deal with what's inside this seam did I show this to you before but in this class in the webinar I don't think so so see it's gone now okay so if you've seen it before I would just appreciate if you show your amazement anyways right so that's gone now lay it flat [Music] from the wrong side squirrely whirly swirly whirly so go to the right down over and up and when you do that that starts to open the center and the whole Center opens up right in the middle and you mush it really good ok and now you look at it from the front side and now you see yes so see it looks so good on the front side and then all you do is just turn it over and wish it good perfect don't tell anybody they think I'm this quiet lady on PBS huh didn't we do good so how long did it take well not long it's only halfway into it so what we started doing was making all of these swirling stars out of that one charm pack pretty good but so I'm gonna give these to Theresa and let her play with them and see if she can lay out some of that um some of the different patterns but look yeah which one do we want to put up on the design well maybe with solid squares okay solid squares lay some up with solid squares now this is what's really fun because you can do that swirling star but look there's alternate blocks that you can do to see like this but now this time you have to put the background on this side like this and then there's a second one that you can do see how many different ones so now this is the alternate of that one and this time you put the background on the opposite side so no matter how you cut it whatever your triangle end up going whichever direction you can still so this background strip to the opposite side and you can still make a block so nothing's wrong so aren't they cute they're very very cute very very cute okay alternate blocks okay now let's just turn the page we have to go over to where Teresa is going to lay out her blocks on page 14 so go to 14 and they are two different sized squares a ten and a half for the side triangles and a six inch for the corner triangles and so whoops my mother's not quite long enough but we'll just lay it out like that I do let me use my big triangle one I got a six by 24 okay I'm going to show that other one next I'm gonna show that next Orion um I got so many things okay so this is my ten and a half inch square so I'm just cutting it on one diagonal and then turning it and going in the other and so how many triangles do I have four okay and on your 6-inch bears you're only going to cut it once so they go in the corners but see the bias is now on the inside the bias the straight edges is gonna be around the outside edge okay this looks good okay and this one there you go so put it around and so basically out of this charm pack I did get on three basic colors I got pink blue and green so since we needed sixteen I did four four four four times three times whoops my math was off no wonder we didn't have enough we needed five that's what we were trying to get 5 times 3 is 15 but she could make one more of any color right good that I knew I had my math weird okay so you can finish saying that one out and I want to talk to you about this huh yes she's gonna do the triangles yes okay she's coming she's coming that looks good it's good that Theresa knows how to put these up this month huh last last month we were really confused poor Theresa that's looking pretty so straight so said you can switch the colors around any time but that looks really good this is with the 1300 16 oh no not again we're just gonna let her put in my pouch you likes them that's good that's good and do you have the little on corners okay I'm gonna come and hold these for you Theresa okay here's the corner this morning yep that's the 6-inch that's a little bit smaller and see how there's actually they're a little bit larger so that you have these tips hanging out on ends and then you can just square them up that's looking good yep okay so cross we came a couple more triangles that's good all right okay that's good so just divide it into diagonal rows if you look in your book when you sew them together you do diagonal rows like this and so you can really see yeah this is this is really good and see how you just cut off your tips I circle a circle all right so those are scrappy what do you think about scrappy you like that scrappy I'm gonna I'm gonna show you in just a minute I like scrappy too I really like this crafty for you you're just so picky here orange and yellow but that one in that one's gonna really sharpen it up what do you think she's grabbing everything you like scrappy well all you have to do is you have to cut up you know cut up all of your pieces all of your five inch and whenever you make these units just put together a different color that looks really good I like it very very nice you better talk in the microphone are you hearing are you hearing her out there in cyberspace any okay honey are good I always like to lay it out and then you can play place your colors whatever you want you know I know there's several there but but then what Theresa did we didn't divide out the yardage but notice the one on the left has the nine solid squares in the center one color and then the side and corner triangles our second color around the outside edge so that looks good very nice that's that's really good and this one does have a stripe fabric and it is mitered around the outside edge and stripe for the binding cute this one is really easy it's easy to lay together and it goes really quick okay so what do you think should she take this down yes I like it should she take this one down and lay out with lattice and corner stones let's see that one okay but I'm going to work while she gathers off that one and then lays out lattice and corner stones okay so I showed you with the charm pack that's pretty easy to do your five inch squares but how many of you have like chunks of layer cakes sitting around yes see you always end up with a couple of pieces but look what you can do you can go ahead and just take your layer cake and I have a light and a dark you could separate them or you could just go ahead and and stack at least to get the five inch squares so now all you have to do is just divide this one into five inch squares and I'm going to pull out this one for the second part of it so that's pretty easy right so you can just use utilize what you have hanging around and no we have four five inch squares that's easy I cut a light at the same time halfway through and there's just two there's four pieces that I have to cut out of this and what size are they do you remember two inch two inch by three and a half so you can just go ahead and cut cut one of the background that's not bad for waste what do you think and then just go this way and cut three and a half inch and a half I love it I love using pre cuts because I love the variety I you know I've I've done the lines I've worked with the lines of fabric and I know how many hours you sit and sit and you labor and you think about pieces that are all gonna go together and so why do you have to rethink it just get one that's all cut in the package because even if you have scraps think how long it takes you to gather up all these different scraps you should see my sewing room that's exactly what I was doing it's a total mess so once again this is all you need for one star you need five-inch dark five inch light and four two by three and a half easy so that's one way and then it's the jelly rolls the jelly rolls that are laying around this one I'm going to show you in just a minute this one was on my table for about a year and I just kept on looking at and looking at it going oh my gosh I just I just got to do something with that so I have a couple of my darks all stacked up and all I'm gonna do is just square the left end okay and then you go right for the chase now these are tuned no no I'm making a star two and a half by two and a half by five two and a half by five and see that's your five inch square ah good it's good and then you just use these you cut them on one diagonal and that's your star points out of a layer cake so now you might have a whole bunch of Lights laying around for your background so you can go ahead and all you have to do is cut your two two and a half by five ice I was so excited because whenever I cut my layer cake up or my deli roll up it just went so fast because it was kind of all determined this is again two and a half by five two and a half by five and then actually what you need to do with the rest of your jelly roll is sliver trim this into a two inch strip can you do that so you just take your two and a half inch strip and cut it back to a two and a half to a two inch trim it that's what you've taken away my floor is gonna be an absolute mess okay and then just go ahead and cut these into three and a half see you guys are gonna have this all memorized by the time you go home and then I just cut the whole way on if you a half light strip is enough to make one star a half of a light strip is enough and that's your pieces all out of a jelly roll so you can do charm packs layer cakes jelly rolls all leftovers and then pick up your background oh look this is good so this is really nice so she turned the blocks all on point and she's got a lattice beside each one of them and look at this this is gonna be dynamite little charm squares going in here different settings I think that looks pretty it's very nice um these are two just little two and a half and your picture shows how you take it and divide it in two rows oh she's got her triangles on page ten okay on page ten it shows you to divide it into diagonal rows and so your lattice on opposite sides of your diagonal rows and then you start to write here your lattice goes on opposite sides and then you assembly line so your cornerstones onto your lattice and make rows long enough to go on either side of your diet diagonal wrist oh that's pretty so it is directional on the outside that looks really pretty now which one are we going to take huh then the size goes to the side and the top and bottom goes to the top and bottom of your square is that make sense that's this right here on page 11 if this were all stripes then it's just this goes at the top and the bottom and this goes on the sides so the the stripe will work and that's that one right there direction and this is Patty's quilt right here that she took with her very pretty on page 13 so let's clear this table and I want to show you what else so I had my layer cake there my jelly roll I had my jelly roll that I kept on going what am I gonna do with this what am I gonna do and so this was the little quilt that I sat and I made on Saturday [Music] you love it this is for my this is for my log house and Julian and it's all and I told Jonah twas for her too because she likes reproduction she said get out you really weren't thinking about me but I was Joan the whole time I was thinking about the reproduction fabrics for it and I gave a Therese on Sunday Monday she did a little stitch in the ditch quilting on it very very simple and it made it nice and she machine sewed on the buttons we have a little foot on our baby lock that you can machine sew the buttons so it was really fun but what was really nice about the vertical rows like you see here when you do that swirling and you swirl your seams on the back when you put rows together like this then the blocks always lock together the seams always lock together right here so that it's not hard to get it you know all lined up so it's very very fun and did you get a special sheet no oh everybody I thought you guys were all you were passing out your patterns in the beginning I thought you're getting that bonus sheet would you like a bonus on how to make this well it's a bonus that I printed out for you but it's a bonus that's now on the website right now so you can go home but you can all look at it and again I just my lattice see my four lattice it was just a strip of about 35 inches from jelly roll and the top and the bottom a jelly roll let's strip and look at the binding guess what it was a jelly roll or the two and half inch strip there's only about three pieces left of that jelly roll now and I'm very happy because now I can I am I'm so excited so now I'm gonna hang this in my log home but see this is different I wanted to read binding but I said no I got a stick to my rules I have to use my jelly roll and so I did the light binding this time that's okay huh yeah and notice how scrappy the stars are I just stuck to that jelly roll I couldn't break my rules so it was really really fun thank you I love it I love it okay this one I have so many okay so now oh so Teresa has all of them up good you're you're making a collage of everything that's why I really started to like that swirling star I thought oh my gosh with such a little bit you can really turn it into something so it was very very special all right so that's the first one that's the country wall hanging so if you're looking on our website all you have to do is go to free patterns and it's a pattern associated with the swirling star you have to have the swirling star and the ruler right you have to have have both of them so you see that one pattern oh you have two of them you have a second one so now this is the second one that I made and I did this one before I went to the Dominican Republic and it was just so much fun to do I'm thinking spring I'm thinking bright loud okay so they didn't make any noise Theresa so what I think we have to put it in front of them these the people over here they can't see it and they didn't make one single noise all right now are you gonna make noise good is it nice for spring it's perfect for spring it's perfect it's perfect for spring well just a minute how many swirling stars six and they're all scrappy right the side triangles all scrappy everything is just kind of leftovers backgrounds and notice the border very cute yep that's more perky that's the perky thing again that only in the borders so I sewed it in two pairs but Orion said look at the back do you see the binding perfect in that little stripe okay look at the back back quarters it looks like a carnival I should have called this carnival wall-hanging oh my gosh I should have called a carnival ah he and Judy Jackson did the quilting on it and I love how she did it because she just made it she made it look really happy if you look in the triangles it's like a swirling heart are you real close on the triangles Rick I'm being real steel and then just going all around there's there's really fun stuff on the points you want to see the back the back you did that right on cue so it was it was just a parts of things that was all parts of things so this is how this quilt happened on for I think a year and a half maybe two years I taught the pattern called Kylie's kite you want to put that up now I taught this one Kylie's kite have you seen this oh my goodness I thought I would never get tired of Pi respite because I I can't imagine 1224 probably I bet I caught 40 times I know it really good now 40 times and we did the little scallop around the outside edge well it is a different patch and I'm going to show you Kylie's kite in just a minute I'll show you how to do that but then there's another one in Theresa you want to bring yours up she didn't finish it yeah we have a lot of those unfinished projects don't you oh my gosh ongoing ongoing projects so hers is actually the same patch are you gonna go show to Orion are we both showing Orion look at us Orion okay there's Kylie and now go to the other one okay that one is a pattern called opposites attract do you notice a similarity very cool so when you look at the two patterns side-by-side okay I'm gonna put this one down this is opposites attract this is opposites attract like this and this one is Kylie's kite ah similar well I use all of these trimmings all of the trimmings I want to show you how I did it so I asked sue I needed a little container I wanted you to see in volume how many of these I made but I want to tell you this is already the third quilt I've made from all of these this is that good enough are you excited I'm so organized that I have these all separated out this is a visual a visual of what I've been doing but I want to show you how I got them it is really fun in Orion and I came up with this pattern one night after everybody went home from work and we said oh my gosh we have to call this Kylie's kite and Kylie was really young right there there she is right here his wife kept on calling and saying all right come on for dinner come on for dinner and we kept on saying after one more pattern after one more pattern you know and he was he was squaring up and I was sowing my heart out but anyhow this is a really nice packaging this is the first that we've ever done a fold-out pattern like this and it includes the ruler and I made my notes I was as I'm I make notes on mine so when I go back I can refer to it but this is it this little combination it starts out with one charm pack a five inch charm pack and also one and a half yards of background fabric and this is basically how you do Kylie's kite I'm going to show you really fast okay you just put a two and a half inch square in the corner and this is my two and a half inch fussy cut so we're actually just cutting two sides we're marking the center okay stay with me okay so stay with me so then we've got these two marks and to make the kite all you do is put your ruler up here and put the one end on the two and a half inch mark and the opposite end at the top and then this gets cut off here and so ah are the light bulbs going on well in Kylie's kite we don't need these you can use them in the swirling star and that's how I got all of these these all all I literally did cut so this is this is what this is where this goes this goes right in there and this is what you have left over are you amazed good good I want you to be amazed I want you to be amazed oh thank you thank you okay so then when you do Kylie's kite you you do cut background rectangles just exactly as we did in the swirling star and I have my background rectangles that are actually going to go into swirling star they are two and a half by five remember that then you just lay your cut well that's the same thing so now you're going to be putting root like that and like that ah so on this one this is Kylie's kite you have the triangle one triangle goes very similar on one side you push it over and you square off the tip and then you have one other one like that you go just then when you open that up this is what it looks like here like that and just take your ruler take your mat and you just slide right into Kylie's kite up at the top there like that and trim all four sides so see how they go together very nice cool so four of these make Kylie's kite and it's just exactly the same thing you did you swirl on the back swirl on the back similar all right so let me move these all out of the way so that's how I got all of my scrappy pieces and I just want to show you this right here if you take two of these see they're mirror image you see they're mirror image so when you're making the stars for the summertime wall hanging you make stars out of only one stack but when you're making your border you have to use both of them because look at this this is one and that's the other oh now you're getting it huh you're getting it and so it's just you make pairs of these and mirror image exactly the same way that we've been doing on the swirling star and that's what puts them all together do you have your sheet are you looking at it good good so they're made exactly the same way it's just that you have extra ones you have the opposite okay I want to show you one more thing so whenever I did my triangles around the outside I only had scraps and it calls for like a ten inch square and a ten inch square is pretty big to come by right but you could do the same thing with your side triangles with a strip a strap but you need the big old sudden triangle ruler which I've been tripping over the whole time okay so this is called a set in ruler and basically you can cut your side triangles from strips I cut my strip at five inches wide and you just take your ruler and place five inches place the five inch line right across the bottom of the strip and when you cut up and down then you have that triangle all you have to do is take your big old triangle turn it around put five inch but it tells you there's a set of instructions that tells you how wide to make your strips when you want to cut your side triangles yes this is really good for a larger quilt - yeah with like radiant star that's really good so he says I have lipstick on my teeth I'm nearly done so what am I supposed to do stand here and go like this is it gone so Theresa has her little one that she made out of her leftovers here this is what the leftovers are from here and this is her little one that cute so we don't know why we save all these pieces but we figured that sometime we'll find a use for them right you just save everything and then you can just put it all together and just put the little border around the outside and put it so did we do good with our swirling stars so not question ah yes no okay security Brenda has a great question I miss that back of the brochure on the back of the booklet there's this one I don't know if it's me or are they swirl and they're swirling in different directions they are swirling in different directions I did that one and I meant to do that because I wanted to use both of my stacks of triangles so you actually have both directions we just call it a counterclockwise you know it goes one way or it goes the other so you really just need to lay it out and play with it I meant to do it on the back but now I want you to look at Teresa's on the cover Oh Teresa's goes both directions too and she didn't mean to do it I think she was just cutting I think it's the left-handed cutting and the right-handed cutting she just cut she cut them the opposite direction she had confusing directions she had confusing directions but yes you're right they do they go both ways they go both ways so that's fun you know what there so that was a good question I'm Theresa pull out the photograph in the drawer there is ah ha there's some people that participated that are participating in the webinar they are from the Creekside quilts in Arcade New York and they are out there doing zigzag hole-in-the-wall piece of cake huh that nice so anybody else have a question that's good you have a question what do you want to know on the charm packs that has a like a pink edge on the and I can't remember how you said to cut from the outer edge or from the inside edge outer edge you just go right to the outer edge and on on all of these your little ruler is smaller than that so you're always just trimming off that daggit edge but you just use it on the outer edge of the jagged edge of that little pinking edge yeah that's good okay what else do you want to know yes ask me well she said how does my brain work it was this it was those what how many times I talk Kylie's kite and I told everybody to throw these away and everybody kept on saying I don't want to throw away what do I want to do something with it so I just started working with this piece and that's really and then we go different the different stars okay well this one oh well okay that works and then oh okay we'll do the different other swirling and so it was just really fun but it was all those pieces from Kylie's kite that made me do it and I was just thinking about wasting I mean we're like this whole green thing right so now I have the Starbucks cup that I'm not supposed to throw away and I'm so stressed I don't want to lose my Starbucks cup and add to the hallways thing and so it was just it was just that whole thing and I meant to bring this for you but I just couldn't even carry it in everyday I would mark walk into Martha's cutting area Martha is our kick cutter if you have ever gotten one of Martha's kits you know how good Martha is she does everything perfect everything accurate I always say Thank You Martha so every day Kylie Skype she's cutting these kits and throwing these little ends of background into this box and finally I see this box and I said Martha can I have that box and so I've been digging through this box pressing sheet she like cuts over towards the fold but doesn't do the last cut I don't care I don't mind if I open up a folded piece and press it I don't mind you know and so that's how where I'm getting all of these pieces so that's what I'm saying this just was total leftovers and actually I do have to confess remember I stole some a Teresa's fat quarters and those bright colors I stole those one month and so those were just fat quarters again but I didn't have big 10-inch but it's like a set in triangle ruler - cool so anyhow it's just like total total I can make a whole bunch more - I'm just getting started so it's fun yes the template thank you I really appreciate having the template in the pattern I know I'm so dyslexic and I really need all the help I can get well not only we're both dyslexic I get it I get it but I really do like putting a little pet a little one inside because it's so frustrating if you buy a pattern and you run home and you're so excited and then you read it and go oh I needed to get this other thing and so then you have to go running out looking for that you can't even get started until you have the little ruler so anyhow I really encouraged Orion it is a little more expensive it's like three dollars more than our other patterns but that's okay don't you think that's okay so you have it Eleanor you got a text message of a group that's watching this ah and they said that their racks are bigger than yours I know who that is I know who that is I'm sure that Susan's group my rival Susan Johnson it's that Johnson's group all Bev Johnson her husband's a hunter that is very funny Bev you got me I see in paducah Bev that is really cute her husband is a hunter see we hope really only the girls are watching huh then we can do what we want we can say what we like leftover food fabrics so what I'm calling this one house work has never done isn't that cute house work has never done that is adorable Brenda Eleanor it was a true quit one day I did it yesterday yeah it's really cute I really like it and Brenda's walking with Outkast now yay Oh Eileen this is beautiful oh I brought a layer cake last month before we left and I love this that is beautiful and I never would have used this Sacheen but Theresa picked it out for me I think that sashing really complements it it's beautiful that is really nice all right sandy I decided against the sashing cuz it was faster I've a niece that likes black and white and hot pink and I had a stack of black and white so pretty sharp and there if you can't see there's like little birds and little bicycles and and forks and knives in there some cute fabric so I think the kids are like that is very here last month so I brought my hole in the wall oh good and I used my a stack of African fabrics which are large so this pattern worked out well for them and a lot of these fabrics are directly from Africa too so I think it's unique oh my goodness thank you for sharing that thank you thanks for the pattern that is beautiful and I love your center square you did really good I'm picking out the color very nice sandy alright baby so I use just for fabric and I was gonna just use it because I found a panel so show the other side how cute this yes that's the panel the two-sided quilt that is very cute so did you hear Linda it's for a grand baby it's the first grandbaby that's fun Wow ooh I love Betty Boop this is a retirement quilt for my friend Carol who is retiring next month and she's been a Betty Boop fan all her life she has Betty Boop everything calendars keychains she'll love it did she see it yet oh my gosh she's gonna love it she's working so she can't see the show today and and I want you to notice all of the Betty Boop's are right side up wow that is very impressive very cute very very cool all right Sharon sock pastels this is the Easter my granddaughter she told me she likes fairies oh when I first wanted the fairies random but I couldn't quite get it right so I just decided to put kind of a border in the middle and then border and the fairies around with the other colors that that is very cute very very cute so it really brings your focus into the fairies the lighter color stood the blocks out better so that is very nice good job we love you know what it's to our advantage to don't don't make it until after you see the next show right I get good ideas that's really cool all Louis if we didn't even see Louis standing there we should know this as Louis is coiled the beautiful oranges and blacks Wow I'm trying to use up stuff stop and stuff that where did that come from who bought it was i drinking what was I thinking uh but this is called the only kind of garden I can grow and that's the truth it's going to be a tablecloth whenever it gets it's gonna be gorgeous just beautiful the whole I just read Better Homes and Gardens on the plane and the whole subject was what was I thinking when I bought that fabric and they tell all ways of how to put it together oh wow Marilyn that is really cool it's just a quilt I think you know oh not for anybody yet that is very cool with that large-scale print a couple of large scale prints very very nice and I have to tell you Marilyn has a quilt hanging in the Paducah quilt show this month and it's a radiant star she made it at on the the the retreat in Temecula a couple of years ago but she embellished it to the nines she had a added a flower border above the top she put little stars in the corners of the quilt and half little stars all way around the border so she's gonna be there you're gonna see us I know you will we're we're making a big presence at that Paducah this year very nice look I love your backing oh I love that Linda that is beautiful I just call it bright days bright days that is the same line as all of my of all my triangles see that is that is really nice very very nice you enjoyed sewing and it was so uplifting it is it is really it is really nice thank you the back is beautiful that is great good job what a show alright Joyce oh look at this coming Wow I wanted to use some of my floral collection so my gosh look close to the club oh my goodness awesome awesome and looks like a seed catalog doesn't it it's is that Burpee Burpee Burpee it looks oh my goodness that is gorgeous very pretty see I love it everybody does things that suit them beautiful alright Mary Ann I can't wait to see what you're up to oh but they won't hear you say whatever you goes there oh that is very sweet what's this on a layer cake package oh my gosh that is beautiful gorgeous very very pretty I'm proud of you you didn't even do your own little spin to it you just stuck to it that was a great show that was a very nice show thank you so much so this is the month of Paducah Paducah oh you're all come part knee yes I have one coffee one copy um can you go get it can you go get it it's on it's in the art department now it's one copy and I don't know you I heard you say there were five thousand coming in soon Friday but don't you want to have a big celebration so don't you want to just have this tea not to bad-mouth our own country but we chose the states this time and it was way delayed so we are waiting for them to send us a good binding bound copy of the print before well actually they wouldn't print the book until a bindery could actually bound it so we had our specification months of them trying to just copy something that we've a million times they couldn't do it so we went from down bindery to bindery and finally it's coming so it's coming it's American born in America and there are a number of you that have photographs in the book and I thought that it would be really fun if we had some type of a celebration a little tea because I owe all of you that we're in block party last year a book and this is the cover of it it is really different for me very different and the ideas hard cover like heart cover with wire binding in the inside yes and so I know a lot of you go to Kinko's and you ask them to you know bind it for us it's a good it is I'll just okay so I dedicated it to the my grandchildren there they are oh so cute but then it starts that one is one for me this one is Barbara's quilt right here she's so excited I'm so excited and then this one is Teresa's this one is I goes this one is sandy Oh Maurice she's the quilter this is Murray's and this is Jones and this one's Linda Ryan's and this is the one that joy directed the Christmas quilt and then this is our Riley Blake our yardage here and then we just keep on going and actually I put a number of quilts in through this is our little laundry day oh you guys are gonna see it all so we actually hired a professional stylist to put the B's in place the beans are all in place this one is Suze and so we have little pictures throughout I did the best that I could paddy the recipes look good this is your hearts Inga's urge your little cookies I'm looking to see because there's photographs from the filters throughout this one is from Diane who is who took the class online and she submitted hearts and gizzards recipe that's really dirty rice cage and dirty rice and it sounds really good it sounds really good so let me see oh that's our pig's tail I want to find there's so many more of the artists in here well right but there's really beautiful pages throughout okay I know ones coming up because I showed the basket actually this is the eat one of the evening ladies yes we did and this one is actually yvette hall back is who the evening one is that she did this one but okay this one is from Nancy McBride her little this is a sugar cone sugar cone and we have you guys you're so patient as I flip through does that look pretty as weird for oh thank you this is Patty's right here but see I worked hard to make sure this one as Eileen's the melon quilt the cute huh the little picnic what I think there's two hundred and some pages in here but what I thought is that we should have all of the artists sit in a line and everybody just walk past each one of them and put them in this is also Eileen's app apple crisp doesn't that look pretty and and wouldn't that be fun if you had had everybody sign their name by their picture then it's a kind of copy you'd never want to give away so how when should we schedule it do you want to do it like after next block party or would that be good while you're all here can you wait a month to have it no you can wait a month this one this one is Deb Donovan's quilt dabs that look pretty she here today let me see tonight okay we have to show that to her and this is also Eileen's cactus bloom look at the turkey the stage bud okay this one is Lois's look at Lowe's see now see what I had to do I had to make the quilt look pretty beside the picture lots of stuff I had to make sure the words were right it's spelled correctly and I just want you to know that even though you read this over and over again you think you have every word perfect and as an author I can tell you personally you find the one misspelled word within two seconds of holding the book when I edited for months I just want you to know that in this book is crock-pot cherry bobble [Laughter] [Music] so we are gonna cherry gobble I guess people that don't know is supposed to speak cobbler they'll think bobble sounds just fine cherry gobble so anyhow and then in the back is there's more authors there's a couple more pages but here this is Carol's right here then that'd look pretty the patterns this is Diane Knights that day we had more quilts this is a Louise's no no but you guys not from you all the recipes that go with the blocks but there's this cute other cute little there's Maryland belts yeah and the Swiss one is Joey Anne's at night and this is Rainey she's not here today is it amazing and this one is Nancy's that looked pretty I saw her in here someplace yeah there she is look pretty so I think there might even be some more honestly I did the best that I could it was based on you know what looked best in the photography and this was real pretty Linda Carlson that's pretty and they all have reasons that I put them on the different pages thank you for sharing the views yeah oh my goodness I have shivers that was fun and I have to tell you this is probably a this is either The Hunger 10th or 111th book that I've done in 35 years he loves it you know when I looked at it I said okay well we wanted something different something brighter and this is different looking huh how you think it will be well I think that people like it because the hidden wire oh and it is a very solid firm cover and there's the recipes besides all the quilts I don't think we've ever had so many thoughts and 208 pages so there's a lot thank you thank you so much good [Applause] you
