After a couple months of waiting, Jeff finally has the video out! A few things got lost in translation (I'm not using a custom shotgun and I didn't invent the cartridge) but he did very good! I'm extremely impressed with their performance at such low velocities!

I was waiting for this since your last post. They didn't disappoint. You should try a segmented hollow point with a similar design.

I had a chance to pick up an ultra slug hunter but i didn't get it. Watching his channel and following your work makes me regret that decision.

Awesome. And where can I get these rounds? I need to keep elephants out of my pear trees.

Holy Mackrel!

Even at about half the speed that thing is devastating. I must order some immediately.

Does each round come with shoulder reconstruction insurance? This is the round you use if you need to hit something through several cars without worrying about it stopping partway....

What are we hunting? Did I miss the news that dinosaurs are being cloned? It's 2020 who knows what is left to be thrown at us this year...

hey everyone this is jeff of taofledermaus today we'll be testing the 12 gauge from hell these were developed by richard f who apparently really loves heavy recoil richard had these slugs custom made for him out of solid copper these are a full bore 73 caliber slug or very close to it now these suckers are heavy weighing in at 1.66 ounces a normal foster slug usually weighs 1 ounce or about 28 grams richard sent us a mock-up of one of the shells that he uses and is very heavy custom-made 12-gauge which uses over 200 grains of powder to get it to 2000 feet per second the shell on top is what we'll be using today because we don't have a custom shotgun our shotguns are limited to a barrel pressure of around 14 000 psi in order for richer to get to 2000 feet per second the barrel pressure is over 25 000 psi in order to stay in that 14 000 psi curve well the heavier the projectile the less velocity we'll be able to get out of it it all comes down to just being safe welcome back top later folks jeff officer greg and volunteer doug out here with you today in a beautiful california fall day we were sent some rounds by richard f you can go see his channel here on youtube richard f makes a big giant round here that he loads he loads this uh it's an all copper round the rest oh no the round itself is all copper right this ignore me i just shut up jeff shut up it's 726 grains doug's wearing one up here on his shoulder here i'll zoom in here oh auto zoom reverse zoom this is one that danny and jeff shot uh the other day as a test round you can see the rifling on that thing 726 grains of all copper so that is a a bfr if you will so richard f loads these things into brass shell casings and you can imagine the cost and the work that needs to go into something that big well he said there's a bunch of the actual projectiles jeff has loaded them into a much easier 12 gauge shell so we're going to send these big old monsters downrange they're supposed to get 2 000 feet per second that's what richard gets we're not going to get okay yeah we don't have the the gun for that he has like a 13-pound gun you know it's almost like a 10-gauge weight gun and richard fills this thing up three-quarters of the way full of powder so yeah imagine how much oomph is behind that thing a 12 gauge shell isn't going to hold quite that much but doug is um what doug says he doesn't want to volunteer for this but since jeff and i are not going to volunteer and he doesn't have legs he loses the bet so doug's going to wait downrange for us we're going to step back here and put some of these into some different targets for you see how they do doug's wearing the body armor up front soft body armor i'm going to be aiming at this blue tape around back there are two pieces of soft body armor hooked to his back and we're hoping to catch one of these rounds as they exit doug because we're pretty sure they're going to exit doug sorry buddy all right let's get to it go check out richard f here on youtube aiming a little high just to compensate for barrel harmonics okay i'm ready all right here we go hopefully whoa hopefully whoa so welcome to the towel surgery top later surgery suite um jeff had me aim a little high thinking these were going to drop they actually hit pretty close to point of impact so what would have aim yeah they hit exactly on point of impact that's that's just science however they went right through this vest oh my gosh tore the kevlar fibers out the back found kevlar fibers here in doug's chest went through about 20 shirts there yeah there's many shirts on we never take them off we just keep adding more it'll be nice and warm for winter and then exited out doug's back this was a brand new shirt a second ago bringing kevlar fibers with it again look at that wow and this was the first panel that was behind doug it knocked this panel of kevlar out of the little carrier or yeah or the carrier the shell yeah who calls the shell yeah let's call it a shell but you can see right there caught this thing like a catcher's mitt right there still warm just like smarter every day he shot a dummy with a baseball i would i would love to see what a baseball hitting that kevlar vest would have done we're gonna need a baseball sized shotgun i think so okay so anyway so look as this was tearing through it's got kevlar fibers all over it you can see the rifling on there just like jeff and danny's test round very solid engagement it's almost scary solid engagement that is a huge piece of copper man so it almost almost made it through two vests let's say we're out here with this big giant bitcoin this is actual bitcoin folks didn't even know it existed but it weighs 30 pounds made out of solid lead you can see that the thing is basically just cast out of a big frying pan full of lead and i mean that is heavy 30 pounds and something that small is heavy do not take it swimming anyway we put a piece of tape on there we're gonna aim for that piece of tape you can see that it's what is that inch and a half two inches thick about an inch and a half i'd say so if not a little more for a round to plow through that much solid lead that heavy is a pretty uh pretty powerful round and i think throughout history we've only had two or three rounds yeah yeah just all the way through it's very difficult to penetrate that you can see you can see most rounds make a nice heavy divot in there a nice big splatter but punching all the way through is quite a feat and this is the long shot long shot yeah now even though greg missed this shot and it's kind of my fault because i had him aim a little high i could still see the shock wave hitting the fabric of the vest behind it proving that these things are traveling at supersonic speed i think it flashed like 12 1200 and some feet per second okay my brain was still rattling inside my skull so i didn't see the numbers all right here we go on the blue tape hopefully i think that one hit all right put your comments below do you think it went through or stuck in the lead plate all right there's the cheat so it almost made it through but you can see that copper round burrowed deep in there a little bit of an angle and around back we have a little bit of a bulge it tried to break through i mean a little bit more speed or something wait that would apply right through there but so accurate they hit right on the blue tape where we were aiming this time and uh boy that thing is in there too there's no getting that out no to melt down that lid plate yep yep in this shot greg aimed where he thought he needed to aim and hit the target now this shot was about 950 feet per second if we had reached 1100 or 1200 yeah it would have gone through that plate jeff dug around in the garage found uh 1985 through 1987 issues of sexy goat magazine and he's been soaking them overnight so we've got a stack of wet magazines held together by tape a little piece of blue tape on the front to show you where we're going to aim so wet magazines are an awesome medium they don't they don't exactly act like humans but it's a great thing for stopping rounds and it also is a kind of a great demonstration of the kind of damage we can get it's sort of like ballistic gel in that it's very consistent the damage okay long shot this time uh this one is long shot right okay yeah the blue line we'll see if it was your aim or the slug or the powder we got to blame something right sure it's my aim if it's richard he curse that one maybe okay everything's running i'm ready all right here we go hopefully 11.78 look at that it threw the vest clear up the hillside wow look at the hole the slug from hell had no problem penetrating our wet magazines the slug still had so much energy after hitting the kevlar vest behind it it carried that vest way up onto the berm so that is some impressive splash there that thing i don't know if you can see all the way through there but that thing tore right through what is that six inches something like that yeah solid wet magazines tore right out the back with some violence too took this vest flung it faster than i've ever seen this thing thrown clear up the hillside there but inside the vest uh carrier or the little shell there it is again almost undamaged with its uh other than the rifling yeah that's impressive man i just tore right through that so for comparison just because we're kind of curious too i've got some foster slugs on board that shotgun let's put one of those down here and kind of compare what a standard one ounce lead common hunting foster slug will do okay compare that's a good idea compared to that big old damage yeah makes you maybe make you appreciate these things a little more yeah because will foster slug even make it through these magazines i don't know noticeably less recoil yeah that was comfortable to shoot compared to that at first i thought this one went through the magazines as well let's see if i was right or not okay i thought it went through but so the splash looks very similar gnarly gnarly hole there you can almost see all the way through in fact you can you can see daylight through there and then here we have 1985 1986 1987 sexy go magazine but look how it just bent those magazines as it's slowing down and right there there it is is one chopped up piece of look it's a christmas ornament you get it hanging on your ear oh sure it looks like an ear actually yeah huh quit moving moving around it's not us folks your youtube is buffering it's your idiot cameraman youtube is still buffering all right so yeah look at that did not quite make it through sure wanted to still impressive probably a tenth of the cost yeah you're not going to believe this but edwin's grandfather bought this jug of kool-aid back from italy in world war ii and uh all red red kool-aid it's about what a gallon and a half we're gonna float a ball right there on the top of it put a slug into the side of it it makes for a pretty uh pretty shocking scene so it's all for science sure it's that's practically science with that that's like one of those little galileo thermometers isn't it yeah here we go hopefully at the bottom of the label okay that'd be a good spot [Music] look at that pink rain the plastic pot full of water is one of my favorite targets it really shows you how much energy is being dumped into that target okay well what happened there well we figured out that if you hit the black pot right on the white label the the sweet spot if you hit right on the sweet spot everything gets wet folks so we punched it right through there you saw that pink water raining down for another 30 seconds it's kind of funny anyway this vest was back there i don't even think we knew it was that vessels back there hammered into the vest and the vest caught it back there on the hillside and we found the round again doing good at catching these we don't even need a uv camera or a radar you guys need a thermal imaging camera a metal detector a helicopter with infrared so yeah pretty impressive the reason it did not go through the vest of course this time is because it had just plowed through about 10 inches of water so it slowed it down do not be confused it did make it through a vest when it was shot only against the best but this thing had slowed down significantly by the time it hit our kevlar so it was able to catch it i couldn't believe the damage it did to our kevlar vest that was a military soft body armor panel it did open the whole thing up yeah look at this jeez it's like ramen noodles or yeah katy perry's new hair or something smoothbore smoothbore no rifling no spin i'm gonna put the red dot right on that red heart down there okay well you are ready i'm ready oh my goodness that has a thump [Music] now richard and i both thought there was a chance this slug would be stable through a smoothbore without any spin unfortunately it's not it kind of behaves like a bullet without spin just kind of flies sideways what is this goofy experiment well this is a blue jug of industrial industrial-sized viagra you can see right there we're gonna lock this down nice and heavy i don't know simulate a body sort of we've got one vest on here on it right now we're gonna put a t-shirt over it and lock another vest in front of it two vests and we're kind of hoping to show you the amount of hydrostatic shock even after it's the vest yeah how about when you if you got shot by one of these and if you were a jug of viagra yeah if you're if your body consisted of pure water and plastic it's exactly what you're looking for exactly so this is a perfect test for no one this is science folks in the making this is trailer park science good lord all right on the green tape now this test really demonstrates the power of the slug even traveling at 1200 feet per second that slug penetrated two kevlar vests through a bunch of water and still had a little energy when it came out the back that's amazing so what has science taught us today so first of all we hit it a little bit high and right of the blue tape went through vest number one actually vest number one went through vest number two punched a big giant dramatic hole in the bucket there was a there was a significant loss of hydrostatic pressure in other words the water leaked out and in the back oh wait oh oh you get an og fist wiggle that's probably nothing anybody wanted to see out the back of the bucket we have an exit hole so we don't know where it is somewhere on that hillside we need a thermal imager to find that round against against the hot sand that'll work out great yeah i think with a little bit of duct tape we could take a little duct tape off of that a lot of damage you could take a duct tape off of danny's hat and fix that right up well it should come as no surprise that this slug can penetrate a full block of gel but wait till you see what else it did hit the ballistic gel the clear-ish ballistic gel and made a pretty nice big hole there that hole looks like about 40 caliber wide yeah it i don't know if you're gonna be able to see it through there but a nice big channel as it tore through of course it's not an expanding round or anything so it takes most of its energy right through this gel block and exits right there one of those holes one of those time to recast that thing i just happen to have that out here it's like a it's a block of jail just perfect just because perfectly clear kind of yeah and then i kind of messed up i was hoping to catch it in our wet magazines though you know so this was our first round foster slug and wet magazines did not stop it we just tore through all these all three years sexy goat and it is not in here it actually passed all the way through and it's out there on the hillside somewhere so so okay so that that impresses me a little bit more because the foster slug did not make it through the web magazines but the this thing went through the magazines after going through 18 inches of gel these things are a copper freight train they plow through mostly because they're holding their shape they're not losing any energy as they deform and expand so they're holding their shape like a like a ball round of ammunition so it's just how's the recoil on it the recoil was impressive my shoulder is definitely feeling that um the one the one i fired out of the taofleder shotgun the weatherbee that's a very very light aluminum shotgun and my goodness that one about set me back three feet on the on the stool so they do have impressive uh recoil you would not want to shoot these very much if at all but i tell you what whatever you're hitting with them man make sure you got a solid backstop like a train or a cruise ship or something because they are uh they're definitely some penetrating around so good job there uh richard richard f good job richard f this one's for you those were impressive rounds and uh it'd be interesting everybody go over and check out richard's channel to see what he does when he loads them into an actual uh brass uh showcase it's like a four inch shell you know a big giant that's a pain in the butt but you could take an elephant round and put it inside of that shell right right it's huge while you're on youtube if you happen to like videos of i don't know madonna floating around in a hot tub or men in bath robes or gun tests come on over and visit me at og's danger show uh we can definitely use you as a subscriber and uh stop by and have a couple of laughs and see some guns firing yeah if you want you can unsubscribe from me from me and then subscribe to him if you if you have too many subscriptions yeah youtube tells you sorry you gotta ditch some to get some more yeah i'll give you some of mine there i wouldn't necessarily say that it's better that's good enough to ditch subscriptions but okay last shot of the day i'm sure greg appreciates that i'll tell you what you imagine if i load these to 2000 feet per second you would you'd have broken bones yay okay stainless steel plate all right so there's two little bumps below the lady's face did i see what you did there what's wrong with you on purpose you are 10 years old okay i'm ready all right here we go on the bumps oh my that's the last one [Laughter] this is a pretty neat shot because a lot of things just went right in here even though we didn't have penetration the combination of just the right velocity the right uh softness of the copper and the you know the softness of the stainless steel caused that slug to just come to a dead stop the slug mushroomed to 35 millimeters of diameter and lost none of its mass all right so i was aiming for the two little bumps below the lady's face it hit up here it did not make it through i thought it was gonna punch through jeff said no jeff wins but look at that look at that lump on there jeez came to a dead stop yes and check this out oh you have something hidden there found it on the dirt it is still hot as hell oh wow burn my fingers but look at that thing it looks like that's wild brianna can make a cowboys boat buckle or something out of that ring it kind of looks like a copper nipple just as you touch it by the way the copper nipples was the name of a band i had in the 80s we did all house and electric uh kind of a funk music yeah we were called the copper nipples we didn't get a lot of play mostly in churches but look at that thing it's splattered out there there's the back that is amazing only these edges out here are cool enough to look at that it's a little sombrero oh lay moving i can only hold it by its little flaky edges little cooling fins there you go that's wild copper sombreros how perfectly it yes expanded man it'll expand if you hit it with something hard enough and that thing is sharp little edges and hot as hell that's amazing i love it i didn't expect it to do that i'm glad we took that shot now come see the copper nipples folks we're opening for depeche mode on their world reunion it's a reunion tour or something like that all right well we thank you for joining us richard that was uh those are some impressive uh impressive rounds i can't imagine shooting those at two thousand feet yeah i can't my shoulder can't imagine that either oh my god we're getting maybe a 12 something yeah i wanted to get them super sonic you know there was no way i would have been able to load them to 14 1500 feet per second yeah there's not enough oh physical room in there yeah that's a keeper there that's that's pretty cool the copper sombrero that's what it looked like before and after
