god that each day that we are given is another opportunity to grow in grace let us seize that opportunity now as we ask forgiveness of our sins confident of god's mercy you are son of god and son of mary lord have mercy lord have mercy you are word made flesh and splendor the father christ have mercy christ have mercy you are our hope and our salvation lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us all of our sins and bring us to life everlasting amen we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord jesus of christ son of the father you take away the sins of the lord receive our breath you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us [Music] christ with our holy let us pray grant we pray almighty god that always pondering spiritual things we may carry out in both word and deed that which is pleasing to you through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen a reading from the first book of samuel in those days saul went down to the desert of zif with three thousand picked men of israel to search for david in the desert of zif so david and abba say were among saul's soldiers by night and found saul lying asleep within the barricade with his spear thrust into the ground at his head and abner and his men sleeping around him abba say whispered to david god has delivered your enemy into your grasp this day let me nail him to the ground with one thrust of the spear i will not need a second thrust but david said to abhishe do not harm him for who can lay hands on the lord's anointed and remain unpunished so david took the spear and the water jug from their place at saul's head and they got away without anyone seeing or knowing or awakening all remained asleep because the lord had put them into a deep slumber going across to an opposite slope david stood on a remote hilltop at a great distance from abner sunun air and the troops he said here is a king's spear let an intendent come over to get it the lord will reward each man for his justice and faithfulness today though the lord delivered you into my grasp i would not harm the lord's anointed the word of the lord [Music] is [Music] is [Music] in me his holy name [Applause] bless thy lord o my soul and never forget all his benefits the lord is it is the lord who forgives all your sins who hears every one of your ears would redeems your life from thy grave who cronged you with mercy and compassion [Music] a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the corinthians brothers and sisters it is written the first man adam became a living being the last adam a life-giving spirit but the spiritual was not first rather than natural and then the spiritual the first man was from the earth earthly the second man from heaven as was the earthly one so also are the earthly and as is the heavenly one so also are the heavenly just as we have borne the image of the earthly one we shall also bear the image of the heavenly one the word of the lord r [Music] i gave you on your commandment [Music] live one another as i have loved you the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke jesus said to his disciples to you who hear i say love your enemies do good to those who hate you bless those who curse you pray for those who mistreat you to the person who strikes you on one cheek offer the other one as well and from the person who takes your cloak do not withhold even your tunic give to everyone who asks of you and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back do to others as you would have them do to you for if you love those who love you what credit is there in that even sinners love those who love them and if you do good to those who do good to you what credit is there in that for you even sinners do the same if you lend money to those for whom you expect repayment what credit is that for you even sinners lent to sinners and get back the same amount but rather love your enemies do good to them lend expecting nothing back then your reward will be great and you will be called children of the most high for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and to the wicked be merciful just as your father is merciful stop judging and you will not be judged stop condemning and you will not be condemned forgive and you will be forgiven give and gifts will be given to you a good measure packed together shaken down and overflowing will be poured into your lap for the measure that you measure with will be measured back to you the gospel of the lord there's a wonderful image that we have in the second reading today from paul's letter to the corinthians it is that as we think about how we came into this natural life the life of the first adam so too we are born into spiritual life of the first adam in a way it is a reminder that this life is not just a holding pattern for us but each and every day is a new opportunity for us to grow spiritually for us to allow ourselves to mature more into the likeness of jesus and every day is a new opportunity to do that as i thought about that reading today reminded me of that movie some 30 years ago called groundhog day in which our own chicago bill murray played the part of phil connors who was a man who really was concerned only with pleasure and possessions in life and he found himself in this loop of waking up every day on february the second groundhog day and he began at first to see how much he could leverage that to his own pleasure and purpose but sooner or later but in time he began to see that it really wasn't uh very fulfilling for him and so he began to show acts of kindness to people he took up learning how to play the piano doing ice sculptures and he soon began to realize that he could grow in a very important way not in possessions of life the wealth of this world but internally spiritually as a good person he was growing in a way that allowed him to be the person god called him to be and so it's so very important for us as well to look upon this life in that same way he was able to get out of that loop eventually because he realized that each and every day was a new opportunity but also each and every day had what he needed in order to grow that i think is a wonderful message for us especially as we hear these readings today of how each one of us are to put behind us those animosities we have towards others every day can be a fresh start but it's also an opportunity to make sure that we don't judge other people or lock them into our own opinions who they are as though they can't grow and so jesus says stop judging one another you know every year we have one day in which the whole church here in lake and cook county in the archdiocese of chicago sees that this is an opportunity to have a new beginning we do that through our annual catholic appeal the annual catholic appeal helps so many people and we combine our efforts on this one day to allow god to make all things new to hold god's promise but also our responsibility and perspective and so i ask you to think about how is it that you can be a part of this annual catholic appeal to see that this is a new opportunity this one day out of the year in which we all come together to support parishes that are in need the food pantries that we have throughout the united the the archdiocese the ways in which we also uh help those who are preparing for marriages those who are preparing for various ministries catechists all of that takes resources but if we pull together the 2.2 million catholics that we have here in lake county we're able to do so much and it's an opportunity for us to really believe that we can't have a fresh start to realize that as we wake up each and every day god gives us an opportunity to begin again and also as phil connors discovered in that movie of groundhog day that each and every day has the resources that we need in order to do good so i ask you today to be generous and especially to take note as you give through your parishes to make your pledge through your parishes that if your parish when your parish makes its goal everything over the goal goes back to your parish so it's a way of helping your pastor as well helping your own parish so please be generous this year to the annual catholic appeal it is an opportunity for us to allow god to do something new in our midst but also to do it in such a way that holds in our hearts god's responsibility god's promise and our responsibility thank you for your generosity i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified dying was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting eucharist means thanksgiving and it is with gratitude in our hearts that we offer these prayers placing our trust in god who blesses us each day with life creation and one another in thanksgiving for our life together as church may we always be ready to share that life with others as we take up the work of renew my church we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for world leaders may their effort to build a lasting peace bear fruit particularly as we remember the people of ukraine we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer in thanksgiving for the generosity of all those who support the annual catholic appeal may their sacrifices inspire all of us to share the blessings we have freely received from god we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the suffering in mind body and spirit for those who have died we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer father of us all just as you gave natural life to the first adam so each sunrise you create us a new spiritually and christ the new adam let that be our hope as we make these prayers trusting in you who is lord forever and ever [Music] pray my sisters and brothers that my sacrifice and yours will be acceptable to god the father almighty as we celebrate your mysteries oh lord with the observance that is your due we humbly ask you that what we offer to the honor of your majesty may profit us for salvation through christ our lord the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right it is truly right and just our duty our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you laid the foundations of the world and have arranged the changing of times and seasons you formed us in your own image and set us over the whole world and all of its wonder to rule over your name over all that you have made and forever praise you in your mighty works through christ our lord and so the angels we praise you as in joyful celebration we acclaim is [Music] is [Music] oh you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is a chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith is therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world bring us to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope me our unworthy servant and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse the blessed apostles all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever we pray as jesus taught us our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always and with your spirit let us offer each other a sign of christ's peace lamb of god you take witnesses of the world have mercy on us lamb of god we take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world grant us peace behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy of you under my roof but only say the word of my soul shall be healed bring us to everlasting life [Music] an act of spiritual communion i dare jesus i believe that you are present in this most holy sacrament i love you of all things and desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot receive you sacramentally come spiritually into my heart i embrace you unite myself holy to you never allow me to be separated from you amen let us pray grant we pray almighty god that we may experience the effects of the salvation which is pledged to us by these mysteries through christ our lord amen again i thank you for watching today and participating in the eucharist as best we can in these difficult times my hope would be that the pandemic soon will end and let's pray that it does soon and i encourage you as well to be generous to the annual catholic appeal right after this closing blessing today you will see a video of the work that's being done in one of our parishes for a food pantry the generosity of those in the annual catholic appeal allowed that work to be enhanced and especially in this time of coven when so many people were suffering so let's pull together and make this a new day make this an opportunity which god can do something new because of his promise but also our taking responsibility for each other the lord be with you and with your spirit may almighty god bless you father son and holy spirit amen go in peace thanks be to god [Music] this is the food pantry at most blessed trinity parish the food pantry serves the community it's a conduit between us and the communities of north chicago park city and waukegan so we prepare food baskets for the people and we bring those even to their homes especially if they're sick with kova and as we deliver food i know there's families where it's really hard [Music] i had a van that was easily 20 years old that i had picked up for a few dollars and we were having to fix it the van broke down continuously it actually stranded our people on the side of the road [Music] we received a grant from the archdiocese for twenty thousand dollars we're able to help put that towards our new 2013 cargo van which is much more reliable has doubled the capacity so it's been a dream for our team this current van carries an awful lot of stuff and we're really delighted to be able to put all kinds of things in it we were serving previously about 200 family members a day now we're serving 400 family members a day but to me it's more than you van to lifeline to our community and so this has just been a godsend to us and we're eternally grateful for the good work of the archdiocese the prisoners and those that give to daniel catholic appeal the good works here are made possible through the annual catholic appeal make your gift at annualcatholicappeal.com
