this is not gonna be good you guys I'm already nervous about this [Applause] [Music] hey guys before we get started with this incredible episode with Brad and Doug duberty and their insane van if you remember back we just showed you the C10 Slayer episode and in that episode Brad made an extremely cool offer which was to give away one of their power washers but not just one of them this is a one of one Brad duberty autotopia La one of one power washer 1500 value for this thing by the way so stick around till the end of this episode because Brad and I together are going to pick the winner of the power washer all right enjoy this episode man hey guys Melissa for once Sean autotopia La I'm here with the duberties if you didn't figure that out by now we got Brad we got Doug I mean deep over here by the way look back on the Tacoma video If you haven't seen it just to get a sense of how crazy these guys are well when you're crying when I took you oh I remember that I had to get that thing of tissue the nice part was he did have an extra pair of underwear for me for after the show they're a little small but it worked yeah it worked you changed the voice a little bit you know all right so the one we're doing right now is we're doing this van and I remember when we came out to shoot the Tacoma and I walked in and the Tacoma and then I instantly looked over at the van and went oh my God we got to shoot this thing you guys go all the way outside of the box but you engineer and make it work anything that we build we drive you got to have horsepower you gotta have everything all the way back so it'll run but when this fan takes off it'll literally the Ascend almost scrapes the ground it almost does a wheelie but the great thing about the van is oh Mr Young Buck here what did I call you Grandpa yeah all the time but he when I told him hey let's do a 61 65 you know older van he wasn't getting it I'm like I'm good and he goes what's it look like so I showed him a picture and they when you look at these Vans up in the air they were a complete utility vehicle none of them had an interior they had a little motor sitting right next to you yeah you load them up back in the day you were still sperm about no one you actually use it you deliver what's wrong with you then the Vans came around in my generation and they started getting big do you remember I mean if you had a fan shag carpet the teardrop window on the side right I mean like you guys haven't seen this family 100 beard ceiling you're so excited well I want to talk about this because we were just talking about Brad Before Time sperm I don't believe the first governor had shed carpet and Brad's Mom in it okay I'm leaving can we just look at the build 61. when we first built this we were just gonna change the engine and and do a few things but one thing we did not know is this complete van is a unibody but you didn't know that when you started I had no idea we never went to school for engineering we learn it as we go no you overlooked it because I didn't want to build let's not say are you happy now whatever I I'm personally stoked I I I'm fired up about this one this is so did you cut everything apart and Chassis the thing what we did is we put it on our four post and literally we took a Sawzall yeah and we cut the complete floorboard out we lifted the body completely off and literally rolled out the back end and just threw it in the garbage and we're on a 90 day to get this thing done why 90 days because this was a discovery episode two episodes we don't really have time to engineer a frame so we took out the tape measures underneath this thing is unbelievable you talk about a full race car chassis from just our brains this is a race car it's not even a van this is no this is like the Tacoma we just love building high quality we understand what you need from front to back to make the thing work and dependable you guys definitely bring the race car mentality to everything you do because I mean for one you're gonna drive this out of the thing I'm sure you probably do this he's a lot slower but yeah but I've seen you guys you guys with your donut contests you know how it is when you have a kid you don't want to ruin a self-esteem so if I go out and I beat Brad every time what's going to happen so you're constantly helping him by losing a little bit Yeah because if I don't I never did that at a young age but now that he's older out there that is nice it's just a testament to how much he loves you that's that's that's really good I'm not even here you guys are on the same time so you've done a full chassis on this yeah so what's suspension because I know it's on air what this is all accurate air so there's three different settings in which I'm not a big airbag fan because yeah you know you get failures here and there yeah we use Scott's hot rod has some off-the-shelf stuff where where anybody could go out there and look I should have wore some cheaters on a couple measurements when we were doing the front end because I was off a half inch and I read the tape wrong and Brad gave me crap but that's okay I forgot about that see I knew I hated this bill this is all 290 days this week is completed in exactly 90. well let me tell you a problem there's other shows you they build it and whatever but you see it in person you're like oh gosh yeah yeah now it makes sense it looks like it was done in a week the problem with us we want it going out of the shop just going full Test full hand light we need to make sure clearances everything works and it is perfect done right and everything like that yeah we're very very meticulous yeah on everything and yeah that probably kills us worse than anything because when we do film they all leave at six and then me and Brad are out there until 12 o'clock making sure right Brad's the kind of kid that if it's behind a door panel it better look like it does on the outside because someone might take that door panel off and look behind it and if there's something ugly under there he's worried that someone's gonna say something yeah what I appreciate about that is if because if you're willing to let one thing slide you might be willing to let other things slide and now you might have something that's mechanically not really sound where something that nobody's ever going to see but it actually matters to you it means every thing matters to you yeah well it matters but it doesn't have to be sanded and painted and colored sand have been buffed behind the fruit for me but here we got 90 days and the steering wheel on these Vans is over here he's all Dad let's put the steering wheel in the middle so we did we put boxes in the middle we're thinking okay this will be perfect let's and then I get in and I'm like no this ain't gonna work because there's always going to be someone in the middle and if you don't have three people that's not gonna look right two dudes here or two dudes here it just don't work so you didn't actually intend on right hand you were just you were set up centering and you went ah let's move it a little bit no not we we've got 90 days we're working 12 16 hours a day him I mean we're already this far in it why not why not just okay so this steering column comes down and it comes into a 90 steering box and then it goes all the way over to the wheel it's got four different connectors to hit that wheel wow but it works and I I gotta admit I'm glad we did it well first compliment thanks Dad yeah but here's the weird thing when you're in this side and you're driving down the road you you're just used to positioning yourself yeah over here yeah I know so here we are test driving it and Brad keeps saying get over yeah and so it goes over the line you're trying to listen oh no I'm with you dude I've driven right-hand drive vehicles and I drift to the left the whole time it doesn't make sense and the other part that's weird for me is you're used to just going like this for your side view now you're looking like way over for the side view all your perspectives change yeah I get it I've yet to drive this just so you know I've never driven seriously yeah I think I'm just nervous to hurt it because I like to go like ham and my dad's more like like a old lady driver I've never ever been beat up by an old lady driver Dad here let's start with the paint we got some hidden Illusions so if we're doing anything to do with airbrushing we always hide things in it so look here's a peace sign peace sign gear oh smiley face everything I do smiley face see the smiley face so if you look around this van there's stuff all over so whack I swear what is the engine in this thing that sits massively in the middle here so this is a 2018 Factory crate Coyote engine with a Whipple supercharger pushing about 850 horsepower really but it has a 4L80E with the automatic overdraft sure with a reverse valve body ATD is it manual also 100 the cool part about it is for La do you have you know obviously more gears for Highway yeah but the way that they machine the valve body I mean it's almost like a series really oh you'll feel it oh oh wow you'll feel it it's just funny you don't expect that from a van you know what I mean like we're talking 850 horsepower yeah so I get it what do you go to rear end on it Ford Ford nine inch you know I know a lot of you guys just had a heart attack right now about the blending of Ford with GM I'm a hot rod guy so I don't really care personally you know what I mean it's like build what the hell you want but if you're portion 850 horsepower you have to have something to hold up 100 yeah four nine inches bulletproof yeah and so 100 the Ford Transmissions there's not a lot available that we know that we could drive in this thing no matter how hard you drive it yeah it's gonna perform we're firm Believers we love the turbo 350 and this is our second 4L80E because you could shift this thing faster in any manual the best part about this build when we did it you see the mode replacement so imagine a transmission behind that you're almost at the rear tires the drive shaft in this van is literally like this long fully custom and that's like like well and then so the other thing when you're when you're building custom things like this is you don't want to have like a lot of you know drive shaft plunge so the way we had to position everything because how close it is and how short it is we had to really do a lot of cycling with the suspension to make the drive shaft actually work yeah because when you're in that short of a distance that thing sliding in and out the Yoke sliding in and out yeah you ain't got much room I mean it's round critical enough that you do this but then to do it in 90 days is just mind-numbing to me I didn't like that part oh bad dude I'll bet your producers just hated you guys and here's the thing that we didn't or you hate it down how do we accomplish a build like this in 90 days because normally if we're doing a high-end paint job it's going to take us 90 days to do it because you have to do body work sure let it cure out I mean you got to put it outside to get an absolute Flawless paint job that's what you have to do yeah now a 90-day build like this this doesn't have a Flawless paint job so what we did is me and Brad had to sit back and think how could we make the outside and incorporate it so it does have that feel that it's got an expensive paint job yeah guys that are into paint jobs and understand would walk up to them and go you know and walk out but you know it's this wasn't made to do that we did everything with the tape measure and we so what we did is when we did airbrushing we brought the rust factor in and what it did is it killed all the imperfections you know there's a lot of little imperfections we didn't have time to go in and redo all these hinges and make everything just absolutely Flawless we took your eye off of this and put it on that's right that's god dude that's genius so your eyes never touch the ugly part so everywhere where it's ugly and doesn't match up doesn't even matter you don't even count we pull your eye away yeah even the Gibson exhaust like you would think it's just a straight pipe there's actually baffling and full exhaust built into this it's like there's a muffler in a stack so normally in a van like this the exhaust would be below the the actual body yeah because how low it sits yeah so we had to remake all the headers and do everything so it was above the body and it's unbelievable what you guys have done this isn't just like a hey let's just build a quick van like this is I'm talking this is is a race car basically yeah with a shell on it yeah but you could do it at home people out there that are they're looking at this kind of attack for the thing I mean you like that's not like anyone could do this at home on a weekend which is pretty simple it's just ah come on hey John you want to know the funniest thing about this with almost every person says they walk up to it they look at the aluminum seats inside yeah and here's what they say oh gosh that's got to be uncomfortable yeah what do we like driving to California yeah yeah who cares 20 minute but you can't sit in that for an hour it fits the theme see everything was mechanical we had to we had to bring the floorboard up this high see this distance wow we had to bring this fender well in to clear the tire not only that see how the whole doors Notch to accept that new Fender Wells oh my gosh yeah dude and then so we had to make a dash you got your smiley face in there oh yeah everything I do it since day one since I've raced there's two biggest logos on my truck it's smiling face and a huge American flag with support our troops I love it love it I love it and then back in the day you know the old Diamond tuck and roll baby come on well let's just skip the this part this part's why you're here you should be thanking me right now we went to the upholstery guy and he was going to hand sew all these we didn't trust him hand sewing it making perfect ones so we actually made him templates I cut all those on the plasma cutter because otherwise to get these exact that's pretty hard you can't are these seats like just a fully handmade thing that you got a percent yeah uh a guy out of Florida made those for us I mean what are you gonna put in here that's going to look better than what's in here you're going to put in a nice it's so fitting it wouldn't even look right now it's so fitting of it massively tubbed obviously when this thing slammed like this we only have like an eighth inch of clearance on those tubs really from the tire yeah and the tires that full width these are wide do you know the tire size I think these are 15 wide on these no these were 17. they're big there's no remember there's no hood so where do you put all your stuff you guys with your utility stuff so we put everything in here all the electronics dual batteries and we just hit it because where else can you put it think about it looking at this I just I remember how much work it's been a while yeah how long ago did you guys build this four years four years ago yeah did you see the stainless steel roof oh I was checking that out dude I I believe me I so the other crazy part is this entire case this whole thing is welded at a hundred thousand steel piece by piece by piece by piece oh my godliner did like well we were a little nervous about it yeah getting hot because the headers and everything there so yeah so we went real heavy on the bed liner yeah and it's it seems to be doing its job this case is all hand built too so this is acrylic everything that's babbled and everything different because we you have to have somebody do that like you guys don't build your own this one this one we went to acrylic place and watched them make it it was yeah unbelievable wow so we wanted this to be like the trophy and then does this all for serviceability this whole piece comes off and then you're right there engine's sitting right there you can service everything right here that is what's cool about this that's smart and then the center tube that's your intake so that goes down then down and then there's a box and the air filter sits right in the middle up front so the front grille we get some fresh air coming in through the grill well there's one thing I forgot to show you on the front yeah you thought that whole front grille had holes in it it's airbrushed so come here stand over here those left and right are airbrushed Oh I thought it was a grill all the way across you can't tell so is that whole piece like a custom made as well no or is that the original Grill this is all Factory and then we just elongated it you could really see the steering tube at this point see this 90 box you can really see some of the actual framework as well my eyes drawn to a couple things here which is um so you do have lap belts oh yeah but I mean oh no that's that's Brad is rigged up a special system for me because I've you guys know I've gotten a little more comfortable with harnesses and stuff like that these days that actually put them on so you've created a one-off very specific I'm gonna sit in the back they don't want me anywhere near them up front here when we go for you know the whole father-son thing they got to do up front here so I'm gonna be stuck way back there behind a 850 horsepower engine I got a little something special for Sean because uh will you give me lockdown yeah right he obviously has taken a crazy crash that I actually learned from as well we only have lap belts in this so we're gonna rig something up and make sure he has something over his shoulders full custom walk off the birdie all the way right yep it'll be on the website later bitching there's probably more back here I gotta imagine that's just did that make you feel better did you get excited you want to tell us you were the one over here going like this when I walked up what are you doing are you okay okay I'm not sure what these are okay yeah I was looking to see if these were airbrushed as well what are those for as for when I drive and blow it up someone can actually tell me right so these actually will work as tow hooks but it looks a lot better with those in some goofy looking bumper I know why you're sticking me in the back seat you guys don't know maybe you'll shut up for five minutes that would be kind of nice I highly doubt all the way up there you hear me talking anyways huh We're not gonna hear you talking yeah yeah yeah the second we hear you talk hit the gas why does the sound weird so fuel tank dropped down in I don't remember how many gallon we're at 26 or so did you guys make it yourselves oh yeah no we just welded that up of course yeah it's all baffled it's got uh the fuel pump everything's like in it so it's just really nice and clean yeah we like air uh Aeromotive obviously there's stuff we've never had failures so what we use in all my race cars and everything yeah yeah basically in any part that's bulletproof in our race cars we usually just put in all of our builds yeah yeah but I love that with your approach you guys honestly man is I don't I don't know how much racing you've done but I've watched your kid drive you know I mean I've been in the car with him and he's but I mean the kid can drive so I love that your approach to everything is what if something happens redundancy all the racing stuff that comes into play so you probably got a vehicle that not only drives really well but God forbid something happens service abilities you're making things accessible you have to but a lot of people don't dude you've seen that you've seen a lot of the seamless show cars the great eight kind of cars where it's more about the overall aesthetic of it and nobody thinks well what happens in in a thousand or two thousand miles when we need to change the oil I think probably where that comes from is see when we race we don't have a big budget to have this big race team and everything so you and I prep everything yeah in our minds it's like what can we do to whatever we're racing so we don't have a failure because if you have a failure even with our little team when we go it's like it costs us a lot to get there yeah and if we can't reach the main event or our car shuts down then we already wasted money so it's better just to get the best parts you guys don't go for casual drives I mean I don't know maybe you do once in a while but all the driving I ever see you doing is typically at rev limiter well that's the driving I do yeah but my dad's like going to the mall and stuff so yeah it's a little different you're going to get punched in the face well let's go for a drive man I want to go drive this thing this is high levels of engineering coming into play right now oh dude [Laughter] I've got adjustments good Lord now we're gonna go for a drive you guys yeah I like these belts I feel really safe but I'm I was sitting where you're at when we were test fitting my harness system that you put with thank you I appreciate it why am I back here now is there is it for the no view look well I figured and see where I'm at I have a dash I just I want to protect you where you're at so hard for you to have to hit them that'd be a long ways to go but with that with that custom four point you're dialed I'm I'm good look I think you're a lot safer where you are I appreciate it dude hey I think you're gonna be some eyes on the power of this oh well dude I already know it makes 850 damn horsepower I mean foreign oh my God this thing's so cool dude I'll bet you hey I love when you do that you can feel it bottom out you really can hey Doug when you're doing that it's really kind of hooking up though isn't it oh like it's ripping and going yeah so it's made to hook up it's not it's not it feels like it I failed to break loose a little bit [Music] oh my God [Music] come on I like how you're like in the zone Dad don't smile smile is he serious up there I I only see the backs of your head dude I just wanna I'm listening for and paying attention I want to make sure that we're I got you I'll take that man I like when the driver gets serious about believe that that's a true automatic I know but I tell you what I mean this might be the most fun I've ever had in a vehicle in my life do you think I'm not even kidding you it's like the best roller coaster I've ever been on bro you know it's probably fun because it's different like where else you sit in the middle of a car with your feet against a blower you know strapped in with diversity straps come out your feet are feet yeah I I yep all right Dad yeah actually it shifts it at neutral again it's because you're going forward see we've always driven this shifting forward now it's backwards so it keeps messing my brain up yeah so where before we'd start back here and go one two three four why is it reverse is that that's a drag race thing right yeah valve body oh my gosh that was one one more star is so much fun right it just is and the sound the sound and the horsepower yeah I think it's just because I haven't been in this in a while makes me I'm telling you this is one of the most fun things I've ever been in in my life man I mean I'm serious all right now I can be unserious I I said it before but I really love how you don't you don't stay inside of any of the rule books or any of the boxes but as crazy as it is you guys build stuff that really truly does work I mean dude how much power this is making you know it if it's not engineered right you're out of control quickly and and we've never touched anything on this since we built this this is the thing we were done and we've never made one the only thing we've done is change it to a reverse valve body unbelievable no suspension unbelievable it doesn't excise us to like show up somewhere like the same vehicle just a different color we like to show up in like these cool Customs or like some of the people will hate wealthy bills and some will love it yeah at the end of the day they're both talking about it yeah yeah totally it's kind of fun oh yeah I don't think I've stopped smiling since I sat down here my face is starting to hurt it's just a different build that turned out badass yeah not because we built I mean we got a lot of craftsmanship in this and a lot of different parts but this is to me is one of those builds it looks really awesome but I think anybody could do this pretty easy well I don't know I don't know about that Doug he keeps saying he's nothing about this build was easy no nothing what's mind-numbing to me though honestly is that you guys did this in 90 days and it wasn't like now let's go drive it for A Thousand Miles and find all the issues and sort through things that you built it so good from the get-go that the only thing you've done was change the positioning basically of the shifter you want to do a little burnout one [Applause] foreign [Applause] [Music]
