hello this is the instruction video for the survival loader in 12-gauge this may look kind of familiar since we've done a previous video on YouTube for the survival loader and 410 gauge the loading process between both kits is very similar however the 12-gauge has a new component and is capable of loading 2 and 3/4 inch and 3 inch 12-gauge shells it comes in a fairly compact box measuring about 5 inches by 5 inches by an inch thick and holds all six components that you need to survival load or casually load 12-gauge shotgun ammunition first component is the multi base this is my personal kit I use it extensively when I go to the range for doing testing or camping or even sitting in front of my TV loading up a box of ammo the multi base has four workstations one is the strike that area 2 is the decapping area this is where you take your primer out of the shell 3 this is where you dislodge the shell from the size die if you're using the sizing method and everybody ends up at station 4 this is where you insert a new primer into your case second item is the d cap rod on one end is a hardened steel pin it comes to a sharp point this is where when you put the end of your case and you find that little Center flash hole in the fired primer what it does is it lines everything up straight up and down so that when you tap the end of the D cap rod it pops the primer out with relative ease dual purpose steel size diet the long smooth end is the sizing end if you choose to use the resizing method the short smooth end is for the non resizing method and we'll explain that as we go along grip starter this is made by quantity this is a new addition to this kit we acquire them and it becomes standard with this basic kit in the 12 gauge this is a six point crimp starter the reason we picked the six point crimp starter above all others is that we found that most combat and defensive loads such as these Remington double-aught buck use a six point crimp as the Winchester does double-aught buck uses a six point [ __ ] and of course federal these are double ought buck and again these use a six point crimp there may be other manufacturers out there that use a different crimp but your trap and skeet loads your double Quayle loads those kind of shot gun shell loadings are typically an eight point crimp that said if you want an eight point crimp to add to the kit we also sell it off our website as an accessory it's the Hornady eight point crimp starter this is the crimp tool after you've started your crimp with the Hornet equipped starter the set tool along with the size die finalize the finished crimp the funnel stainless steel it has two purposes one obviously is to put powder or shot into your case the other because of this beveled area by the stem is ideal for compressing into the mouth of the case and giving it a flare or a slight bell which facilitates later on inserting the wad into the case we've included a sample of our overshot wad material this is the material that we use making our overshot wads this is 1.5 mil thick they come in many other different thicknesses and colors you can buy them at most craft stores Walmart is where I get mine out other crack section they come in 8 by 10 sheets and I believe they're like 33 cents apiece great for making your own overshot waz it's a fairly firm but compressible rubber-like material we've included this in case you want to start making your overshot wads for 12 gauge you would use a 3/4 inch punch instruction sheet this is a full-color instruction sheet with step-by-step instructions for loading either by the non resizing method or by the resizing method on the front all the components are listed safety tips that says do not work on live ammunition ever wear eye protection or shooting or reloading do not use a metal hammer on these components you'll damage them I use a rawhide mallet it's about 12 ounces also weigh each individual powder charge don't use one of those little scooper kits that they have that get you kind of close weigh each powder charge do not err on safety especially when it comes to reloading use a reloading manual or the powder manufacturers website data but measure each one and what I like to do is I use the survival loader powder vials we sell these on our website they're pretty good price but I'll take 15 20 30 of these with me to the range with different test loads in them or I'll go to the campsite boomer camping I can load ammunition if we're going to stay another day or in front of the TV it's all pre measured everything fits into this relatively compact box it measures was about 5 inches by 5 inches by about an inch thick it will go into a coat pocket bug-out bag backpack takes up almost no space onto the workbench first thing I'm going to do is the resizing method of reloading this is a two or three quarter inch shell by Remington I like Remington hulls they look pretty good this base may or may not be brass on the cases that you get there's only a few manufacturers that actually use breasts most of them use the metal and then they just plate it so it looks like brass you have to decide whether you want to resize or not if you've fired this in only one 12-gauge and this is going to be fired again in that same 12-gauge it's already fire formed to the chamber you probably don't need to resize it but it was going to be put in two or three other different twelve gauges or you're going to hand it to your buddies to shoot the chamber dimensions of different guns and manufacturers have very slight variations and just to be safe you'd would want to resize it to make sure it would chamber but not resizing Hazards advantage if you don't need to resize and put the stress and pressure on this metal each time your cases are going to last significantly longer and that puts money in your pocket now the base needs to have a case loop on it I use a some RCBS I've already pre looped this and we're going to do the resizing method first it goes on station number one that is the strike pad also like your anvil this is the resizing end of the sized I place it down and over the shell casing so let go as far as the metal because it hasn't been sized yet keep it upright don't tilt it organ damage the rim if you do that and you get damage to the rim or bulge of the case not a problem it can be fixed here later on at station number four take your mallet give it a couple of hard wraps make sure it goes all the way down to the rim now that has been resized up into the case next thing we have to do is take out the primer take your knockout rod which has the tip on it place it down inside the shell case and it's basically by field you'll feel that center hole in the primer line it up and out comes the primer there it is we now need to get this case out of the side diet we go to station 3 leave the knock out rod in the case leave the pin sticking out place it on station 3 and a couple of hard caps and out it comes now this has been resized and D primed the next thing we would do is we would go and prime that all the cases I buy a 25 or 30 cases I would do this process first and then go to the priming I'm going to show you the non resizing method it's a lot quicker a lot faster because you don't have to move it you don't have to resize it all you have to do is get the primer out so we go to station to place the D cap rot in and tap out the primer when we go to station 4 which is priming it's the same for all of them from that point on whether you've resized or not resized now if you've damaged the rim when you were resizing it all you have to do before priming is take it in place on station for the non resizing end of the size I goes over the shell case all the way to the bottom and this now holds the shell case upright you can't twist it or put it on an angle it's going to keep it up and down a couple of hard wraps and if you had a dented or a bent rim it would take care of it now we're going to reap run I am loading live ammunition for this demonstration you take your new life primer place it in the center of station 4 place your shell casing over it take the non sizing end of the size guide slide it down and give it a moderate tap and is placed in the bottom and it is flush even hit it harder if you want it's not gonna go off as long as you keep this smooth and clean the next thing we need to do is put powder in so I'm going to take my funnel velvet case mouth I use station number three of the third hand so it doesn't tip over pour my powder in now I need to put it in a wad so I insert the wad into the case and I use the opposite end of the decaf rod which is slightly rounded so it won't cut into the plastic to seat the wad firmly on top of the powder charge and seal it now I'm loading a 1 ounce load I know from this case with that powder charge and that wad that I need 8 double-aught buck and that will make a 1 ounce load so I'm going to put them in the case and there is number 8 tamp it down a little bit so it meshes together now I know from loading this case that I've got a slight gap between the top of the led buckshot and where the crimp folds I need to use two overshot wads I insert them push them down use the end of the D cap rod to seat them firmly and now it's time to start the trick I'll come a little bit closer we take the Hornady crimp starter push it in rotate a little bit and you'll feel the spines on the inside of the crimp starter mesh with the crimp push in let me turn it around this way so you can see it clearly and you're only going to get about halfway that's about where you're going to be and that's all you need to be at this point now you take the non sizing end of the side guide slide it in and you're gonna see what looks like a flower petal that's what you want take the crib set tool slide it in and when you first push it in its going to go in fairly easy it's going to close that crimp up a little bit see how that went in take a look she had closed it up a lot more but now we need to close it all the rest of the way this is where you become the reloading press take it and push it in firmly I like to rotate it a little bit push it out and there you go just to show you what it looks like compared to factory this is a box of brand new Remington buckshot factory load our load came out pretty decent go to our website take a look and see what we have to offer we have many of the things besides the loaders we have accessories it is the X ring usa.com thank you for watching our
