holy holy holy [Music] blessed trinity [Music] [Applause] [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit peace be with you my dear brothers and sisters god desires to fill each of us with his own life to fill us with all the goodness that only he can give so as we enter into this mass let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and what i have failed to do through my faults through my faults through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life [Music] [Music] christmas [Music] here on [Music] glory to god in the higher and on earth peace to people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify we give you thanks for your great glory lord god [Applause] [Music] lord jesus christ [Music] you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have a mercy on us for you the holy one you [Music] jesus christ with the holy spirit in the lord [Music] let us pray keep your family safe o lord with unfailing care that relying solely on the hope of heavenly grace they may be defended always by your protection through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the book of the prophet isaiah in the year king uzziah died i saw the lord seated on a high and lofty throne with the train of his garment filling the temple seraphim were stationed above they cried one to the other holy holy holy is the lord of hosts all the earth is filled with his glory at the sound of that cry the frame of the door shook and the house was filled with smoke then i said woe is me i am doomed for i am a man of unclean lips living among a people of unclean lips yet my eyes have seen the king the lord of hosts then one of the seraphim flew to me holding an ember that he had taken with tongs from the altar he touched my mouth with it and said see now that this has touched your lips your wickedness is removed your sin is purged then i heard the voice of the lord saying whom shall i send who will go for us here i am i said send me the word of the lord [Music] [Music] in the sight of the angels i will see your praises [Music] i will sing your praises [Music] i thank you lord with all my heart you have heard the words of my in the presence of the angels i praise you i bow down [Music] i was singing your praises [Music] i give thanks to your name for your merciful love and your faithfulness you have exalted your name over all on the day i called you answered me you increased the strength of my soul in the sight of the angels [Music] i will sing your praises all lords kings shall thank you lord when they hear the words of your mouth [Music] they shall sing of the ways of the lord how great is the glory of the lord in the sight of the angels i will sing your praises [Music] with your right hand you save me the lord will accomplish this for me oh lord your merciful love is eternal discard not the work of your heart [Music] in the sight of the angels i will sing your praises [Music] a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the corinthians i am reminding you brothers and sisters of the gospel i preached to you which you indeed received in which you also stand through it you are also saved if you hold fast to the word i preached to you unless you believed in vain for i handed on to you as the first importance what i also received that christ died for our sins in accordance to the scriptures that he was buried that he was raised on the third day in accordance to the scriptures that he appeared to caiphus and then to the twelve after that he appeared to more than 500 brothers at once most of whom are still living though some have fallen asleep after that he appeared to james then to all the apostles last of all as to one born abnormally he appeared to me for i am the least of the apostles not fit to be called an apostle because i persecuted the church of god but by the grace of god i am what i am and his grace to me has not been ineffective indeed i have toiled harder than them all not i however but the grace of god that is with me therefore whether it be i or they so we preach and so you believed the word of the lord hmm foreign [Music] oh [Music] after me and i will make you fishers [Music] boy the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke while the crowd was pressing in on jesus and listening to the word of god he was standing by the lake of geneseret he saw two boats there alongside the lake the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets getting into one of the boats the one belonging to simon he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat after he had finished speaking he said to simon put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch simon said in reply master we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing but at your command i will lower the nets while they had done this when they had done this they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them they came and filled both boats so that the boats were in danger of sinking when peter simon peter saw this he fell at the knees of jesus and said depart from me lord for i am a sinful man for astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him and likewise james and john the sons of zebedee who were partners of simon jesus said to simon do not be afraid from now on you will be catching men when they brought their boats to the shore they left everything and followed him the gospel of the lord isaiah knew his unworthiness saint paul knew his unworthiness saint peter simon peter knew his unworthiness it's often when we look at our tremendous inadequacies that we may not feel up to the task that god asks of each of us to be priest prophet and king in our baptism we were baptized into christ as priest prophet and king the time of my baptism like yours as laymen or women we all received the graces to be able to speak god's words but i can assure you many times i was so afraid because when i would look at myself i would see tremendous inadequacies i can't do that i remember one of them so clearly i was tending to the electric fence on our farm we had a pasture where we had some of our pigs outside for a period of time very muddy and one of my tasks was to go around the fence to make sure that there was nothing on it and that the pigs hadn't rooted into it and caused it to come off in other words to uh so that it wouldn't give them a shock if they got that close and i remember that sense from god saying i want you to prophesy meaning i want to use you as a voice to speak my good news to others but it was that deep profound sense of unworthiness i can't do that by ourselves of course we can't but as we see in our readings with the grace of god all things are possible you might be feeling like i'm the last one to be able to get up and to speak to anyone about my faith but be not afraid invite god into those moments so that you and i will be able to speak the words the lord wants us to speak we see in our prophet isaiah today he realizes that he has unclean lips in other words he is not going to know what to say but the lord came upon him see now that this has touched your lips your wickedness is removed your sin purged then he heard the voice of the lord saying whom shall i send who will go for us it was then that isaiah had the courage to say here i am send me you and i are sent into our families into our neighborhoods our communities our workplaces to be a prophetic voice in the world where there is much darkness to bring the good news and to be a sign of light and hope to people who are longing for the good news who are searching for interior peace and hope and joy and all we need to do is see the power of god in these readings today like isaiah we can use the example of saint paul of course we know his story he was persecuting the church god has this encounter with him he repents and becomes a great preacher later to be known as an apostle and yet he says i am the least worthy of all because i persecuted the church but what does god say fear not and of course the story we heard in the gospel today they were listening to the word of god and peter doubts jesus we may have many doubts we may have many fears we may have many questions about the faith about what's going on in the world our country the church whatever it might be be not afraid be not afraid god is with us and the miracles that we see in the ways that he gave graces to those who've gone before us including all of the saints and the angels today who in that beautiful reading from the book of isaiah like the angels on top of the beautiful bold aquino here over the altar the place of sacrifice to announce holy holy holy that's our lord god almighty we have a mighty god who wants to work mightily in us but the key is to have our trust in him to overcome the fears that hold us back from sharing the good news of the gospel be encouraged my brothers and sisters be encouraged you have the grace you need you may not come until the moment that you're in the encounter but if we focus on god and we just listen and not let fear overcome us we will have that ease that sense and that confidence of the lord to speak truth to a world longing for the fullness of truth let us rise and profess our faith i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen as we acknowledge the power of god witnessed in each of the three readings today and the power of god in each of our lives we also acknowledge our great need and so we place before him now these prayers petition for the church that through her preaching and teaching she may be catching men and women on behalf of their salvation we pray to the lord hear our prayer for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life that young men and women will not be afraid to discern jesus call to come follow me we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for our public servants that they may be given the wisdom and insight to govern with integrity mindful of god's law we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for peace in our world that leaders of nations will work together to create stability and tranquility we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for our saint josephine bakita ecclesial community here at the cathedral as we celebrate the feast day of saint josephine bakita on february 8 that her immigrant members may more and more come to know the cathedral as their home we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for religious missionaries and and international aid volunteers who work to better the lives of people in the third world nations that their work will not go unrewarded we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer as pope francis commemorates the eighth international day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking we pray for the victims who have suffered from human trafficking and we pray for an end to this atrocity we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for those who cry out to jesus for healing especially the sick the suffering and the dying that their prayers will will not go unheard or unanswered we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the spiritual and material needs of our parish that god would continue to bless us with all that we need to give him glory we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer heavenly father and your good and gracious love we ask that you grant these petitions and all of our needs according to your holy will we ask this through christ our lord [Music] faith of our fathers when faith we [Music] our fathers is if we like them should die [Music] [Applause] we will be true is [Music] and mankind shall then indeed [Music] we will be true to faith [Music] in my kindly deeds and [Music] we will be true to [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father oh lord our god who once established these created things to sustain us in our frailty grant we pray that they may become for us now the sacrament of eternal life through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our gods it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for out of compassion for the waywardness that is ours he humbled himself and was born of the virgin by the passion of the cross he freed us from unending death and by rising from the dead he gave us life eternal and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as without and we acclaim lord god [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] is [Music] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying [Music] take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith we proclaim your death o lord and profess your resurrection [Music] until therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and me your unworthy servants and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours for ever and [Music] ever the savior's command informed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thine thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ lord jesus christ who said your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed i will go into the order [Music] joy to my youth i will go into the order of god to the god who gives joy to [Music] give me justice o god and plead my against a nation that is faithless from the deceitful land the carne rescue me oh god i will go into the order of god to the god who gives joy to my youth [Music] you o god are my strengths you why have you rejected me my jesus i believe that you are present in the most holy sacrament i love you above all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you amen [Music] and they will guide me on and they will bring me to your holy mountain [Music] i will go into the order god to the god who gives joy to [Music] mine and i will come to the order of god [Music] to guide my joy and gladness to you will i give thanks [Music] i will go into the order of god to the god who gives joy to my youth [Music] why are you cast down my soul [Music] in me [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hmm let us pray o god who have willed that we be partakers in the one bread and the one chalice grant us we pray so to live the made one in christ we may joyfully bear fruit for the salvation of the world through christ our lord bow down for the blessing may the god of all consolation order your days and his peace and grant you the gifts of his blessing amen may he free you always from every distress and confirm your hearts and his love amen so that on this life's journey you may be effective in good works rich in the gifts of hope faith and charity it may come happily to eternal life amen and may the blessing of almighty god the father and the son and the holy spirit come down upon you and remain with you
